i friggin' love this place man. owner is awesome -- was surly for a long time but i think that was only because of wife. he's since ejected this wife and apparently replaced her with newer model; he also got a haircut. he seems much happier. the only thing i ever get are the spring rolls (3 for like $3) -- they are amazing -- then ofc the dumplings, steamed, pork and chives. these come with a vinegary house dipping sauce. they are fresh, yummy, distinctive. i get two orders of dumplings (16 pcs) and the entire meal costs like $10. always hot and ready in like 10 minutes. never stop, bro read more

Wanted to try this dumpling spot as I was in the area a few weeks ago and thought it might just be easier calling to order. Unfortunately you'd likely need to speak mandarin in order to be able to order so I got to the store to place what I wanted. I got two beef pancakes and pan fried baos. The pancakes had super thin sliced beef and it was simply not what I remembered enjoying in beed pancakes. I was looking forward to the pan fried baos but that was also a big let down. It was not juicy and the fillings were simply not good. The biggest pro is the food is super affordable but taste-wise, I would go elsewhere unfortunately. Was a freezing night as hubby decided on a budgeted quick dinner. We settled into this hole on a wall dumpling place as also our first try and probably our last. Here wat we ordered: Chive and pork boiled dumplings- this was probably the only thing we ordered that's ok. It was juicy and the skin was not too thick. Taste ok. Let just say I had better dumplings. Pork fried rice-small- first bite was good and tasty. Second and third were good. Forth and the last were mouth oily washing in my stomach. It was a big portion being a small size. I was able to shared it with hubby as he agreed it being having too much grease! Beef pancake- grant that it was a freezing cold weather night, I didn't expect my pancake to have gotten cold that quick considering I was inside the restaurant eating it. My pancake was cold and hard!!! Overall for $8.50 for the whole meal, I should not have even written this review but food was really not that good in taste ood quality. I like the doughy skin wrapper to be crispy. When I ask the owner operator to make for me a fresh batch of 20 dumplings, he does the typical Chinese head bobbing and smiles with a yes only to give me old Dumplings made 2 hours ago. The dough on the dumplings is too thick. The fried ones, which I know people usually like more, didn't come out as good as the steamed, for whatever reason they just didn't fry right. There was too much meat and not enough chive, or anything else, it was so basic, like there was no effort put in. Even the sriracha didn't look quite right, kind off in color and consistency. Greasy dumplings if you want a quick fix. I got the boiled so it wasnt so bad. The hot soy milk was disgusting - I can taste the dirty grease from an unsanitary cheese cloth used to make the soy milk. He only offered me the large sized soy milk in those plastic food containers. If you miss Prosperity Dumpling like I do, this place really fills the void. Perfect proportions of ingredients, delicious flavor that really gets straight to business. Wonton soup here is amazing, gorgeous, thin skinned wontons in a delicious clear broth for 1.25. Add a .75 sesame pancake and an order of dumplings, you've got yourself an amazing little meal. This place pretty much put me through my last two years of college, and I still crave it. I'm not chinese, so I always asked for the Chow Fun noodle soup and they never had it, the guy laughed one day and finally explained that it's not really something people eat for dinner! Go figure! These guys clearly work their tails off and considering the other "legendary" dumpling shops in NY are totally mediocre, I'm surprised that some people could come down to sunset, walk into this business, come out and give it less than 3 stars. This is my favorite go-to cheap tasty dumpling place in Sunset Park. If you want to eat a TON of yummy dumplings for 2 under $20, then go here. They are super fast, cash only. They also have fried kids food like chicken nuggets and fries. We usually stick to the pork & chives 4 for a $1 and get a bunch of those. The shrimp are good too but pricier. And the pork buns are ok too but they seem to run out. I also saw someone else eating fried crab sticks so I had to get those and they were really awesome so I'd get them again. They also sell huge packs of frozen dumplings if you want to make them at home. I think I've found my Prosperity Dumpling replacement! (And it may be even better than the former, actually!) $1 for 4 fried dumplings and $10 for a bag of 50 frozen ones. The wrapper isn't as thin as some places but that just makes it more filling and less liable to burst! The filling is juicy and packed with meat and deliciously chive-y. Really, there's nothing to complain about--it's just the quintessential pork and chive dumpling. Better than the Manhattan Chinatown dumpling places so despite the long subway ride, I think I'll have to travel to Sunset Park to pick up my dumplings from now on. Ya'know, I'm a very patient person. I believed all those awesome reviews and went to get some dumplings. I LOVE dumplings!!! Anyway, the person at the counter didn't understand English, and thats ok. However, she fails to indicate