I just finished reading several of the posted reviews, both positive and negative. And that fairly well sizes it up; the Great Wall eating experience is inconsistent. We've eaten there three times. The first time my wife and I ate there, finding it excellent all around. The second time my sister and her husband ate there with us, and again, very good. The third time, my wife, sister and niece and there husbands enjoyed most of the food, but the shrimp was not cooked right and the beef was tough. I'm not a shrimp eater, but I did enjoy the taste of the beef, though too "chewy." I mention the number of family members with me because I know evaluating such things is quite subjective. So the grade of A- slipped to a C+ but I'm willing to try it one more time on my birthday coming up in a week (12/18/2017). My experience there on my 4th visit will determine if I ever go back. I'm hoping for the best! If everything is hot and fresh, and the service is good, I'll do another rating with a better grade. We've been here a year from California, and the Chinese restaurants in this area are generally poor to average at best, even the ones some folks brag about. We were excited to see on their website that they now offer delivery... we called to place an order and were told that they are not accepting orders for delivery...??? Wish they'd take that off their site...very misleading....from the sounds of other reviews, I guess it's probably a good thing we didn't eat food from here. read more

I've been to the Great Wall in the past and each time it was dirty and the staff isn't even close to friendly. The bathroom is as bad as an outhouse...disgusting! We haven't been here for quite awhile because there are much better restaurants to go to, however; today we had coupons and my kids said they wanted to go because they love the shrimp. We met some friends here for lunch and all ordered the buffet. After waiting for over 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order we got up and got them ourselves from the fountain machine next to the buffet. We were given many dirty looks from the waiters but still were never asked if we needed anything. My 8 year old son sat through the entire lunch waiting for them to bring out shrimp to the empty shrimp tray in the buffet; it took them over 30 minutes. Everything I ate tasted very salty and there was no difference in flavor between one item and the next. The California rolls were the only buffet items that were satisfactory. To top off the terrible food, dirty tables around us and awful service, when I went up to pay for my kids and my buffets the cashier called over one of the male waiters who had been outwardly rude during our entire visit. The waiter came over and looked at my coupon and asked if our friends at the table were using a coupon as well. He proceeded to tell me that it says right on the coupon that only one coupon can be used per party. I read the coupon and it said nothing of the sorts. It did say that you could only use one coupon per person, the cashier read it and agreed with me. Nowhere in the restaurant did it say only one coupon per party. The rude waiter (Mike) then read the coupon and said, "oh this must be a different coupon, but it's still our policy to only accept one per party". If this is your policy then you need to make sure it's stated on the coupon and somewhere in your restaurant. It seems this waiter (or whatever he was) was just wanting to be a jerk more than anything. He was very rude and unprofessional. He let me use my coupon but he refused to let our friends use their coupon for their order. Not a very good way to make happy customers. read more

We have gone to the Great Wall on Eagle Rd and had great food and EXCELLENT service. You will not find that at the one on Overland and Five Mile. We did give it a try a couple of times since it is closer to our house. We weren't very impressed, it's not clean and the service at this one is awful. You stand at the front doors forever while you are ignored by staff who walk right by, but pretend not to see you or make eye contact. What happened this evening did seal the deal on the decision to NEVER eat here again. We decided to swing in and get a to-go container. We were ignored for awhile, but waited patiently. Someone finally graced us with a hello and asked how many, we said we just wanted ours to go, so he rang us up. $33 for to go buffet CHinese and he went to get our containers. You know the containers you get when you have a half a sandwich left at a restaurant. That was the size we had gotten. We asked if we got two since they were so small, they said there containers were always this size and said so in a rude tone where they tried to make us feel stupid. REALLY? Yah right, we had been here before, gotten items to go, and come on, all you could fit in it was a scoop of rice. The to-go boxes we had gotten before were twice the size. They had not adjusted the price, but the containers you get now are only a quarter of the size. So, we asked for our money back, they gave it to us without a second thought. WOW! Its been two hours since we left and my husband and I are still mad! I've never written a bad review ever, but thought people need to know about this. read more

