Luis is a nice, positive guy, and I'm bummed I have to leave this review. Unfortunately he was woefully underprepared for my job he bid and performed. I hired Green Zone to dig a ~45' trench to a shed in my backyard at 2' deep for electrical conduit. He initially bid the job at one day and $810. I made the mistake of assuming he had a trencher and other equipment for this task. He showed up on day 1 with a gas auger for post holes, not a trencher. After a couple hours on day 1, he said the cost would actually be $1500 , nearly double the original cost because of some unexpected difficulty with rocks and other debris. He spent a ton of time trying to get the auger to start/restart throughout the day. Of course he wasn't able to finish that day, and said he'd come back with electric tools more appropriate for the job. On the second day, he came back with the same gas auger, though it seemed to be in somewhat better running order. About halfway through that day, he said he wouldn't be able to dig a straight trench because of debris. He eventually got someone to bring an electric saw he used to remove this debris, to his credit. At the end of the second day, he said he was going to come back with a mini excavator to finish the job. On the third day, he did come back with one, but it was extremely large for the space and resulted in a completely destroyed yard surface, a damaged structure in the yard, and concerns about the shed foundation. read more

They pruned several trees, including fruit; removed dead dill stands, thick blackberry brambles, some "weed trees," and all kinds of entangled weeds and underbrush, then hauled away the debris, and spread mulch. Luis had a good knowledge of plant needs, and also understood the "wild and organic yet tamed" look I wanted. He had the skills and confidence to work fast, but the judgment to know just when to pause and ask for my preference. I hired Luis to remove some blackberries and bamboo out of my backyard. I also wanted him to backfill some window wells that I installed. He gave me an estimate of $950 for the root and brush removal including the roots and $320 for the dirt work. I gave him a deposit of $700. Luis showed up for a partial day (about 5hours) and another partial day (2 hours) 3 weeks later after I contacted him to see when he was going to come back. When he finally showed back up he moved some power tools that I had in a rain shelter out of his way. He didn't cover the tools back up and they have sat in the rain for three weeks now. I work out of state for weeks at a time so I couldn't put them away. I told Luis that I was going to hire someone else to finish the job and I feel like I need some type of a refund and this was his response: "You said you would have them turn off the electricity that never happened I think I've done for what you give me. My life is not worth that but I think I did work for that but okay " I told him that the power company agreed to kill the power for him. Pretty sure he needed to schedule that since it would have been off for a month waiting for him to decide to show back up. I am now out $700, a 10" table saw, and a 12" compound miter saw. read more

I had these two large well established Yuccas in my front yard basically flush to the house planted by the previous homeowner who had no idea how problematic yuccas can be in the Pacific Northwest. I grew up here in the Portland area thinking that desert plants wouldn't fair well here. I was wrong. Once established, yuccas have very annoying self defenses, and very elaborate root systems that are a huge problem to get rid of. Green Zone LLC replaced our front lawn with sod. Luis and his team worked hard as they had to remove the old grass, moss, and a layer of clay dirt to be replaced with quality soil to help the new sod. They also added a drain system to make sure water would flow away from our foundation. They moved sprinklers to help with future irrigation. The price was very competitive and his choice of sod is of quality. Our contract stated 7 inches of dirt was going to be replaced, they removed about 4. Some of the sprinklers were not placed at their optimum positions to make sure all of the grass would be watered properly. Overall, Green Zone did a good job. read more

I've had so many less than stellar experiences lately with people I've hired that I felt a lot of hesitancy in hiring someone new to do our yardwork this year. Our usual amazing people weren't available, so we were forced to reach out. In my hunt, I came across Luis and the wonderful folks of Green Zone. I must say, I am super impressed by them. I requested a quote, and Luis came out within the next couple days. He was great and thorough and promised to get a quote over late the next day. The quote was right on time and very reasonable. The guys arrived right on time and got right to work, removing a couple small dead trees putting in edging and mulch around our lawn, inspecting our drip irrigation lines, and cleaning up our beds (which were on a steep incline). I needed a couple of 25' Japanese cedars removed as well as a couple of arborvitae stumps ground out. Luis came out that evening and looked over the project. Within 2 days I had what I felt was a very good quote and hired him to do the job. The first day he arrived he noticed the bags of yard debris I had stacked up by the side of the house and offered to haul them away at no extra cost! On the first visit he took down both trees. One was very close to the house and the other in a narrow space next to a fence and my neighbors RV. There was little room for error and both came down without incident. Day 2 all four stumps were ground up and the areas cleaned and raked flat. I am so happy I found Luis/The Green Zone. He is a hard worker, goes above and beyond and charges a fair price. Luis is a man of his words. He initially came out to provide an estimate for the trimming of 5 x 35' trees at my home in Vancouver. He was extremely polite, professional and personable. The job started on a Friday, and after trimming one tree, he was very upfront when he mentioned that he didn't have the proper tools for the job and instead would wrap up the work on Sunday. Initially, I was a bit skeptical considering it took 4 of his guys one whole day to trim one tree and clean up the debris. Sunday came around, and his team was there early around 7:30am. In a matter of 2 hours, the remaining 4 trees were trimmed down to about 5 ft. It was super efficient and I was really excited; considering all the storms lately, I was really worried that the two trees in my backyard would either topple on my house or the neighbor's and that would have been disastrous! During the entire process, there was constant communication. Considering how busy his company is, at times it was really difficult to have him pick up my call (this can get frustrating!) so most of the communication was through text messages. Overall, I'd highly recommend Green Zone. They're a family owned business for close to 10 years and these guys work hard and the price is extremely reasonable.
