That said, you have to be careful with packaged frozen seafood. Unless you know exactly what it is…read moreand how to cook it, do not just trust your eyes. Do not assume that something will have the same taste and texture as what you remember from hometown just because it looks similar. I once bought frozen razor clams that turned out to be chewy, smelly, and almost impossible to chew. Another time, I bought a bag of frozen green mussels. They had exactly the same shape and color as the ones I usually bought from Chinese markets, but they were not cooked. Once defrosted, they practically melted into water. Vietnamese markets also sell many kinds of fish by weight. Most of them are good, but you need real experience when buying raw seafood. Otherwise, it is very easy to waste money. Thuan Phat is a typical Vietnamese market in this sense. You can get most of the ingredients a Chinese family needs. Their fried or dried pork skin is actually much better than what I have found in most Chinese grocery stores. But again, only buy what you know. You need to know the quality, and you need to know how to process it. This Thuan Phat also has several tanks and a full seafood counter for live seafood, including crabs, tilapia, and other fish. The prices are lower than at many Chinese markets, and honestly, the quality is not bad at all.

I am no stranger to Thuan Phat El Monte Superstore. I have been here many times in previous years…read more It is a huge Asian supermarket comparable to other Asian supermarkets such as 99 Ranch, San Gabriel Superstore, GW or Great Wall Supermarket, etc. Free parking is plenty in the front and back of the store. There are individual merchandise and food vendors along the front inside of store. They carry many different international dry goods, perishable food items, fresh produce, meat and seafood, frozen items, and so much more. You can spend hours shopping here. Most recently, my Mom and I came to checkout the sugarcane juice vendor. We got ourselves one large cup with ice for $7. It is $12 if you want no ice. You have to pay more money if you want all juice. Sugarcane juice tasted refreshing and sweet. I would get it again with no ice next time. I may just bring my own ice or drink it as is.

They…read moreget a 4 star It was a mission searching for specific chicken thighs with skin-- couldn't find any at GW or 99 Ranch mkts. Sure, Costco has the best price but it will not fit at our Airbnb space in the shared fridge Navigating the store was easy. Everything is found where it should be found. I used the self checkout, no service was rendered at this shopping experience but the market looks decently well kept. Parking is free & ample.

So everybody needs to go home…read more The guy at the self checkout is doing just enough so he doesn't get fired which is OK on paper, but it's frustrating if you have to deal with that as a customer. The guy just acts like he hates his life and it's your fault for being a part of it. If he was walking on the way to work and someone offered him another job he would take it. And he smells horrible. I could understand if you had a hygiene problem, but your attitude was better, but his attitude is just as bad if not worse than his hygiene. And then he has the nerve to treat other people like he smells. It's insane. The cashier with the salt and Pepper hair is just over it completely but as over it as he was, he was the most helpful to me. I wish I would've remembered his name so I can give him a shout out, but I think he was turning off station number seven at about 6:50 PM. But he was an older guy. Over it, but still willing to help. You can tell he's one of those guys who picks up the slack because nobody else wants to do it and he's sick of it, but he hides it so well.

Service was kind of slow, seems like this side of the deli was being neglected so I did have to wait a little for someone to notice me and take my order. Really solid burrito, and the cafe horchata is pretty much a latte. Both very good. I forgot to take a picture of my burrito and drink so here is my empty cup. Lol

They have a nice bakery with lots of fresh Mexican sweet bread or pan dulce, a good amount of bakery items including cakes, fruit tarts and fresh bolillo. There is a cold and hot food express items section, with hot plate combos and aguas frescas to chose from. They have a large selection of dried chilies both prepacked and sold by bulk/weight, the produce looks fresh, the store was clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. This location was a bit out of my way but it was worth the visit as I was able to find everything I was looking for and more. I even found a large selection of Mexican Candies that I had been craving. It's a little dangerous knowing they have it all here but happy to know where I can find it! Plenty of parking available in the private shared lot.
