Kale Yeah Bowl
Harmonie T.

It's been a looooong time since I've had The Green Truck so I was super excited to spot them in Long Beach's version of Ciclovía, dubbed Beach Streets. Oh gosh...I just looked at my last review for The Green Truck. Has it really been 5 years since I've had their delicious vegan burger??? Believe me, I've tried to track them down since then but I'm not very good at chasing food trucks. As tempting as it was to order the vegan burger again, I recently opted for the Kale Yeah Bowl. I mean, the name itself is just awesome! The portion of massaged kale, raw mushrooms, quinoa, shredded beets and shredded carrots was way more than I could eat in one serving. While the fresh veggies were tasty on its own, the creamy goddess dressing just made it addicting. It's the kind of dressing that makes you shamelessly wanna lick the inside of the bowl. It's that good! But I also appreciate that it wasn't swimming in dressing. It was just the right amount! http://bit.ly/1IHTkPJ One last thing that super impressed me was how quickly my order arrived. When the container appeared in the window, I thought it belonged to the person next to me. Nope...they were trying to hand it to me. Whoa, they just handed me my change. They're handing me my order too? ...awww Kale Yeah! ;D

There are a ton of food trucks just off Ocean Park in Santa Monica on any given workday. I've eaten at a handful, but generally avoid them as they really aren't the healthiest lunch options. Then along comes Green Truck touting buzzwords like organic, local farmers, planet healing, etc., so I figured why not give it a go? I had the kale yeah salad with, you guessed it, kale! Also thrown in were slow roasted beets, ribbons of carrot in a cilantro lime dressing. For added protein, I had them throw a chicken breast on top. It was good, not great and I admit I felt good eating something lighter for lunch. $11 for an average portion and $3 for some pineapple drink potion is usually more than I like to spend on a workday lunch, so a little spendy, but what the hell. Obviously something I can make myself for a lot less and get the same result. There was nothing spectacular in the creation of any of the few dishes offered that I saw. Had a taste of a friends sweet potato fries and they were just okay. I don't think I would make any sort of effort to revisit, but it was okay for what it was.

Yes!! Paleo bowl is killer with buffalo meat, kale, eggs, bacon kale salsa! I was just happy to see a paleo item I did not have to customize but after eating one bite I was turned. I almost contemplated getting another 2 bites in but it was huge!! The chef/owner at the clean festival was so nice and fast but most of all perfect cook! I can't rave enough about this dish!

This use to be one of my favorite spots solely for the vegan "Mother Trucker" way back when they had a truck stop on the Fox Hills Mall lot. I think business was new back then, and they took amazing pride in the quality of the food they served. It was healthy, affordable, convenient, and I loved it. I stopped going to the truck when they moved from that location because they became increasingly difficult to find, and never answered their phone. However, I never forgot the delicious Mother Trucker. I recently decided to try and locate the truck and it proved to be a serious wild goose chase. First of all, the mobile website is a dysfunctional mess filled with technical glitches. As always, they did not answer the phone when I called several times. The only positive address location was the headquarters in Culver City, so I drove over there. A nice man, possibly an owner was outside talking to someone, so I flagged him down and told him the situation of how difficult it is to locate the truck and that the website was not functioning properly. He told me to wait, and that a truck would be pulling up soon. In the meantime he said my order was on the house, which I appreciated. However, I was sorely disappointed in the once loved Mother Trucker. It was cold, dry, and uneventful. I asked the guys driving the truck for sweet potato fries when they arrived on the lot, but instead got these hard, overly fried sweet potato chips. I know they were cooked in quite a bit of oil, because too much oil in food makes me sick and nauseous, so I was never able to finish them. This was definitely an order meant to be on the house. Furthermore, it was not cool having to do a food exchange in the parking lot of a warehouse building simply because the truck is impossible to locate during it's actual operating hours. Not sure why the drastic decline with The Green Truck, but it would be nice if the owners would resume the care and passion they use to put into this business as it would be nice to check in and enjoy the delicious, healthy food and quality service they USE to provide.

