The food was so old. They need to check the expiration dates before cooking. I got food poisoning.

I needed dinner somewhere near Franklin Field before a Milwaukee Milkmen game (if you haven't been to one yet, what are you waiting for?) and Green Tea Garden Chinese fit the bill. My order consisted of chicken wor mein and two meat egg rolls. The egg rolls were very good. Clearly homemade and with large chunks of pork and chicken. I'd definitely get these again. The menu said the wor mein was like lo mein "but in a light sauce". Since they compared it to lo mein, I assumed that meant something similar to your typical, run of the mill lo mein that the vast majority of Chinese restaurants serve. Instead, it had a gravy like sauce rather than one soy based. The pieces of chicken and veggies were huge, but the chicken was unseasoned and not marinated, so just plain chicken. I don't like water chestnuts or mushrooms either, let alone in my lo mein. I could see the wor mein appealing to some, but I wasn't a fan and ended up not eating most of the large container. I tried to go inside to order, but I was met with a locked door. Apparently, due to "staffing issues", they only accept call in or online orders and do curbside pickup. One of the employees was nice enough to come out and take my order, but I had to wait in my car and drive up for it when it was ready. Certainly not the most convenient process and I don't understand how standing around in a lobby is so hard with staffing issues if they don't need to wait on you at a table. You'd think it would be more helpful if they don't have to constantly run food outside. Whatever. read more

I have been wanting some Chinese food for weeks now but I just ended up doing other places so today my lunch was going to be Chinese food. As in a lot of my reviews I comment on empty Asian places and this was one of them again where I'm the only one in the place so it's take out because I just don't like eating in an empty restaurant. The restaurant has the Asian red theme going and a nice little bar to sit at while you wait for take out. The menu has no combination plates except the lunch specials and I was too late for that. As I looked over the menu with nothing in mind I thought the pork egg fu young really sounds good so that's what I got. The pork egg fu Young was three patties in a thick brown gravy with white rice. The pork egg fu young had plenty of pork, pork in every bite which I liked and nice size patties. The thick brown gravy was ok and worked well on the pork egg fu young which hit the spot. I thought the pork egg fu Young was better than average and generous in size and the amount of pork so I would definitely stop back and try more of the menu. read more

The food is always delicious! Very flavorful. Very tasty. Generous portion sizes. By far the best Chinese food around. Consistent quality, actually very high quality. Fried beef tenderloin is out of this world. Same goes for chicken and broccoli. The fried rice is amazing. This is our favorite place for Chinese food-consistent experience and food every time. No dine-in - just pick-up. Most times our order is ready in 10-15 minutes! The egg foo young consists of 3 large and delicious patties in gravy. The fried rice is tasty and plentiful. We treat ourselves to egg rolls once in a while too--nice and crunchy, large and flavorful. And we definitely get multiple meals out of our order. An average Chinese place. Overall the portion sizes are huge! Egg rolls are not too exciting flavor wise but ok. I like the egg foo young here. The meat quality is really poor, in my opinion. I only like fresh meat that's trimmed right. It's pretty unpalatable to me and I ended up picking a bunch of it out of my meal. The pad Thai is not my particular style, too sweet for me. Also the noodles were thick instead of thin, as they are with traditional pad Thai, that confused me a bit. Why in the world they dump iceberg lettuce all over the plates makes zero sense. How is that Chinese? For garnish, something way more colorful could be used. It gets in the way of the food, too. The staff is very sweet though and the place often has plenty of available seating! Its been awhile since i have eaten here, but seeing the low ratings i felt the need to speak up. If you like high quality, homemade asian food, this is the place for you. If you like the mass produced low quality food from the #1 Chinese Restaurants, you may not appriciate finer restaurants like this. Pad Thai is to die for. I dream of it and wake up drooling. Pot stickers are huge, crunchy, and full of great meaty filling. The sauce that accompanies it somehow makes them even better. I do take one star off as i do not like very spicy food. They seem to have a hard time accomodating my mild requests; sometimes after a few bites im sweating and my mouth is on fire! Yet i cant stop eating because it is still so delicious. read more

