This place used to be family owned and operated and was a great place for trustworthy dentistry. Well they got bought by some big monster and now it's all up-selling. The original doctors Mat and Shane are no longer there. I've been seeing those guys for years and after each retired or left the office failed to mention I would not be seeing my doctor on a visit until I was sitting in the chair. Really sneaky behavior that happened twice-over. It's clear they no longer care about personal touches and it's now just a money-taking scheme. Will never go back. Stay away. read more

First, forget all the old reviews. Greene Street Dental is no longer the family practice started in 1946 by Dr. Aronoff and then taken over by his two sons, who both became dentists. The practice was sold to a dental conglomerate which has been buying dental offices across the city. All the original staff the reviews are written about (good and bad) are gone, replaced by an ever-changing staff of itinerant dentists shuffled around their offices, mostly ones who are working towards eventually starting their own practice. This means that you may, for instance, get a crown fitted by one dentist and then put in by another, and your next checkup will be with yet another. You don't get to know them, and they don't get to know you. In effect, Greene Street Dental has become like a box of chocolates - you just never know what you're gonna get. It's very shady to not let you know in advance that the person you considered your dentist is no longer working there until you come in. People who go to the hairdresser are upset when their regular hairdresser isn't there - the person who knows their hair, knows what they like and don't like. Teeth are obviously even more important. Dr. Shane Methal worked on one of my teeth and did all the prep work for a crown. Then he was let go by GSD's corporate owners. I came in to have the crown installed and then found out that a new dentist, who had literally just started there, was to put it in. She had only spent a few years as a practicing dentist and said she had come from Boston where she worked to earn her green card. She spent 20 minutes trying to take out the temp crown, trying to be careful so she could put it back in if the perm didn't fit. The assistant kept telling her that the perm would fit, and to just take out the temp without worrying about destroying it, and she finally listened. The permanent crown fit perfectly. She then struggled with the x-ray machine, and the assistant taught her how to use it (!!). The Aronoff brothers installed a system where music could be played in each room and the patient could select a genre, such as classic rock. None of the new dentists know how to do this. The brothers also installed monitors in the front of each room so that an x-ray or another material could be displayed there, rather than the patient craning their neck around to see the monitor behind them. None of the itinerant dentists know how to operate this either. If you are okay with this once family dental office becoming a factory dental office, and seeing a different dentist each time you go there, then this is your place. If not, don't come here. read more

SCAMMY PLACE. A ways back I went here once and was told I had 4 cavities (using some new piece of equipment they used to detect such things). I'd never had a cavity prior (visited other dentists every 6 months) , so this took me very much by surprise. I got 2 filled and they said I'd have to come back to fill the other 2. Which would have made me visit them 4 times in total (they split up hygienist cleaning and dentist visit???) Basically I didn't trust them. So I never returned to get 2 other cavities taken care of. Fast forward a handful of years and many dental visits later (with 2 other dentists) and have never been told the the 2 cavities Greene St dental said I had. I had. This place is SUS. My experience is they try to make any case to charge you or your insurance as much as possible. STRONGLY SUGGEST avoiding them. read more

I have a significant fear of dentists. It's so bad that I haven't been to one in 10+ years. Needless to say, my teeth are in pretty bad shape. Most of my molars have cavities and I have bleeding gums (gross, I know.) I really wanted to get my mouth back to a healthier state, so I started searching for a dental practice I can trust. After reading reviews, I decided to try Greene St. Dental and I'm so happy I did. Most dentists would be judgmental and condescending to someone who let their teeth get as bad as mine, but they have been incredibly kind and professional. I've worked with both Dr. Mccrudden and Dr. Shane. Both are phenomenal. Which is reassuring because I'll be seeing a lot of them over the next several months as we work toward getting my dental health back on track. Lastly, (and this is so important) they are very transparent with their pricing. Before they do any procedure, they call my insurance to ask exactly how much will be covered. Then they tell me the exact amount I will be responsible for. No surprise bills in the mail two weeks later! read more

