First, I'd like to say that I am so happy to finally find a bread company that is serving real food right here in Houston. I try to eat whole wheat bread without all the additives, preservatives, colorings, etc found in store brought bread and this place is right on the mark. Their honey whole wheat bread has only five ingredients and they grind their own wheat. I got a loaf of their Dakota bread, Honey whole wheat bread, and a sandwich from them today. The Dakota bread was amazing. I can't stop munching on it. I just keep going back for more. It's perfect with a little bit of butter. Their sandwich was quite good. I got a turkey and cheese sandwich and they really pile on the turkey and the cheese. It was 8.50 for the sandwich and this didn't include any extras but I would pay it again if I was also picking up a couple of loaves. That said, it's a bit pricey to seek out on its own. Highly recommend their loaves of bread for those eating nutritiously or for those only looking for something far more delicious than what you can find in store. Also, don't be too overwhelmed by the price of a loaf (~$7). Each loaf is quite heavy and large and seems about twice the size of a store brought loaf. read more

This was our favorite bakery for bread and some of the pastries they make. We would have given them 5 stars, but they have reduced baking time of their breads, as we have seen over the past three times we bought there. The promise of organic newly ground flour and the great taste of their products does not overcome the business of their now under- baked products. We believe that their overextention of sales beyond the bakery's capacity has caused the reduction in baking time. Greed shows it's ugly head once more. Since my wife is a home baking Swede and used to very high quality Continental breads, and I have travelled extensively, enjoying fine breads and pastries we feel we are qualified to judge quality of breads and pastries as consumers. We are happy to pay premum prices for quality, but not for less than fine finishing. read more

This is one of my very favorite bakeries in Katy! I usually get the hummingbird muffin or the pumpkin muffin but today I got the savannah bar and oh my it was one of the best things I've ever eaten! I've been here twice. I'd go more often if it were cheaper. One loaf of bread is $7+, ad sandwiches are $8+, so with chips and a brownie, it came to $13. But, the bread is really good. Soft and lasted in the fridge for a long time considering there are no preservatives. However, we just don't eat enough bread and it went bad. I will return when we have guests in town or for a special occasion. The honey wheat and cheesy garlic are both amazing. They give you a sample of anything you want when you walk in, and every person in there has been very friendly and helpful. My go-to sandwich place in town is Panera, but these sandwiches beat those any day. They do not have hot sandwiches, although the person at the counter said they were working on it. read more

The baked goods from this bakery are quite delicious. However, my online order was "short" two items on the two times I've ordered from them. The second time I went there for curbside pickup, I checked to ensure the order was accurate. And, again this order was also missing two items. If you're like me and expect to get what you paid for, make sure to check your order at the store to ensure no items are missing. Discovered this place at my local farmers market! I bought the garlic jalapeño cheese loaf bread. It was amazing! Just Devine!! Loaded with cheese. The breads and treats are CONSISTENTLY great. The service is charming. They are willing to make whatever coffee drink you can create ~ if you tell them how. I love stopping by for a sandwich for lunch. It may not be the fastest choice for lunch but it's always perfectly delicious! read more

