Clovis Anderson fitting my bike
Anne B.

This is a review for the 2D bike-fitting service done by Clovis Anderson, top-ten veteran of the 1988 Seoul Olympics Brazilian cycling team and certified sports medicine specialist. I recently brought in my daughter's road bike to see if it could be adapted to me, 68 yrs old, trying to get back in the game so I could ride with my husband, who just retired and has been doing 20-40-mile distance rides on his own for years. Clovis has every piece of equipment to measure and explain the proper fit for every aspect of bike efficiency/rider comfort and was able to show me that even with stem risers and other adjustments my daughter's bike would never work for me. He then showed us a half-price electric-assist bike, which turned out to be what I needed to keep up with my husband. He then offered a female-friendly saddle, and an ergonomic handle bar and grips suited to my scoliosis and arthritic hands. In short, he took all of my "special needs" into consideration and gave me just the special fit I needed. I can't say enough about about the care, personal attention and specialized technical knowledge that Clovis brought to my fitting that has resulted in a bike that makes it a true pleasure for me to ride, after ten years, with my husband. Thank you Clovis!

I visited Green Lizard Cycling one Sunday to come in and try and find some cycling shoes that fit my ridiculously wide feet and that work with a Peloton bike. Several of my friends had recommended, nay, raved about Green Lizard Cycling. I called ahead - they advised they do carry such shoes - and that I should come in and get measured and try some shoes on. I asked if staff would all be wearing facemasks - I was advised that yes they would be. When I arrived - I walked in and found the appropriate staff to work with. The gentleman I worked with measured my feet, and had me try on a couple of existing shoes. Ultimately, they did not have my size, but have ordered a pair in my size for me to try on. Unfortunately, the shoes will not arrive until some time in October. I was disappointed to find that - a number of the staff was not wearing facemasks (I was). The person who helped me started off with a mask on, but was not wearing it during the measuring my feet part of the visit - and a couple of the other guys working in the back - also were not wearing facemasks - which made me a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully the ordered shoes will fit and will arrive in the October time frame! #GreenLizardCycling

Borrowed bikes tuned up by Sam. Ready for Ironman Maryland 140.6.

Great help getting 2 bikes ready for a 140.6 triathlon - Sam was helpful and a problem solver. Liked the ready availability of Garmin cleats, Lazer helmets. Plus he could adjust seat levels, put on new tires, attach tool pouches, repack front and rear wheel hub bearings. Labor charges were extremely reasonable and part prices not jacked up ($69 helmet, $3.50 CO2 cartridges, $25 for Garmin cleats). Borrowing 2 VA bikes from my brother. Also liked the tea and coffee options. Got a London Fog after discussing options with Erin. Also got some nice muffins. Thankfully, bike service was done with a smile as we waited. Sorry to say borrowed bikes can be tricky. Sam is good at spotting issues and fixing what might matter.

Stop to meet a friend here, thought I'd try a smoothie while waiting. Several fruit flavors to choose from over the honey banana base. I went with mango and it was great! Cute little coffee shop inside a Bike Shop. Friendly staff, plenty of outdoor seating.

It's been a year since my last visit and this place is still as terrific as my initial review. Delicious coffee, smattering of snacks, tons of bicyclists coming in and out or stopping to take a snack break. These guys are doing it right!

If you are shopping for a high end bike, make Green Lizard your first and likely your last store to visit. The best first step is to have Clovis find the right fit for your new bike based on how you sit on your existing bike. He was able to show me, based on videos he takes, how I would fit and feel on various types of bike frames including an endurance and climbing style of bike. Once you pick out the bike, it is built for your specifications by their professional and experienced service department. You will find more brands and styles of high end bikes at the Green Lizard than any other bike shop in the area. Green Lizard is the heart of the local and cycling community. In addition the owners, Dave and Beth, give back to those in need through their charitable non profit.

I'd been on a plane all day. I hadn't had any breakfast. Or any lunch for that matter. I was hungry and a little sore and in need of some liquid enthusiasm. The coffee was delicious. It was really very good. But it was sooo little. I felt like I was in a Vietnamese place with tiny, Vietnamese style portions. I could have drunk my large iced coffee in two long draws. I tried to take it slow and linger on the flavor but I couldn't help wishing they offered a larger size.

Worn disc brake pads

I really want to like this place. Best hours of the bike shops around. However, I took my bikes in for tuneups and when I got it back I complained that the braking was spongy. They said all their disc brakes are like this. I went home, figured out online what I needed, bought new pads and a hydraulic fluid bleed kit. Inspecting the pads showed wear to the metal. I found air bubbles in the fluid causing the sponginess. I had to fix this all myself because they were gaslighting me into thinking it was all in my head. Sorry, this is terrible service.

