WOOOW!!!!! Just came to this bakery for the first time today for a quick breakfast snack while waiting for the Manoa Public library to open, and I couldn't help but leave with four breakfast snacks. Everything looked so good I wanted to try everything. I took a bite out of the breakfast biscuit right away in my car (which only cost about $2 btw) and IT WAS THE MOST DELICIOUS PASTRY I'VE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE!!!! Imagine the taste of a buttery croissant, in a moist soft scone like biscuit with a subtle sugar glaze. It was divine. Pictured below - mango scone, lychee danish (tart?), breakfast biscuit pastry, and smoked turkey and Swiss croissant. All priced well under $5 each. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the best bakery on island. Why are the prices so reasonable??! This is one of my all time favorite places to get scones!!! I used to work in an office where some of the clients would bring in scones from lanai and these scones were THE BESSSST ever. A true afternoon tea scone. Small, very tasty, and on the denser side. Absolutely delicious. Well, thru coconut wireless, i heard that there is a connection to this fabulous bakery and those same delicious lanai scones are also being baked here. So ever since i found this most valuable piece of info, i have been coming here to get scones when i can. My old office friends also reminisce about the deliciousness of the scones from when we worked together and they agree it is just as yummy. You can preorder ahead online and can also see all the other amazing baked goods they have here. Did anyone say BREAD?! Haven't stopped in for awhile. I needed to bring scones as my contribution to a tea and someone told me that they made good scones. I phoned in an order of mango scones ( $19.80 for a dozen) the day before and picked them up without a hitch. The counter staff was very nice and I got a box of fresh scones. The scone were more like mini scones, maybe 2". For my purposes, they were the perfect size. Well, they were the hit of the tea! The scones were very mango forward and very flaky and light. People kept asking where I got them from. This place has been in the Manoa Marketplace, near Long's for a long time- its staying power is in its yummy pastries! read more

Came here this morning to try their scones based on the reviews. There were two types of scones today, and I got a mango scone. I wanted to love it, but was surprisingly, I was not a fan. It was more bready than scone textured. There were several little mango chunks in the otherwise plain scone which did not add much flavor. Not bad, just average. I liked the small square portion size. Their other baked goods looked delicious, and I will be back to try those next time. read more

Not just pastries... What better place than to have breakfast and/or lunch here as a bakery you know that the bread will be fresh. Located in Manoa Marketplace I've always come up here pretty late so never really had faith that there still would be choices available but since it was before 11am I decided to take a peek. This little cozy spot does offer quite the lovely variety of choices all labeled and prices with easy to browse with huge chunky breads in the back and many pastries behind plexiglass and eyelevel view a gentleman came in only to see that they've already sold out on their scones that broke his heart and pivoted to several other choices. Already had lunch next door I decided to grab a couple of biscuits for breakfast tomorrow which would be a lovely convenience for me and the staff are just nice and patient as I was so indecisive as I did love the choices and will be back for the more glorious tarts and cheesecakes that they have as well. Pretty solid place! Went for a brunch snack after hiking manoa falls. $12 for half a sandwich but it was technically four slices of bread stacked abd folded so technically a whole sandwich. Pretty tasty, pretty filling ! The coffee they had self serve in one of those dispenser so no fancy lattes here. Lots of parking. Service was good and fast. Tables outside. This used to be my go-to bakery for really balanced sweet desserts. Unfortunately, Manoa has never been a convenient stop for an indulgent danish or tart. But they make everything fresh, without too much sugar, and without hydrogenated oils. Once in a while, when I am in the area, I will stop in for some of my favorites. Their pear tart is served as a rectangular slice. With a buttery crust, and a frangipane base topped with Bosc pear slices, this is the best I have had in the city. There a several Asian bakery chains that do a nice individual sized Fuji apple pie but again, Fendu's version is the best. A mini Fiji apple crumble pie striped with white powdery sugar. A couple of danishes are long time standouts. The lychee streusel danish and the mascarpone pear chocolate danish will satisfy a morning craving for sweet to go with your coffee. And if sweet is not your thing, then the mango scone - a mini two bite wonder that is moist without being wet and a mild mango flavor - is the way to go. Stick with the sweets. Their croissants are not as good as what you can get in Kaimuki. Their breads are fine, but again, you can get significantly better loaves elsewhere these days. read more

