We were on our way to another restaurant when we passed by Ricepot and decided to give it a try instead. The place is small and cute, I love the little bird plates. The service was also great, our server was kind and accommodating. We ordered the crispy tofu and crispy calamari as appetizers. I loved the texture of the crispy tofu but the flavor and accompanying dipping sauce did not stand out to me. The calamari was cooked very well, not chewy at all and very crispy! I would highly recommend getting the crispy calamari. For entrees, we ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and the Ricepot pad thai. The drunken noodles were so good, it had the perfect amount of sauce and spice! Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the Ricepot pad Thai :( The shrimp were so tiny compared to what was pictured on the wall, very salty, and not cleaned well. The noodles were the perfect texture but also on the saltier side. The pork was a bit dry but still pretty good! I would come back if I was feeling for Thai food and in the area but I would not order the tofu or the pad thai again :( read more

I came here for lunch with my family. They have a good lunch deal for $13 (appetizer or soup and entrée). I ordered the chicken satay appetizer and the khao soi entrée (egg noodles in curry broth and chicken). The portions were large even for the lunch deal. The green curry came with jasmine rice and has the perfect amount of spice and texture was creamy. The salad was okay but they put a chunk of cabbage in there. Why did they do that? Such a great value meal when you come for their lunch specials. It's a nice Thai place in south bk that offers delicious yet affordable Thai dishes. They don't skimp out on flavor or portion. We ordered from the lunch special menu, which offers one appetizer and one entrée for $12 ($13.07 with tax): - Pad See Ew, with chicken: There was so much salt and sugar in this one dish that we stopped eating it after a few bites. - Khao Soi, with chicken: Over-salted, good flavors overall, could use green vegetables (pickled doesn't count) to temper the flavors. Our dish came with slices of slightly overcooked white meat instead of the typical chicken leg, and had ramen noodles instead of egg noodles. - Chicken Skewers: The meat was soft and tender, and the peanut sauce was good. - Edamame: Typical. I would say, this place is definitely not authentic Thai food. The flavors are there, but you can just tell it's not authentic Thai flavor, if that makes sense. My best friend and I came here for Thai food on a Sunday afternoon - the place itself is fairly small but we only waited about 10-15 mins for a table for five. They have a photo menu and a regular menu which I appreciated. A lot of the food items looked so good. We decided to start with the Thai Tea - which was actually really good. It was also much larger in size than I expected. Then we decided to get the chicken satay - this comes with either four pieces or ten pieces; also very tasty but definitely not the most tender chicken satay that I've had. For the main course I decided to get the traditional pad thai and I have to say the portion size was huge (much bigger than I expected) but the taste fell short for me. It was one of the pad thai recipes where it was too sour for my liking (it seemed like they put too much tomato flavoring in it) which I am not a fan of at all. I wished I got the pad see ew instead which my friends got and it looked really good. Overall - not the biggest fan of this place but I will say the portion sizes are pretty good. Drunken noodles are my go-to dish at Thai restaurants and this one was a bit of a let down. The noodles were broken and not fresh. The flavor was too sweet. What stands out is their lunch special- initially we were unsure how big/small the portion sizes are so we got three things to try! Their lunch specials come with an appetizer of your choice- chicken wings, chicken satay, tom yum, and a tofu option I believe. We got the chicken satay which was very good - comes with some peanut sauce and the chicken wings (each order comes with 3 pieces along with thai sweet chili sauce) Chicken wings were pretty decent to me but my husband thought it was just ok. For the entrees we got were pad see ew, pad thai and the green curry! Honestly all three were pretty good - but in order of our preference, it would be the pad see ew, the green curry then the pad thai. First, the portion sizes are also not that small so we had all this for two separate meals! The pad see ew was nicely flavored. So this review incapsulates two different dinner experiences. Let me start off by emphasizing just how friendly, sweet, and kind the staff are; they accommodated our request and even remedied any mishaps that occurred with our meal (I.e. papaya salad being too spicy for us to enjoy fully). So imma break down below our overall dining experience and the various appetizer and entrees that we had the opportunity to try: Appetizers: Chive cakes - second and third time ordering this and it is still addicting as hell! Just like my first experience, it was crunchy on the outside and mushy on the inside, a perfect and unique balance of texture and flavors! Papaya salad - very refreshing and interesting texture between the crunchiness of the peanuts and the crispness of the papaya strips! The spicy version was incredibly spicy but that was probably an accident on their end when they sprinkled too much Thai chili powder on it. The non spicy version was tangy, crunchy and help cleanse our taste for the main entrees. Drinks: Thai iced tea - very creamy and sweet with a strong tea flavor that's perfect for Thai ice tea lovers. It is definitely on the