This review if for Dr. Hays. I had a botched bunionectomy by podiatrist many years ago. I had lived with the results of the surgery for decades and finally decided to do something about it. Dr. Hays offered me two surgical procedure options for the repair. I decided on one and scheduled the surgery. I immediately felt Dr. Hays was secure and confident with his procedures. Since I've had bad experiences with podiatrist doctors in the past, this time I was going to be more thoughtful about my doctor choice. Dr. Hays is very professional and thorough. No chitty chatty small talk-- I like that. I could care less about a doctor's personality. I just want a doctor that is confident and skilled. Dr. Hays is very cautious about infection and after-care. He orders CBC bloodwork, and swabs for staph prior to your surgery day. I like this--hospitals are full of bacteria and I like to know that screening is done. Dr. Hays doesn't sugar coat your recovery. He will tell you straight up if you abuse your newly opened up foot by putting weight on it, you'll be very sorry. So, I followed his instructions without deviation. My surgery went off without a hitch. My foot is now beautiful.... well not exactly foot model beautiful, but to me, I'm over the moon thrilled with the results and can now be out of pain. A few weeks later, my husband ruptured his Achilles while golfing and needed surgery asap. Dr. Hays was willing to work a longer surgery day shift and fit my husband in the next day. Achilles tears are quite serious so we really appreciated the prompt accommodation. I found the office staff to be incredibly organized and polite. Yes, there were times when the doctor was running a few minutes behind, but that never bothers me. I feel grateful to have access to the best medical care in the world. I don't understand when Yelpers whine about having to wait if they doctor is running behind. Maybe those little babies should go live in the UK or Canada where wait times are not in minutes, but months. read more

I ask for a follow up checkup and injection on my ankle and they sent me to the wrong doctor he didn't even look at my ankle and said I needed to see a different doctor. They still billed me for the visit I asked them to waive the co pay they have refused. Very poor customer service I will not go back. read more

Dr Lilyquist resigned from GBO without giving his patients any notice. Last time I saw him it was for a post operative check up. I complained of sharp pain so he ordered a CT scan for me and 2 weeks later he was gone. No one at GBO has been in touch with me regarding my scan. I had to call them in order to get my appointment with Lilyquist changed to another doctor who is Sports Medicine and not a surgeon. The CT shows a fractured bone. No doctor there seems to be looking at the test results of any of Dr Lilyquist's patients. I have sent 3 messages to them using the patient portal and gotten no response. read more

Great Basin Orthopedics is a great place. This was my first time coming here for care and they were great. The check in time was a bit long but I think it was because first time patient and had to fill out paperwork. The staff is nice and my doctor is excellent. Aaron Dickens, MD was my doctor who did my surgery and he did a great job. He was very knowledgeable and very easy to talk too. If I had questions he answered them. Also, he gave very good advice for after care for the surgery. I had to get stitches taken out and my nurse was great at pulling them out. It was to easy and fast. She was also very accommodating when I had extra questions. I would definitely recommend these guys to anyone. There's plenty of parking and easy access doors. They had lots of wheel chairs come in and out of this place with plenty of room to go around them. Getting great health is such a crucial thing and I feel like these guys have done a wonderful job at it. We just wanted to let you know what a positive experience we had with Dr. Lilyquist at your office!! When you come to see him it's probably not a circumstance you want to be in so his friendly attitude, sunny disposition, and calm demeanor help you feel relaxed and know you're in good hands. He took x-rays for my son, helped calm him down and feel right at home in what could've otherwise been a hard situation. Doctors Like Dr. Lilyquist are ones that are not only great at what they do, but help you feel better about the outcome and what lies ahead. GBO and Dr. Michael Lilyquist are AMAZING. I have been suffering from carpal tunnel pain for years and I originally went to ROC for my issue and they were horrible, they just keep putting off treatment and acting like I was imagining the pain. So I went to GBO cause a friend recommended them and I am so happy I did. Everyone there is so nice and helpful, Dr. Lilyquist took the time to listen to me and then actually fixed my issue. He performed carpal tunnel surgery, and it went so smoothly and my recovery is great. I finally have no more carpal tunnel pain. Excellent doctors and caring staff. Very thorough and staff will call back to check up on patient. Dr. Dickens did surgery on my husband's collar bone after he shattered it in three places. He got him into surgery right away. It has been one year since the surgery and my husband is very pleased and back to playing golf. My daughter tore her miniscus and had a cyst in her knee. She is really active with Varsity softball, volleyball and cheer. We tried to see Dr. Dickens for her, but they recommended we see Dr. Dolan since he specializes in sports. She went into surgery and he has her fixed up. You can tell that both of these doctors care and enjoy their profession. They all seem nice. This is my first visit for my daughter who broke her ankle and it takes about 30 mins to get back into the room. Once your in the room it takes about another 30 minutes to be seen. Hoping it gets better from here. Update: I wish they would have informed me over the phone before I made the appointment that my daughters insurance won't accept them to put a cast on her. They knew what kind I had before I went it. So I wanted my time and gas going across town and they want me to come back to get it checked on after I get it casted by another doctor. So I don't see a point of coming back. I'm just going to go to Reno orthopedic, they can cast it and keep an eye on it. read more