This place is amazing. They mill their own flour and keep the protein part of the grain in the flour! I love every bread, especially the Dakota, the apple breads, the pumpkin bread, the hummingbird bread, the scones, and the coconut bread. They have different specialty breads different days of the week. The cornbread mix for sale is also the best. They also sell their flour for baking your own breads at home. I'm a fan, but I can't see myself coming here too much. The bread is just too good. I got something chock full of different seeds and we made panini's out of it! It was awesome! They seem to make certain breads on certain days so if there is one you want to try you have to make it that day or the next and hope it didn't sell out. Checked out this Great Harvest today because I've been a huge fan of the Kahala Great Harvest Bread Co. when I lived in Honolulu. I wasn't sure what to expect or if they would even have the same sandwich options as the one I used to go to. They didn't. But the choices sounded good so I ordered the Roast Beef & Cheese on Dakota bread. I'm not sure what happened in the 25 feet from where I ordered to where they made the sandwich. I asked for no tomato and for them to add halapeno peppers. There was no tomato (yay!) but there was also no cheese (wait, isn't it called Roast Beef & CHEESE? How do you forget the cheese when the ingredient is in the name?) and no halapeno. *sigh* Of course, I didn't realize this until I got home because I got my sandwich to go. Rather than blather on I'll break this down into some pros and cons. Pros: - everyone was very nice - sandwiches made to order - store was clean - sandwich was okay (even though it didn't have cheese. Seriously. How do you forget the cheese in a sandwich named X & Cheese?) - got a yummy cookie with my sandwich (yay for cookies!) - I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dakota bread Cons: - no bread sample offered - Maybe I'm spoiled by the one I used to go to but you would barely get in the door and someone would offer you a HUGE hunk of bread. No such offer. - I wish they had the ingredients for the sandwiches on the ordering board. I asked girl who took my order what was in a couple of sandwiches and she had to look them up. That was one of the reasons I went with the sandwich I did. - sandwich bread was a little hard and leads me to think that it wasn't quite fresh. I'll grant that not everyone is a dakota fanatic like me. But you should be! So perhaps it was around for a while feeling neglected. - not to harp on something...C'MON! How do you forget the (insert appropriate colorful metaphor here) cheese! It's in the name! If I asked them to leave off something that sounded like cheese I would at least be willing to accept partial responsibility. But tomato and cheese sound nothing alike. I purposely went with a simple sandwich and they messed that up (face palm). - I appreciate that they don't make the sandwich until you order it but it seemed to take a while to make a pretty simple sandwich. Will I go back? Probably. I'm usually willing to give a place a second chance. I'm still a huge fan of the Kahala store (I follow them on Instagram. And spoilers, they post pictures of bread). My 3 boys personal award choice for the last 2 years was BEST of the BEST 5 stars. Why? Because of their "Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins and Bread. They had the fortunate pleasure for so long on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis they are currently taking a temporary or have acquired new taste-buds to new or different carbohydrates. Or maybe Mom purchased it for so much for breakfast that I have or can mimics the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin they love / loved. My personal favorite was and is "The Coconut Walnut Bread" it is only baked on Thursday" I loved it so much I shared a whole loaf of it with a few of my neighbors, postal man, dry cleaners workers and school teachers on special occasions. The items I mentioned are a 5 star. The only reason I gave it a 4 stat and not a 3 was due to the poor customer service I receive when daughter is running the business and not mom or seldom dad. I am being a understanding of an anti-friendly or just young individual running a business without customers oriented guide-ness. A 4 star for the good effort. read more

Let me start by saying I LOVE good bread... I have problems at Italian restaurants because I tend to gorge myself on bread. When I found this place I had a feeling I might be in trouble. Sure enough I can polish off a whole loaf in a day if I'm not careful. Cinnamon chip is one of my favorites and it makes for an incredible French toast that the whole family loves. Dinner rolls were also a hit at the last family dinner I hosted. The other standout that comes to mind is Friday's jalapeño and cheddar bread - yum! Not just that but the little pastries are amazing as well as all the little jams and spreads. Lunch sandwiches are pretty good too. The lady was very nice. I bought a jalapeno cheese bread. I expected jalapenos & cheese to be throughout the bread, but there was only a sprinkling of jalapeno & cheese on the outside and none on the inside, so it was just a small expensive loaf of white bread. I bought the cheddar garlic loaf for $7.50 and the cranberry walnut loaf for $7.50. I can honestly say it was the worst bread I've ever had, it was dense, dry, had a terrible taste, and expensive. If you don't believe me look at the pictures of bread that is cut open from this place, you can see the lack of air and hydration in the dough. Visually it is clearly terrible bread. I've never left a yelp review before, but this place was so terrible I figured I would waste my time so other people wouldn't have to. read more

Cute neighborhood bakery! I stopped by after dropping my car at the Honda / Acura shop next door. This place is not easily noticeable if you just drive by. They had a great selection of breads and I ended up getting 9 grain and Dakota. Both are delicious and taste much healthier than grocery store ones full of lard (not even real butter), shortening, and preservatives. This one guy who appeared to be the owner told me they mill their own wheat. I'm so glad I finally tried this place. read more
