Save your money. Save your tears. This place is terrible. First time coming and it will be my last time. I had to lift my child off the rink because she was crying after an employee told us to move to the side, that we were ruining other people's skating experience. I just wanted my autistic daughter to have a moment where she could learn how to skate like her superhero MoonGirl, from Marvel's MoongGirl and Devil Dinosaur. 1. There is no dress code, I couldn't tell the employees from the adult skaters, plus the only safety gear is wrist braces [ not what they said on the phone] 2 The rug is just concrete with a faded design, there is no fibers so new skaters have no control of the rink, most skaters just fly like a bullet from a Korn music video. 3 Music was so loud couldn't hear any instructions 4. The staff are so rude and have terrible customer service 5. I left with my autistic daughter in tears 6. I left in tears because employees kept telling me about my parenting, me holding on to my child, despite the fact that I am the mother of an autistic child and even though, a quote from the employee " She [ my child ] looks normal " I held on to her because I didn't want to spend my weekend in the ER I don't think I need to tell everyone about my daughter's medication condition in order to have people understand that I am her mother and I am taking care of her. If I tell the employee that we need a minute I do not need someone in a bucket hat to tell me about my parenting skills especially since I do not remember sleeping with them to make the child that I am with. Being a mom. I was just trying to let my daughter understand that it's important to get back up no matter how many times she gets pushed down but instead, we were constantly threatened to be rolled over by grumpy teenage staffers. This place it's terrible,. They have no patients. They allow experienced and New skaters to share the rink instead of dividing the rink along with the time slots. They are overall rude. I had to fight for a refund. I would rather skate in my neighborhood than come back to this trashy place. P.s. For making my baby cry and ruining her first skate experience I hope all of you lose the championship! read more

We just had our 12 year old daughter's birthday party at Great Skate, and was quite impressed with the staff that catered to all of our needs during the party. We visited Great Skate yesterday, I was impressed with their security measures to enter and the helpfulness of the floor guard. My daughter and her friend were skating for the first time and the floor guard was giving them tips and coming to check on them to make sure they were okay if one fell. I like to go cause I love to skate and it's the only place to go besides outside in a 120 degree weather. The reason I don't like it is because how chaotic it can get. The all nighters never end well. I've seen multiple occasions of the fire department or ambulance coming. I myself as a young girl have been knocked by grown men rough housing on the rink. It's extremely crowded so you can't do much besides go forward, and people are constantly running into you and you are running into people. The staff has never been pleasant, the food is expensive, the bathrooms are disgusting, and there's no security. I can go on. I do have other rinks to compare great skate too, so it's not like I'm just reviewing based on my own biased view, I'm comparing it to other rinks I've been to out of state. read more

Ummm so, I like to listen to RnB music. Im from Chicago so Im a skater as well. Perfect! This place plays RnB music on Thursday and Sunday nights from 8:30-11:30, or so I thought. The DJ is wack as hell who blasts, what seems to be, someone in his family who just got out the studio and needs a little air play. The music is FAR FROM RNB. Its the most degrading music filled with racial obscenities and talks of pu$$ies and bi7ches. Irs terrible and def doesnt possess the RnB vibe I was hoping for. read more

Our company had a corporate event at Great Skate this month. This is an amazing place if you are looking for somewhere to have a fun team builing group event or birthday party. We rented the entire place to ourselves, food, drinks, DJ (who does a dance party) and skating all included in the price per person. The inside is very clean, there are arcade games and a snack bar for those who need a break from skating. Staff is outstanding - very accomidationg to all of our requests. Came on a Sunday evening, and it was $8 that includes entry, rental skates, wrist guards, a slice of pizza, and a small drink. I'd say you definitely get you bang for your buck here. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the wrist guards, just felt a little dirty because everyone has to use them and who knows how many people were using them, sweating in them. Also wasn't a fan of the music. Not skating music, just random songs. Could've been because there was a kids birthday party going on. Our first time here and rennovations are nice. Staff needs a lot of training! Very confusing walking in to be turned away for 15 minutes while they had a private party. I even asked, "So you want us to leave?" and the teenage worker nodded his head yes. "We cant start off with ordering a pizza while we wait?" He told us no, but he directed us to Target next door! Weird. We stood out front for 15 minutes. Then got skates and I went to order pizza and drinks until I saw the what looked to be cheap frozen type pizza. I reluctantly ordered 3 orders of nacho combos and a side drink and fries which came out to about $60! The kids barely even ate them because they were "gross" they said. The cheese was gross and chips blah and not heated up. That was a waste of money. We will go back only because my daughter wants to skate more and there are no other locations near me, but we will not eat there. They had a small game area but the untrained employees say nothing about it so it was not being used by anyone which was strange. We could have had a better experience if they trained the staff to be excited to have customers, excited to give a fun experience, not talk so fast and loud in the echoing microphone with non stop rules that go on and on! I was so annoyed because the words were echoing in to the next and it kept going on and on. Not fun. Where is the owner? Train your staff or you will lose customers! They could do so much better if they improved in these areas. read more

