The toughest reviews are for places you want to love, but ended up only liking. Wait staff was good. Standard service. Noisy environment, but not obnoxious. Nothing extra, nothing intentional - standard faire. Food was lacking attention to detail. Iceberg salad was in not trimmed properly - white lettuce stalks left on the base of the salad - ugh. Next, well seared scallops on a butter lemon sauce that broke because of the temperature of the sauce & the temperature of the scallops - failed cooking 101. Finally, the filet was...fatty & not seasoned well. Bummer. Mediocre experience only gets 3 stars. And that is a gift. Why in the most bountiful CA valley are there zero 5 star restaurants??? We stopped in and had lunch this week, what a pleasant surprise. Not expecting much but getting more than expected. I ordered the special, Prime Rib sandwich with grilled onions and mushrooms and my other half ordered the Cobb Salad with Steak. The prime rib sandwich came with a choice of side, I picked the side salad, that was a meal in itself. I never touched the sandwich, took it home for dinner. The cobb salad, which came with a side of toasted bread, was beautiful and delicious! Never had to ask for refills on our water or tea. We really enjoyed our lunch and the service was great! Come to find out, the owners of Green Barn Whiskey Kitchen also own the Dibble Creek Outpost on HWY 36 west. We had our Christmas party there last year and really enjoyed ourselves. read more

What a beautiful small town place. The service was a little slow at 7:00, we talked with a few others at the bar while we were waiting for our table and 6:00 it's empty and 7:00 it's wall-wall and people are waiting, so, of course they will be a little slow in catching up during the busiest times, but we were there for a relaxing dinner and some conversation with others, and this worked well into our plans. Nothing worse than being rushed through our dinner. The my strip was perfect. A beautiful crust on the outside, and it was super tender. I've had rare prime rib which wasn't as tender as this NYStrip. (Mine is med-rare). The chef knows how to cook. My wife had the Beef Stroganoff, and while it was her first time ordering that anywhere, so she can't compare if it's better than any others which she's had, she said it was delicious and would order it again, and the steak in that was super tender also. It's really easy to slow cook the beef there and make it beef chunks. They did a great job. The staff was friendly, the bar l tender was so-so. I love this restaurant so much I find reasons to go to Redbluff from Sacramento. We have had Brandi as our server twice and she has been amazing each time. The food is to die for. We always get the brewsky bread (it reheats BEAUTIFULLY) and I always get one of their hand cut steaks. We love the decor and it feels super classy. Colossal disappointment, from the apps to the dessert. Steaks ordered rare were medium/well, the loaded baked potato "soup" wasn't soup-it was simply the same loaded baked potato scooped into a cup. Our kids are pretty easy to please, but they wouldn't even eat the Mac and cheese-astonishing. It resembled Kraft in a box, except it was dry and tasteless. The worst part? Our inattentive waitress treated us like an annoyance. We were hoping for drink refills, a dessert menu etc, but she spent 20+ minutes chatting and joking with the table of rude, intoxicated diners behind us. These loud people stood up between tables for half their meal, actually backing into us as we were trying to eat and hovering over our table....it was truly bizarre. The waitress couldn't bother to clear any of our dirty dishes, instead delivered dessert right on top of them. We were so glad to get out of there! Our group always comes to Red Bluff for an annual event. Never again will we darken the doorway of this place. I see now why they're so poorly rated. Yuck, in every way. read more

