The parking lot is huge but still seems inadequate for the number of cars/patrons in the area. The GW Supermarket is "open" so there's no walls separating market from other business stalls. The area has a bakery, trinket shops and a food court that well liked by customers. I see streams of people weekdays and weekends. What I liked was finding some special edition Yeo Chrysanthemum drinks linking to Chinese New Year (very cute) and sales on lucky red envelopes. The Great Wall is smaller than other Asian supermarkets in the area, which makes everything feel really cramped and crowded. The aisle is tight so movement with two - three carts can be challenging. The selection of variety of anything is limited so I can see the lower-than-normal rating. Overall, GW calls the basics and gives the community another market option rather than driving further into SGV. read more

Good market, not crowed. Vegis are by luck as some are very fresh and good prices, some are so long gone and some are just super expensive. I dropped by for some meat, green onions and bean sprouts. I checked out and asked to purchase a bag since I have a tiny tote only. I paid with my ebt card and then the lady said I owe her 0.20 cents for the bag before she will give me one. I did not have change and handed her a $5 and she won't take it or give me a bag. So after staring at each other, I just had put the meat in my tote and carried the other two items. So make sure you have exact change if you want bags....or remember to bring your own. I need to remember as I am super forgetful. read more

I shop at Great Wall Supermarket regularly, but today's checkout experience was very disappointing. My card didn't go through on the first attempt, which can happen occasionally. Instead of being patient or helpful, the cashier repeatedly blamed me and spoke in a very unfriendly and accusatory manner. I understand retail work can be stressful, but basic courtesy and professionalism should still be expected. This interaction made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I hope management takes customer service more seriously. read more

My Mom and I were at the food court area. We saw a gentleman holding one full size frozen durian. My Mom asked him how much was it. He said $2.98 per lb. He got a really well rounded durian that was almost perfect. That's what you want... all sleeves to have full durian pods. On our way out, I told my Mom that I wanted to check out the durians. I love durian!!! I was looking for an all rounded shape durian to get the most pods. You want a durian with 5 to 6 full sleeves of pods. I found two durians on the smaller size which was fine. One was 3.5+ lbs and the other 4.5+ lbs both for $25.50 total. What a deal! Whenever I buy 1 lb of frozen durian in a plastic container, it would cost me about $20 nowadays. I definitely got more than 1 lb worth of durian. It was so so very yummy! Seeds were mostly little and thin so more durian meat. Love my durian! I want to go back and buy some more. The service at this store is truly disappointing. I bought a durian from this supermarket, and when I opened it at home, it smelled terrible and was clearly spoiled. I went back to the store asking for a refund or exchange, but they refused, saying it was my own fault for not choosing the right one. How am I supposed to choose when the durian is completely wrapped and I can't see inside? They sold a spoiled product and still won't give a refund. Location: It's located in a plaza that has many other businesses and restaurants with it. There's a big parking lot, but the spaces are a bit on the smaller side. The lot can tend to get packed later in the evening and especially on weekends, so be prepared for that. Store: Everything is well laid out and organized into specific aisles/sections. Produce is fresh and well stocked, and the dry goods are regularly replenished. The meat and seafood sections are a little messy and unclean. However, the meat and seafood are very fresh. You have a choice of getting prepackaged fresh cuts of meat, or going up to the butcher to get what you want. The seafood is frozen fresh, or you can choose to pick a swimming fish if you need the extra freshness in your seafood. Prices: Very reasonable and cheap. Priced exactly like many of the other Asian markets in the area. Nothing that'll catch you by surprise here. Staff & COVID protocol: It's very clean and spacious, with plenty of space to move around while social distancing . The staff all wear masks and gloves, and they have hand sanitizer available for customers to use. This review is regarding the freshness of the produce. Due to location, I normally go to the one in Valley Blvd. Interesting thing is the same veggie that I bought from GW compared with the veggie I bought from other supermarkets, the price is higher and the quality is lower. Couple times I bough the pomelo from GW, most of them are getting bad in one or two days which is a waste of my hard earn money. Also, be careful on the items they scanned. I remember shopping at this store before it was called Great Wall supermarket. It used to be the Square Market. Been coming to this store for a while after shopping around the area for different grocery prices. They are pretty decent. I'm usually online checking their ads before going. I normally cross compare them against 99 Ranch with their internet ads. So far this is the only store that does sell frozen dumplings in multiples with a deal, like 3 bags or a certain amount. All the other stores are like $4 or $5 a bag. They also have a decent amount of fresh produce that are very comparable in price. I once found 1 pound boxes of blueberries for $1 a box; this is unheard of. They have a pretty large size parking lot, prior to the pandemic, it used to fill up fast. Nowadays, there's plenty of parking and no more circling around the area for a spot. After you are done shopping you can head over to the food court to grab some food to go. There's also other restaurants in the same plaza. I highly recommend checking out their ads if you're looking for a certain groceries and you can decide if it's worth coming to this store. read more