Horrible experience. The first time I went I was rushed through a cleaning and the dentist tried to sell me on an over $100 teeth night guard that I didn't need. The second time I went (after scheduling an appointment) the door was locked, nobody would respond to the phone or any of my messages even though I could hear people inside the building (just ridiculous). As other reviewers have said: disregard the old reviews. This was a family owned business that was recently bought by a conglomerate. The only person left is a wonderful hygienist -- Yelena. The dentists I've been seeing for years -- Matt, Shane, McCrudden-- are gone. The place feels chaotic and untrustworthy. I wasn't even informed of this before my appointment for today - which was canceled. I've been going to Greene Street Dental for about 10 years now. They are ALWAYS friendly and accommodating. All of their staff members are incredibly kind and professional and care not just about your teeth, but about you as a person. While their prices are more than what you'd pay in suburbia, I always say that you get what you pay for. And Dr. Aronoff (Dr. Mat) is the best and worth every penny (not to mention a great conversationalist and quite hilarious). From regular checkups to my invisalign to root canals, I always feel confident that I am in the best hands. A special shoutout to his assistant, Arturo, who is just the loveliest, sweetest human being. A Dentist's Dentist! First, the staff is both friendly and knowledgeable, something that is not often found these days. Dr. A is one of the few, if any, dentists that I trust to treat me. He is both compassionate and meticulous- something that should be demanded by every patient. And, he is gentle- couldn't even feel the injection. Fraud Alert! I came here twice for a simple cleaning. I have a great dental record, the doctor and the dental hygienist agreed. Initially the cleaning wasn't smooth, then the hygienist poked and prodded my mouth, UNTIL I moaned in pain. She kept telling me "you're ok", but I wasn't. Afterwards, she insisted that the doctor have a look after she assured me that my teeth were in great shape. The doctor told me I was "dentally lucky" because I'm not the great flosser but my teeth were in excellent condition. He then began to poke and prod. I was fine. Then he keep doing it UNTIL I told him the dental instruments were hurting me. He told me I had a cavity coming in. I've never had a cavity. He insisted that I get a filling asap and extract a wisdom tooth that was not bothering me. He scheduled me for the following week. I did NOT believe him, so I got a 2nd opinion. My next dentist said "Wow. You're teeth are in great shape. I have no idea what he is trying to fill. Your teeth have no signs of decay. And there is no reason to remove a wisdom tooth that is not bothering you. Some doctors just want the money." She told me that she's not the type of doctor who would suggest unnecessary procedures. She suggested that I come back in 6 months for a cleaning. read more

Had an amazing experience at Greene Street Dental - reccomend to everyone in the nyc area. It was one of the most the thorough regular checkups I've had. We went through the xrays in detail together and I was given very good advice on how to prevent early issues. The process was very informative and straight forward when it came to services that may or may not be covered. The cleaning was also very great and my smile looks awesome now. Can't believe I waited so long to find a great local dentist. I also want to mention how friendly everyone at the reception desk is and they even gave me a "new patient" goodie bag. Do NOT go here!!! Office manager is shady!! I would give no stars if I could. I called ahead of time to see how much a small procedure would cost without insurance, literally popping a mucous blister on my lip and I was quoted $149. This was the front desk who also asked the office manager to confirm. So I came in, paid before my appointment and got in the chair. I had my lips and face numbed already when the office manager comes in and says to proceed they need to charge me another $120 so I had really had no choice at that point. I could not find an appointment for weeks with any dentist that was allowed by my no-so-great insurance. Out of desperation I went on Google and looked for a closest dentist to my home and I've found Green St. Dental. I decided to bite the bullet and pay out of pocket. After hearing that I have an acute problem they have found me a last minute appointment for the next day. The dentist was very friendly and quick and.... they didn't overcharge me. I've been going to Greene Street Dental since I moved to NYC 8 years ago. I've been fortunate enough that my insurance is always taken there regardless of the company I work at. The reception team is so friendly and always willing to get an answer for every question. I actually remember Katie and don't dread picking up her calls when I see them calling. The service I get is great and I never see extra charges to my insurance ever! I recently got my teeth whitened and had a pain free experience! Recently, my associates and I have visited the office at separate times and after discussing our experiences, it was mutually decided that the Spanish girl in the front, with the dark skin, is extremely unprofessional, judgemental, and has a terrible attitude. For such a high-end office, we can't figure out where she was found. Highly recommend. From the gift bags they give to first time customers to the giftcards they mail or for client referrals, you can tell that this firm really values your business. It's a modern family practice with two brothers owning the place- but my dentist is Dr Shane who is actually an instructor at the NYU dental school. Also love how they're a paperless office. his practice purports to be all about customer service but my experience with them does not at all show that to be true. I called on Friday to try to arrange a follow-up appointment with the dentist I had seen twice (Dr. Rob). I was kept on hold twice for a significant period if time and despite speaking with two people was unable to make an appointment and was told to "call back on Monday" There seems to be no record of me having seen the dentist the last time I saw him earlier in the week. Despite having x-rays done and knowing I had a cavity I was not permitted to book an appointment even though I made it clear I am in pain. The receptionist told me she ."Didn't want to waste the dentists time" giving me the wrong appointment duration. Also despite telling the dentist in my initial appointment that I was suffering with issues with another tooth, he simply looked at one tooth and treated me for that telling me I needed to come back again to get it checked, and after doing so (2 appointments) I'm still no further forward with the issue I told him about in the first appointment. Makes me feel that this is a bit suspect and designed to drag out as many appointments and as much $$'s as possible... I wrote to complain and there was no acknowledgement of this nor apology for the way I was treated, I was simply told I could come in to see the dentist that afternoon during work hours if I wished. I am very upset and am looking for a new dentist. I have never been refused an appointment before anywhere else in my life. Not a good customer experience. read more

I was away from my normal dentist and chipped a tooth. Luckily, Green Street Dental was able to take me the following day. Shane repaired the chip in 20 minutes and with my Delta insurance the visit cost me only $40. They also give you a little gift bag on first visit. Very convenient and good experience overall. I have been recommending Greene Street Dental to all my new colleagues. No dentist has ever made me so happy. The cleanings are thorough and personalized, I never have to wait more than five minutes for my appointment, and Dr. Rob is efficient and personable. The office technology and decor seems very new and advanced (to my amateur eyes). And they add a little touch: their TV monitors show soothing pictures.
