Normally food was okay, I don't really expect good chinese food in AV. Food is not the problem but the service is. They seem 2 forget about u when they put u in the corner away from everyone else. Great Wall is great chinese food. A typical dinner order for our family includes the following: lo mein noodles, barbeque pork, beef and brocolli, cashew chicken and of course the complimentary rice. The green tea at the table is real good along with the fried wontons and sweet and sour sauce that they give for free as well. My only problem with this place, if you want to call it a problem, is that they don't have complimentary refills on their soft drinks. Aside from that, everything else is great. This has been my favorite Chinese restaurant for years now. Tonight, I brought home at go order. The steamed rice wasn't quite cooked. The sweet and sour chicken seemed old, the coating was tough, but soggy. I also ordered beef with green peppers, which is my all time favorite. Usually, it's in a thick dark brown gravy. Tonight it was was light brown watery gravy. The meat was tender but there was more grizzle then there should have been. Just not the same. read more

Went there yesterday for a late lunch. I was happy to find that they were still serving (just before 3 in the afternoon). Since it was so hot, and I was so thirsty, I was quite pleased they also had a beer selection. I ordered shredded szechuan pork and it came with hot and sour soup. The soup tasted fresh, instead of gummy or cold from waiting hours, and it had nice spicy tang. The main course was very good. Waitstaff is very friendly and accommodating. After you go a few times they will probably recognize you and know your order. The food is good and served fast. They do substitutions and special orders with no problem. The place is old and could definitely use a renovation, but their prices are really cheap, with large portions. My family and I use to come here all the time and the food was great! However, when we went the other day we noticed the quality of the food has changed. Ever since the new management things haven't been the same. The sweet and sour shrimp my friend ordered was UNDERCOOKED and the sizzling rice with "chicken" was rubbery and couldn't be cut with a fork. It wasn't edible and we questioned if it was even chicken. From now on, were only getting the appetizer chips and tea because those items seem the safest. Service was great at least. read more

We've been customer at Great Wall for over 20 years, however that's all changed. We went there for an early dinner about 4:30 and ordered the lemon chicken. After 40 minutes we got to order and the place wasn't busy. After our dinner arrived an hour later, the lemon chicken breast was hard, gritty and non-edible. After tracking the waitress down to inform her of the problem, she seemed annoyed that the food was unacceptable. After we demanded to see the manager, the manager refused to come to the table. The waitress showed the manager the food and then informed us that we could choose another item from the menu. However when we chose another item the waitress said that item wasn't available. After the manager said something to the waitress she agreed to the food request. After another 15 minutes, when the replacement food arrived it was cold. Now it's 6:30 two hours after arriving for dinner and the bill arrives at our table. I was shocked at the total amount. The waitress had charged our dinner at the regular price instead of the early dinner prices. When we attempted to contact the manager again, he referred us back to the waitress. The managers refusal to address the problem and the issue of the food being over priced is no way to conduct business or treat your customers. Therefore this business has lost a customer and all referrals for future business. Please opt for another business that will treat you with respect and value your patronage. This establishment obviously doesn't value their customers anymore. read more

I have been eating at this establishment for 20 years and the Food is good, except for the white meat orange chicken. I'm not sure what's in it but it's nasty. This is going to be hard for me to write. My family has been coming here for over ten years. Today was the final straw. This place has been consistently going downhill for many years and we've kept giving this restaurant a second chance. To start we were seated very quickly but there was hardly anyone there, I also understand it's Christmas so we expected staff to be busy. We sat waiting to order for over twenty minutes. People who came in after us were served before us. Our table cloth was absolutely disgusting and caked in old food. Eventually after waiting for over 40 mins after we ordered, we got dinner and our plates of food were lacking. We ordered kung pao chicken had like NO chicken. We told our waitress and she just took the plate and said nothing. Our waitress was hardly at the table as well. We do understand she was busy but she'd walk right by us a lot without stopping. Eventually we brought our issues to the manager very nicely and he was extremely arrogant and rude and did not care about what we had to say because it was "not his problem". He came to the table very aggressively and demanded to see our king pao chicken plate that his server already took from us because he didn't believe us. We tried to show him the table cloth and he said rude comments and blew us off. Eventually we were able to get them to take off the king pao chicken but the manager was extremely rude. One of the young servers threw out rude comments about "not believing in Christmas" loudly so we could hear. Their bus boy/man yelled "watch out" to us as we were trying to get out of our seats so he could take our chairs and place them elsewhere. Overall experience was disgusting. Our family is very upset and I advise no one to go here because you will not receive kindness and quality service. I'd give zero stars if I could. read more

The best Chinese food I've had in the AV. Which means, not the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it's good enough for me and the hubby when that particular craving hits! We've had nothing but positive experiences every time we've gone with both food and servers. My favorite is the dinner specials they offer. It's a good price for a lot of food. In fact, they have great prices period. Once, we went in just for some egg drop soup and chicken fried rice for 2... we ended up with a check for only $9, plus tip, and we were full. Not the best Chinese I've ever had, but so far the best I've had in the AV. Generous and tasty portions, excellent value for the money, and adequate service. I know why a lot of people bag on the atmosphere of the place, but I'm there to eat not for a lesson in interior decorating. I had the General Tso's which was really good, and my girlfriend had mushu chicken, they served them already wrapped like a row of Chinese burritos. My daughter had the beef w/ broccoli which was also good. I also liked their hot andsour soup. Their egg rolls were alright, nothing to write home about but not the worst I've ever had. Overall way better than Panda despite what some haters have said. Also to all of those "this isn't authentic Chinese food" blowhards I have this to say, unless you're are Chinese or have eaten food in China then you haven't had authentic Chinese food either. Items are priced reasonably for a Chinese restaurant that serve pretty good Chinese food. Went here last night, the food was great. I got the 8.95 dinner to go. It came with Shrimp and chicken chow mein, fried rice, an egg roll, 2 wontons, paper wrapped chicken and a cup of wonton soup. The rice was a little bland but better once you add the hot mustard and soy sauce. The wonton soup was awesome and cured the stomach ache i was having and the chow mein was great except next time ill get it without chicken.. I dont like dark meat. read more

Located in the corner of Ave J and 20th st . West across from Sizzlers. It's roomy inside and when we were there for lunch it got really packed. Well I can't say its good chinese food. But all I can say is cheap Chinese food. For under $6 you can get a lunch special with a dish, fried rice, egg rolls, soup and unlimited hot tea. But for me it's just ok. Nothing big to rave about.