3 out of 3 experiences have been awful. I have been waiting for several months to have my referral "retrieved from the 200+ faxes that are in a box" said front office. The referral was sent in May, again in June, and again in July. The front office says they don't have my referral. I called my doctor to fax again then followed up with front office to see if they received the fax, she again let me know she was not going to look for it. She said the doctor will look at the referral first and then I will be called to be scheduled. This is an on going midnight and it has just begun. read more

One minute you are watching families go back and then your told not only can you not go back with your loved one but you have to wait in the car. This place will get no money from us ever again. Dr. Liliquist seems like a wonderful surgeon. The problem is the off staff at Great Basin. I submitted a nerve study don in Jan, 2022 for carpal tunnel surgery. I walked in the results of the nerve study, so I know they received it. I was told that "Someone would call me soon." That was in March. This is the middle of May still with no return call. When I go to any appointment (I'm supposed to be there sooner than the appointed time.) However, the wait is still 30 to 45 Mins. Only the doctor's and office staff times are important our time doesn't count? As a patient, our time is worth nothing? We have jobs and obligations also and have taken care to be at the office at scheduled time.. I was told this carpal tunnel was severe and needed to be done very soon. I have now been on the phone for over 25 mins. I'm still on hold. Perhaps they can't get enough employees? Even the finest surgeon needs a good follow up and office staffI the doctor doesn't have it at their office, their practice will suffer. Dr Liliquest, you are a fine surgeon. Please do something with your office staff or your practice will indeed suffer. read more

The staff was amazing. I have been here with a broken collar bone and had surgery with Dr. Mullins. And recently a broken Pinky and wrist that needed a screw all the way down and also Carpel Tunnel both with Dr Liliquist. He is such a pleasure to talk to and he explains everything step by step. And in the OR he is always reassured before you go under. The only down fall is the wait times in the office. I have waited over an hour and a half because the Dr got caught up at the hospital and wasn't back at the office. I know things happen it just sucks that there was no communication and I had to sit there with a 3 year old. It's wasn't just one appointment either but other then the wait times the office staff and the Drs are truly amazing. read more

What can I say besides that this place is great!! Dr. Dickens is the BEST orthopedic, he performed knee surgery on my grandmother and took out all the hardware from her previous hip surgeries shes had in the past. She is good as new, almost, but she feels better than ever. His assistant or nurse I think Sandy is just as great as he is. Never have I experienced great customer service from start to finish, until now. From the first phone contact to my leaving, everyone, from physicians to staff were respectful, courteous and considerate. I had an accident and required an ortho consult and exam. I arrived early and was seen early, a nice change from anywhere else. Dr. Thomas Fyda saw me first, then Dr. Michael Lilyquist, both of whom were personable, professional and compassionate. They each took time to explain everything, from surgical options to recovery. After all was done, a sit down with surgical scheduler Ms. Levesque was refreshing. Unfortunately, in the end, the insurance company, in this case Gallagher Bassett, decided that GBO was "not in the system" and I was switched the next day to another provider. Very disappointed indeed. We'll see how the new team pans out. However, if orthopedic care is needed, there is no better place in northern NV than Great Basin Orthopedics. read more

