We found this little hidden gem and I'm so glad we did! The food was absolutely amazing--everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. My husband ordered the gyros salad and I had the gyros wrap with lentil soup, and every bite was delicious. What really made the experience even better was the service. George was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He took the time to talk with us and genuinely get to know us, which you don't see often anymore. That kind of customer service makes a huge difference. We tried this little gem last week, looking for some Greek flavors, which they have, but they also have an Italian menu as well. They do a big takeout business and catering is much a part of their model, so be sure to call ahead to see that they are open and not running around serving their outside customers. The food was inoffensive, nothing truly spectacular, but reasonably priced and the service could not have friendlier. In fact, the owner stopped in and came to our little table to chat. A lovely man, charming and with a great sense of humor. This is the Rancho Bernardo location and honestly it's probably the most authentic Greek food I've had in the area. I love Mediterranean food. I grew up on Mediterranean food. I wish I could give this place 4.5-4.7 stars, but I don't see a way to do half-points here. First the pita bread and hummus were excellent Best in the area and they were fairly generous with the pita bread. The salad was extremely fresh and what you expect to get at a much higher priced sit down Greek restaurant. The chicken souvlaki had excellent flavor wasn't too dry for being chicken breast and I could tell that it would make an excellent wrap similar to the offerings I've had in stellar locations like San Jose and San Francisco. The rice was similarly well done, not just an afterthought like you get at a place like Victors across the street. It had an excellent texture and flavor. Similarly the chicken lemon soup was excellent. The only thing in the meal that bugged me and I have to nitpick on is that the Gyro meat was cut fairly thin on the harder side when I prefer it to be a little thicker and juicier. And the portion of your own meat for a plate was a little bit stingy. Lastly, this is hands down the best Baklava I've had in this area. Extremely good. It's expense... but very good... something you'd serve at a nice restaurant with a scoop of high quality vanilla bean ice cream with it. I really want to try their Gyro Pizza next. If they can do a top-notch Gyro Pizza I'm hooked. I'm glad we found this place it's a little bit out of the way behind a building. So they probably have a hard time getting people to come and try them. I encourage you to do so I think you'll enjoy it. I was craving a gyro for lunch today so ordered on Grubhub via Yelp. I also added a side salad so I could feel like I was being a little healthy. I've never been here before and was surprised to see how many tables they had around noon. My side salad was a $3 add on and worth it. The produce was fresh and I enjoyed the dressing which was some kind of creamy vinaigrette. The gyro was good, but the meat was a bit more steamed than I'm used to. Greek Palace is the restaurant portion of the Comedy Palace. I went here a few weeks ago with some friends. They had an outdoor virtual comedy show that was shown on their tv. They made sure that tables were at least 6 feet apart and they also took our temperatures. The staff is really friendly. You can tell they care a lot about their business. The Greek Palace offers Gyros, Kabos, Sandwiches and a few other items on their menu. Our waiter from Brazil was super duper sweet and extra nice! So awesome! Food was pretty good. Service was pretty good. But, the place didnt' seem that clean. So, it brings it down to "a-Ok." The tablecloth looked like it had some old drink stains. And, my bf dropped his fork and said the carpet was dir-tay! Hence, we couldn't apply the 10 second rule because quit frankly 10 seconds would be have been too long for a clean fork to be on that dirty floor. Other than that...my CHICKEN SOUVLAKI (marinated chicken tenders) were pretty good and not dry. It came on top of some rice and came with pita bread and tzatziki sauce. The bread was fresh and soft, which is always great. The lunch plate was like $9.50. Overall, this place didn't make a great impression on me. Just an okay one. I'm a huge fan of Greek food, I love that San Diego is filled with so much great food from different countries that makes this place a must visit and must eat and must see San Diego. I have eaten plenty of Greek food from many different places over the years. Based upon the food alone I will give it four stars, the reasons are for one the food came out extremely hot and fresh, they put plenty of gyro meat inside of the pita , The Tzatziki sauce was very delicious and had plenty of flavor, and without that it's just not the same. As far as the service I was greeted by two different women which were very kind and very nice and took good care of me while I ordered my food. The one thing that I was a bit disappointed in is it took a bit longer than I was expecting To get my order, it was not over dramatic as far as timeframe goes but especially when I have a limited time for lunch I was hoping to have my food out a bit sooner, overall the food is good and the customer service is good. read more