I ordered 4 Golden Pampanos for Crispy Fry and clean March 13, 2024. The order takers barely understand English as they are mostly speaking Chinese. All bloody and the fish was not cooked right. This was supposedly our dinner for my family, ended up refrying it ourselves coz the food was still raw in the middle as you can see. Did not bother to go back to ask for a refund but dude could have done it right. The only thing I like about this market is they have a small food court with cheap Asian food selections. My family recent visited this market during the covid-19 times. Not liking the not so strict social distancing are followed. The X make the spot is more like 3 ft rather than 6 ft. During these hard times, we just want to go in get the groceries and get out. Didn't find out until they got home a bag of chips bought was expired! Purchases on 05/11/20, and it has already been expired on 02/12/20. It's not the first time we bought stuff that has been expired there. That means they don't do quality Control check nor they clean and wipe down the shelves. There are the fresh produce, poultry and seafood, frozen food, snacks, condiments and asian household items. I love leafy vegetables and most of the time, they are fresh. I do prefer coming earlier so you can still get the fresher batch. bok choy, A-choy and Gai Lan ( chinese broccoli) are always the go to for me. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is opened for customers to do their grocery shopping. While I was grabbing my groceries from this establishment today, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. Came here to eat at the food court early in the morning and felt awkward because the security guy was talking to some person and I had to walk through them to get to the entrance. When we went to the food court, there seems to be a homeless old lady muttering and all the old people seemed to be staring at me that made me feel awkward. We found this hidden corner all the way in the back between the seafood section to shop for things we need for a funeral. When I exited, some old man that I don't recognize kept calling me "Jenny" at the entrance when that's not me that freaked me out. Tuesday grocery shopping, March 7th, 2023 at 10 am See something, say something!!!!!! - dungeness crab on sale at $5.99 per lb During the shopping, the crab pool was full and packed with crabs. I asked the person from the Fish department to pick 2 crabs for me, and I emphasis crabs must be in good shape with all legs and claws. This person fully understood my requests and re-confirmed with me that the bagged crabs were good. After, I paid straight at the cashier. I am shocked when I back home and saw the crabs. Both crabs were handicapped, one was missing a piece of claw and 2 legs, and the other one was missing 3 legs. Of course, it's not a big deal, unfortunately, all dishonesty adds up, and it still considers a scam and unethical to do business with. At Smart and Final sell for .50 cents per pound. I guess that's how they balance their prices. Sale items at a cheaper price and made their money back from other items. Produce section was jusy OK, large variety with fruits and vegetables displayed, nicely organized, but didn't look as fresh as it could have been . Meat dept. is good, clean, no smell, workers here were helpful and attentive. The seafood dept. is the best of the three departments. Everything looks fresh and clean, no smell which is a good thing for a seafood section. Large tanks holding live crabs, lobsters & fishes, nice place to shop for your seafood needs. Cashier's were pleasant & friendly. There is really no major issues with the market itself, above average. The one and only problem is outside in the parking lot, parking can be a challenge. During the peak shopping times, and all day Saturday & Sunday. Patients is definitely a must, and having luck couldn't hurt. read more

Several Chinese types or several Japanese types? How about yogurt drinks from Greece? They had that. Chinese spinach? Check. Japanese bean sprouts? Yup and in a few different brands too. I stopped into this store because I was going to grab some food at the food court. I typically go to 168 or Cali but wanted to see if anything was different here. I was actually impressed with how fresh their products is compared to most Asian markets. I also think they are much cleaner than the others. I didn't get any meat but at a glance, everything looked very fresh, clean and organized. The prices were very reasonable. Face masks were on sale for $6.95 box of 50. Large pump size hand sanitizers were 2 for $5. Can't beat those prices. They also had a variety of kitchen supplies . The checkout lines were properly marked on the floor so there were no confusion. Basically there was one line per 2 registers. Register 1 & 2 had one line going down one aisle. Register 3&4 shared a line and 5&6 shared a line. As for the costumer service, let's be honest...I don't think it exists in any Asian grocery stores around SGV. Most of the time they don't understand what you are saying unless you have a photo to show them or they simply look, ignore or walk away from you. The parking lot is large and busy. Weirdly enough, some parking spaces are slotted for 30-minute parking only. This place is due for a review.. it's ok, workers are a hit and miss.. sometimes they are very helpful (never had any issues with the meat counter) but stockers, sometimes they react with annoyance or mad when I ask them where things are (I usually goto the arcadia location). Store is clean, but carts are dirty, they can use some cleaning. The review is based in the store, not sure if the cooked area is part of the store.....
