The Woodist

The Woodist

Southeast Austin

I have used services of The Woodist for many years. They do excellent work and I would highly…read morerecommend them to anyone who needs furniture restoration, repair or refinishing.

I hired Scott Duncan of the Woodist to finish the cabinets in my home during a renovation and I…read moreseverely regret the decision. At the onset of project, I actually asked Scott if the job was within his wheelhouse as I sensed he was somewhat lacking in knowledge and skill during our consultation. However Scott assured me he could easily handle the installation and claimed he had significant experience with similar projects. In retrospect, this was an exaggeration at best and more likely an outright falsehood and misrepresentation. The cabinetmaker, Classic Design Cabinets in Elgin, delivered the cabinets to Scott and organized them by room as the job spanned multiple spaces within my home. When Classic Design Cabinets visited him again for a second delivery later, they found the previous delivery scattered across Mr. Duncan's shop in a completely disorganized fashion. Sensing the potential issues this could pose for my installation, they offered to help Scott reorganize the pieces. He only scoffed at them and rebuffed their effort. They actually contacted me to express their concern for his utter lack of organization and professional competence. Then came the actual installation, which was plagued by substandard workmanship and lacking in every sense of professionalism. The issues were numerous and glaringly evident. My kitchen cabinets were supposed to be clear coat only, but Scott failed to sand them between coats or even fill the nail holes, leaving unsightly pockmarks and defects visible. Even the painted cabinets in my laundry room have visible quality issues because he didn't sand properly between coats or fill any nail holes. His utter disorganization led to some doors being installed on the incorrect cabinets or lacking the correct paint. To add insult to an already painful injury, it took him 6 months to even complete his inferior work. Throughout the process Scott was constantly regurgitating excuse after excuse for the slow pace and shoddy workmanship. When I attempted to raise concerns about the "finished product" he got extremely angry and hung up on me. Scott even went as far as to show up my house, unannounced, demanding payment for the terrible work under the influence of alcohol. Talk about unprofessional! I would not recommend Scott Duncan of the Woodist to anyone for cabinetwork. He was not capable of the job and his poor workmanship is now a constant reminder of the regrettable decision of hiring him. Even worse, his lack of professionalism and inability to communicate with his client were startling. If you want my honest opinion, run, run fast.
