I truly love Great Harvest Pumpkin bread! I have to say the customer service is terrible!! Every time I go there, workers are busily working on something other than helping the customer. Today, I stood in there for approximately 4 minutes with four workers doing whatever and they totally ignored me. Needless to say, I walked out of there. Please owners, train your staff to be more friendly and helpful to customers. NEVER leave a customer standing waiting to be helped... Please don't let your next customer walk out like I did today! decent ham and cheese sandwich. At $7 it was a bit pricey for a breakfast sandwich but the bread was pretty decent.

I have always loved this chain. I have visited this location several times and for the most part had decent enough experiences to return. Two times ago I asked for avocado on my sandwich (which I paid extra for) but when I got home it wasn't on there. My first thought is no big deal... people mess up I will tell them next time. I went in yesterday 45-50 minutes before closing and patiently waited for the couple in front of me to try breads etc. When I finally got to the counter to order my sandwich they refused to make me a warm sandwich because it was too close to closing time. The lady at the register was fine, but the lady that was in charge of making the sandwiches was unapologetic and seemed annoyed that I had made the request. The whole encounter seemed strange because I had gotten a sandwich there before around the same time as I like to get one after I get off of work. read more

Have had both bread and sandwiches from this store but will never return after today. While waiting for my sandwich to be prepared I noticed an employee walk into the store from the parking lot. He proceeded straight up to the work table and began to knead dough. I pointed out to the young woman that he had just walked in and had not stopped to wash his hands. She looked dumbfounded that I would speak up. He heard me and asked if there was a problem. I addressed him by saying " yes the problem is you came from outside and are now kneading dough without first washing your hands. His response was to say that he didn't do anything outside. I told him that it is the perception that counts, not what he thinks, and that touching the door handles alone would require a hand wash. There were several other patrons in the area and no one spoke up. Sorry folks, if this is ok with management then they shouldn't have your business. read more

This is a great place to get fresh bread. I stop in at least once a week and try very hard to just get one loaf at a time--I often don't succeed! The country white is perfect for toast for breakfast (i get the toaster loaf instead of the round) and for sandwiches. My grandkids love it, too. The sweet breads are wonderful--i love the red, white, and blueberry (usually available around "patriotic" holidays) and the cinnamon chip is to die for! Whenever we have a brunch at work, their bread is what I am expected to bring! They also have a variety of whole grain breads for the health conscious. read more

If you're bread person this is probably a great place for you. I am not, so I am not here very often. I wanted to get a breakfast sandwich, upon a long wait and purchase, was not impressed. Homemade prices for a premade product . Seemed like pre made egg barely cooked bacon on a nice piece of bread. Bread had a nice toast on it but the inside of the sandwich was not tasty. Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks premade breakfast sandwiches are better. Upon taking my first bite I wish I went to Smith and Clarkson next-door. I will only go here now for bread and maybe some bakery items. read more

Bought a Dakota Bread today. For over $9 for a loaf of bread I thought I could expect something exceptional -- I was very disappointed and would certainly not go there again. The flavor of the bread is not bad and is certainly better than the average mass-produced bread but by far not good enough to justify the hefty price. I have to admit that I have quite high expectations when it comes to bread, haven grown up in a country where the bakery trade has a long tradition and is much valued. But also my american wife was absolutely not impressed. The most disappointing thing about the bread was that it had no crunchy crust at all (especially since GHB advertises this sort of bread as "crunchy, hearty, and flavorful"). read more

I didn't buy any bread, but they have some of the best cookies around!!! Go on Friday for the Molasses cookies and you'll be a fan too! They have chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin other times - probably some other types as well. read more

Finally found a local fresh bread place. Got the honey white bread, fresh and tasty. It stayed pretty good for a few days. Also tried the butterscotch bread cookies which were good too. The service was fair, provided samples to some different flavored bread. The only downside is that the bread is $$$. read more

This place is awesome! The bread is like eating cake, you can not stop. And they have whole grains, challahs (on fridays), sweet breads, etc. They give whole-slice free samples almost like a socialist entity! I have seen groups of 5 kids walk in and they gladly serve up the free slices. Very nice folks and the best bread in town. Make sure to ask for your "bread card" to get your 13th bread for free. read more

