My wife and I have been getting massages for a good 15 years together (routinely). Although that does not make me an expert, I do know a good massage place when I feel one. My wife and I are simple people with simple requests. A massage should be able to identify all the aches and pains and then be able to straighten out the kinks. Nobody has done anything of that nature till Green Island Massage fell on our laps. In 15 years of massages the guys at GIM in Keywest on Fleming St are the only staff that did us Justice. We walked in the owner (I'm sorry I didn't get your name kind sir) was just so genuinely kind and even gave us a ride back to our hotel after the massages. Saved us the uber. He asked to point on a diagram piece of for. Where our aches were and he had two of his staff concentrate on fixing the kinks. Better than Massage envy and blew out what we thought were some good ones in the past. Yep life is short and we feel blessed for people helping us work out and fix our kinks. I get a massage here about once a month. It's a bit pricey, but SO worth the money !! The massage staff are strong, friendly and very competent. I always leave feeling refreshed, relaxed and comfortable. I do need to work on my Chinese, however, as the staff speaks limited English. Doesn't affect the massage experience one bit ! Wow. Words can not describe how amazing my massage with May was. Without needing to tell her where to focus on, she knew where all my knots were. She worked on all my knots, the pressure was perfect, and the head massage she gave me instantly got rid of my headache. I loved the hand and feet massage (I feel like some places forget to do this) and the added hot stone massage was divine. I was so tight, they recommended I extend my 60 min massage to 90 minutes and I'm so glad I did. I may just have to see her one more time before I leave if I can fit in the time. After reading the reviews I booked an hour and a half massage so I would get a full body massage without being asked to add more time. However, nearing the end of my massage I was in fact asked if I wanted to add more time. I kindly replied, "No thank you." My massage therapist left the room and when she returned she left the door cracked. A few minutes later an Asian man opened the door and started yelling at her. I have no idea what was said, but he was obviously angry. She shoos him away and this same scene plays out TWO MORE TIMES!! I have had massages all over the world - from open air alley ways in Bali to high end day spas in Europe and NEVER have I experienced something so awkward & unprofessional. Otherwise they will just do your back for an hour and then ask if you want to add 30 min so they can do the front and that's an upcharge of course. Made an appointment to try this place out. What one has to keep in mind is that its an Asian massage not an american massage so different techniques. With an Asian massage one will get slapped/tapped at the end with cupped hands. Some can get carried away. Here they didnt. If you dont like that at the end of your massages DO NOT get an Asian massage. Another thing an Asian massage is more of long pressure strokes using a towel drapped over the body. American massages use sheets and small strokes and circular pressure (reguardless the type of massage ordered). One more thing an Asian massage will always pull (and /or wiggle) on your arms, wrists, fingers, legs, and feet. She even raised my legs up together and dropped them to the table a fee times. Not sure what all that does for the body. They did keep the door open by an inch even after i asked them to close the door for more of a privacy setting. Not sure as to why they leave the door open (some rooms had curtains), maybe its policy in case staff needs to communicate with each other. The person giving me a massage left after a minute of massage because she was being summoned. After 10 to 15 minutes into the massage she left again. I did love that she massaged my face and my head. Then she left for a 3rd time to get the hot stones. Over all good massage but not the best i ever had. read more