I was referred to these guys from the VA. They were sent my referral on nov 5th and when I called to schedule on the 8th, they didn't answer. When they called back they were totally not interested in gaining a new client. It was inconvenient to them at best to have to call me back. Then they told me they never received a referral. I had to call the va back and ask for proof of receipt which the va sent me. Both facilities use efax to email so this was either incompetence or downright lying. When I brought my paperwork in personally they were slammed with clients and the front office gal said she didn't even know where to look for a referral. I saw the lead pt there and turned to talk to him. He told me I had to wear a mask to talk with him without asking me if I have a medical exemption for wearing masks. When I started to explain he told me to leave without listening. I can only imagine what the rushed kind of service I would've gotten if I had moved forward with using them. They are obviously too busy to care about their clients. read more

I have been here 3 times and have seen Dr. Liliquist who seems to be knowledgable and takes time to listen and explain clearly. The only complaint I have is the incredibly long wait times! Each time is has taken well over an hour from arrival to departure. Today it has been 50 minutes and I have still not seen the Doctor. I would suggest trying to reduce the long wait times. read more

Was told if I'm late my appointment would be cancelled however no one was kind enough to calm me and tell me they are running a minimum of an hour behind. So did I really need to come in early for paperwork. I still have a job I have to go back to. Had scheduled an hour to attend this apt which is 1 min from my work. But I'm still sitting in the lobby. Maybe they should give the courtesy to call patience when running behind. But they are having steak with potatoes for dinner. Snacking at their desk for this hour and half. I originally was scheduled for a knee replacement with Dr Dolan on june 28th 2022. I received a phone call a few days before surgery date from Sam the doctors nurse saying that she forgot to order the new prosthetic knee! she was apologetic and rescheduled me for a new surgery date Aug 4th. she also stated that I would not have to get the pre op tests again...she was wrong, the tests are only good for 30 days so I had to travel to reno for retesting on July 19th. After the appt. I called and left a message with Sam saying that I don't think I should be responsible for the re-testing fee's due to the error in your office. Dr Dolan personally called me the next day and demanded to know why I wanted a discount and from whom...Renown, the prosthetic maker or from me? I explained that his nurse forgot to order my new knee and I had to be re-scheduled. He got real aggressive and told me if I have lost my faith in his staff or him then I am free to look for another surgeon. Dr Dolan totally screwed up the doctor patient relationship with his arrogance and lack of admitting any fault! After that conversation there is no way I can allow him to do a major surgery on me! Michael Lilyquist solved my hand problems, quickly, painlessly, and with care. We're talking about superior skill and quiet compassion.

The short of it: good physicians, but front office is horrible. Try ROC. After a frustrating, dishonest experience with the other office, we came here as they had a physician who was available to see my child. They gave my child a cast without incident and removed it a month later (the physician looked very harried; perhaps just a long day of surgery). I had concerns my child might have mobility issues that would not resolve on their own, and inquired about PT with the physician who said it wasn't common, but we could do it if we wished. I should have got a referral right then, but waited to see how things went. We happened to see a physical therapist couple (parents of my child's friend) over the weekend at an event, both of whom looked at my child's leg and recommended we get a referral for PT due to my child's highly awkward gait and overall stiffness. I inquired with GBO on a Monday morning and was told by the front office they would send a referral to the PT office I requested and that I should "work with" my child (try doing amateur PT on your 4-year-old without any formal instruction; it's pretty useless and frustrating for all involved). Nothing happened that day. I went in the next day to inquire about the referral. I was first told the physician was busy in surgery for days and hadn't/couldn't get to it (okay, fine) and that I was told this yesterday (no, I was not; why would I come in again if I was told this?). I was also offered the unsolicited opinion that I would NOT get a PT appointment anywhere that week (because insurance, pre-authorization, etc.). I'm not sure if it was me being pushy or the PT office requesting a referral from GBO, but, after three days, GBO finally sent it. We got an appointment for a PT evaluation the next day because a PT evaluation DOESN'T REQUIRE PRE-AUTHORIZATION. Shouldn't the business side of an orthopaedic office know this, or was this just more BS? I find this sort of behavior is more common in offices that rely mostly on Medicaid patients; as if we'll all just roll over and go away when treated like crap. So, GBO, if you read this, people are pretty understanding if the front office is honest with them. What they don't like (and what leads to a review like this) is condescension and deceit. read more