OK, let's start with the name, I was hoping for some high end bourbon, and they had a few good ones, but nothing spectacular. Looks like they have a good selection of irish whiskey and the more known scotch brands, which is not bad for a small town. I had a Buffalo trace, a very drinkable bourbon. They had a nice zinfandel. The service was very good. Ordered the "chef's special " beef medallions. Overcooked. They were tasty because they came with mushrooms, which are one of my favorite things, but not even close to medium rare. Between medium well and well done. The baked potato was cold. Not warm, cold. If I hadn't just driven 10 hours, I would have sent it back. They did knock off my wine charge when I said something. All in all, if it hadn't been for the service, they would have gotten 1 star, but the staff was very good. My family took me to the Green Barn for my birthday last week. We were seated promptly, water came efficiently, and our drinks were delivered promptly as well. We are a family of buffalo wing eaters, so if they are on the menu we'll probably order them. They came out hot, crispy on the outside, but they drizzled a bit of the buffalo sauce on the wings instead of shaking them. A minor thing maybe, but there ended up being more sauce on the plate than on the wings. We ordered calamari as well, and it was served with our meal, even though we intentionally ordered our starters prior to our main course to avoid this. The breading fell off the calamari as soon as you picked up a piece, and you were left holding a stick of calamari steak. I'm not averse to this, but the rest of my family had no interest and we left with half the order still on the plate. Of the four of us there, my daughter is the one who has a definite opinion about how steaks should be cooked. Rare. The rest of us should just eat chicken. The four of us ordered some sort of beef, my daughter a steak. It came out medium-well. My wife's medium-rare actually came that way, and they traded, so neither got what they had ordered. (As a family we rarely send anything back. The damage is done. She'd be eating her potato and her new steak would arrive as the rest of us are ready to leave). I ordered the chimichurri flank steak with a loaded potato. Bravo on the steak and the chimichurri sauce. But the bed of grilled onions and jalapenos were a. lacking jalapenos, and b. so greasy I couldn't eat it. And finally, the loaded potato came with nacho cheese sauce on it. If you put nacho cheese sauce on your potato you have removed any kind of "high-end" moniker. I was going to go with a 2-star ranking, but the service was really pretty good. If I return I'll go with a steak or pork chop without anything like grilled onions (onions simmered in oil). And a potato, that I will ask them to hold the nacho cheese sauce. Came here after our wedding today and our server Tasha had 3 tables, one of which was party of six, we were a party of four, and the other table was a table of two. The service was so slow. She prioritized every table but ours. My tea was empty for many minutes before she refilled it, the food was decent although I asked for my tri tip to be rare and it was cooked very well done. My husband got the bbq burger and there was a side of mayo but that fine but what wasn't fine was the fact that there were cheese crumbles in the mayo, feta to be exact. Cross contamination is not okay... ever. The bill was $88 but due to the bad service we only tipped 15% ~ what servers get taxed on. I am happy to tip 20% but only when the service is actually good and we feel well attended too. The bill sat paid before being processed for many minutes as well. I am very disappointed because I have been wanting to try this place for many years even since it was still called green barn. Although, we will not be returning. read more

We came here. .like around happy hour time. We sat ourselves in the dining area. Sat there 5 mins. No one came. So we went into the bar area. There were a few people in there at the bar. Another 10 mins go by...nothing. and we notice a couple people are now seated in the dining area and the server has taken their orders. They have their drinks ect. So we're contemplating moving again. We're staring at all the workers. And start to get up and finally they asked have we been helped. Our table is empty of anything...we've sat here and listened to you all talk at least 20 mins now. Anyhow...we order finally. Our food was good. Drinks...blah. who can't make am old fashioned? Went the other day for a late lunch and service and food was great! Peyton our server was so attentive and just so sweet. We got there at a weird hour so dinner menu wasn't out yet but close enough to check with the cook and we were still able to order clams which are our favorite SO GOOD! We shared a porterhouse and tried the Cranberry Crown mule which was 10/10 The porterhouse is MASSIVE (24 oz) we didn't even come close to finishing it. Maybe they were short-staffed tonight??? It took almost 2 hours to get our food, salad and soup took over 40 minutes . When we finally got our steaks. One was not the steak we ordered other one was not even cooked to what was ordered it was beyond rare, but after waiting almost 2 hours to get our food, we were going to send it back. so I paid for a fillet mignon, my meal was bread, which I had to ask for salad and a glass of wine . The Green Barn Whiskey Kitchen is the restaurant in Red Bluff where all locals go, so you know the food is going to be good. The menu has a wide variety of selections. Appetizers included the artichoke dip, which was excellent. The clam chowder was also a hit. Standards such as the hamburgers and the French Dip sandwiches were also made to order and absolutely delicious. The meal ended with a yellow cake and vanilla ice cream dessert that would have been made by your Grandma. Spectacular. Our servers, Lonnie and Morgan went above and beyond to make sure our experience was the best. Many thanks to these ladies for making our dinners memorable. I have been here for dinner once when visiting Red Bluff and really enjoyed. Great service, Great food. I was in town once again and decided to have lunch with some friends here. It was seat yourself, the service was very slow to get greeted. We were told there had been a large party earlier and that was the reason. Ok I get that tho I never did see any large party. So we finally get greeted and our drink order taken. Again a very long wait, to the point that another waitress came and asked if we had been helped, she then went to see what was taking so long and we got our drinks directly. We had been going to order an appetizer but by the time she came to take our order we decided there wasn't time for that. The food came out with cold fries, but we didn't want to complain so just ate. Later in the day 3 of us got sick with bad cramps and nausea There were 5 of us, out of the 5, 3 had ranch, that is the only thing we could figure that we all had that was the same, that must have been somehow spoiled. My parents were coming to visit me here in Red Bluff and I needed to think of a place to go for dinner. Asking around, this Green Barn Whisky Kitchen is supposed to be the nicest place in Red Bluff. It used to be a place called the Green Barn, which was really old school dinner house, but this new version is more modern with contemporary dishes. It seems sort of like a Cattlemans but without the cowboy stuff. More like a Black Angus steakhouse. The service was very good, so no probs there. We all had steaks, Dad the big Rib Eye, Mom and me had the Filet Mignon. The steaks were cooked as requested and had a nice flavor to them. Maybe not the flavor of super high end aged 45 days steak, but normal good. The salads were good too. This isn't a cheap place to eat really, so come here for a special occasion. read more