that she's going to get someone to talk to you, but ignores you and does her cooking. I'm standing there, and I'm like "hello.. Is anyone going to help me here". An English speaking person comes from out back, and I place my order. I waited 45 minutes for my order. People were coming in and out while I was waiting, and every time I went to ask about it, I got the deadpan stare of the employee. Time lost gets forgotten when you get served good food. All's well that ends well, they say. but the dough on the dumplings were too thick and undercooked. The siracha sauce was siracha water and it was overall a disappointment. In a world where dumplings are now $1.25 for 5, Prosperity is maybe the last place to still only charge $1. Also a steal, grab a bag of 50 for $8 to make at home, and enjoy the spectacle of the kitchen as you wait for your order. While $1.25 out in Flushing might make you just as full, $1.75 for a sesame pancake here at Prosperity is laughably cheap when the amount of food is considered. And they are delicious! The Brooklyn location serves up the exact same fair for the same prices, but I just didn't have the same experience there, as the space is so open and spartan. I came here with my friends after swimming in sunset park. So far, I have tried their jajangmyun(black bean noodle) and fried dumplings. If you eat in, they give you your dumplings on a Styrofoam plate. The tables have soy sauce, vinegar (? There was a clear liquid in the red and yellow sauce containers) and sriracha. I don't recommend using the sriracha since, as most reviewers have mentioned, it is watered down. The dumplings are cheap, you can purchase 4 fried dumplings(pork and chive) for $1. If you don't want fried dumplings, they also have boiled ones, but I think the least you can buy is $2(or 8 dumplings). After ordering the dumplings, I received it after a few minutes since they already made some. Although I was really hungry, I had to take my time to eat it. The insides of the dumplings have a little soup, so be careful ! I wouldn't recommend ordering their jajangmyun (black bean noodle). I was excited to get it since I've seen it a lot of times in Korean dramas (although it's a Chinese food). I didn't expect them to have it. I took a while for them to make the order. The noodles are really chewy, but I didn't like the black bean sauce. It wasn't as much as other places would give when you order jajangmyun and they only included small pieces of meat. It was expected since it was cheap (2.50), but in my opinion, the dumplings are a better choice than the jajangmyun. Will visit again if I'm craving dumplings after swimming. read more

I went to Great Taste for a quick midday snack. Bottom line, I think its an okay cheap fast dumpling place. I got fried and boiled dumplings, of which I preferred the boiled. The dough skin is thicker than most places. In addition, I was able to taste pork bits in my dumplings which means the meat wasn't grinded well enough. All this makes these dumplings average. The menu is large, as I saw customers order items such as wonton noodles and pork fried rice. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by but otherwise this place is average in my view. I've have been staying in Brooklyn for about 10 days and I've always gone to Manhattan to find anything to eat. I didn't think the neighborhood was that comfortable, so I was a little critical about the place, but I decided to go there anyway. Not a bad decision! Even though the food is fast food its damn delicious! It's fast but not crappy! The sizes is big! So even if you are starving, I wouldn't recommend choosing the big one. In Flushing, Queens, a hole-in-the-wall restaurant usually means top-notch, fuss-free, delicious food made with more expertise than the proprietors can afford in decor upgrades. Here in Sunset Park, I guess it means the food is awful and of suspect origin. The lamb noodle soup came with gristly nubs of mutton in a terrible, flavorless broth that was somehow less appetizing than salt water. The Fuzhou wontons, which elsewhere are delicate wisps suspended in a clean consomme, were again flavorless, gooey and flat-tasting. The only thing possibly (POSSIBLY) worth getting here are the fried dumplings. They're large, with skins too thick for a boiled preparation, but hearty enough when pan-fried. The filling is noticeably low quality though, with a fatty taste and smell that's almost too distinct... As if the manufacturers are screaming, "Hey! This is real meat! *injects flavoring agents*" Five for $1 remains a good deal - but don't wet yourselves; places even in Manhattan still price [better] dumplings identically. Surprisingly, they take their sweet time getting your order to you (and often in piecemeal) when it should be a fast food deal. The space is bright white and tables are clean, but the kitchen looks like a mess. Despite the sanitarium walls, it's hard to trust that their sanitary practices even equal those of Flushing's dumpy restaurants. Probably because the food here is thrown together with so little care. Great Taste Dumpling is now displaying a "PEOPLE LOVE US ON YELP" sticker and letter on their front door, which is mindboggling. This Yelper does not love you. In fact, considering my appreciation of (and happiness to give the benefit of the doubt to) crappy little establishments, the food here was almost offensive.
