With College Basketball season right around the corner this is the best place in Columbus to catch the UD Flyers play. It doesn't have 1000 TV's like a big franchise bar, but the close family like atmosphere and awesome staff make one almost feel like they are back on Brown St! read more

Can't say enough good about this place. We were in town for a men's softball tournament yesterday ,brought like 30 people and were probably pretty rowdy. Staff was patient, and they even brought out shots for us on the house at the end of the night. Possibly the best pizza and mozzarella sticks I've had in my life. We decided to stop in a few days ago and had a horrible experience. The two appetizers (calamari & fried banana peppers) we got to share were both cold. I ordered a Gyro and the pita was stale. The bartender saw most of the food uneaten and didn't ask how it was, if wanted a box or anything. I come here per an agreement for sponsoring our softball team. Thank you, Gressos, for sponsoring us! I understand that Gresso's prides itself in a faithful following, but I cannot count myself as part of the Gresso's fan club. Having been here at least five times, our service and quality of food has never met, or come close to my expectations. The last time we came here after a game, we waited for more than an hour for our food/appetizers. Nobody came around to check on our drinks or food orders, so we were basically left in the dark during this time. The patio was filled with groups of friends, but Gresso's was not, by anyone's standards, packed. Our server let us know 45 minutes later that half our order had been made, then forgotten about, and so the entire order for a group of ten had to be remade. Our checks came out ten minutes after we requested them. This is the fourth time we have had beyond crappy service. Instead of comping our tabs, Gresso gave us a pitcher of Bud Light and promised a free pizza the next time we come in. While the entire team appreciated the acknowledgement of poor service, this isn't the first time we had rotten experience. Another time, we waited 45 minutes for two pizzas when there were even less people there. Another time, we were stuffed without a care upstairs, where we had no room, and a server who rarely came around. This is a shame that I frown upon Gressos, considering the patio is awesome and trivia night has always proven to be a fun time. But one too many times my teammates have left dissatisfied for the same reasons. I wish the staff were a bit nicer and more capable, considering how much business we have given them. read more

Gressos's is the staple answer to the "Where do you want to go tonight?" question. The bar is quite handsome, built in a former mayor's mansion the general feel of the whole place is classy; however, it is still a jeans and t-shirt environment with plenty of LCDs for football season. The draught beer selection is alright. It's not a miller/bud light only type joint, but it also lacks some of the semi-obscure craft beers (I'm thinking of Tommyknocker, Wolaver's, and Bell's Two Hearted and Oberon) that one might find at a place like Surly Girl or Bodega. I think this is moderately odd because it'd fit the atmosphere quite nicely. Beers they have/are on tap that come to mind are Elevator Dark Horse(seasonal), Magic Hat #9, Goose Island, and Flying dog. Other beers are available in bottle form, specifically some of the beers I mentioned so if you're not a draught snob you can still be happy. The "Wheeling Feeling" is a specialty mixer here that's toted as a "night ender" (in a good way) and it definitely is potent and tastes like adult Kool-Aid, though I think a night ender is an exaggeration. That being said, I can accept the fact that I'm, a'hem, "seasoned" and don't really consider it a night ender, but I definitely wouldn't drive after one. Prices are pretty fair too, which helps as my girlfriend and I could put away more than a few. When bringing friends here I always describe it as the type of place you can go to have a good time, get good specials, not leave with bleeding deaf ears from obnoxious club music, and not see anyone puke. This puking thing is a big one for me- I'm not 21 anymore, I can't stand going to bars with rookies, or worse, fighters. The spirits do flow here, though, (enough so that Tara and I are glad we can walk to and from) and you can always meet some friends and have those awesome, seemingly philosophical, drunken conversations at 1:30 in the morning. Service here is top notch, and I've only ever had a few bad experience as far as waiting 40-60 minutes for a beer/getting the wrong beer goes. This was a server specific issue and I haven't seen her here in a few months so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Gresso handled the situation. (yes, Gresso's is owned by Gresso who politely introduces himself to anyone just coming in that he passes-- very nice touch.) Food- they do have food and it's pretty good. I don't think I'd ever come here specifically for dinner unless I was planning on having a few beers and/or watching some football too. That being said, it's better than your average standard bar fare. Bar staples like nachos, pizza, and deep fried anything are all good and it's obvious they have a real kitchen and not just a deep fryer behind the bar. The only complaint I have is about the music. Live music is here regularly and it's hit or miss, with more misses playing hits than I prefer. Usually covers of WNCI or classic rock type stuff. My main issue with it is that quite often someone gets up to sing WITH the live music for the night. These aren't advertised as karaoke nights. ***ATTENTION: just because you're drunk doesn't mean you can sing*** Some people are actually really good, but as a whole I'd like to take a pass and wish some people wouldn't be allowed to get up there and sing -or- if they get up to sing, let them only sing ONE song. We went here for Tara's birthday and a girl sang for about an hour- completely, walking-with-a-stagger, eyes crossed, drunk and it was terrible. The original performer was actually good, but I think we heard more from drunk chick than him. Every Tuesday is Pups-on-the-patio, which is cool as I'm a total dog person. I gave it 4 stars for the city of Columbus, though if you're local and within walking distance (or a short drive) I might say 5. read more

