Have used them twice - problems each time. Pre-sales is great (Bill Cook), but seems they contract the work out to the lowest bidder. No quality control after they have your money. First time - had a plenum box replaced at an old Hyde Park house. No one living there. They opened the attic access and left it open for days. When they finally showed up and replaced the plenum, they left the old in the attic along with any other trash including lunch! I called and Green Collar came out and cleaned it up. This is just a plenum replacement on a small unit! 3200 sq ft house in Dripping Springs. They completely replaced the ducts, blew in insulation, and basically redesigned air distribution (big bux!). There were immediate problems with some rooms freezing and some very hot. They sent a guy out to assess. We were told it was air distribution and was shown how to adjust the flow. There were no changes to the problem so we called again. This time we were told that we were going to be charged for a service call. After arguing with the co-owner, she agree this would be the last time for a free visit to fix. Only about a month had gone by to this point. Guy came the second time, readjusted air flow again, noticed some of the new ducts were ripped, and basically said good luck. We have lived with it for about a year thinking the new air distribution plan had flaws. Last week we had a HVAC company show up for unrelated issues. They went into the attic an immediately saw very clinched, pinched, and misrouted ducts (see pics). They fixed and all of a sudden the rooms that were hot for a year now are cool! They explained how the restrictions on the new ducts was preventing air flow - the very reason we hired Green Collar to begin with. Someone else fixing problems that Green Collar should have easily found and rectified even before "we are finished" stage. Bill Cook is good. After that, you are dealing with the same old don't care, let's get it done, we have their money attitude in this unregulated business. Best advice is get an estimate from Bill and then go elsewhere to get Bill's plan implemented.

The work (insulation & AC improvements) was performed Monday the 25th. You can see the immediate drop in usage.

Since McCullough's 2018 installation of our Carrier HVAC system we have kept their annual…read moremaintenance contract: includes two separate annual inspections for AC and heating. The few system repairs have been covered by the contract, including emergency service over summer weekends. The consistent excellent year round performance of our Carrier system has proven McCullough's annual maintenance fee to be a great value, with peace of mind. Most recently, Linel discovered rodent damage of our AC ducts. After exterminators resealed the house Ian was immediately sent by McCullough to repair the ducts reestablishing the sealed system. McCullough stands behind their warrantied installation, HVAC annual inspections and works effectively with other contractors. We strongly recommend McCullough's installation, maintenance contract, and reliable customer support.

Overall we spent ~15k for the unit and install. We haven't gone 30 days without a breakdown yet. Each time it got qc'd, we were told everything was fixed. So far issues have been : - Badly installed drainage leading to water damage - Debris in drain - Refrigerant leak from install - Blown electrical unit. Every root cause was from something done incorrectly during install. We have damaged and unrepaired siding from install, water damaged drywall and paint from the follow on issues. Inspite of these repeated issues from install and failures, each call out for no AC has been treated as if we were calling for the first time and the only proactive communication was for ensuring the city code inspector passed it.

Sorry for the long review...but please read on to hear my horror story with this sorry excuse of a company. I don't normally write reviews (good or bad), but my poor experience with this company cannot go unheard. I feel obligated to warn others of their frankly criminal business practices. I originally called them out to take a look at my old HVAC that was no longer producing cold air. They identified the Freon was low and filled it back up. Worked well for a bit, but then got low again...indicating their was a leak in the system. The unit was so old, we decided to replace the unit instead of fixing it. The new unit was installed, but not without issue. I chose what they described as their go-to brand - American Standard. Apparently their technicians do not know how to install their go-to brand, because it took several days and several different technicians to get the install completed. A year later, the unit began tripping the breaker any time it went to the 2nd stage. Took them 3 days to come out (when approaching triple digit temperatures), charged $150 service fee and $450 in parts and labor to add a capacitor to the setup (a $50 part and about 10 minutes of labor). Did not fix the problem. Tech came out again, and said it seemed to be an issue with the breaker and that I needed to call an electrician to diagnose and solve the problem. Ended up paying $300 for an electrician to come out. When he took a look at the install, he was flabbergasted. He could not believe what he was seeing! He identified the unit was installed on an aluminum electrical line, that was severely undersized for the unit installed. He said no respectable company would EVER do this kind of shotty work. He said replacing the electrical line would likely cost a couple thousand dollars, since it was on the other side of the house. When I called Smart Air to let them know of the situation, the dispatcher was very dismissive. She said she would have their lead install tech follow up with me, but of course I never heard anything back... That is when they went dark despite several additional attempts on my part, and broke communication with me entirely. I ended up having to pay an electrician to run the new line on my own dollar - several thousand dollars - and now I'm finally back up and running.
