5.99 plus tax for the surprise bag
    Toma C.

I purchased a surprise bag and got a pumpkin chocolate chip bread. A blue berry scone and a Ube muffin with coconut, please try it. If you like Ube and coconut. I didn't get to try the bread which I was hoping to get in my surprise bag. I usually get my bread at Whole Foods or the bread shop. Unfortunately the surprise bag is something that is about to get old so they sell them at a discount. I probably won't do this again since it is like day old pastries and not bread. I know it can be anything but I was disappointed because I didn't get to try their bread. I would say it was average only because I wouldn't purchase what I got that day.

Takeout lunch from Kahala, Honolulu, Hawaii... I've passed by this business many times and thought it was just a bread shop. Gosh... it's not! When my friends, Deborah and Gabriel, got sandwiches the other day, I made it a point to visit Great Harvest Bread and get a sandwich, too! I told my sister where I was going and asked her if she wanted something. She chose Pastrami and said that her daughter likes ham and cheese. Okay! My sister also said that there was a location in downtown that she used to patronize. Ahhh... that one is no longer there. I saw that there is a second location in Kailua. This Kahala location is for takeout only. The free shared parking is much appreciated! Inside the cozy shop, there were two efficient, friendly, hardworking staff. They took turns manning the cash register and assembling the sandwiches. I got the ham sandwich with cheddar cheese on wheat for my niece and a hummus veggie sandwich on sourdough bread for me. I didn't see Pastrami on the menu, so I asked for it. The gal asked if I wanted a Ruben and I said, "Yes!" The Reuben sandwich might be a special order because my sister and I didn't see it on the menu. It was really good with sauerkraut filling and toasted rosemary garlic bread! My sister encouraged my niece to try the Reuben because she likes tart flavors and our dad liked sauerkraut, too! Of course, my niece liked it! The ham and cheese and Hummus sandwiches were excellent also! The colorful ingredients were fresh, and the bread was amazing! I'll be back!

Can only speak to the pumpkin chocolate chip loaf, which was fresh! It just was too sweet for me, very spice forward, and too dense. I generally like my breads a bit fluffier and less sweet.

Picked up some sandwiches for lunch after spending a couple of hours next door at the Keiki Republic Kahala. I've been to the Kailua location several times and their bread is freshly made, as well as the bakery goods. They offer free slices of their Cinnamon Chip bread to kids, while available, which is great for them to munch on while waiting for the sandwiches to be made. The sandwiches are all made to order, so they do take a while, but they're all delicious. I had wanted to get the Turkey Pesto sandwich but they were out, so opted for the Classic sandwich with chicken and Swiss. We also ordered the grilled cheese for baby, and another Classic with roast beef, and a Cubano. They were all excellent. It's a nice place to grab lunch, but be prepared to wait a bit unless you order ahead.

After we did our shopping at Costco going on way home I said let's go get great harvest bread sandwich I haven't been here in awhile so we ordered the ham and provolone cheese sandwich on sour dough. It was good lots of meat cheese and veggies even cut in half too. I also went overboard buying scone, monkey bread, cinnamon roll will try um tonight. Will be back again. Haven't been here in awhile so when giving my phone number i was still in their system.

My wife mentioned Great Harvest Bread after leaving Costco Hawaii Kai. I was thinking about sandwiches. So her suggestion was right on. Today we ordered number of items. The ham sandwich was my choice. You have a choice of breads. I picked sourdough. For the cheese choice I picked provolone. Lettuce and tomato included. It was well worth price. Friendly service and a clean uncluttered display area. Enjoy

I don't eat as much bread as I used to but was in the area so walked in to see what they had. Bought a loaf of pumpkin chocolate chip bread and a round of cinnamon chip bread. The cinnamon chip bread was okay but too big and ended up giving away part of it. But I loved the pumpkin chocolate chip bread so much I've gone back several times. It's really delicious! They have a schedule of when they make certain breads but I've been lucky enough to hit it when they have this bread in stock. I've been to Great Harvest bakeries on the mainland, especially in Minneapolis and they carry different breads. I liked a sunflower seed bread and some giant chocolate chip cookies, but I've not seen them here at this bakery. But as long as they keep baking the pumpkin chocolate bread, I'm good.

Great Harvest has been in this location for so very many years. I think of it as the place you go to after fasting and taking a blood test to save you from a drop in blood sugar. My favorite item is the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin. No matter the season they will always have pumpkin. Great Harvest does specials for holidays such as an April Fools treat. I picked up a colorful blue muffin that tasted warm, fluffy, banana chocolate flavored. Delicious! Love the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for an energy pick me up. Warm and fresh out of the oven. Scones with a dab of jam changes flavors frequently. There's always something different to sample. The staff are very nice and more traditional in service. Please take your time and don't rush the process.

The sandwich itself was satisfying, but it was missing one thing: flavor from seasoning. Everything tasted fresh, yet somewhat bland because there was little to no seasoning to bring the ingredients together. My biggest disappointment was the bread. Growing up with Capriotti's back in Delaware, the rolls were a huge part of what made the sandwiches special. The rolls at this location just aren't the same. They're soft and remind me more of the standard hoagie rolls you can pick up at a supermarket rather than the distinctive rolls I remember from back home. Overall, the ingredients are fresh and the service was good, but the lack of seasoning and the difference in the bread keep this from being the Capriotti's experience I was hoping for. Not a bad sandwich by any means, just not quite what I remember from Delaware.

Started by award-winning chef and restauranteur Kelvin Ro in 2002, this popular restaurant is known for its "grab-and-go" market with bakery and deli; and a grill serving local-style plate lunches and burgers. It offers a mix of fresh, local Hawaiian food with casual, quick-service atmosphere, popular with locals and tourists for its fresh, reasonably priced meals and baked goods. The grab-and-go offerings include gourmet deli, house-roasted meats, entrees, salads, sandwiches, soups, and desserts. Non-food merchandise includes creative note cards and freshly made lei. (their lei appear pricy). They also collaborate with other companies to offer taro chips and ice cream. The bakery's popular items include its blueberry cream cheese scones, lemon crunch cake, and Diamond Head torte. The grill has a takeout window and offers upscale local Hawaiian fare with charbroiled and grill services. The items we've tried are: * Blueberry cream cheese scones. Best scones I've ever had! Huge, flaky, moist tender with pockets of solid cream cheese and juicy blueberries make this a popular item! * Lemon crunch cake. The original layered lemon cream cake with toffee bits, with the rumor being a former employee used the same or similar recipe at Aiea Bowl. I still say that this cake at Diamond Head Bakery has more whipped cream, lemon cream, and toffee bits than at Aiea Bowl. * Teri chicken plate. Marinated chicken thighs and glazed with a sweetened Japanese style teri sauce and served with white or brown rice. Nice teri flavor enjoyed by locals, although not too familiar with visitors. Will try the char siu chicken sandwich or chicken plate next time, as it is not normally offered by plate lunch places. Both the grab-n-go and grill sections get busy with customers, and staff are knowledgeable about their items to answer questions produce efficient and quick service. Many appear to be long-time staff. No fancy ambiance, as space is used to display their merchandise for fast turnover. Owner Kelvin Ro has supported the University of HI's Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head through monetary pledges in providing training to students in culinary arts.
