I love really good sourdough bread so I bought a loaf this morning..... Very disappointed. Barely sour and textureless. Sourdough should have a hard crust and be chewy on the inside. All the restaurants in the Bay Area do a good job with this so I was hoping I could find some here....guess not The breakfast sandwich was OK and the Katz Voodoo coffee was good but not hot enough. But I like having this bakery in my neighborhood so I'll try it again some time. read more

We found this spot through the Fulshear Farmers Market. They have a booth there selling baked goods and breads and we usually get bread from them. Well, we missed the market and I was running low on our bread, so we decided to stop into the store front. I didn't know they had so much! They have a great selection of baked goods, coffee, spreads, and dip and soup mixes. They also have a cafe selection where you can get sandwiches served on their homemade breads- yum! The downside is that I am BF my infant right now that has a diary and soy allergy, and I can't have several of their items due to the milk and soy contents. Their cooking spray on the pans has soy, but it hasn't seemed to of bothered him. The round loaves don't have the cooking spray used on them though. :) If they would switch to avocado oil based sauces and condiments, and soy free cooking oil, then this place would get 6 stars! :) Support local and stop in! My husband and I love good quality bread and Great Harvest in Katy, TX is the best so far over all the specialty bakeries we have tried in the county. It's a far drive for us but always worth the trip. Our favorites are High Fiber, Blueberry and Sourdough. They also have excellent Trek bars, scones and scuffins. The service is excellent. The owner and bakers are all friendly and knowledgeable. Our favorite server is Mi and we love Gr. The bakery has a quaint eating area, not huge like a restaurant but I like the ambience. I ordered the Nolan Apple Bacon Cheddar Melt...honestly this might be the best darn sandwich I have ever had. It was ridiculously good. Don't come here unless you call several days in advance. Went today to buy cinnamon rolls for a ladies club meeting, all I needed was 6. On the sign with the cinnamon roll was the price for 1 or the price for a package of 6. I asked for 1 package of 6,I was told I had to phone ahead if I wanted so many. To me 6 is not alot of rolls. I can see if I needed several dozen the call in but 6. The person who took my order was very rude and nasty. The person beside me even commented on how rude she was. LOVE their High 5 + Blueberries, their Apple Cinnamon bread, and their Dakota! Best breads I've had in a while! While their breads are a bit on the more pricey side, they are made with great ingredients and the team really does a great job at being friendly and considerate. Sandwiches are yummy, but small- they do come with chips and a cookie though! ALSO, check out their soup mixes available on the floorspace. I cannot say I'm a fan of Great Harvest Bread Co. because the only thing I have tried from the bakery is the berry cream cheese scones; however, the scone itself is worth 4 stars and definitely yummy for break, lunch, snack or even dinner! It is soft and light (not glazed or covered in icing/ frosting) so I feel healthy eating it teehee~ It pairs well with coffee or hot chocolate. I had been cycling all morning. I bought the muffin egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich described as on the poster to the left of the line. I waited outside for the sandwich. The sandwich contained no bacon. And the it was smeared in BBQ sauce!!!! What a disappointment! (It was not a meat sandwich). The combination was not good. Also, I am not supposed to eat corn syrup. No one gets five stars on their first review, but I'm tempted to change that policy for GHBC... First, REAL Bakeries are few and far between in the area. The big grocery stores do a passable job, but when compared to GHBC, well, GHBC is in orbit around a whole other planet. I stopped in to find a decent bread to make BLTs with tonight. Their sourdough is possibly the best I've ever had. Their Jalapeno cheese bread IS the best I've ever had - HEB take notice, whole slices of Jalapeno are o.k. chopping them up and putting them in the dough will take you from o.k. to on point! I like their Pimento Cheese spread, it's good. But mine is better, sorry guys, you need a SHARPER cheese for it, some seriously black wax stuff mixed with a less sharp cheese... but I'll buy it again for sure. Total Disaster, we make it a point to visit the Lake Charles location and when we discovered there was a location in Katy we made a point of giving it a try today.... $32.00 later, chicken salad sandwich with barely any salad on STALE sourdough, a breakfast Turkey sandwich with runny eggs and a slice of Turkey, a hummingbird muffin i can use as a doorstop. Stumbled upon this place while waiting for my car maintenance up the road. The sandwich I got was good but what I keep coming back for is the hummingbird bread! It's moist and not too sweet but just the right amount that I could eat it for dessert instead of breakfast sometimes. We came across this bakery at their booth setup at the Imperial Farmer's Market in Sugar Land. There are few, if any, good bakeries in Sugar Land. We bought two loaves of bread for $7 each from Great Harvest. We were hesitant because the other bakery that was at the Farmer's Market was selling stale bread. We brought home the Great Harvest bread and tried it immediately. The bread was fantastic. The Breakfast Blast is a heavy bread with a touch of cinnamon. We sliced it and toasted it for breakfast. We also got the High 5 Fiber bread. It too was a heavy bread which we both like. The bread was very fresh as well. It had a lot of seeds in it, but we like that kind of bread. Don't try to email them. I did this to ask some questions and they never responded. No big deal, because I called them and they were very helpful. I called Great Harvest to order more of the bakery products. The woman (Diane) was extremely friendly and took my order for pick up at the Sugar Land market this Saturday. My neighbor made an order as well after trying some of our bread. I just hope they continue selling their bread in Sugar Land and hopefully it will continue to be fresh bread. read more

