I can't begin to thank Greg enough. The first time I met Greg, I also will stall at the stoplight. I couldn't keep it running when it was stopped in gear.. GREG listened to my explanation of my cars symptoms. Explain to me that the lock-up torque converter... Which wasn't supposed to be locked when you stop.. wasn't releasing when I stopped.. I told Greg I had recently my I lost my job and I was pretty much penniless. He asked me simply do you want your car repaired?? I SAID YES. GREG WENT INSIDE AND PICKED UP A 2 FT LONG PRY BAR, CAME OUT TO MY CAR OPENED MY HOOD, REACHED DOWN AND SEPARATED THE WIRING HARNESS FROM THE TRANSMISSION. So he disabled the lockup torque converter from working, for now my car wouldn't die at a stoplight or stop sign.. In the 20 years I've lived in the Chicago area, Greg is the most honest and knowledgeable mechanic that I've found. I'm the owner of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, and being from Minnesota, got into the habit of taking it back home to have it maintained, rather than being told that the "tires are out of round" or the "the halogen fluid is low" by a guy in the city. In the small town I come from, people are known for their integrity, and Greg is the first mechanic in Illinois I've found who lives up to that standard. I found Greg through an online search when I moved to Aurora in 2012 and needed some immediate work. In the past 5 years, I've gone to Greg for a number of issues, and every time, he's been incredibly helpful and forthright. My car is a 2001 Jeep Cherokee---she now has 215,000 miles on the odometer, has been stolen and recovered, driven through city traffic and out of snowbanks. To say I love my car would be an understatement. The last time I needed a repair, I asked Greg, given the age and mileage, whether it made sense to put more money in or to retire her back in Minnesota. He gave me a clear assessment of the problem, but told me that my beloved Jeep still had some life left in her, and found a solution to the problem. I'm incredibly grateful that Greg was there. Greg is also clearly knowledgeable and experienced, but even more, he's a genuinely good guy. He clearly cares about what he does, and isn't out just to make money. It is in the name but Greg is my mechanic and here is why. Took my Honda accord there over a year ago for a quote on breaks. The dealer quotes are a joke. Greg performed the break work and I received a better deal and superior customer service. I like to deal on a personal level with honesty and a handshake. He mentioned oil changes but I was still al little unsure. Until my last visit to the dealer. They told me I had an oil leak and needed $1200 worth of repair work. I told them to change the oil and get my car back. I immediately drove to Greg for a second opinion. without question he pulled it in and said yes, it is confirmed there is a small oil leak. He added some trace fluid to my oil and explained that it is a slow leak that develops over time, we will monitor it. It is not catastrophic but once it becomes big enough we will need to address it. It has been over a year and many oil changes later. Still monitoring the leak that was a must to repair from the dealer. My trust was developed and he has been my mechanic from that point on. Greg was so honest and based on the codes that came up in the diagnostic helped me figure out what the problem was. We have had a really hard time figuring out what was wrong with our van...even to the point of confusing other mechanics. It keeps starting hard and stalling unexpectedly. Long story short, when we "fixed" the fuel pump ourselves (since we thought that was the problem before taking it to Greg) and it still was stalling unexpectedly, we took it to Greg's. He looked at it in good time as far as what he quoted us and couldn't find anything wrong because it ran perfectly all day. We asked him to let it sit for a couple of days as it has NEVER started well after sitting. He did as we asked, and it still ran just fine again. Even though he never diagnosed a problem since it was "fixed", we know he still had spent a bit of time to observe it. We were prepared to pay the 50 dollars diagnostic fee that we had previously agreed to...but he didn't charge us since he didn't have anything to diagnose! So helpful too!
