This mall is "great" only in the respect that it is big, not that it is especially good. I've lived in the South Bay all my life and have been here many times over the years and about two times a month over the past few months. My appraisal: This place gets packed in the afternoon. This makes parking more difficult to find and it makes the walkways congested with people who you have to dodge. The lines in Banana Republic and Gap can be really long, even if all the registers have cashiers. This mall has only one garage so you're not likely to come out to a cool car when you're done shopping. There is only one coffee shop here, a Starbucks, which gets packed. There being only one coffee seems really stupid to me as I think at least one other could do well if it opened. Many of people in the mall seem like they're from the east side of the south bay, and many of those people are rude and crude. They seem to be at the mall because they don't know what else to do with themselves on weekends so they go there and congest the place. Notice that I didn't refer to them as shoppers or clientele, because I think most of them aren't. The parking lot seems like a really poor design, with there being no islands or anything at the ends of the rows to serve as a visual cue that the row has ended and you're about to pull into cross traffic. I've seen people drive to the ends of the rows and then partially pull out into the traffic of the avenue that circles the mall parking lot, thus nearly getting their front bumpers clipped. This is compounded by the lane markings/paintings being so worn that they're barely discernable as well as the aggressive, territorial driving habits of east side people. I'm surprised there aren't often accidents here. The bathrooms are located far from the mall walkways rather than a short distance as you'll see at, well, almost all the other malls in the south bay. As for the stores themselves, Neiman Marcus and Saks off Fifth are large, relatively clean, well-stocked stores with few but helpful salespeople. The Gap and Banana Republic, as mentioned, get crowded partly due to their not having very spacious floorplans; sure the main walkways are broad but the merchandise is grouped closely together so when browsing product up close, one can feel cramped. The Levi's store is called an outlet and there are previous-season models there than can be had at a 20% or greater discount but a lot of the current-season product is available also at department stores such as Macys, JC Penney's etc. and can be had at the same price there. The Kohl's here is not an outlet store; it's just another Kohl's. Compared to the Gilroy Outlets, the Great Mall is more accessible to south bay'ers and for tourists, is closer to other attractions. This means that while a trip to the geographically-isolated Gilroy Outlets might consume most of your day, you could go to the Great Mall and then somewhere else in the south bay, peninsula or elsewhere more quickly and easily. Also good is that the Great Mall is self-contained- it's all in one buiding- it's climate-controlled and more walkable. This will work well on a hot day when you don't want to set foot outside whereas the Gilroy outlets are located in four separate shopping centers, all outside (in the heat) and you have to cross wide, busy roadways to get from one to the other. That makes walking more time-consuming and even dangerous when having to trust motorists who can be incompetent, inept and impatient. Still, the Gilroy outlets are less crowded, cleaner and aren't besieged by people who live nearby and don't know what else to do with their time. read more

4 Stars I stay about a mile away from here, so when I needed to get some "business casual" clothes for this week, I ended up spending a few hours at this mall. I didn't realize how many good deals there were at all the different stores and outlets until today! Do us all a favor, before heading out here, make sure you're sober, and practice your driving......I've never seen more confused idiots behind the wheel than the 2 times I've been in this parking lot. Its and indoor outlet mall. If you're looking for discount prices in an air conditioned atmosphere then this is the place. I come here once a week to walk around. Its good excercise even if I don't buy anything. Lots of kids come here though so if you're coming afterschool hours, you'll see a lot of them. And also on Fridays when new movies come out. One of the things I like about this mall is that the halls are really wide. I hate when there is slow traffic and hard to walk around. And and I love how huge the Forever21 here is =) read more

Bunches of useful shopping outlets, but not the best place to move around in. It's actually kind of small compared to other malls like Eastridge or Valley Fair, but it works. The food court is pretty nice, though. Beware of the teenage drunkies just standing there doing nothing. An "excuse me" to anyone will not get you anywhere. read more

I shop here for the bargains. Forever21, h&m, charlotte russe, banana rep, marshalls and coach are just a few stores i go to when I'm here. Sure it's crowded and sometimes smelly during the weekends but if you're in search for bargains this is a great place to go to on weekends. I'm from LA the land of malls so when I moved to Berkeley I was saddened to see that the closest malls, Richmond hilltop and San Leandro were beyond ghetto for lack of a better word. This place isn't half bad and the food court has so much variety. There are some really good buys and nice shops and then there is a whole lot of meh. Seems part of the mall is under construction as well. There was plenty of parking and it wasn't that hard to find the mall itself. Though its 40+ miles away, I'm sure we'll come back to shop here again. Just...not that often. read more

Definitely agree that it's the essential shopping spot for your relatives from overseas looking for good deals to ship back home. It isn't a high-end mall, but you can find high-end quality goods in a few stores. It seems like there's been a population boom in the area or the recent attractions are bringing in more shoppers, because the parking lot is suddenly packed. read more

