A delight to deal with. Greg has a one room repair shop in the basement of a small jewelry mall. You walk in and have to proceed all the way to the rear. Look for the grey door that says Lower Level. Go down those stairs and look for Greg's small shop. This guy is old school. He's hunched over doing his work. You give him your watch, he looks it over, and usually says No Problem and offers you a price. I needed my watch band replaced. Greg did it in about five minutes and I was out the door with a watch that now looked brand new. read more

Like some of the other reviews said, I wouldn't have been able to find this place without Yelp. It's located in the basement of the jewelry store near the diamond district. To get to Greg's walk to the back of the jewelry store and down staircase D. There are several workshops located in the basement and Greg's is located about halfway down the hallway to the left. Greg changed my watch battery and cleaned underneath the glass in less than 20 minutes for a very reasonable price. I'll definitely return next time I need my watch serviced. Not much to say except that Greg is super fast. The longest part of the whole affair is finding the place. It's located in one of those mega jewelry stores on 47th St and 5th. There are a set of stairs located in the southwest corner of the building, where you walk into an area with windowless stores. Greg's spot is on the right side coming from the stairs. So... as a (redundant, I know) broke New Yorker, I suddenly came in need of a resizing for my Ingersoll Mickey Mouse watch, which was replaced (thanks, Ingersoll!) under warranty, but of course, came with the full band, not the nicely sized band I had set up on the original. Yelp came to the rescue, and with a little luck and Yelper's directions, I went down the unmarked door in the Jeweler's Exchange to lead me down to the basement. Around the corners, past the "Please keep feet off the walls" signs, and there it was. A half-door marked "Greg Watch Repair" .. I pulled out my watch, he slipped it around my wrist and said, "A couple minutes, sit down." I took a seat on the chairs in the hallway and before I could even check in on foursquare, Greg comes out and I try the watch on.. exactly perfect fit. $10 cash (cash only, kids) and I was on my way. Glad I had found Greg! What a wonderful experience it truly has been. I'm from Long Island and normally jewelers around the area very pricey and lack the customer service experience that Greg delivers. This was very convenient also do to the fact that I indeed work in Midtown. The crown on my watch was broken and the battery needed replacement. Greg had offer to fix it at a cost that was slightly below average to the market, which in turn is great for the consumer. I was in a bit of a rush to receive the watch back quickly. I had turned it over to him on a Thursday afternoon at around 3 pm and he had assured me that I'd be able to pick it up by 3 pm the following day. He had kept his word and went above and beyond to make sure that it met the deadline. When I went to pick up the watch he said he had a slight hiccup due to the fact that a certain piece was broken from the watch he originally appraised (was not his fault.) This notion DID NOT effect the timeline he originally assured me of, and for that I'm grateful. I'd highly recommend Greg to anyone who is reading this and considering choosing a watch repair specialist. He's truly a great man and loves what he does (it shows in his work). P.S. as other reviewers mention it can be bit cumbersome to find his specific spot withing Jewelers on Fifth. I'd recommend reading other people's reviews in addition, they provide detailed directions on finding him. So I've been going to Greg for years, and for years he has raised his price of a simple watch battery from I believe $10 or less when I first started going there to $20 the last time I went there about 10 months ago. So the last battery he put in my watch only lasted 10 months or so and cost me $20. Today I had to replace the battery and I went to another place right on1096 6th Avenue. The guy was very nice and super fast and only $10!! Guess where I'm going next time I need a battery replaced? I just can't trust the guy. I brought in my semi-fancy Ebel Wave because the second hand was moving 5 seconds at a time - the sign that the battery needs to be changed. Greg said that it'd be $20 to replace the battery, extra because of the "water test". Fine, I waited for it to get done. 15 minutes later he told me that he tested the battery but it wasn't the problem, there was some other problem. I said that he could look into it, and that I would call him back. I called him back two days later, and he said that he fixed it, the cost was now $65. I complained that I hadn't authorized him to do work (I wanted to take it elsewhere to see if there actually was a problem beyond a low battery). He said that he'd lower the price to $50 to keep me happy. Then he told me that he had replaced the battery because it was low, and the contact because it was broken. Maybe everything he said was true, but he did work without my authorization, which made it impossible for me to take the "broken" watch elsewhere to see if it actually had a problem. read more

BEWARE of this seller. I would give zero stars if possible. I took my Tag Heuer watch to him. He shows me a small chip of metal and informs me it means the movement is broken. I leave the watch for a price quote and the next day he says its $250 to change the movement. I retrieve my watch and buy a $37 movement from DRS and take it to Napoleon Flores watch repair, who informs me the "broken" movement is in fact NOT BROKEN and fixes my watch for a $5 battery change. read more