This was our first visit here and really wanted to like it, however frankly it was a disaster. We checked the online menu before we went and there seemed to be many options at reasonable prices. When we arrived there were two tables that each had 2 people yet there literally was not a single clean table to sit at. The sign said to seat yourself so we found the least dirty table. After a wait with no one around we took a menu from the counter. There were just a few items on the menu and the prices were DOUBLE the prices online but we were there so we ordered a burger and a tri-tip sandwich. To say the service was slow was an understatement and the restaurant was practically empty! When my husband asked what drinks were available he was told the standard but was not told there was a bar as he had hoped to have a drink with his meal. The food arrived and it was less than stellar. My tri-tip sandwich was ok but my husband's burger patty looked like a McDonald's cheeseburger patty and he said it tasted like maybe the meat was bad. About 15 minutes after we got there a large party came in, were seated at a table that was cleared for them by a different server, brought different large menus, served beers, and had their food arrive about the same time we got ours. Our server never checked on us, offered to refill our drinks, nothing. Finally, 10 minutes after having finished our meal we flagged down a young girl (who was finally clearing tables) to ask for our check. She eventually came and we were prepared with our card. We had 2 sandwiches and an iced tea and it was $50 without a tip. After a long wait, we went to the register to wait. She asked how it was and we said not so good to which she replied, oh well next time you come in try the steak sandwich. There will not be a next time. Very disappointing. read more

I really want to give more stars but simply cannot. We went in for dinner and were starving, it wasn't too busy. Ordered the calamari, good portion but took forever. Drinks took forever. Had to ask for bread, 2 pieces in the basket. Then we ordered the 30oz tomahawk steak dinner for two with mashed potatoes and salad. It took well over 30 minutes to get our dinner. The server brought the steak and mashed potatoes but completely forgot our salads. Mashed potatoes were borderline cold. THEN the 30oz steak was NOT 30oz unless they also weighed the giant bone. We received maybe 12oz of meat to share. The steak was barely big enough for one person and not one who eats big portions. Our tab was $164 for a dinner for two, 4 drinks and an appetizer. We will go elsewhere next time. Super disappointed. read more

3 years ago this was a 5 star restaurant. We used to go weekly. And the wait staff were awesome, fast, happy, and obviously liked their jobs. Over the years the quality of food and service has declined. We usually order the Cowboy Rib Eye or the Tomahawk. We keep returning occasionally in hopes that the quality returns but alas. We went 2 weeks ago and the sweet potato fries appeared to be the frozen / nuked type and had no flavor. The baked potato had a Cambell's soup nacho cheese abomination topper with a skin on it representing its significant time to congeal before it was served to me - I had to send it back to the kitchen. The tomahawk was ok, but should have been glorious. And half the time, over the few times we went this last year, I had abdominal distress later that night... Id really love to see it return to its former glory. Willing to pay for good food and service. read more
