Overall Anthony, Mary-Patrice and Margaret Ruocco provided a beautiful, intimate and welcoming environment and I would highly recommend this venue for a special occasion or for just a quick drop in to sample some of their delicious wines.

They have a lot of room at their gorgeous bar, but they also have high tops and tables for families or a large group. And, they host events here too; birthday parties, bridal showers, and anything in between, this place is it. I actually want to hold one of my milestone birthday parties here but well keep the number a secret for now. Service: Alana was our bartender and she was wonderful. Always asking us what we needed and how were doing. You don't get this upscale service any where else. And, when I wanted another sample of something she gave it to me without a fuss. Always with a smile on her face, she was the best. Wine: They have an excellent wine menu to choose from and they offer flights for about $25 pp. Flights are the best way to try multiple wines. I personally loved most of the red wines with Petit Sirah being my favorite. My husband loved their Barbera! I did sample their Sauv Blanc too which was nice but it was too cold to have a full pour. Food: Their menu is great with a ton of options from charcuterie, to tapas and some entrees. I will say some of their items can get expensive but definitely worth it. We started with a few cheeses and prosciutto. Then we ordered one of their popular pizzas called La Cantina. Everything was fresh, made in house with their beautiful pizza oven right smack in the middle of the bar. You have got to see this thing, its huge! Overall: If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We had the best time and we can't wait to go back. I stood at the bar for a few minutes when I realized no one was coming so I went back to the front end to get some help. She sent someone right over. I ended up grabbing a flight because that's the best way to try wine at a winery you've never been to before. I decided to have my drinks outside on the porch patio. Walked outside and there about 15 people out there. I was wondering where everyone was based on how many cars were parked out front. They also have patio on the grass. Both have beautiful views of their winery. The pours for the flight were large, certainly more than a 2.5 oz pour however it just meant I needed to stay a little longer to finish and get right for the drive home. I think the flights may be more appropriate for sharing but either way no regrets here. The wine (well 3 out of 4) were delicious. I was not a fan of the Sunset Red it's their red blend and it smelled nothing like it tasted. I won't tell you what I think it smelled like because wine is a bit subjective unless you're a sommelier. That being said the boxcar red was much better and I think my fave I tried was the River Valley Riesling. Nice and crisp for the hot summer day. They have a gazebo outside and some tables and chairs with umbrellas for shade. A full outdoor bar seating area under a roof overlooking the winery and the occasional train. The ambience could have been perfect but they hang their dirty rags and towels on the porch to dry out. I think a little clothes line on the side of the building would work out well for this instead. There was also an umbrella and some other random items laying on the porch floor right near me. On my way out I asked about ingredients in one of their gluten free cakes, it's from Walmart. Now don't get wrong, I love having gluten free options but I was very surprised when they told me it's a Walmart cake. Just skip the gluten free treats and get the potato salad. It was fire and I would totally come back for that regardless if it's made in house or not. The workers were friendly and willing to help. I'll be back for another flight soon!

After checking out the local liquor stores and "fine wine" shops, we were directed to the Divine Wine Emporium and found a goldmine. Located conveniently along a major interstate, the Emporium doesn't look like much from the street, but give it a chance! Inside, the dual level store expands with impeccable organization, and great selection. Each section of the store is organized by region on each rack. We usually park ourselves in the Napa Valley area or France, but we eventually also meander through the whole store to see what catches our eye. If you're not a wine fan, fear not! They have a large craft beer section in the back, as well as a fine and craft liquor area, to round out any drink collection. My favorite must-haves are their extensive selection of France's Chateaunuf du Pape, and the illusive and rare White Chateaunuf. We never leave without a wine country classic like a Howell Mountain Cabernet or a Russian River Chardonnay. Selection is pretty constant, with some rotating specialties, such as my personal favorite seasonal pumpkin beers, or unique odd lot/limited lot Wine + items. There are gorgeous wines I've not had the opportunity to try yet, but we will absolutely be returning. Price is average, but the help at the Emporium is excellent. The owner is a wine expert, and has something to tell you about literally every bottle in the store. They also offer wine education classes, and monthly wine tasting by region, which I have yet to attend, but am both intrigued about, and excited for.

Kingdom of the Hawk is the sister winery to Saltwater Vineyard. The event was wonderful, we were treated to complimentary glasses of wine and cider (the cider was from the New England Brewing Company) accompanied by delicious catered hors d'oeuvres. We were able to explore the grounds at our leisure. The owners were present and they kindly stopped to chat with the visitors. The vineyard's exterior design exudes a charming modern barn aesthetic. While the interior has an industrial contemporary aesthetic, with polished concrete floors, steel beams, and a loft area with tables. The ambiance is reminiscent of its sister winery, Saltwater Vineyard. The vineyard has 2 parking lots, gender stalled handicap-accessible restrooms, and a beautiful ceremonial lawn. In conversation with one of the employees, I discovered that the wine is currently produced at Saltwater Vineyard. However, they will eventually combine the yields from both wineries in the future, and create wines for both vineyards. Given its ambiance, amenities, and scenic setting, I can easily see this place becoming a sought-after wedding venue and popular stop along the Connecticut wine trail. I definitely recommend visiting when they open to the public.