Very frustrating experience. There was a 20 minute wait to get in the door which is only mildly frustrating. The skate floor was open for approximately 45 minutes until someone fell and was injured. They closed the session a half hour early. When attempting to get a refund, they required a receipt to prove that we skated for less than an hour. If this is their policy, and a skate session can be canceled by "acts of god" such as this, then handing out receipts should be a standard that are given to everyone in the event of something like this. It seems like a cheap tactic to deny refunds for those slighted by these things. Overall frustrating. We were given free passes as compensation but $50 to skate for 45 minutes is still a little preposterous. read more

I did not like that they had a painted cement floor. I have never been to a skating rink without hardwood flooring. Hard wood floors is why people pay to go skating. If I wanted to skate on concrete then I would just go to a park. Definitely would not be going there again unlit they install hard wood floors. read more

I used to skate here as a kid in the late 90's/early 2000's and recently got back into roller skating with my kids. I love the sense of community here (skate lessons offered, teachers are volunteers), and I am really impressed with the referees who skate during sessions- they are so quick to respond to fallen skaters in a caring manner. The only down side I find with Great Skate is the uneven patches on parts of the floor, but I have learned where they were located and avoid them. As far as sessions, I honestly prefer Saturday morning sessions after lessons since the Saturday Glow skate is not only busy, but there were a few times I was almost tripped by teens skating fast and too close, and trying to do jumps then falling right in front of me. I haven't done the adult session yet, but I definitely want to attend sometime. read more

Their entrance process is ridiculous. They take way more time than necessary forming 3 lines and making you stand outside. Once inside their security process blocks the entry way and the skate rental line is another story. They only have 2 1/2 hour sessions and it takes a good 45 mins just to get in and get skates. They say wrist guards are mandatory, but didn't even have enough for my family and we weren't even the last people in . We were fairly early getting there. The lady at the rental counter says " we don't have anymore so skate at your own risk" like really ? And sold waters that were not cold. read more

Lol It was an older establishment so you could tell it was a bit run down, skates were really worn and games outdated but there really aren't tons of roller skate spots in the area so not much of a choice. The manager ended up coming over to talk to me after I told the employee to get them. They sat in the water and said the employee was on break and the employee will get written up. I was shocked to see black electric tape on many areas of the floor. It was used in attempt to cover the damage/divots. You could still see the hole where the tape at sunk in. One area had an orange cone covering a part that had a lot of divots in that area. They had to keep coming back and replacing the cone because of course it was easily moved from skaters bumping it. If you're going here to strictly skate, then it's a 5/5 but if you want the full experience, skating, food & drinks, and games, then it's a 3 lol I've been here twice since I've moved to Phoenix last year. I actually bought a pair of skates because I plan on going skating on a regular basis. But it's a fun atmosphere, lots of people are out in the floor skating & dancing. One thing though, I'm from out of state, so I was highly surprised I had to sign a waiver to go skating, go through armed security, and wear wrist guards. I mean I totally understand, but I'm just not used to that lol but my friend and I went on a Saturday night, around 8ish. It was super busy and live. It was kinda pricey. We paid like $35 just for the two of us for entry and rentals. Then I got a "snack," 4-5 cheese sticks for like $8 and they weren't all that great and the games were broken... So, if you're wanting to go here for a kids bday party, I mean unless you can bring your own food & drinks, and just don't expect the games to work, I wouldn't buy a party package. Great place to skate but it smells like hell. It needs a major carpet cleaning. My old high school locker room smelled better. Advice for beginners and those trying to practice and learn how to skate, stay away from Sunday night adult skate. It's great there aren't any kids around but it's a pretty advanced crowd in attendance and very fast skaters. Beginners are likely to get hurt and it's no fun to be in the inner circle without an ability to practice a little more freely. They really should have an advanced reserved time. read more