Let me start by saying that I'm from Australia, and as my wife tells our friends we have as many bakeries in Melbourne as Houston has Starbucks. Having said that I'm a massive bread snob. In general I find the sugar content in American bread way too high. Sure it lasts longer but eww sorry. My expectations were high the day we visited Great Harvest Bread Company. Unfortunately the impression I got was that this bakery is aimed at a different demographic than myself. It is about organic super dense ultra heavy bread, which for me is a meal in itself. I'm looking for something soft, airy and white, with some crunch in the crust that I can use to make giant man sandwiches or to wrap around some steak... The staff seemed semi-knowledgeable about the ingredients and processes they use, perhaps not wanting to give away any corporate secrets. When I told the guy what I was looking for he had no idea what to show me, but he may have been reluctant to tell me that they simply "don't do that". Fortunately I've since found a bread that my wife and I really love at Sprouts Farmer's Market called Harvest White and it is the bomb-diggity. So though this kind of bread and bread combinations are not really for me it'd still be pretty good to take some somewhere as an appetizer or to enjoy with some fancy cheese or fruit preserves ...for as we know fresh bread is hard to come by in Houston. Great Harvest Bread Company is absolutely fantastic. It's in a little strip center off of Fry Rd., and it's easy to get to. There is always plenty of parking right outside of the door. It's owned by a local family who does the baking themselves. Don't expect grocery store prices for the baked goods, though. These breads, cookies, breakfast bars, muffins, etc. come at a premium, but they are worth every penny. When you open the door you're hit by the delicious smell of fresh baked goodies, and someone comes to help you immediately. They typically have a cutting board out for you to sample breads if you want to. The cinnamon chip, and honey whole wheat are to die for! The bread is always moist, dense, and fresh. They sell drinks and sandwiches as well. You can sit inside and enjoy the smell, or you can sit outside and eat. The customer service and consistent quality of product keeps me coming back each week. read more

The service was phenomenal, I came in 3 minutes before closing time, and the staff was very nice to me helping pick out which bread rolls for a dinner party and serving me and my sister coffee still. The staff even cracked a few jokes and was very kind even though they were supposed to be closing. I was also surprised by the cost of the items, bakeries around here are typically pretty pricey but for the fantastic flavors and low prices, Great Harvest has definitely become my favorite place. read more

Other reviews speak of the higher prices ($8.00) for a loaf of bread but this is in line with the quality ingredients that they use. The bread, cookies, brownies, sandwiches, and spreads are the best you will find in Katy. I went wild there on my first visit and everything was outstanding. Service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. The manager/owner came out and asked how we enjoyed the visit which is very important to me. I will be back again. First, I'd like to say that I am so happy to finally find a bread company that is serving real food right here in Houston. I try to eat whole wheat bread without all the additives, preservatives, colorings, etc found in store brought bread and this place is right on the mark. Their honey whole wheat bread has only five ingredients and they grind their own wheat. I got a loaf of their Dakota bread, Honey whole wheat bread, and a sandwich from them today. The Dakota bread was amazing. I can't stop munching on it. I just keep going back for more. It's perfect with a little bit of butter. Their sandwich was quite good. I got a turkey and cheese sandwich and they really pile on the turkey and the cheese. It was 8.50 for the sandwich and this didn't include any extras but I would pay it again if I was also picking up a couple of loaves. That said, it's a bit pricey to seek out on its own. Highly recommend their loaves of bread for those eating nutritiously or for those only looking for something far more delicious than what you can find in store. Also, don't be too overwhelmed by the price of a loaf (~$7). Each loaf is quite heavy and large and seems about twice the size of a store brought loaf. read more