"Cake By The Ocean" - DNCE Fendu Boulangerie in Manoa by the mountains, far from the ocean. Any business that has the word "bou" and "gerie" reminds me of "bougie", like expensive or luxurious. It's a bit intimidating to hear that word "boulangerie" and when I say or utter the words, I feel a bit filthy for some reason, like I am a peasant who cannot afford any fancy bougie pastries. In this case, my order was about $65 with yes...THE TIP. I really detest how businesses now require you to put a tip for patronizing their business. Really. If it weren't for this tip crap, this place may have gotten a 5-star. Lychee Streusel Danish $3.50 each, very good! I am very picky when it comes to my dessert, but both were beautifully crafted and delicious, the perfect little indulgence after a busy day. Solid boulangerie in Mānoa that I'd always make a drive for if I'm in the area! Kind folks and have gotten food and goods multiple times from here. This time we got the croque monsieur panini and basil chicken pesto sandwich and both were good. The croque monsiuer was crunchy and filled with warm and gooey brie and enjoyed it as a solid lunch. They serve brewed coffee and some sodas. It's outdoor seating, so it makes for a great relaxing weekend. Manoa farmer's market is also nearby. Chicken, egg, pesto, sun dried tomatoes.. so many of my favorite things all sandwiched between a perfectly crispy sourdough bread. AMAZING! I just love French-style pastries. I've never visited France, but I deeply appreciate the buttery flavors and textures of a well-baked croissant the few times I've had them in local patisseries in California. My husband and I enjoyed the lychee streusel danish and the turkey croissant during our Manoa "field trip" (we don't live in town). I love the Asian/Hawaii-French fusion of the lychee danish! This time, wanted to get some things for my sister's birthday, so picked out a variety. 1 person was there when I walked in, but he was just waiting for his order, so I was basically the only person there. I think they were training someone b/c it took 3 workers for my order... in the meantime, the line grew quickly. Ordered 4 little pastries and 1 mousse...$40. Surprised how it was packaged - 3 in a box, 1 in a separate container (thing fell over), mousse in it's container. I got home and reconnected the one that fell over and moved it into the box with the other 3. Fit perfectly and looked prettier. The mousse stood alone. Everyone seemed to enjoy them all. Since I was going to visit my daughter (and granddaughter) early in the morning, I wanted to pick up breakfast for everyone. My daughter had a couple of suggestions, but they were both not open till 8am and 9am (it was 7:30am). I found Fendu Boulangerie on Yelp, and they were open at 7am, so I went there. It's right on the corner of the bldg, next to Longs, and there's tons of parking art that time on Saturday morning. They offer breakfast sandwiches till 10:30am, and then switch over to lunch sandwiches starting at 11am. They have a good variety of both hot and cold options, as well as vegetarian options. Their showcases offer ready-made, grab and go items, such as scones, tarts, croissants, fruit breads (banana, mango), and other typical (and not so typical) bakery items. I ordered one each of the first three breakfast sandwiches for my daughter, her husband, and me. The sandwiches are made to order, so expect to wait about 15 minutes or more, depending on how busy it is and how many you ordered (my order took about 20 minutes). They were all really delicious. The panini's were crusty, with melty cheese oozing out the sides, and the veggies were cold and crisp, with the fresh pesto adding a nice, slightly salt tang. Tiramisu is one of my favorite desserts, so when I saw they had a strawberry tiramisu, I had to try it. They said they don't put any coffee or espresso on the lady finger, but use a fruit syrup (I think he said orange?), so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was light and spongy with a slight taste of strawberry in the marscapone. The base was a thin chocolate cake and a chocolate "crust" on the bottom. I guess it qualified as a tiramisu with the lady finger and marscapone, but I prefer the original, with more marscapone. Their fresh baked whole grain bread loaves seem to be very popular, since about 3 different people bought them while I was waiting. They also offer a different "bread of the day." Fendu is a great spot for breakfast or lunch/brunch, and it will definitely be on my list of places to go. read more