We picked this place to celebrate my sister's birthday. Called a few days ahead to make sure some of our favorite dishes were available. Seafood soup. Tasty blend of real seafood with your normal egg whites. Not too thick or thin just right. Shrimp fried rice was delicious! Juicy but not greasy. We get this every time we stop in, tonight was no different. Beef with Chinese broccoli. Try it, you might find you like it better than a regular broccoli beef dish. Peapod leaves in garlic sauce... Gotta get the greens!! Salt & pepper squid. Some prefer the combo with other seafood, we like squid, so this is another staple for the family. It's cooked very well here. Not overcooked tonight with just enough seasoning light and flavorful Steamed sole fish with ginger. I'm beginning to think I like a lower quality fish. The fish was huge and good. I might just be secretly I love with tilapia or sea bass. Those are also easier on the wallet, but tonight's fish was solid. See pic it was hanging off their biggest plate! Dungeness crab X2 prepared in their 'golden garlic' dry seasoning. This is the dish that brought us in. Very few places prepare crab this way and its the birthday girl's favorite. She ate a whole crab by herself! Enough said Lobster w/ ginger n garlic sauce I didn't have any tonight so that other lobster lovers could have a little more. Clams in black bean sauce. Yummmm Panko crusted beef tenderloin & scallops w/ veggies. 2 new dishes for the family to try tonight. Not sure if they'll be added to the rotation above but they were decent All in all it was a great meal we even got to cut our cake and have that for dessert in the restaurant. If your in the area and want to have some Chinese not from a mall, eat here. The place is a wonderful family business. Negative stars would be the best option for this "business". We brought our takeout meal home, and one of our main dishes was the General Tso chicken. Asked for the the spice to be medium (mild is low heat & hot is the spiciest). Our family literally got instantly nauseous and suffered from burns in their mouths and throats. After we got our physical barings, (over chicken hotness!), we called the restaurant and explained what we experienced. The female manager was defensive, invalidating and Sid she didn't care if we don't come back. Asked for even just a refund for the one entree (not the whole order) and she was adamant that she wouldn't ever return payment for any reason. We are loyal and conscious consumers who love to support small local businesses but we do plan on continuing this concern and complaint to ensure other families are not harmed or disrespected. If I could combine at a single restaurant the entrees from Green Tea Garden with the apps at Asian Delight (Franklin), I'd be in Chinese take-out Heaven! That's not to say the apps at GTG are bad, but they pale in comparison. Crab Rangoon = dry and too fishy tasting. Egg rolls = gigantic, but mostly filled with cabbage. However, the entrees save GTG from two stars. Yummy General Tso's Chicken that's not too spicy, and tasty chicken and broccoli. A must order is a side of pan fried noodles! Omg, butter and carb joy in a box! I've only eaten in once and I'll stick with tried and true delivery from now on. The one time I ate there, the food was awful and the Egg Foo Young inedible. I have no clue why the take out always tastes so good, but I'll put up with the delivery fee and stop asking questions. read more

I have been going to Green Tea garden for over 10 years and they have never disappointed me! As a matter of fact the food closely reminds me of the authentic Chinese food I was raised on in Hawaii. Large Won Ton in the soup! Super delicious Kung Pao Chicken. (No gross Grisly chicken here) my kids grew up eating Beef Broccoli here and even though they live in other cities and states still rave about Green Tea! We just can't find anything like it and will always support this hard working family owned business. read more

My wife and I had a "dine-in" experience and were surprised to find that "dinners" are ala carte. No soup, no egg roll with the meal. You do get rice. Even more surprising is the fact that they charge extra if you want to spice up your meal. The price of the meal appears reasonable until you take into account that everything is extra. On the plus side, the service was pleasant and the food was good. They appear to do a good carry-out business but the dining room was pretty empty (3 of 22 tables had customers). We are undecided as to whether we will return. read more

Service is always great. Old fashioned sit down Chinese restaurant. When you come here to dine in prepare to relax. They are not slow but they are not fast either. They do lots of takeout but I prefer to dine in. I love their pork egg rolls. So far I've enjoyed everything I have ordered. No complaints. read more

I frequently get takeout from this place, and it's fantastic. Their egg rolls are flavorful and delicious, and their crab rangoon some of the best I've had. Fried rice is good, as well. 4 stars because of high delivery fee (something like $3-4) and the fact that they didn't include chopsticks when I asked for them. Went with a group of friends who had all been there before. It was my first visit. Clean place, which is crucial. Some ripped up seat cushions but the had covers over them. HUGE menu with things I hadn't seen in a long time. Pressed duck? I'm in. And I'm glad I ordered it. Rich brown gravy, lots of veggies with a humongous portion. Enough to eat three times. Went here on Christmas eve around 5:00pm. Waited and waited.....and waited... for a table (felt like a Seinfeld episode). there were only 4-5 tables being used. Had dinner there last night....Shrimp Sub Gum was tasteless and bland . There was enough shrimp, but way too much celery and not too much else. My friend ordered Shrimp with Cashews and got the exact same dish I got except had some cashews sprinkled on top. I miss the days when egg roll and soup and tea was part of the meal. read more

After 3 years of being a loyal customer, tonight they told me to not come back after I complained about having no delivery. I called at 7:30 to ask if they had delivery for a party I was having, they said yes. I called back at 8 and they said "no delivery" because their driver left. The reason they left is because they have absolutely NO business. I had to go pick up the large order and there wasn't a single customer in the restaurant. I told them I've had to order elsewhere in the past 3 years because of sporadic delivery service. They ignored me, knowing I had to drive there and pick up the order, and just told me the total. As I was walking out, I paused at the door and heard them saying negative things about me. I know a bit of Chinese as I travel internationally. I held my breath and walked to my car and could see them inside still taking about me and pointing at me as I got in my car. When I got home, the order was incorrect and barely warm. I called back and said I was just in there and they called me by name. .. I told them how important a delivery person would be on the weekend and they HUNG UP ON ME, after I just gave them my money. I called back and asked to speak to the owner, she said she was the owner. I asked if this is how they treat a 3 year customer and they said we will never serve you again. Then hung up again saying they were closed...it was 8:30pm... They close at 9pm. So after 3 years of giving them my money and telling others how great they are, the OWNER hung up on me and told me they would not serve me again. Just wanted to share this with everyone. I am so disappointed in Green Tea Garden because the food has been good over the years but I will never eat there again. I encourage anyone else who has had a similar experience to post and review as well. read more