This is the worst Chinese buffet at which I have ever eaten. Buffet choices are limited. Some buffet trays remained empty for our entire meal. Items that should have been hot were cold. Some entrees tasted nothing like traditional buffet items. The service was awful. Stay clear of this place to avoid grave disappointment. read more

My family and I like coming to this Chinese buffet because my favorite food is the general's chicken, mix chow mein, green beans, and pork fried rice. They make everything with its own flavor to it. Nothing tastes bland or fatty. We all get what we want since there is so much to choose from. And I do take out because the food tastes great for later too. I visited the new Great Wall on Eagle about 2 weeks ago. They had only been open for about 3 weeks It is a brand new place, new construction etc however, the interior has been completely furnished with used tables, chairs, fixtures and even carpet....Nothing was cleaned from one establishment to the next. The booths are crusted with food. The dividers between the booths have sticky hand prints and food smear on them. The carpet is positively filthy!!! The entrance is caked with gum and filth on the brand new concrete. The windows are disgustingly grimmy and are caked with dust from the construction. The food service buffett area appears fairly clean however I am sure it requires inspection. Upon departing I mentioned this to the cashier they quickly gave me my change and said thank you...As I drove off I noticed that the kitchen door was open to the outside. An employee was in back prepping some food and a large grey bin was on the ground in the sun full raw of chicken. Suprisingly this place is packed and is no doubt a disaster waiting to happen....Are people really that desperate to eat tons of food that they can't see the filith they are eating in. I have been to every single Chinese buffet I can get to in Boise. This includes Great Wall, China Grand, Jade Horse, City, and a few other smaller ones. Out of all of them I have tried Great Wall is by far the best. I love to come here on my birthday or special occasions. They have great Pot stickers and Crab ran goons. I also appreciate their sushi and the built in Mongolian grill that is free to use with the buffet. With many different desserts, including cheesecake, to choose from I will definitely continue to go there. read more

Our family has been going there for years, it's a favorite for birthday dinners. The service is good for a buffet, they keep the refills coming and clear away the empty plates fast. The buffet is fairly large and well stocked with fresh items. The girls love the stir fry where they select their own ingredients and the cook fries it up for them, kinda like a Mongolian BBQ. A solid four stars, I just don't think buffets deserve five stars. read more

Food is decent and if you want to start a possible sushi venture, it's a good place to start. The stir-fry is near the best. For price and selection, you can't go wrong here. The wait staff is friendly, seems at times are understaffed if the place gets full of people. Plan appropriately for the AYCE, you will be stuffed by the end. read more

Smelled horrible the second we walked in the door. But, others wanted to stay, they had chosen it. ***ABSOLUTELY FILTHY***. The food tasted like rancid oil, and so many violations of food presentation I lost count. Great wall is our favorite Chinese buffet in town and a go to whenever we want Chinese or a quick meal out. You can't go wrong with the buffet, and at only $11.25, it's a good value too.The Mongolian bbq is a nice addition to the traditional buffet with a variety of vegetables, two types of noodles, beef, chicken, and shrimp. While there are only 2 sauces, the mix of the two offers a nicely flavored dish. While your Mongolian is cooking, load up a plate from the buffet. Their general's chicken is excellent, sesame green beans are good, and you can't go wrong with any of the fried foods topped with sweet and sour sauce: Mandarin chicken, pork, or shrimp. A highlight on the buffet are the crab Rangoon which are golden fried wonton wrappers stuffed with imitation crab and cream cheese. While other restaurants skimp on the filling and are pale in color, the great wall's are perfectly golden and fully stuffed. Drizzle a little sweet and sour sauce on top, and add a dash of chili sauce to the sweet and sour to give it a little kick of extra heat and flavor, and these little puffs are excellent. To finish off my meal I skip the dessert cooler and go for the golden fried Chinese donuts, add a little soft serve, and you're set. The warm donuts start to melt the soft serve and the sugary oil from the donut mixes with the ice cream, and it's so yummy. If buffets aren't your style, and you have a little more time, you can order off their traditional menu, and the food is even better as it's warmer and crispier. Overall, a good choice if you've got a craving for Chinese food. read more