The drinks are nice and stiff and at a decent price. Their specials are usualy pretty good. I had a large graduation party at Gresso's yesterday for my son. 100+ people. This place and the staff are in one word phenomenal. The staff was so on top of it. No waiting in line to get a drink; the food was replenished when needed. They set aside this great area outside for my guests who wanted to sit outside or play corn home could do so. All of the little things they did just made my day so enjoyable. And the food! Let's just talk about that. It was incredible!!! People who had never tried a pierogi before are now addicted! Everything was delicious, my guests kept coming up to me to tell me how great the food was. Going into yesterday I was so overwhelmed, nervous and anxious about this event and they just went out of their way to make it a special day for our family. read more

The food is really good here. The patio is in the front and is always open to sit and people watch as the cars roll by while eating and drinking. They are open late even during the week and always friendly. If you're looking for a place to relax and not feel rushed, this is the spot. read more

I visited Gresso's with a group from work for their Ohio Valley night. A couple of my co-workers grew up in towns from along the Ohio River, and this restaurant hosts social meetings for these folks from Ohio and West Virginia. The house which is home to Gresso's is beautiful, and easy to find, right on High Street in German Village. Parking is behind the restaurant, or on surrounding streets. Our event was upstairs ( the staircase is amazing) They had a special menu that night with foods from the valley.. DiCarlo's Pizza and Coleman's Fish Sandwich, plus Yuengling ( All for $7!) We checked out the sandwich menu which we will try next time. It will be fun to go back when the weather is nice and we can dine on their patio. read more

Visited Gressos as it is the Nebraska watch site for games this year and my husband is an alum. I was impressed with what the owner has put into place to cater to the different alumni groups. A space is reserved (for free) and he gets both t-shirts and "custom" menus made for the group. If you wear the t-shirt and designate a player to score, you drink costs the players number (like #3 would be 3 cents.) There are a lot of TV's within view for watching several games at a time. There is a good beer selection on tap and the menu is decent too. The pierogies were really good! I like that there are multiple rooms in the restaurant and a nice patio too. The owner and other staff were super friendly. Service could have been a bit faster though. read more

i totally dig this place. i guess i am one of the "randoms" you will find there during the week...why? i like being personally greeted by gresso and lyn every time i come in and they remember my drink ( longhammer ipa). i love watching the crazy patio scene whether its pups on patio night, people taking corn hole to seriously,horrible karaoke, or a hit or miss band. i never touch the 5 dollar specials since they look like they came out of the toaster oven from a junior high girl's sleep over party, but i am always satisfied with the hummus and greek salad. great summer german village hang out. read more

I held a fundraiser here last weekend and honestly my experience couldn't have been better. I worked directly with Gresso himself and he was so accommodating. He called me the day of to let me know that he unfortunately couldn't be at the event but gave me the name of his bar manager(Stacey, who was also awesome!) and his friends Steve(also, fantastic) who was standing in for him. He also provided multiple backup plans in the event the weather turned bad(our event was outside). They gave us a great deal on shots to sell to help raise money and let us pass them around to their other patrons. I will gladly host many more events here in the future. read more