I took 6 kiddos here today from 3 to 5:30pm. Upon walking in, i saw metal detectors and a woman with gloves on standing at a table. We were all told to empty our pockets and purses one by one before going through the metal detector. I felt COMPLETELY violated. I had feminine products on display in front of a long line behind me. How humiliating. I will NEVER go back here again. So sad, because we all used to have such fun here. read more

Recently our church youth group had a party at Great Skate. Wow! Everything went perfectly. It was magnificent! The youth had so much fun that they didn't want to leave! The lights the sounds, the atmosphere is always so much FUN! Back in the 80s I also brought youth groups to Great Skate. It was always and still is The highlight event! Skate Guards need to pay more attention to what is going on, on skate floor instead of showing off their skating abilities. Way too many people stopping on the floor, going the wrong direction and going straight across in front of skaters (from the center of the rink to the exits) usually ends with some tripping or falling. And get rid of the skate assists.. UNLESS the child really needs it. I have seen more people get hurt because of them. read more

This place is wayyy better than the lunatic low reviews give it credit for, it must be a KarenH8ter. The rink is smooth enough for a bunch of 50 years old couple to show off how much better they were at skating than most of us. I think the price is beyond reasonable. The AC was so good and cold it must cost $300 a night in electric alone. The kiddos working there were nice and professional. Two armed police looking security were there as you pass the metal detectors so the place is doing everything they can to insure your safety in left side city. Had an absolute blast even though my feet weren't correct for the skate. Totally going back. Free game cards and the snack food was all priced cheap compared to a movie theater. They had .25 cents candy so yeah when I count how few people were in there with even a birthday going on , how lucky as this place is open when every other rink is closed. read more

This is a great time to stay cool and active indoors! I'm intermediate at skating so I can handle myself for the most part. There's a mix of ages, families, teens here enjoying themselves. The music is just ok. I would like it more if some old skool retro music would be in the mix. They're great about clearing the rink for a song for backwards skating, couples skate, advanced skaters etc. my only complaint is that some of these groups of advanced male skaters zoom by between people and that can throw people off balance. It's good that they tell the beginners with a skate walker, to skate towards the middle of the rink. I'd love to see roller rinks get updated like bowling has been updated. Overall it's a fun time and I love to go glide, slide and work on getting better! So fun! read more

We recently took our foster kids and met our daughter at Great Skate. This place is exactly what I knew it was going to be. Most rinks are all the same, independently owned, trying to cut corners to same money, and half their games are over priced or does not work. Food are not the best, and again over priced. They need to clean their soda fountain filters and lines. Not the best taste from their drinks. I would recommend using groupon for this place. It will be a lot cheaper, then buying at their front door. Even if you are not skating, they will charge you $9.00 just to go in? Do they realize we are the ones paying for what ever the kids want inside. However, the kids had a blast. Got home with some bruises but had fun. read more

I always like skating and this is a fun place to take kids. I always look at the calendar for what deals they have this time it was 8 bucks a person with skates pizza and a drink. I brought 6 kids from my work and they had fun. Me staff and another kid roller skated almost the whole time. I did fall at one point near the end but other than that I had a blast. If you come any earlier there is a high chance there will be a birthday party going on for young children. Music is typically appropriate for the crowd that is present. Great Skate requires you to use wrist braces that are a great safety measure for anyone skating. They also provided food tickets with admission which scored us pizza and a beverage. read more

I started roller skating again and decided to throw it back to middle school days by going to great skate! I really enjoyed it. I don't come for the food, so no comment on that. But for someone who is a beginner at skating, this is the place to be!! The rink is smooth and there's lots of room for skating. The music is ok too! Suggestion to staff: have adult night on a Friday or Saturday instead of sunday (because most of us work ). Also - have music themes - similar to the van buren.