We're here for an album release show. The performance was fantastic under the Mediterranean Jazz and Supper Club. Because there was a minimum order of 2 items, we begrudgingly ordered dinner here. There was also some confusion as to how service was being provided. Because it was general seating, we weren't sure if we were to order at the bar and they bring the food to you? Or if a server was suppose to come. We sat and waited a good 20 minutes and nobody came to greet us or asked if we would like anything. My husband got up and walked to the bar to order our food and drinks. That was when they informed us that someone was suppose to come take our order. They should've explained that when we checked in at the door. The service itself could've been better also. The server looked lost and confused. He only refilled our drinks once, and never checked to see if we wanted something else. At one point, he walked up to the lady in front of us asking if she ordered a Perrier. When she said no, he came to us and asked if I ordered a Perrier, to which I also said no. He then looked really dumbfounded as he wandered aimlessly with this bottle of Perrier in his hand. Poor guy must've been new, or at least I sure hope so. We both got the Gyro dinner plate. My oh my... Gyro meat: It had a weird texture like it was reheated. It didn't have that "just sliced from the broiler" flavor. Pilaf: Microwaved, mushy, flavorless, and overcooked. But the food seemed so simple, yet it was very good to my surprise. + Gyros & Spanakopita Lunch Combo (Served with rice, pita, tzatziki sauce and choice of salad or soup) The gyro was tender and nicely seasoned. Went on a Friday night with a Groupon. We were promptly greeted and immediately seated. Our server, who I'm assuming was also the owner, was friendly and informative. He offered some recommendations but wasn't pushy about it. We opted for a gyros plate and a souvlaki plate. They came with a generous amount of food and a tasty side salad to boot. The hummus appetizer was tempting but the plates were so large that I don't think we could've eaten it. The server recommended a dessert that is apparently infamous; a baked custard inside phyllo dough. He told us that it's so well-known that Costco had been considering carrying it at their stores. I ordered takeout last night, my first time here. GPS got a little befuddled, but I made it. The dark entrance was a little odd, but I was immediately welcomed by super-friendly owner guy. My food was ready, so he bagged it up, I paid and left. Then I got stuck in traffic. I couldn't resist nabbing the spanakopita our of the box to eat while I was stuck in the car - it was delicious! Fluffy, crispy, and a wonderful savory filling. Not greasy at all! Traffic continued and I had the little cup of lemon potato soup, so I started sipping that out of the cup... YUM! Epic. Amaze balls. Out of this world. I just felt like saying those words...so now that I got that out of my system...let's carry on with the review, shall we? Greek Palace is a strange name for this place. It doesn't quite step up to it's 'Roya'l indications. My suggestion? Greek Chalet, Greek townhouse, Greek friend's basement? At any rate, it's strangely attached to a Comedy club right next door called: Comedy Palace. (So, I think that oddity is solved...) Personally, I did not enjoy passing through a cloud of smoke ( a smoking station was right outside the front door) to get into the restaurant. As soon as we entered, I was put off by the unflattering neon lights that gave The Greek Palace a heavy 'nightclub', 'Less than Zero' vibe. As soon as we sat down, a friendly waitress took our drink order. My husband and I chatted about the atmosphere and even considered leaving but the waitress was so just nice we couldn't split. We felt committed! So, for the first time in our lives, we indulged in a meal that was bathed in blue light...Not going to lie--it was a strange experience...almost like eating in a strip club or vegas slot bar... Our appetizer of dolma was small but tasty, the dill dressing was refreshing and not heavy. Our chicken Mediterranean and Greek chicken salads were LARGE and surprisingly on-point. My husband and both agreed that the meat was flavorful; well seasoned and quite tender. At the end of the day, what The Palace lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in taste. Had lunch with my coworkers today. I played it safe with a gyros salad ($9). It was quite tasty however inconsistently made. One of my coworkers ordered the same salad but hers did not have any onions but included a couple peppercini's, while my salad had enough onions for the two of us and without any peppercini's. Besides those oversights, the table consensus was the food was delicious. A total of 15 attended. I called 1 day prior and asked if there would be issues seating 15 at noon. The lady on the other end of the line said it would not be a problem. We arrived at noon and our table was ready. They were quick to bring us our drinks and once our entire party arrived we were able to order. A number of us have eaten here and remembered how spacious it is which was the main driver for selecting this location. We noticed the place did not get full at lunch time, at least it didn't on this Thursday. As for the location, the place reminds me of something you would see in old vegas. If you're a lover of Greek food- you MUST try Greek Palace. With yesterday being my birthday and my fiancee currently suffering a recent injury stuck in bed rest- we decided to order in. When I went to pick up my order, I was told that the Tiropita appetizer I recently fell in love with (and ordered again) they were out of. Being it was my birthday- I was low key devastated as I had been craving this heavily since first trying it. Pretty sure that the man who helped me could see the sheer disappointment on my face, and went above and beyond to find something else to substitute the appetizer to ensure my birthday dinner was still a success. After suggesting a few options- he offered me grilled feta (which I have never tried before- but I LOVE cheese esp Feta- so how could I go wrong?) . In going above and beyond- I really just want Greek Palace to know that I appreciated the suggestions, and to my surprise, the grilled feta was just as delicious as the Tiropita. WOW- was it YUMMY. To top it off- being it was my birthday and for the inconvenience, the grilled feta was offered to me on the house. All this to say that I really appreciated the extra extension of customer service- as that is REALLY hard to find these days. Greek Palace has the option of dine inside, but we opted to sit outside because of the nice weather. We were the only patrons dining in while they had plenty of take out orders coming in. Our waiter was very attentive and checked up on us just the right amount. We ordered the onion rings, two Greek salads, and the gyro