If I could give this restaurant a 0 I would. The I ordered General Tao's chicken and crab Rangoon. The General Tao's tasted nothing like what it should have, had very little flavor in fact, and I've eaten this for years. It was also greasy. The fried rice was ok. The crab Rangoon was hollow, there was one tiny little dried up blob of cheese that you could hear rattle around inside. It was inedible. I called the restaurant to tell them about it and she was completely rude. She said "I don't know where you've been eating your General Tao's chicken, but that's the way that we make it"! She argued with me. As for the crab Rangoon, she said "that's the way we make it!" unbelievable. Don't go here! I has to show you a picture of the crab Rangoon. All I can say is WOW, how are they open?! I'm considering calling the health department. After reading other reviews of this restaurant, I'm praying that I don't get sick from the little bit that I ate. read more

Love it! This restaurant has the best Chinese Food..especially their egg rolls. They have such large egg rolls. You can just buy a couple and take them as your lunch to work- they're so easy. Though it's not always the busiest inside, this is a nice place to take a group of people since they offer quite a few large, round tables. (Seriously, I think I saw a whole cheer leading squad in here when I dropped in one day.) They also have a small stage..seems like it would be nice for hosting intimate events. We usually do takeout and everyone is always very nice and ordering is so easy. The owner is very personable and you can tell this is a family run business. This place is kind of tucked away in a small strip mall so took us a couple of years before we really noticed it, but we were definitely glad we found it. Great restaurant. read more

Never eaten here but was told they have wonderful food. I was told that they do delivery and seeing that I'm 1.6 miles from the restaurant - thought I'd call to place an order. After speaking with the woman who answered the phone, I asked to place an order and that I would like it delivered. She said that they didn't deliver at all to Greendale, whose border is only one block away from their establishment. After explaining my location in detail, she just said 'we no deliver'. A shame. Guess Ill have to go in for carry out when going to the hardware store a few doors down from them in the strip mall. read more

This wonderful restaurant must be one of the best Chinese places in Milwaukee. We drove 40 min to get here and will do it again. Our family shared orange chicken, seafood chow mein, broccoli and shrimp and pad Thai. The seasoning and sauces make all the dishes spectacular. Everything tastes very fresh. My family and I have been going here for years and we have finally said NO MORE! We have let many things go over the years and the first time we say something that the meal is not fresh.... "that's how it comes" is the response! They can't admit when there is a mistake with the order or if something is not tasting right with the dish (not being fresh). The meal was sent back and we were still charged for the entire meal!!! We will not go back! Poor customer service!!! They just lost an entire family with many generations that order from there....and for what... $10? LOL read more

We have eaten at many different Chinese take out restaurants and honestly Green Tea Garden has the best traditional flavors on all of their dishes/recipes and are second to none hands down. We have been regular customers for many years and super happy that they are in Franklin near by but would gladly travel for it as well. Ordered Chicken Low mein & Crab ragoons. When I got home, the bag was completed disintegrated by grease. when I opened the chicken, it was ramon noodles. I went back to get a refund or better yet, have them make me the right order. The woman blamed me for not ordering the Pan noodles...... How would i know that. most Chinese restaurants call it Lo mein. she would not refund or remake the food. she said she wouldn't want to lose any money! Have never ordered the same item twice as the menu is quite extensive. Friends of ours introduced us to this quaint restaurant, and we in turn have brought many other friends here as well. Love the food. Service is decent. Do not expect fine dining, this is quite casual. The family may be sitting nearby passing time. The food is always fresh and very good. Egg rolls are my favorite from here as is the pressed duck. We can't not order the duck, it is a go to dish for us. Theirs is crisp and flavorful and served with a nice selection of vegetables in a brown sauce. The beef tenderloin in black pepper is delicious as is the tofu and eggplant. We also enjoy the lunch specials. Mongolian beef is sweet and rich with lots of beef and onions and never wild gamey or off tasting as we have experienced with some other places. They seem to do a good carryout business but the restaurant itself is often fairly empty. This is the best we have found on the south side. read more

Worst experience I've had with delivery food. Driver was extremely rude and his response when I brought this to his attention was if you don't like it don't order from here again. 15 minutes after the food was delivered I finally see him leaving he was outside my door listening to my conversation. Pretty strange to say the least. Needless to say I will not be spending another penny there after the $48 I spent tonight. This service was horrible. I was charged extra for onions and did not get extra onions. When I brought this to the owner's attention instead of trying to fix the situation she got disrespectful and hung up on me. When I called back she refused to acknowledge the situation and I told her that I would be writing a negative review and I wasn't even looking for anything in return and she refused to admit that the order was done wrong and told me "I don't have to order from her anymore" and hung up on me again. I was not rude or disrespectful at all during my call however, treating customers like that especially hanging up on them twice is not ok. If I could give a zero rating I would both for customer service and food quality. read more