I have been to a bunch of local bike shops in the area, and this is hands down the best local bike shop in Nova! They are very professional, knowledgeable, and always greet me with a smile :) I just had my professional bike fit with Clovis. He is amazing as are the rest of the service/repair team. Ive been riding a lot since April and had continued foot pain, he made some adjustments and I just did my personal best of 75 miles with no pain! Thanks for the wonderful customer service, you have earned my trust and business for all of my families biking needs.

Picking up my new Topstone 105
Gabriel R.

Green Lizard is what all local bike stores should feel like - - unpretentious and welcoming. I had an amazing experience buying my new 2019 Cannondale Topstone 105. The whole team, including Bernard, Clovis and Dave, is first class. I highly recommend Green Lizard for anyone looking to buy or service a bike. I was so impressed by Clovis's fitting that my wife is going to take her bike to get fitted as well. On a side note, the coffee was amazing, this is the icing on the cake when bike shopping!

I am not sure if there is a single Yelp entry for the system, Capital Bikeshare. I write to explain…read moremy experience. It is positive to date. I recommend this. The background. I am in my late 50s. I do not live in Washington, D.C. My elderly father does though. So I am in and out all the time, checking up on him (he still lives on his own). I am experienced riding a bicycle in the city. I have owned an e bike (it stopped working, the Van Moof; I loved it when it ran, but build quality was an issue). I also rented regularly in San Francisco when I lived there, and do so intermittently in New York City where I reside now. I have had good experiences and bad, including an issue where part of a bike belonging to the defunct Uber system fell out in an intersection, and the customer service agent told me I was lucky I didn't die and offered me a $2 refund, which I thought was rather rude, prompting me to interact with the General Counsel's office to no avail -- moral of the story is you won't get much by complaining, even if you are in the right and quite polite. All told, I am confident I have taken at least three dozen rides, maybe four dozen rides, with at least three other companies, in two major metropolitan areas besides DC. I also support mass transit and alternative transit. I regularly ride the bus, and I am irked by people who assume I would not do that, because they are projecting their sense of privilege (it is apparent from their disdain they would not ride the bus) on me. I also run commute as much as I can, and I previously did that on a regular basis (three days a week, 4.5 miles, just one way; then MUNI back). That is not to brag about virtue. Don't trust anybody who touts their own morality. In any event, Capital Bikeshare seems to have worked out the problems with this service. They have lots of bikes. That have lots of locations (including one about a quarter mile from where we stay and another on the side of the train station where I need to go). They have an acceptable number of e bikes in the fleet. The maintenance is much better than pre-pandemic with their rivals. (I am opposed to the dockless networks. Those result in the inevitable problem of bikes scattered willy nilly on sidewalks and where they pose a hazard.) The annual fee is reasonable. I am planning three trips in the next two weeks, early in the morning before Metro starts running, to Union Station. If I do as I intend, the amount saved over a motor vehicle ride share will offset the cost. I figure at 4am, the traffic will not be a great hazard (though the drivers out will include a disproportionate number of people who, given the late/early hour, probably pose a risk).

Once I get the chance to experience the full monty, so to speak, I will most likely have a higher rating. From what i have seen, these bikes get used nearly every day. The location of the store was perfect for our group as a connector bike path was directly in front the store and only a block from the W&OD trail. Picking up the bikes about 11:00 am and returning around 4:30 (just under 6 hours) gave us the flexibility we needed. We only had one suggestion to remember to inform us that the bikes needed to be reset with a button under the back taillight to turn the power on again after being idle during our lunch hour. However, a quick call to the store quickly fixed this and we were back on our way, no problems.

Immediate Attention Required - Customer Treatment at Fairfax Location…read more I'm reaching out to bring a serious issue to your attention regarding your Fairfax location. I recently visited the store at the start of the spring season--typically a great time for cycling and community engagement. My intent was simple: get air in my bike tires. My initial interaction with a staff member was excellent--welcoming, helpful, and exactly what you'd expect from a community-focused business. That experience changed completely when your service manager became involved. The interaction quickly escalated into behavior that was demeaning, hostile, and completely unprofessional. I was spoken to in a way that was both disrespectful and humiliating--something I can honestly say I have never experienced in my 64 years. More concerning, I was told I was not welcome in the store. Let me be direct: that is not a customer service issue--that is a leadership issue. This individual represents your brand in the local community, and based on this interaction, does so in the worst possible way. Behavior like this doesn't just impact one customer--it erodes trust, damages your reputation, and pushes business away from what should be a community anchor. I also want to highlight the contrast: your frontline employee created a positive, welcoming experience. That tells me the culture at the ground level has potential--but it is being undermined by management behavior that is completely out of alignment. I am asking for two things: A review of this incident and the conduct of the service manager Clear confirmation of how you intend to address this moving forward I would strongly encourage you to take this seriously. Experiences like this don't stay isolated--they get shared, and they influence where people choose to spend their money. I look forward to your response. --Mark E