#1300!! :) Here's a little factoid or 3 about me. I eat animals and I enjoy it (sorry vegans and veggies, but I do) I don't recycle (sorry Mom, but hey more plastic bottles for you to steal from my house when I'm not looking) I think pennies are the enemy (sorry, I do and I don't generally save them for rainy days since It never rains in Southern California, or so says the song) With those admissions out there and on the table, you can probably deduce that I am not the most environmentally conscious, green loving kinda girl, BUT all of that may have changed after this weekend when I had the absolute pleasure of getting to know the hard working souls behind the Green Truck "Organic Gourmet On The Go!" There I was at Tarfest passing out sunscreens, populating the masses with Yelp fans and over yonder (who says yonder?), I spotted this rad looking green food truck. This was no roach coach. This was no taco truck either. This was a mean, green, get your life on a healthier track machine and I had to go and investigate! But to be on the safe side, I sent over a fellow yelper to assess the sitch first. Hey, I was busy! So fellow yelper comes running back and says, "Duuuuuude, Arthur's over there!!!" "Who?" "Arthur, that awesome waiter dude we had at Duke's!!!" "No way!" "Way!" "NO WAY!" "Yes, WAY!" Wait, I think I am accidentally reenacting a scene from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure now, whoopsie, anyhoo, Arthur was this awesome waiter that my friend and I had at Duke's in Malibu one Sunday afternoon and he stood out. Stood out is actually an understatement, he MADE our good time at Duke's and I will tell you right now, Arthur is probably one of the most down to Earth and awesomely positive people you will ever meet! He rocks!! In fact, if I could just put him in my pocket and keep him there, my life would be better for it :) So imagine my surprise when my field spy came back and reported that Arthur was a part of this intriguing green truck. I had to then go over. Upon walking up, I was greeted with a HUGE bear hug from Arthur (see, I told you, this guy is cool beans!) he then told me all about the truck and that they were on a mission to bring healthy gourmet food to the world, while also doing their part to save the environment. Rad! I then looked at the stuff they were selling and I will tell you right now, I didn't recognize anything, but it all looked yums. Kinda like when you walk through the aisles of Whole Foods and think, "Huh? What the hell is a flax-seed oil blueberry rhubarb juice box, Eh, eff it, I'll try it" Yeah, it was kinda like that! Then there's the food. It is delicious! And their menu is awesome. Sammiches with options like Clover sprouts, red bliss potatoes, white bean garlic spread and even an Eco fish low -mercury sashimi grade tuna!! What?! How rad it that!! We tried the grilled cheese and it was really tasty and the field spy tried a green grilled chicken wrap of some sort that looked amazing. The best part is that they have free delivery, it's all organic, it's all made fresh to order and you can arrange for them to come to where you are with a simple phone call. Seriously, try these guys and gals out. They are all on a mission to do good in the world, while still filling up our tummies with amazingly tasty and satisfying food. Stephy likin the green, who the hell woulda thunk it!? :) Use em!! www.greentruckonthego.com

The menu clearly states $4.00 to add protein.

The $10.00 Super Food Salad I had today at the Summer Nights in the Garden was good. I added chicken to it for an additional $5.00 even though their menu CLEARLY stated $4.00 to add protein. I am BIG on customer service and didn't appreciate it when the male cashier was rude to me, when I corrected him. He replied, "Well it's $5.00 to add it, do u want it or not? That is no way to reply to a customer. I know a dollar is no big deal, but its the PRINCIPLE! That is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! Rule #1 NEVER be rude to a customer! That is what gave u a one Star! I sure hope his boss reads this.

Superfood bowl

Superfood bowl is so yummy and satisfying and you can feel good about eating clean! It's a big portion of greens, black beans, quinoa, goji berries, avocado and cashew dressing. Goji berries are a nice touch, they add a contrasting texture to the otherwise consistent more mushy texture. The cashew dressing is suuuper creamy and tastes like there's a bit of soy sauce flavor in it? Really good. Love that they gave me like an entire avocado that was perfectly ripe. The guy taking orders was also super sweet and helpful about answering questions.

The truck runs on vegetable oil and solar power, plus its utensils and packaging are either recyclable or compostable. The food is made from organic ingredients sourced locally. Basically this truck was right at home at the Eat Real Festival in LA. I had a CHEESEBURGER and a WATERMELON FRESCA. The cheeseburger was good, though made more well-done than I requested. A good sized burger with a thick patty too for $5. The fresca was refreshing and sweetened with agave, but not as good as others I've had.

Green Truck: Chipotle burger

A solar-powered cooking oil-fueled all organic eco-friendly food truck? It's rumored that Captain Planet funded this food truck. Their chipotle burgers aren't too pretty to look at, but they contain healthy and fresh lettuce and tomatoes. The patties come off as a bit dry, which is a shame because the quality of beef they use is pretty good. Their meat is actually a bit TOO lean for our hero's tastes -- a burger's gotta have some fat in it to have a juicy consistency and top notch taste. The concept of the truck is great and our hero loves it, but the lunches leave our hero and his friends still feeling hungry after finishing, despite dropping $8 on just a burger itself. PROS: - All organic menu with lots of vegan options. - The most eco-friendly food truck ever! CONS: - The menu's on the pricey side, with most mains coming in at seven or eight dollars and not leaving you feeling full afterward. - Burger patties are a bit overcooked.

