Yes, the selection looks great here. I bought two showy milkweeds specifically to feed monarch caterpillars and asked this nursery if they treat with BT (considered an organic treatment that will kill caterpillars). They confirmed they didn't treat with BT and even had monarchs within a screened area on-site that were maturing. Literally the moment I fed a leaf of their milkweed to my 4 hungry growing monarch caterpillars, they all stopped eating and started being sluggish. The biggest caterpillar wouldn't eat through a leaf even though it was previously eating leaves from my yard down to the stem and left a weird brown residue on the leaf surface from this nursery's plant. Then it's next poop was red. All very odd and sad things to see since they were all so active and had huge appetites when I fed them the same species of showy milkweed from my yard. They've since all died, within ~3-4 days of feeding them milkweed from here. I don't know what they treated their milkweed with if not BT, but everything I've read online indicates these were classic signs of the guts breaking within the caterpillars from BT and killing them from the inside. So disappointed that I fed their plant to our monarchs. The one was probably a day away from chrysalis and was really big until it stopped eating. read more

Really nice nursery packed with plenty of lush plants. It's like an urban jungle in there. A nice green surprise tucked away. A very large and diverse collection. I was looking for a hard to find plant, a Mexican Shell flower (tigridia). The owner, Kevin, was very nice when I asked about them and he actually had quite a few. I thought the price was very reasonable too, $12 for a large one that had had at least 3 blooms this season. I bought one at Berkeley Horticulture a few years ago and it was $9 for one 25% the size of this one. I highly recommend this nursery. read more

I came in because my friends said they have great selection of veggies! I came I looking for the veggies. Then I wandered looking at soil and fertilizer. I spent a good 20 mins there and no one helped me. What I did notice that every white person who walked in was Immediately asked if they needed help. This is a cute little nursery! I've been here a few times, mainly to just look around at plants as they have only so much space for gardening supplies that I can find elsewhere. Being locally owned the prices are slightly pricey.. However, they do have a trendy selection of house plants which keeps me coming back! You have to really look around and see what may be hidden under a display table, I bought this Monstera Adansonii for $35! Definitely priced fairly compared to online websites. Mr Green Jeans Should Be Mean Jeans. I was thinking this could be "bad karma" and my friend insisted we go there a number of times. Having owned my own business, I really realize the Yelp Review can be a very Negative and bad karma kinda' thing; However, I feel they should know--the young lady that works behind the register there is more concerned about "her own delightful world" than helping customers. I have not found any answers to my garden questions. I don't see any interest in helping customers. I went back multiple times and the same story--she does not seem to care about customer service. At times even a bit rude I would say...... The prices seem inflated. Not such a good selection. Just not a fan. Sad. It is such a good location and I love to support local businesses. I go to Goodman's or Tam Junction. Sad this should be a bay area treasure as people report. I think Annie's in Pt Richmond is the best treasure. This needs to step up here in Mill Valley! read more

Accused of stealing plants!!! I had two employees help me. One helped me with what I was looking for and another employee rang me up and helped carry the plants to my car. When I was loading the plants into the car, the young woman who worked there came over and said "You need to pay for these!" Funny as when I was looking for help, she ignored me. Her co worker was standing right there, who she ignored. No apology. I don't question her attempt at ensuring the plants were paid for, but could have been handled much better. Asking her co-worker if they had been rung up, or even better volunteering to help ring them up. Instead of assuming I was loading unpaid merchandise into my car. They have warm and knowledgeable staff (OK, Green Jeans people may be warmer). Very good variety of heirloom tomatoes. For container veggie gardeners, GJ offers dolomite by the pound! No need to buy a 50-pound bag from big box stores. Conveniently located off of Highway 101 in Mill Valley, close to Strawberry Shopping Center. read more

What to plant? When & how? These are gardening questions I often ask & Green Jeans has all of the answers as well as supplies. You've driven by this place a million times on 101. They've got a gigantic praying mantis on their rooftop & other cool art bugs scattered about. What I really love is that they're open 7 days a week. That's hard to find in Marin. I also love that I can just walk through their grounds/garden for inspiration when I know I need to garden, but just don't know what I want to dirty my hands. I'm a fan of Sloats, too, for their neverending pottery selection, but Green Jeans has carniverous plants & other great items that you just can't get anywhere. After browsing for a few minutes we ran into a gentleman named Kevin who proved to have a wealth of knowledge. On top of that he was damn friendly. We were shown multiple varieties of trees and he answered all of our questions. The best part? There was no pressure for the sale to be completed. Half an hour later we walked out with a gorgeous meyer lemon tree, a few herbs, a couple of cacti and some fertilizer. Really fantastic nursery located right near the Strawberry shopping center which means easy on / easy off the freeway - however that also means its very loud from freeway noise when you are there so it's a bit hard to hear yourself think. Top quality plants, I'd say far superior to Sloat. Helpful staff. Michael in particular really helped me. I saw someone at the cash register help a Little Olde Lady out her car with grace and kindness and that's a big plus in my book. Parking is a breeze on the street. When we came in with our long list of plants we wanted we had the best experience we have ever had in a plant nursery, thanks to Jessica. She is extremely knowledgeable, was familiar with all of the plants we wanted, and had all but 1 of the 12 kinds we wanted, unlike any other nursery in Marin. Plus she found them quickly, made helpful suggestions about them, added up the prices, and personally gathered them together for us. Their organic, mostly native mix of plants increase the chances they will thrive in our Sausalito garden. With the help of a co-worker, they helped us carefully put them in our SUV. From past visits and others' (more adept gardeners than we are) recommendations we know the quality of the plants is high. To top it off, the whole setting at Green Jeans Garden Supply is lovely. The four other sets of customers were all return customers too, it turned out, from our brief conversations with them. And it feels good to support a locally owned nursery. I have a black thumb, but decided to try some house plants. Staff was extremely helpful and patient while answering all my questions about the basics of caring for plants. He did not make me feel stupid, which I really appreciate. The staff was happy, friendly, and seemed to really like their job and want to share their knowledge. I would definitely go back here because of their amazing customer service. It's not exactly where our TomTom device said it would be. There's no parking lot, but you can just park on the street right in front. You can also park in the Strawberry Shopping Center, but it's a short walk, which may not be fun if you are carrying a large/heavy plant. We didn't shop around, so I don't know how the prices compare. read more

They also had some of the stuff in bulk so I only had to buy what I needed. Most of this stuff was the latests and greatest in organic farming. The two employees I spoke with were rude about my questions. Perhaps they are more used to professional gardeners than people starting out. I might have overlooked the rudeness if they hadn't screwed up by miscounting my plants and overcharging me as well as selling me a sprayer for insecticidal soap that is incompatible with soap solutions. Given that I was buying insecticidal soap at that time and that I asked for a sprayer that would work with the soap, I'm more than a little disappointed. I'll stick with Sloats where people have always been friendly and helpful. Also Annie's Annuals in Richmond has a helpful staff. I don't see any reason to go back to this place. read more