sweeter end so I recommend adding some milk to it if you bring your Thai ice tea home! Entrees: Crying Tiger - perfectly cooked to medium rare, just like we wanted. The sauce that accompanied the steak was deliciously spicy/tangy as well! However, I wasn't too much of a big fan of the strip cut, for I found it a bit too rough, but that's just my personal preference, so if you like strips then this will definitely satisfy your cravings! If I had any recommendations, I would recommend using a fattier cut or using ribeyes instead (or maybe as a new menu item!), for I think fattier cuts will be richer and be perfect with rice and the sauce that it comes with! Just a thought! :p Pad see ew (chicken and seafood) - both version of the pad see ew was delicious, for the flavors were definitely intense! The sweet and saltiness of the dish makes it deliciously memorable. However, some might find it just a tad too sweet. The sweetness definitely overpowers the saltiness, but it is still delicious in my opinion! Adding some hot sauce or their chili powder helps reduce the sweetness a bit and adds a kick to it! Highly recommend trying this! Chicken cashew - fried pieces of chicken with a sweet Thai glaze over it, which was good but a bit too salty for us (definitely pairs well with rice though). It was definitely worth the try and reminded us of Chinese sweet and sour chicken from Cantonese restaurants (not the purely fried ones from Chinese takeouts :p). Thai Fisherman stew - a flavorful pot of mixed seafood with a stew that tastes delicious with rice. It reminds us of soondubu (Korean tofu stew) because it comes with a similar small pot with similar portions. It was good overall and we liked it! Bangkok fried rice - wow, this was a show stealer! You can definitely taste the Wok Hay (Cantonese term for fire-infused cooking on a wok that brings out the smoky flavor of the fried rice)! It smells deliciously fragrant and the seasoning was just perfect! We got the beef version and it was phenomenal! Just a tip, if you order pad see ew as well, eat the fried rice first because the intense flavors of the pad see ew will definitely blanket the taste of the fried rice since the fried rice is on the milder side. Highly recommend trying this! My total 3 experiences dining here have been phenomenal and I can't wait to come back to try their many other items! Saw this place and decided to try it. It felt like eating authentic Thai cuisine! Went with a group and ordered the chicken satay, ricepot pad thai, duck curry and the hat yai chicken. Everything was delicious!! It was a lot of food for 5 people. I liked how the ricepot pad thai came with pieces of pork belly. They were very generous with the amount of duck in the duck curry. The hat yai chicken portion was definitely family style. Huge pieces of chicken served with a delicious sweet and sour sauce and sticky rice. The food was so good that I went back few weeks later. Tried their papaya salad, khao soi and tom yum seafood noodles. The khao soi dish means a lot to me since it's a dish that reminds me of my trip to Chiang Mai. It was so good it brought back memories. It was missing the crispy noodles, but the taste was on point. Another Thai restaurant in Bensonhurst? Sign me up! I honestly had high hopes for Ricepot because it's on the bustling 86th street and I saw good reviews on Yelp. I ordered for pickup on GrubHub the first time, but when I got there at the scheduled time, they told me they didn't get my order - this is fine as I wasn't in a rush and they were nice about it, but it could be someone else's reason for a star deduction. I ordered a Drunken Noodle and while it was made fresh when I got to the restaurant, the chicken was quite dry and the noodles were pretty hard and rubbery. It wasn't chewy like fresh rice noodles should be at all. The flavor was good but was a little too salty for my taste. The shrimp was the only redeeming factor as it was big and fresh. I figured my experience could have been a one-time mishap and I really wanted to support the small business, so I went back a second time to try their Ricepot Pad Thai. I've had my fair share of pad thai, and while the pad thai was okay, it didn't wow me. The pork belly was decent but the 'rock shrimp' they called on the menu was just really tiny shrimp with their gut staring back at me. It was honestly not that appetizing to see and also for the $15 price point, I didn't expect to see such tiny, unclean shrimp. Overall, I feel like Ricepot is a little overpriced for its quality. I understand rent is high on such a busy street, but the competition at such a dense location is hard to beat. New REAL THAI restaurant in Bensonhurst: My block has everything nowadays, with a newest addition of authentic Thai food (not Chinese/Malaysian influenced Thai cooking). It's a tiny place by the 20th Ave line but inside looks homey. The new Ricepot Thai Cook House replaced a few previous TW fried chicken places, offering some tasty Thai food like their Ricepot Pad Thai with fried pork belly. Really good portion, I was dying trying to finish the entire portion myself in one sitting...so much pork belly. They used thin rice noodles instead, overall a good dish for the price. Will try other noodles in the future. The lunch portion is small though. Got the Green Curry Lunch and sorry to say the portion of rice makes me so sad; I had to reheat some more leftover rice to add into the curry. Curry is good, spiced and spicy but won't kill you. I ordered a simple pineapple fried rice and it was fresh and not overwhelming. We also ordered the seafood tom yum soup and we got a nice size portion. The Thai iced tea was also a great value that went well with our food.