I had no idea how delicious vegetables were, I know they're good for you but I never had a craving for a veggie meal until I tried the market vegetable and feta wrap. This thing was mind blowing good and I was super jealous of my daughter's meal that even though I was full, I ordered a wrap to go. Seriously a milestone in my eating career, first time I've ever ordered a meal for later and a crazy craving for veggies. Looks like I've found a winner!!! Definitely winning with the Green Truck

Ah those metallic silver trucks lining the streets of LA. First time I ever saw one it was a taco truck...then I noticed more and more different kinds of trucks. And yet, I still had yet to try one of these until now. The two guys working the truck were really nice and laidback. They actually came to my work for lunch on a Friday afternoon even though we only have 16 people. Usually they said they need about 50 people in order to specially come, but they made an exception that day. First of all, this truck doesn't look sketchy or smeared with grease. Nice and clean, and very approachable. They specialize in organic foods, not entirely vegetarian or vegan only. Though they do have a vegan burger called the Mother Trucker. They use the oil they cook their fries in as gas, and they offer a wide assortment of earth conscious cups and plates. The good. Flavors. The flavors were awesome. I had the mother trucker, rosemary fries, bison chili, and the pomegranate black pepper drink. The mother trucker was a good size, and was really tasty with the green truck's signature pink sauce. I have to say, the sauce somehow reminded my of Burger King whopper somewhat! I don't know why since it was different, but somehow...but nevermind cause it really added to the burger. The chili was basically chunks of meat, and came out so hot it melted the spoons they had. Haha had a bit of spice in it too. Fries were quite nice and different with the rosemary. he drink was quite interesting, sweet then spicy at the end that hit the back of my throat. Not quite something I would chug down. And now... the bad. While the burger was one of the better vegan burgers I've had, it was super smushy. They needed to toast the bread more and hold the patty together so its not just squishing out all over. Fries were really good when it was fried well, which was only a few of them. Most were soggy. Chili was basically chunks of meat. If they can fix the smushy problem and the soggy fries...then they definitely would have something going. The prices are also quite high for a food truck, it is organic food, but everything I had cost about 15 all together. So, green truck, cook your fries longer and find a way to make your mother trucker hold together...and then you might need more trucks.

"massaged" kale

This was our experience; YMMV. We ate from the Green Truck at Mr. Bones's Pumpkin Patch, today. It was a series of "surprises." 1) their "today's" menu (i.e. taped-up pieces of paper) did not have an item my wife wanted; 2) AFTER we ordered we were told that they were out of eggs; 3) on the "today's" menu, there was no mention of beets in the kale salad; 4) the "massaged kale" was not massaged. They did a good job of trying to make up the difference: a) I was offered more of another ingredient in lieu of eggs; b) they completely remade the kale salad without beets and extras of everything else. The paleo bowl was rather tasty. The kale salad was "ehhh." Low value for the money.

spontaneous gchat message from david g: " hey the Green Truck is on your street today" ...apparently the universe was not pleased with my thoughts on having instant oatmeal for lunch. yep, it was another i-didnt-bring-lunch-today-because-i-have-no-food-at-home-and-im-sorta-livin-like-a-hobo-atm, day. and it is true: i have the lovely benefit of working on a street that many-o-food truck make weekly appearances at. instant oatmeal...or delicious food truck. decisions, decisions. please. one thing the green truck has that you won't find in many of the sd food trucks is a menu that not only sounds delicious, but sounds and IS rather healthy. veggie burger, grassfed burger, wraps, quinoa beet salad...their options made me feel like i was back in a granola-Berkley cafe. and i mean that in the most sincerely posittive way :) per tradition, we did halvsies on two entrees and a large salad. chipotle burger: meat had wonderful flavor, good portion, whole wheat bun was heavenly and reminded me of a delicious fresh dinner roll at a nice restaurant. all the ingredients complimented each other and this was probably the least greasy burger ive had. pesto chicken wrap: also very good but played 2nd fiddle to the burger, imo, flavor wise quinoa salad: both being russian we LOVE beets and these were some damn good beets. beets, quinoa, and feta? yeah im stealing this recipe. minus the argula rabbit food...twas unnecessary. prices are typical slightly overpriced convenience food but portions are just right and i had no buyers remorse on anything. win. win. win. oh and though a green truck....they take plastic now! (75¢ charge).

I'm so glad we did and I'm honestly craving their food right now. Every time I've seen them, they are parked in Sawtelle, on Sawtelle & Mississippi Ave right outside Daiso. The JFC Bowl. It seems this is the star and it's what I got at Gozen. JFC = Japanese Fried Chicken bowl, it is karage topped with a lot of goodness, including spicy mayo. It has a kick to it in all the right ways, full of flavor. The fluffy dog is just $5 and so original and cool. It's messy as heck, got some spicy kick to it and at least for me, totally filling. I'm going to have a hard time ever ordering anything besides my magical bowl moving forward. Legit good food and I'm wanting to eventually try their whole menu once I can move past my JFC.