Not a friendly vibe from the get-go. The Doc spent all of 5-minutes with me at every appointment. It was purely turn-and-burn style medicine. I went to at least 5 appointments. I had severe knee pain and I'm pretty sure the Doc didn't even do a physical exam of the knee. Just had me do Xrays, and told me I had osteoarthritis and it was due to being overweight and if I wanted it to get any better I had to lose weight. I don't dispute that I'm overweight and need to lose weight but there seemed to be more going on than something as simple as that. I'm not severely overweight but would definitely benefit from losing 40-50#s. I asked about physical therapy and I was told "no, just lose weight". I asked about wearing a knee brace and I was told "no, just lose weight". I'm very active with hiking, kayaking, camping, traveling, etc. I was offered a steroid shot and that only gave me about 25% relief. I was never offered an MRI for my knee to further investigate the problem. Then I was offered Hyaluronic Acid shots (a series of 3) and I accepted and I was in so much pain that I could barely walk for weeks and was never told there would be severe side effects, and I had almost all. The only thing they made me sign and acknowledge was that the cost was $1600 and I would be responsible for paying if my insurance didn't. After 6 weeks, there wasn't much improvement so I asked my Primary Care Provider for a second opinion. I was sent to ROC. What a far better experience from getting the appointment, to checking in to meeting with the PA and the Doc. After getting the MRI, my new team determined I had cartilage damage behind my patella, often called chondromalacia, and a very large baker's cyst which I have suffered from since my late 20's, I'm now in my late 40's. Oh, and the osteoarthritis I have is so minimal they said on a scale of 1-10 it's barely a 2. We went through all the options. We are starting with a fitted knee brace, physical therapy to strengthen the muscles around the knee, and another steroid injection into the proper location. They used an ultrasound with the injection to ensure they were getting the medicine exactly where it needed to be. I'm not kidding when I said I had instantaneous pain relief. Literally within 2-minutes, 95% of my pain was gone. I definitely will not be recommending GBO and I will let my insurance know what has happened too. I am now a huge fan of ROC and will be sure to let everyone know. It's not just b/c the pain is gone, but I was treated with dignity, respect and they actually listened to me and spent time on me and you could tell from the top to the bottom that that is their Organizational culture. It was exactly the opposite at Great Basin Ortho. The indifference at GBO towards the patients is alarming. read more

I am happy I was led/referred to Great Basin Orthopaedics when I broke my arm and shoulder the end of 2020. I ended up having a reverse total shoulder installed as well as mend a fractured humerus. Dr Fitzpatrick performed the shoulder replacement and Dr Dickens tended to the humerus fracture. I am grateful for their expertise and fixing me up quite well! They are both personable, professional and clearly masters of their craft. The follow up care has been exemplary and much appreciated. Thank you both and GBO! Administration staff is incredibly rude. Every time you call you either get attitude and cut off mid sentence. I am actually debating on finding a different orthopedic because of it. Knowing that I needed some pretty invasive / long recovery surgeries to remedy some genetic defects I began the due diligence process. First, I went to Yelp and asked people I knew for recommendations which resulted in 2 doctor consults. I left both feeling unconfident with their expertise for what I needed; possibly like they didn't want to do it but I cannot be sure. That was not a good feeling at all. Then I went to a couple of my trusted doctor friends for their recommendations. Both recommended Dr Hayes @ GBO without hesitation. Side note: I've always fared well asking doctors who they'd send a loved one to for 'XYZ' condition. I appreciated the following: - Dr Hayes was very honest about my condition and that there were potential variables and unknowns. He gave me different directions it could go. I appreciated this real approach. - The entire process from consult to pre surgery to day of surgery to post opp to now the (long) healing phase, I have felt 110% confident in Dr Hayes. - Strong sense of vast experience. This always makes me feel better whether it's a lawyer, a manicurist or - especially - a surgeon! I don't think I could have picked a better place or a better doctor for something so unpleasant but mandatory. Can not recommend him enough! read more