We'll be back! My husband I have very differing opinions of chinese food. He prefers buffet because he likes to SEE what he's getting and doesn't usually remember the names of his favorite dishes. I prefer family style dinner with a couple of authentic selections from the menu and being served. This restaurant gives us both of these options and then some. Enjoy the mongolian style grill, buffet and don't have to even wait for your server to refill your drink as there are fountains near the buffet. Lots of dishes to choose from! And every dish tastes unique! Also, if you'd prefer, menu selections are available as well. The only downside to this place was the previously prepared sushi rolls. Sub-par, but not the worst we've had. The manager took the time to meet us and show interest in how our dining experience was going and the server showed consideration with our small children when placing things on the table. We have been patrons of the Great Wall for years, but will not be back after today. (First off, to clarify, I am on a special diet and can no longer eat restaurant food.) Today after grocery shopping, my husband and I decided to stop and purchase a to-go buffet meal for my husband. The lunch buffet is supposed to cost $7.99. My husband picked his choices and added them to the to-go tray. When we went up to the counter to purchase the meal and leave, the cashier took the to-go tray from us without any explanation, went over to a different counter (where we couldn't see what he was doing with our food), and weighed it. Then again, without any explanation charged us almost $13.00 for the meal. There was a sign in the window that said a buffet meal included a drink and when I asked about it, the cashier gave us more attitude and said that was only for people who ate at the restaurant. I have to assume from his snotty attitude that he felt we were ripping off the restaurant. Apparently, I should have stayed in the car even though I was the one carrying the cash that paid for that overpriced meal. There are many places to eat in Boise; I will not tolerate being treated like that by staff who are supposed to be "serving me." read more

The Great Wall, Overland, is our favorite place to eat. The food is always dependably tasty. There is a good selection of spicy-hot selections, which makes my husband happy, and there is the tamer selections that I like, also. The egg-flower soup is some of the best in town, those deep-fried shrimp are crispy and delicious and the Sweet & Sour Pork and Chicken are tender and fresh. I always make a stir-fry, also, because they know how to really cook the meats so they are tender in with the fresh vegetables. The Crab Rangoons are seriously the best I've ever had and the Mussels are always a highlight of the meal. My husband loves the green beans, which are crisp & garlicy. The Black Pepper Shrimp is just hot enough for him and of course he likes to top his meal off with a scoop of ice cream. The helpful staff even offered to make me a root-beer float, which I accepted, of course. We'll be going here often and for a long time. Whenever we have people visit from out of town we take them here, and they've never been disappointed. read more

My wife and I love Chinese buffets. We have eaten at every buffet in Boise that we know of and we like them all. But, for the past 12 years or more, we love The Great Wall. We used to like going to a nice restaurant with good ambiance for special times like birthdays or anniversaries but found we usually regretted not going to the The Great Wall because of the good food and the variety. It is also clean and we have never been disappointed with the help. We have never had trouble getting a seat, unlike some of the so-called high class places in Boise. I have paid three times as much for dinners at local steak shops and favorite, popular spots in this area but, I have never left the The Great Wall hungry or less than satisfied. Most of the snobbish restaurants in the Boise area will not fill you up. Not even at 3 times the price. We are taking my father-in law to dinner tomorrow for his birthday. He gets to choose the place. We were happily surprised when he told us he wanted to go to The Great Wall. He's in Kuna and could have chosen a lot of place. But he knows what's good, too! read more

I've eaten three times from this restaurant. One as take out and the other two as delivery. The first time I ate there I ordered take out. They were able to make my food without msg which was great and the food was fresh, hot and quite tasty. I was pleasantly surprised as I've had trouble finding quality Chinese food in Boise. The other two times I ordered delivery and as I said earlier, they were both wrong. The manager does a good job trying to make things right for the customer which is great customer service, but he wouldn't have fix the mistakes of his staff if they had better knowledge of the restaurants dishes and strove to a higher standard as their manager. As for the food, well it's sort of hit or miss. The take out was really good. The first delivery was not bad, but the second delivery, well let's just say it was "grease city". I don't like greasy Chinese food, so I doubt I'll be back even though the manager made the effort to fix the error. read more