First time trying a few pastries from Fendu Boulangerie in Mānoa Marketplace. We have tried the French bread before, which was great. However, we have never had any of the pastries. The pastries were gifted so I'm not too sure what the cake is but I was told it's a cheesecake of sorts. It was a bit fruity with a crust on the bottom. The crust was good and solid. It did not fall apart easily. There was chocolate in the bottom middle of the pastry, which was a sweet surprise! The fruity flavor of the cake itself was alright. I had some difficulty pinpointing the actual flavor. It was a bit light for me. The blueberry danish was great. It was flaky with the crust and the blueberry was a great middle between sweet and sour. While these pastries were gifted, I have been around Fendu. There is a bench outside and there is some seating around the marketplace. The inside has displays of the pastries and bread. The windows are clear from outside as well, so you can see a bit of the food from the outside. The people working inside also seem quite efficient, as people seem to go in and out of Fendu in a timely manner. Next time, I will hopefully have a chance to check out more of their food! read more

Love this place! I've been coming here since I was little. The bread is amazing-- my family buys the Bossola, the American sourdough, and the baguettes. High tea escapades with my girlies continue -- we were trying to get a booking at the Halekulani for our next get-together, but the available times didn't match our schedule. With the less than stellar reviews of some other places, we opted to make our own high tea fixings! I had some of the petite scones from Fendu a couple years back when a colleague brought them for the office. I've never seen petite scones before and wasn't expecting much from this cute square shaped pastry. It was literally super buttery but not greasy, didn't have too much crumble which would compromise the integrity of the rest of the scone I had not bitten into, and the flavor was amazing even without extra accoutrements. Based on that one experience, I decided my contribution to high tea was to buy macarons from another shop and some pastries and scones from Fendu. I opted for 8 petite scones, 4 of the mango and 4 cranberry. 3 cakes, the white chocolate mango mousse, guava strawberry cheesecake (rose shape), and the Valrohna raspberry milk chocolate "Apo". Additional pastries - the lychee Danish tart, pear tart, and 2 black forest ham and cheese croissants. Scones - perfection! Mango and raspberry had little bits of dried fruit in the scone, so the bread itself isn't necessarily fruit flavored. The girls commented that these scones could be one of the best they've had, ever. Cakes - the majority favorite was the white chocolate mango mousse. I personally preferred the guava strawberry cheesecake. We all agreed the cakes were lighter than them seemed, and didn't make us feel guilty. Not as sweet as we expected, which is a great thing! Raspberry chocolate was okay too, but not spectacular. I divvyed up the tarts for the girls to take home but took the ham and cheese pastries for my father. It didn't seem like it suited his taste. I wish I tried the lychee Danish and will try to go back for a bite. Prices aren't cheap at this bakery, but alot of Manoa residents were in and out (bakery located at the back lot of Manoa Marketplace) the entire time I was there. The breakfast sandwiches, paninis and home baked breads seem to be very popular here. The sandwiches smelled amazing and were reasonably priced. I love how convenient and easy it is to get in and out at Fendu. The parking lot of Manoa marketplace is ample and easy to get in and out. I like to get a few of their bakery items as gifts to bring to doctors offices. My favorite item is the fresh breads especially the sourdough. My kids like to try each of their beautifully made desserts in the display cases. The service is usually one or two ladies behind the counters. Depending on customer orders the line can be long. They do run out of some items like their bread so make sure to get there early enough. read more

I give 2 stars for the baked goods. But I was taken aback by the service today. I get a ham sandwich twice a week - that's $30 a week...which is $120 a month plus tax. And once an a while I want to get their rustic sandwich bread for $2.50 each...like once a month I ask for 2 or 3. Today, they wouldn't sell them to me, I am in a total need of the favor and that was just a horrible feeling...even after being a faithful weekly patron, the guy casher-ing won't help me out with 2 buns. Some solid pasties here, but not all taste of what they're named after! The lychee danish was super light but the pastry was properly crisp. Lilikoi cheesecake tasted just like a normal NY style cheesecake but was yummy nonetheless. The mango scone tasted just like a plain scone and the cranberry one was also very light, but both were fluffy inside with a crisp exterior. Overall, favorites were the panna cotta with fresh fruit (refreshing and not too sweet), the guava rose shaped cheesecake, and the pear tart. We do wish that there could be less packaging used - we got individual plastic containers for everything which generated a lot of trash. read more