I love that their challah is just slightly under-cooked enough to have a bit of a gooey consistency. It looks a little not perfect almost as if I had made it myself - only theirs tastes so much better. Everything here is incredibly fresh. I have never had anything I didn't love from Great Harvest! Try the apple scrapple and the honey wheat. I also love that they give back to the community. They hosted my daughter's preschool last year and it was wonderful. They sent the kids home with small loves of honey wheat. This is a good place with good owners. It feels good to give them my business. read more

Do your job. It's that simple. My wife called and ordered two challahs, asked if we could pick them up today at the Mt. Vernon farmer's market at Sherwood Hall Library, and was told yes. When I got to the Great Harvest stand at the farmer's market, the woman there had no information about the order and no challahs. I called the store and was told that they had no one who could come out and make a delivery. Neither of the women I spoke with even apologized. Please don't patronize this store. They do not keep their word, and they cannot do their job. read more

When you walk into Great Harvest Bread Co., a friendly greeter will offer you a cut from a fresh loaf of bread to try. Many people stop in just to try out the latest sample and mingle with friends. The breads are unique, fresh and delicious. There is a huge variety and the pumpkin tea loaves with chocolate chips are to die for (and I am not usually a pumpkin fan). The people are nice, consistently, and I mean, yes, every time. A frequent buyer program is offered so that after buying 10 loaves, you get a free one. Customers feel welcome and even pampered when entering this little neighborhood bakery. I am also so impressed at how much this store gives to support local charities. read more

I like this place. They make my favorite sandwich, the Lorton Chicken Salad. Whatever is in the mix is delish and I always get it on cheddar garlic bread. Sometimes I call ahead and they have it all ready and waiting for me! One time they toasted it, but it is better NOT toasted. I left off a star because sometimes it has a skimpy amount of chicken salad on it, but usually it's fine. The store has a yummy aroma of freshly made bread. read more

I'm a new fan of Great Harvest Bread!!! The cinnamon roll is absolutely delicious, soo much better than Cinnabon. Their 100% Whole grain chocolate chip cookies just melt in your mouth. The cookie is huge and the sweetness is just right. I've sampled apple scrapple and extreme cinnamon bread. Both are very good! I'm totally obsess with their tasty, healthy, wheat breads! read more

I called GH Burke recently to order a gift basket for a family member with dietary restrictions. Jeffrey could not have been kinder or more patient in answering my questions and helping me decide what to include. When I mentioned that I live several hundred miles away (unfortunately), he went out of his way to ensure that the basket was delivered on time. According to the recipient, the items were fresh and delicious. I couldn't be happier and will patronize GH whenever I go home for a visit. read more

The bread is great but it cost an arm and leg. My only complaint is last time I went in, I ordered a full loaf and they gave me the smaller size loaf for the full price. I didn't even realize until I got home and my girl agreed it was definitely not the usual full size. On a positive side, the cinnamon bread is awesome. Cinnamon rolls are really good too if you eat them the same day. They are way overpriced, though. You have to really want a cinnamon bun to spend 5 or 6 bucks on one. read more

Love the bread and cookies! I also love how they help out the community by donating items to local causes and their "New Neighbor Baskets", which I've ordered for my new neighbors and they loved! Also, they gave a great tour and lesson on breadmaking to my daughter's Girl Scout Troop. My girls and husband LOVE the samples, which are never skimpy in size! I like being able to try something before I buy it. My friend who eats the gluten free breads says it is good, too. read more

Bread here is simply delicious, even the simple white bread. I love to use it for french toast. I've also tried the pancake mix and enjoyed it. There are always free samples available. This is a great neighborhood place. I'll never forget the first time I came in. It was a Sunday, and I just opened the door and walked in. The owner approached from the back of the store and introduced himself, then admitted that they were in fact closed. (I think the hours have changed since then). I apologized - I was new to the area, it was my first time there, and I'd not noticed the sign on the door. I'd just been walking past and saw a bread shop and thought I'd go in. He said no problem, I left the door unlocked after all, but welcome to the neighborhood. How would you like to see how we make the bread? And he proceeded to tell me their process of milling their flour, etc. etc, showing me the equipment and all. I felt quite welcome and have always returned to this bakery for my bread. This company is also a vendor at the Burke Farmer's Market on Saturdays. read more