I came here having heard they had amazing pierogis and other good food. Well, I honestly thought that in a city that has as many good places to eat as Columbus that it wasnt possible to have bad food anywhere. I was very wrong. It wasnt just the way that everything was cooked, but the food itself was bland and surprisingly disgusting. I got pierogis and chili and my friend got a burger. Ive had better pierogis from the frozen section at the grocery store. They were dry inside and undercooked on the outside. The chili was the worst ive ever eaten. It tasted like 10 year old canned chili, dry and over cooked. My friend said the burger was very displeasing as well. Ive been sick all this next day after eating this garbage. We came here because our air bnb was right next door. The service was awful, and the food was terrible. We had a pepperoni pizza and the ingredients tastes like very low quality items. The fried banana peppers were terrible. They tasted like breading (which had no flavor). I couldn't even taste the banana peppers. I've been to Gresso's in person once...for the AIDs Bar Crawl. Great space, very welcoming people, great patio. We didn't order any food at the time as we were getting our drink on. I assumed it would be bar food quality. Flash forward to yesterday, July 4th. Our two first choices for Pizza were closed for the holiday. I don't really get why they would close on July 4th. Seems like a day people would order later. This was Planks on High and Grandmas on Parsons. Side note: Neither one of these places had an outgoing message that they were closed for the holiday. That's super annoying. When I worked at restaurants we would always keep the customer in the loop. So, you guessed it, we ordered pizza from Gresso's. Since they have so many other items I didn't think it would be great but I was in the mood for pizza. My bad. Their pizza is AWESOME. And not as expensive as the others. Crust was delicious, sauce outstanding. The pepperonis are just like Ohioans like them. Teeny, curled up and crispy enough to hold just a little bit of grease in them. Yum. I didn't even know this place existed till I was invited to a business event there. The drinks were what you'd expect - nothing crazy special, but good drinks. I didn't eat any food, so I can't speak for the menu. Nice, big outdoor patio right on South High St. I was there from 5-8p on a weeknight, so it wasn't too busy at that time. In the end, this place got a HUGE vote for me when I was walking outside and heard "Hootie Hoo" (Outkast) start playing on the sound system. What?! Hootie Hoo? Nice patio got to play corn hole while waiting for our food. Steak salad was great but the gyro not so much. If you are use to shaves gyro meat you will be disappointed. Fries are awesome and could have eaten this as a meal (fresh cut). Beer was a little pricey $5.75 for Sam's summer ale. Servers were friendly and provided good attentive service. Wasn't there on a steelers game day but they actually have food menus for specific teams when they are playing which sounds like a great idea. We would definitely go back for that. read more

This my favorite place in Columbus. The food is good (especially the burgers and pierogies), the staff is very friendly and the beer is always cold. Gresso is always there to welcome new friends and say hello to old ones. I always feel like I'm at a friends house not at a business. The patio is cool and on Tuesdays you can bring your dog...how cool is that?! Gresso is also very inolved in giving back to the community whether it's the Franklin County Dog Sheltor or donating proceeds from a Saturday nights business to Autism Speaks. I have never been more pleased to stumble upon a place unintentionally. Their fried Perogies and mozzarella sticks were amazing. The (most popular) burger I had was even better. Our waitress was fantastic and so friendly. I wish I remembered her name so I could give her a shout-out on how awesome she was! Our glasses were never empty. There was live music on the patio and lights everywhere, which gave it a casual community feel. The owner even came up to us to start a casual conversation. Gresso's really is where memories are made! We rented the whole upstairs for my high school reunion for a great, reasonable price and everyone raved about how much fun they had. The food and drinks are awesome plus reasonably priced. The staff bends over backwards to accommodate everyone. I've had the added pleasure of riding on their G-Shuttle several times. My first trip to Gresso's did not go too well, but I had a Faveroo, so I ended up making a second trip that went much better. The first time I went to Gresso's, the boy & I went for dinner on a Saturday night. The place was packed and we couldn't find a table - or a hostess to find one for us. Finally we sat at the bar and tried to order, but couldn't get the bartender to even lok at us. We left a few minutes later without ordering anything. The second time, I went on a Friday night & immediately found a table. Service was a little slow - but hey, at least we got served! I had the gyro & fries, my fiance went with a burger.
