Takeout lunch from Kahala, Honolulu, Hawaii... I've passed by this business many times and thought it was just a bread shop. Gosh... it's not! When my friends, Deborah and Gabriel, got sandwiches the other day, I made it a point to visit Great Harvest Bread and get a sandwich, too! I told my sister where I was going and asked her if she wanted something. She chose Pastrami and said that her daughter likes ham and cheese. Okay! My sister also said that there was a location in downtown that she used to patronize. Ahhh... that one is no longer there. I saw that there is a second location in Kailua. This Kahala location is for takeout only. The free shared parking is much appreciated! Inside the cozy shop, there were two efficient, friendly, hardworking staff. They took turns manning the cash register and assembling the sandwiches. I got the ham sandwich with cheddar cheese on wheat for my niece and a hummus veggie sandwich on sourdough bread for me. I didn't see Pastrami on the menu, so I asked for it. The gal asked if I wanted a Ruben and I said, "Yes!" The Reuben sandwich might be a special order because my sister and I didn't see it on the menu. It was really good with sauerkraut filling and toasted rosemary garlic bread! My sister encouraged my niece to try the Reuben because she likes tart flavors and our dad liked sauerkraut, too! Of course, my niece liked it! The ham and cheese and Hummus sandwiches were excellent also! The colorful ingredients were fresh, and the bread was amazing! I'll be back!

Can only speak to the pumpkin chocolate chip loaf, which was fresh! It just was too sweet for me, very spice forward, and too dense. I generally like my breads a bit fluffier and less sweet.

Picked up some sandwiches for lunch after spending a couple of hours next door at the Keiki Republic Kahala. I've been to the Kailua location several times and their bread is freshly made, as well as the bakery goods. They offer free slices of their Cinnamon Chip bread to kids, while available, which is great for them to munch on while waiting for the sandwiches to be made. The sandwiches are all made to order, so they do take a while, but they're all delicious. I had wanted to get the Turkey Pesto sandwich but they were out, so opted for the Classic sandwich with chicken and Swiss. We also ordered the grilled cheese for baby, and another Classic with roast beef, and a Cubano. They were all excellent. It's a nice place to grab lunch, but be prepared to wait a bit unless you order ahead.

I purchased a surprise bag and got a pumpkin chocolate chip bread. A blue berry scone and a Ube muffin with coconut, please try it. If you like Ube and coconut. I didn't get to try the bread which I was hoping to get in my surprise bag. I usually get my bread at Whole Foods or the bread shop. Unfortunately the surprise bag is something that is about to get old so they sell them at a discount. I probably won't do this again since it is like day old pastries and not bread. I know it can be anything but I was disappointed because I didn't get to try their bread. I would say it was average only because I wouldn't purchase what I got that day.

After we did our shopping at Costco going on way home I said let's go get great harvest bread sandwich I haven't been here in awhile so we ordered the ham and provolone cheese sandwich on sour dough. It was good lots of meat cheese and veggies even cut in half too. I also went overboard buying scone, monkey bread, cinnamon roll will try um tonight. Will be back again. Haven't been here in awhile so when giving my phone number i was still in their system.

My wife mentioned Great Harvest Bread after leaving Costco Hawaii Kai. I was thinking about sandwiches. So her suggestion was right on. Today we ordered number of items. The ham sandwich was my choice. You have a choice of breads. I picked sourdough. For the cheese choice I picked provolone. Lettuce and tomato included. It was well worth price. Friendly service and a clean uncluttered display area. Enjoy

I don't eat as much bread as I used to but was in the area so walked in to see what they had. Bought a loaf of pumpkin chocolate chip bread and a round of cinnamon chip bread. The cinnamon chip bread was okay but too big and ended up giving away part of it. But I loved the pumpkin chocolate chip bread so much I've gone back several times. It's really delicious! They have a schedule of when they make certain breads but I've been lucky enough to hit it when they have this bread in stock. I've been to Great Harvest bakeries on the mainland, especially in Minneapolis and they carry different breads. I liked a sunflower seed bread and some giant chocolate chip cookies, but I've not seen them here at this bakery. But as long as they keep baking the pumpkin chocolate bread, I'm good.

Hubs had to fast from 6 am for his 2 pm surgery so I thought he would probably be starving and would enjoy a delectable salt and butter roll from here. At $4.50 a piece I consider this a luxury for us. I found a close stall in the parking structure. A very cheerful polite male employee took my order. I had seen two occupied tables as I walked into the shop. Both had matcha drinks. Why not? I asked the young man assisting me, what's the best matcha drink? He said his favorite was banana matcha with extra banana foam. Okay I'll try it. He repeated it to the cashier. So popular there was a wait for beverages to be prepared. Soon enough mine was ready. I think Doc would enjoy this drink. This shop is a working bakery. Many yummy pastries displayed. Menu is posted high up above to choose from. Rather tiny shop with room for customers to stand in line to order and wait for drinks. Clean, busy with a few tables and chairs outside but pretty much in direct sun.

If you know you're buying a bag of beans, you can skip the long line and go straight to the back. You can also order pastries and drinks along with your beans. Before you make your coffee order, you have to go through the pastry section first, where they partner with the iconic SF bakery B. Patisserie! They have a wide selection of pastries that looked super yummy, but also pretty dense. I didn't want to kill my stomach first thing in the morning, so I only got one before I made my way over to order drinks. BLACK SESAME KOUIGN AMANN - 7.50 I loved the crunch from every bite, with the black sesame paste delicately layered throughout. It was a bit too greasy and sweet for my liking, but overall, a solid pastry that is well-loved by many. ICED POUR OVER - 12 + Kona Hualalai (notes: plum, hibiscus, and caramel) Very mellow and smooth. This was the lightest roast they had, which they described as a medium-light. If you're looking for something bright and juicy, I don't think you can find it in Kona beans. It was pricy, but I'm glad I got to try it. If anything, I preferred their pastries over the coffee. Still, if you're a coffee fan and especially if you want to try Kona beans, make sure to get up early and stop by. I also got to sample some of their drip coffee with my friend and try their current selection, which was a fun way to compare the different beans before making a purchase.

The egg and ricotta in there was really creamy and custard like. Mushrooms were good but I wonder if this would be even better with Hamakua mushrooms? It would mesh well with their use of local ingredients. The one negative is that the $3.75 coffee was TINY. Granted if you eat there I think you can refill it but kind of a rip off if you're getting things to go. The meat is all pretty pricy but it's local stuff so that's cool. Since it was their anniversary on Sunday, also got their celebratory funfetti cupcake which also like their baked goods did not disappoint. The croissant base of many of their pastries is flaky. When fresh it crunches with every bite that you take. This time around we had the cinnamon roll, mango danish which had a chocolate mochi filling, and their char siu bun. It's such a neat take to have char siu in a croissant. We are used to having it in the doughy bao bread but in a croissant, savory with a crunchy outside tastes so much better. I love sweet but this one wasn't overly sweet, who would have thought that mango and chocolate pair so well together. It's the summer months, fresh mango on pastries. It was the perfect ripeness. For the cinnamon roll, you honestly cannot forget get their cinnamon roll...It's flaky and again the frosting is not overly sweet. Can't wait to get another box of their pastries again soon.