and the western gyro with fries. The food was so good! A client of mine chose this place because it is right next to the Kearney Mesa Courthouse where we had a little business that day. In spite of the name, I got the impression that this place was more of a bar/comedy club and the food was an afterthought. A comedy club that probably hadn't been remodeled in 20 years in fact. I don't know what kind of lunch crowds they draw, but by the time we got there at 1:45 what ever lunch rush their may have been had died down and there were just two or three other parties in the place. I ordered a combo off the lunch menu; Gyros & Spanakopita. I didn't happen to catch it on the menu, but that comes with either soup or salad. i chose Lemon Chicken Soup which was quite good. In fact it was easily the highlight of the meal. My client chose the salad and got a small Greek salad that looked a little tired to me, but he described as "OK". The waitress grabbed our empty plate and bowl, returned to the kitchen, took the order of people who came in near us, brought their drinks, brought their meal to them, read War and Peace, refilled their drinks and brought us our food. Actually, I am just kidding, I don't know if she actually brought the other people a refill. But seriously, we weren't especially pressed for time, and weren't monitoring the clock, but it must have taken 15-20 minutes from the end of the soup to the start of the meal. The food was a mixed bag my Gyros were mediocre, There were about 6 or 8 small slices of beef arranged on a bed of rice to make it look like more. There were 3 pita triangles served along side & some tzatziki sauce in a chilled metal portion cup. My nitpick is with the presentation; wrap the meat in a pita and it will stay warm. Spread the meat out so all the surfaces are exposed and it gets cool rather quickly. It could just be me, but I would rather have a warm meal than a pretty plate. As for the Spanakopita, it probably was one of the last pieces of a large tray that lasted through the lunch rush and it showed. What should of been flaky was more of a crunchy texture, it was served at room temperature. It looked like spinach but didn't taste like much of anything. Nothing was awful, but it wasn't great either. One last comment on the service. At the end of the meal, I said good-bye to my client and went to the rest room as he drove off. When I left the restaurant, both the waitress and the manager were returning from the parking lot. My client had left his credit card behind (yes my clients buy me lunch--how cool is that?) and they had gone outside in different directions to try to catch him. They told me about it right away, and I was able to call and catch him when he was just a block or two away so he could return before he got on the freeway. Came here because of a Get 1 Free deal I purchased, $18 for $30 of food. I live Greek food, am 1/2 Greek and friend lives in area. Why not check it out. Parking was available. Knew this place doubles as a comedy club and saw it opened at 6:30pm for seatinf so made sure to come for the restaurant when they opened. Walked in what appeared to be the restaurant. Sat at booth, no greeting though a couple people behind bar. People were mulling on the other side ( wall of comedy club) and it appeared they were being serviced?.. Changed booths. Waited some more. Finally got greeted by a gentleman, who turned out to be the owner. He asked us uf wed been before, and what brought us in. I mentioned my coupon. Long story short, he said he didnt sign up for this "deal", hed give me 20% off my bill. I can deal with company. That was fine by me. Ordered drinks, 2 Cosmos and called the vodka. Also ordered 2 apps. Then George left and turned us over to Tony the bartender. Tony would dissappear, no follow through, others would serve us,. We must of had 4 different people servicing us. George did come back and ask how things were..and we chatted. Enjoyed talking with him. Easy to talk with..but service was fragmented and inconsistent, taking long times in between. Had to wait a li g time and finally gad to ask for our check. Surprise, Tony showed up. Where did he come from? He was MIA most of the time. I have had Greek Palace several times through catering and pickup orders, but I cannot comment on actually dining in. Through catering, the food has always been good and hot. You never know when you pick up large orders if some items have been sitting awhile while they get the large order together, but ours has always been fresh. Great to feed a crowd! My favorite item I have had is the Chicken Souvlaki. The chicken is so tender every time - I wish I knew their secret! And then they season and cook it perfectly. I have also had their hummus, pita, rice, greek salad, Spanakopita, and baklava. All have been really good with good portion sizes. If I wasn't sharing the hummus with others I could definitely just keep snacking on that and stuff myself! Also, once on a carryout they forgot an item and called me right away. I was luckily not far and able to go back and get it. I can't say that any other restaurant has ever called when they forgot something. This was easily the best Greek food I've ever had in San Diego after living here for over 20 years. I ordered delivery...the gyro plate was delicious: the gyro meat was of quality, and was very tender; the rice was cooked perfectly and was flavorful; the serving of grilled veggies was ample; the spanakopita arrived soft/soggy - but that was due to the delivery packaging, and honestly, it still had a teeny amount crispness to the outside - I can't even complain about this because it was still so delicious. I also ordered a side of hummus and pita - pita was great, hummus was ok but nothing to write home about. I prefer a creamier-style hummus and this was sort of grainy. Went here again and OMG... I'm addicted to their Greek salad with grilled chicken. It's my understanding they make the salad dressing themselves.. Is that true? If so, they really should market it, because it's the best tasting Greek salad dressing I've had and I eat about 3 salads (mostly Greek or Mediterranean) each week. Lol..
