My husband went from golfing and walking in March 2025 to not being able to walk at all within a 3 week period. He was unable to get another neurosurgeon that he had been working with towards potential back surgery to move anything up despite his quickly deteriorating status. I traveled from Washington State to get a second opinion. Dr. Sekhon changed my mind as to the course of treatment I was planning to take. He showed me my mri and explained clearly in simple terms what I was up against and made clear recommendations. He immediately made referrals, called in prescriptions and recommended an expert in his field who was better suited to perform surgery at a later date. I only wish he was in Washington State! I did a lot of research before selecting Dr. Sekhon and ROC for my spinal fusion. I just had my 12 week checkup and have very little pain ( like a 1, down from a 10!). Dr. Sekhon and Greg have changed my life. The entire staff, X-ray, etc. was great. Thank you! They treat patients like family and listened to every question and concern. I would go back to ROC. Went into spine surgery with a swollen numb foot and now have the same plus drop foot, numb leg, poor circulation in foot and leg, and a major issue with the joint/spine area. I had a bad problem with some pain but I could walk without aids, and now have a crippling situation with constant pain even with substantial constant pain medication. The medications have substantial side effects on my internals. I now require a foot/ankle device to support drop foot and can walk only short distances with a cane. No viable solutions other than fusions surgeries with low expectations of success, none of which address my drop foot. Ruined my life...... read more

Simply put; Dr. Sekhon is probably one of the best neurosurgeons in Reno. I have had neck pain with numbness for the past few years. I have tried countless injections, months of physical therapy, and various other modalities. Once I felt like I was about to cross the bridge and consider opiates to treat the pain, I started to go neurosurgeon shopping. I saw a total of three neurosurgeons before deciding on Dr. Sekhon. The first two I saw didn't really perform much of an assessment, barely listened, and frankly spoke to me like I was a "dumb" 25 year old. I am a paramedic, so I would like to assume that I am not as dumb as most of my generation. My first visit with Dr. Sekhon and Curt was pretty simple and straight forward. They reviewed my MRI and my symptoms, and then something crazy happened. They actually performed a complete neuro-exam! They explained my options, they didn't talk down to me. I decided on surgery since it appeared that I exhausted all of my options. It was pretty apparent the level of professionalism and genuine kindness that Dr. Sekhon expects from everyone in his office. From scheduling my consult to scheduling surgery, everyone took the time to explain everything that was needed to be done, and answered all of my questions no matter how silly they were. My pre-op appointment was the night before, and Curt went over every sentence in the consent paperwork as well as walking me through the initial 24 hours post surgery. I spent probably an hour with him. The morning of surgery, I checked into RRMC and they did the usual "show up three hours before, and sit around on a bed waiting for us to complete 15 minutes worth of work to get you ready for surgery." Here's the weirdest part though. When I went back to the OR, I didn't have any pre-op sedation. I was somewhat nervous, considering it was spine surgery, and I was on the other side of things. Dr. Sekhon, Greg, the RN, and some random med student actually took the time and talked with me knowing full well how nervous I was. Once the anesthesiologist arrived I was pretty much out in 30 seconds with a tube down my throat. I woke up in Recovery and it was pretty uneventful besides the nurse allowing me to make phone calls. The floor was pretty laid back too. Most patients get private rooms on Sierra 1, so you don't have to worry about a roommate that smells of old feet. Right now I am on Post Op day 4 and I am not on any pain medications and I probably will be going back to work in 11 days. Although Dr. Sekhon has horrible taste in hockey, he is a pretty good neurosurgeon who actually takes the time and effort to actually listen. read more

This review is not of Dr. Sekhon, as I have heard and seen through his reviews that he is a wonderful surgeon. This review is for his staff. Firstly, his surgery scheduler, Courtney, is awful. She does not stay in touch unless you pester her day after day. She also lies, and just says things to appease you so you will shut up and let her get off the phone. The PA is alright, but again, just more lies. I realize that the reason I was not granted surgery was due to my insurance denial, but the communication with the office was deplorable. I never once got to have a conversation with Dr. Sekhon, as the front desk and the rest of em are like gatekeepers.. terrible experience. read more

I was fortunate to have chosen Dr. Sekhon to perform my L5/S1 Lumbar Fusion Surgery. He knew exactly what needed to be done to eliminate the pain that been building up and consuming me for 4 years. Realizing there is a risk with all surgeries, and a positive outcome of back surgeries is not a guarantee, I went into the surgery with great confidence and the understanding that I was a good candidate for this surgery with Dr. Sekhon in charge. I am thrilled to report that 4 months post-op, I took to the slopes of Mammoth Ski Resort, pain free! Dr. Sekhon is extremely knowledgable on the most advanced surgical procedures and has excellent "bedside manner." He and his PA, Curt Erickson, really slowed down and took the time to answer ALL of my questions and to make sure that we didn't just jump into surgery. We eliminated all other treatments and procedures before deciding the lumbar fusion was to happen. This is mostly towards the office staff. I have a spine injury that happened over a year ago that requires surgery to prevent permanent nerve damage. It took almost a year to get approved through workman's comp and when I called to schedule an appointment the ladies said they took workman's comp and needed a referral from the doctor I was seeing prior. After getting that to them they said they needed a referral from workman's comp which takes a while because they will only mail the referral. After getting that to them there was a few other issues (and I had to call to see what else they needed) they said the referral didn't say what was covered so I gave them the phone number to call. I waited several days and called again to see if they were able to reach workman's comp. I got a voicemail and left a message. After 3 days I called again and they tell me (and now this is just short of 2 months since I first contacted them) they found out they are not contracted with my workman's comp and are getting rejects and said they suggest I get another provider. Just like that! No suggestions, nothing, I was very disappointed. Also I was not a new patient, I had seen Dr. Sekhon a year ago to get an opinion on this injury that was under my work insurance. read more

On my initial visit to Dr Sekhon for a fractured vertebra I was seen promptly at my scheduled time. I was seen first by P.A. Greg and then by Greg and Dr. Sekhon. Both seemed to be thoroughly familiar with my situation from a detailed review of all of the information I had provided including the nature of my injury, MRIs and X-rays, and other tests and their results. They each listened intently to my description of current pain symptoms and then completed a test of my leg strength and sensitivity, etc. Dr. Sekhon then described my surgical options including risks and recovery times but stated that at this time he would not recommend surgery (barring further deterioration) since my vertebra fracture appeared to have stabilized. Instead he ordered additional MRIs, and prescribed aquatic therapy, to be possibly followed by lumbar ablation after my next visit for my lower back pain.
