We had multiple tube failures in Seattle on a ride with friends and luckily it all happened not far from this shop. They got us in right away, fixed the issue, and trained my husband on how to avoid the issue we were having. It was amazing. Oh, and they also didn't charge us anything. Truly above and beyond. If you find your vehicle just too small to cart a bike to a bike shop and are not the least mechanically inclined to fix nor install a bike rack on your car, then go mobile!! Jesse zipped over to my place (booked an appt... quite easy... I can do this) and tuned up 3 of our bikes so my kids and I can ride once the weather gets nicer. What's more, he promise the lesser known R of the famous R siblings (reduce, reuse, recycle, REPAIR, refurbish)! Repair! I appreciate that Jesse can fix my bikes thus keeping them out of the landfill because I'd not know what else to do w them. Look no further; MBR is the best bike repair shop in the Seattle area. The folks at MBR are friendly, professional, and thorough. Their commitment to customer service is unmatched. I know that this is starting to sound like it might be a fake review, but I honestly cannot say enough good things about MBR. They manage to capture the friendly and personal vibe of a small-town bike shop despite being in the center of a large city. For some backstory: I've taken my e-bike to MBR a number of times over the years for tune-ups, flat fixes, and random issues. But my recent experiences with MBR really underscored how dedicated they are to doing good work and making sure that their customers are taken care of. My e-bike was stolen and later recovered. During the theft, there was significant damage to the frame. I took my bike to several different shops in the Seattle area. They all told me that my bike was "totaled", then turned around and tried to sell me a brand new bike to replace it. MBR was the only shop that actually wanted to repair my bike instead of just throwing it away and selling me something new. They worked with the manufacturer to order a new frame, disassembled my original bike, and re-assembled everything onto the new frame. Their dedication and commitment really shone through when the electronics had some issues after re-assembly. Instead of giving up, they worked with the manufacturer to diagnose and resolve the issue, and finally returned my bike to me fully-restored and functional. Throughout the entire process, they were up-front about what was happening and how much it would cost to repair, and proactively kept me up to date as they went through the repair process. I have honestly never had another experience quite like it -- MBR is on another level when it comes to their professionalism and customer service. This wasn't too far from where I live, so decided to come here for an overdue tune up. I bought my bike a year ago used and never brought it in for an initial check up, so you can imagine it needed a lot of work. These folks did a bike maintenance day at my work & I brought my Canyon in for a quick tune-up. I told them my front disk break was rubbing & asked if they could take a look. The first guy put his hands up & said to his co-worker "I'll let YOU take this one!" Hmm...OK. It's a relatively affordable commuter, not some 5-figure velodrome sprinter, but I know some shops are wary of Canyon's custom components so I'll brush that off. I also understand that corporate 'tune-ups' are more like a pit-stop triage, but frankly I didn't expect the up-sell. I came back & the tag on my bike said 'warped front rotor. 10% discount if you replace it through MBR.' Woah, I just had this bike looked at by my local shop after a run in with a LYFT driver a couple weeks ago & everything was fine. Sure enough, I took it back to Kirkland Bicycle and they trued the rotor & it no longer rubs. I get it if you don't have time for a full diagnostic but don't immediately recommend replacement as a default. I'm glad I got a second opinion. read more

I was double charged today. Last Thursday, I stopped by for a flat tire repair. The owner checked the tire and said it was fine and recommended a tube replacement, which I gladly paid for ($27). The next morning, the tire was flat, but I did not need the bike until today. It was clear that it was NOT the tube that was the problem, so I stopped by today at lunch and asked the owner if I could get a discount and get it repaired properly this time. He said, it really depends on what the problem is and he needed to see the bike for himself - which seemed fair enough. So my wife helped me bring the bike back to the the shop in my car and he took a look. Sure enough, he found a problem with the tire and recommended a new tire. Again, I agreed, but when I saw the final bill it was $50 and he had charged me for another new tube. I asked for a discount and he said he could give me a "friends and family" discount of $2. Why on earth do I have to pay for another new tube and labor when he messed up and missed the root cause of the problem (the tire) in the first place? I should have only been charged for the replacement tire ($25) I will not be returning and will be telling my workmates to either avoid this shop or discuss the bills in advance. read more

Most recently Jesse helped me troubleshoot a recurring flat tire that was due to a shoddy factory rim tape, fixed me up, and it's been smooth sailing ever since! UPDATE: I've now been here several times (always for bike maintenance/repairs) and they've been great every time. So I decided to "save money" by buying a couple tubes for my bike on the Internet and replacing them myself. But it turns out that the valve stems weren't quite long enough for my rims and it was a huge pain to pump up the tires (pump head wouldn't bite on). So I dropped by MBR and they had properly sized tubes for $7 each. And they offered to put them on for $10 each (plus tube price) on the spot, which I took them up on even though I felt slightly lazy for doing so. They did a fine job and I was out the door 15 mins later. They also sell bikes, mostly from the "Felt" brand. read more

I ordered a bike online and needed to get it assembled and tuned, but bike shops in the Seattle area have been crushed--most quoted me 2.5 weeks! MBR quoted me a few days. Once the bike came in, I called back MBR to give them a heads up on bringing it in, but turns out their hours have shortened and aren't accurate on Google, but Andy was extremely kind--he offered to stay a few minutes and accept the bike if I was nearby, but unfortunately I was not. I finally dropped off the bike this morning right as they opened and met Andy in person. Andy and team were extremely professional and accommodating--my bike was ready 5 hours later. My chain had a ton of sand and was having a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. They fixed it 2 months ago and it's still running great! The bike had issues before I dropped it off and now it feels brand new. My rear derailleur was having prior issues and he said they guarantee their work and will fine tune it if the kinks aren't fully resolved. I was in desperate need of a tune up for my mountain bike, but it is just one of those things, I hate to spend the money on....stupid...I know, but we all have our things. I bought a groupon for a tune up and met up with them at my rental in Seattle. I hadn't had a tune up since I bought it five years ago, which is bad since it was a $2,000 bike, but Jesse was great. He didn't make me feel bad that I hadn't taken very good care of the bike and fixed her up. I took a two hour ride the next day through the Valley and am a happy camper! read more

Every tuneup I've gotten has left my bike needing manual derailleur adjustments, both to the inner/outer limits and the barrel adjusters. They recently replaced my front outside chainring, and I had to bring the bike back no less than 3 times before they got the front derailleur set well enough to shift under any sort of load. (You'd think they'd carry a trainer with them and test this themselves, but no... if it shifts on a stand, it must shift in real life right?) Commuting over the next 2 days saw three chain throws, all due to the front derailleur, and the most recent one destroyed a (carbon) chain stay. To be fair, they did offer a free replacement chainring, but I just don't trust them to put it on correctly. Updates: Another bike mechanic took a look at my bike. Here's a list of things MBR did wrong: * Installed small chainring BACKWARDS * Installed 46t (totally not appropriate for my front derailleur) large chainring when they said they'd installed a 48t (on the outside edge of what is appropriate for my front derailleur) * Failed to align large chainring with small chainring read more