My one stop for all my basic shopping. And the best part is its so close to home . The hardest part is its so hard to find parking here on a weekend. Crazy shoppers all over and no parking anywhere. But On a weekday evening if you are lucky you can park near the gate you want to enter from. They have a food court which I find horrible but I primarily go there for shopping and have fresh fruit bowl if i am hungry. Also there are options like starbucks, anderson bakery, mrs fields so that makes it much better I wish this mall had macys also read more

How many years has it been ? Hot day skip this place because they never turn on the AC. People come here to get away from the heat but there is no cure here. Theres lots of people and no air flow . Indeed it's "Great", very big... formally the old Ford Motor Company plant that has been redone as a large outlet shopping mal, ive noticed that its not always at "outlet" prices... always lively and busy has almost every store one can desire. Not a bad place to shop, hangout and the Dave & Busters is pretty often packed. Parking can be somewhat cumbersome so I'd prefer going early on a weekday when it's less crowded, definitely avoid it on any holiday. read more

Haven't been here for a long time. When I visited this past weekend I was reminded why. There is really not much going on out here. Sure the place is large but there are only a handful of stores worth going into. Is it just me or does it always feel hot in there. And whats up with the bathrooms, why do you have to go through a maze to get to one. And why are they soooooooo dirty or broken? This mall could have been so much better, its as if the owners don't know how to maintain some sense of quality control in terms of the facility. Thanksgiving night shopping ? Parking was pathetic ! Couldn't find a spot after driving around the WHOLE lot, so their loss, we drove home instead. We recalled last year's throng of wall to wall crowds in the mall, thus we were consoled that we wouldn't be missing anything worthy of the crowds. Great mall has remolded and changed over the years. Despite this the conditions have worsen in regard to the experience you get here. Pros: -Many stores -Many affordable store Cons: -Overcrowded -There is an outrages amount of rude, irresponsible, ratchet, entitled, etc.. people that come here. Today I saw this entitled woman bumped into some merchandise at Diaso and knocked over a bunch of things and continued to push people including a mother with her baby. The mother yelled at the lady while she shielded her baby's head from the lady swinging her basket. These people caused a scene in the store. I saw countless children running around the mall without parents. Some parents would let their children stand on the food court tables. People cause a huge mess all over the mall and it's stores. - The majority of stores unknowingly sell items that people have opened or used. - People are extremely unhygienic here no one wears deodorant or leaving personal items around. you see people trying on underwear or shoes while they have fungus - No one knows how to drive and there are multiple car crashes - Be prepared to be disrespected by others - Be prepared to be continuously be bumped into or have people invade your personal space to the point you feel their breathe - There are still crimes and assault they often occur here Honestly this mall went down hill it does not matter if they upgrade the place gets trashed and is brought down by the lack of mall staff preventing people from acting the way they do. The cheap stores can be found at other locations. They are not worth dealing with the enormous amount of awful people. I was visiting the mall with my three-year-old great niece when she said she was very thirsty. I didn't want to purchase any of the sugary things available in the mall, so we went to the nearest rest room, the one closest to Entry 3, looking for a water fountain. There were three VERY LONG halls for the child to walk down, and then we discovered that both drinking fountains were not working. There was a vending machine selling bottles of water right next to the broken drinking fountains. I don't know if the mall management were trying to protect people from the germs associated with shared drinking fountains or whether they were just trying to force purchase of water bottles. Either way, I was disgusted, so we left the mall as I had bottles of water in my car. (Also, parking was atrocious, and we had to circle for about 20 minutes.) read more

Great selection of outlet stores and restaurants. It is a very popular mall. It was pretty crowded. There were a lot of designer brand stores as well as some unique stores that I have never heard of. I found some of the best deals at the Polo Ralph Lauren Store on kid's clothes. I purchased polos for my son for $9.99 with an additional 40% off! GREAT MALL = LAME. ARCHIE'S GREAT MALL = AWESOME. Ok, so the great mall as a whole, gets about 1/2 a star from me. I have found, however, that you can actually make the experience a pretty fun one if you turn an ordinary great mall trip into Archie's Great Mall Carnival Adventure. What does the carnival have? Freaky people. Check. Weird sideshows. Check. Yummy food that will clog arteries? Check. Games for crappy gifts? Check. Well what do you know, the great mall has all this!!! Ok so go to the great mall with ZERO expectations. Walk around for a bit and admire the "Chinese Happy Ending" massage place, the only in TV store, the "Top 10 toys" store, the place that sells velvet light up paintings, and the milpitas police department store. That takes care of the side shows. Now go to the food court and order any number of deliciously filthy ethnic foods. I prefer a bit of Thai, a little fro-yo, and some naan from the Indian place. Now that your gut it about to burst, check out the people man. Wow. No comment here other than "yikes." Bargain shoppers haggling over last seasons Jesus candle. Ready for some games? Head over to Dave and Busters and play some skee ball and potentially win an Xbox. Never mind the fact that you'll have to spend $45,000 to get one. Done with dave and busters? If you want to go to the Great Mall on the weekend, try to go early morning or in the evening because it gets packed quick and trying to find parking is always a pain. It's the Great Land of unwanted items. Here you can find some of the ugliest clothing ever. Green neon shirt with black stripe polo? Check. Too tight bling bling pants? Check.
