one word: SUPERB! Took my 20 y/o jeep in for a tune-up 'cause I'd been noticing a loss of power in 2nd and 3rd gears and the tell-tale sign of engine knock & run-on at times. I can't say enough good things about how happy I am that I brought my car here. Last week, I took my car to the Toyota Dealership in Hollywood to have my front brake replaced and they tried to charge me over $650, which is completely criminal if you ask me. I really like Greg's. Very honest mechanic, knows what he's doing, is very thorough, and explains things well. He has a small shop with two other mechanics, and the place is very well run. I've been bringing my pickup and my Honda CRV there for a few years now, and he's always been very fair with me - if he's trying to fix an intermittent problem, and he tries something that doesn't end up working, he always keeps at it 'til he gets it, and he frequently doesn't charge me for additional work on a problem that takes several tries to figure out. My *only* complaint (and maybe it's a plus), is that if he feels like another shop would do a better job on a specific problem (like a weird transmission noise I had on an older car), he'll send you there rather than fixing it himself. It would be nice to just have a one-stop shop, but I respect his decision not to take on jobs he doesn't feel they're suited for. Thumbs up!!! read more

Having a vehicle in good working order in Southern California is as close to a NECESITY as anything else could possibly be---if you're serious about advancing or at least maintaining a certain quality of life. Greg's Tune up in Burbank is one of those rare finds of a mechanic who has both competence and real character. The place is not fancy, but you will get one-to-one service. Come to drop off your car as early as possible, because he gets a lot of loyal business. He opens his shop promptly at 8 am (Mondays through Friday). Greg is pleasant and friendly--but he won't waste your time; he will listen patiently as you describe your car's malady; he will assess the problem right away--or will give you a time when he can determine the source of difficulty and explain it; he will tell you what he will attempt to accomplish, and how soon, as well as honestly tell you of any areas of repair that are beyond his capacity to address (which are rare). He will update you as to the progress of your repairs; and he will give you honest and clear options of what you can and might do if your car requires prolonged or more serious attention. The shop is small, but efficient. The two other mechanics that work with Greg can be seen always working effectively, but they too, although serious, are also friendly. There is also one young lady who works well in this operation following up with customers after they've initially communicated with Greg. I've gone to this shop for three different vehicles for various minor and major repairs, and every experience has been consistently exceptional. I was 50 miles from home when my truck froze an idler and shredded the belt. Would not steer and boiled out the water. At 3:00 AAA brought it in and when Tino learned I would have to take 100 miles of Uber home and back the next day said he would fix it right away. He got the idler delivered and they got me out on about an hour! Price was reasonable (less than a one way towing the truck to my mechanic in Ventura) they topped off all my fluids and I could not have been more happy. read more

Due to illness I was unable to take my car in and meet Greg myself. My husband took the car and was pleased with the friendly service, from the woman in the office to Greg. It was our son who led us there after getting a $1600 estimate from the dealership service dept. Turns out none of what they recommended was what was of real concern and my son was able to repair all of that right in his driveway. Meanwhile, Greg's got right to the issues and it was only $220, saving us a bundle! They called when the car was ready, only taking a few hours to repair, and when my husband arrived, all the paperwork was ready and it only took a few minutes to settle up and get on his way. Today was my third visit to Greg's over the course of the last year and each time I have been very pleased. The receptionist is always very courteous and diligent about accurately documenting my requested repair work. I've also dealt with Greg directly a few times now and he's extremely knowledgeable and very honest. Today we took my car for a ride so he could experience the problems I was describing. He immediately knew how to rectify both issues. He's also given me some great referrals to other garages when he feels he is not the best equipped to handle certain work. I am in awe!!! First of all because most mechanics see a woman coming and they automatically start listing stuff that needs to be fixed thinking we won't know the difference. My husband and I are not car savvy so we really have to depend on yelp and research to know what is good or not. We had a broken A/C and I am 9 days from giving birth to our first daughter so I called everywhere in town and asked for pricing on checking the a/c issue. Everywhere wanted to charge non refundable $60-125 just to check the issue!!!! Called Greg's and the lady said $35 to check the issue and if they do the work the fee is waived. I called at 8 am was able to get an appointment for the time I wanted. Showed up 20 minutes early for my appointment and right away they took my car in and physically showed me where the leak in the hose was. I even asked if more damage was done and I was reassured it was not and I solely needed a new hose. Within minutes the mechanic had someone calling in the part and had an estimate for me and as promised the $35 fee was waived. The price was so reasonable and they were very upfront and transparent about the cost and since I had done research prior I knew it was honest numbers. I told them I had a time constraint and they got my car done 15 minutes early and $5 cheaper than what I was originally quoted!!! The lady running the office is very thorough and upfront about everything and honors her word. I have never been so impressed with a mechanic's office before!!
