MISERY...I was scheduled to take a 9:15AM bus on July 7th, from Richmond, VA to New York City. I arrived, as recommended by Greyhound 1 hour prior to departure at the terminal. I had the app, my e-ticket and my lunch, packed and ready to go. Greyhound didn't slow up until 11:24AM. After a tumultuous boarding drama where the gate changed from 15, to 14, to 16! Wef fnally left the Richmond Terminal at noon and hit horrendous traffic IMMEDIATELY, as soon as we got on the highway. I was supposed to arrive in New York York at 4:00PM. Now, without explanation, updates, ETAs or concern from Greyhound. I will be lucky to get home by midnight. Greyhound is unorganized, it's employees uninformed and it's schedules merely a suggestion. It has been pure MISERY for me. I will never ride Greyhound again. read more

This spot which has some access to public transit say you are staying in this city isn't bad but there's some areas I think we should note. One bit is the restaurant which in my mind could use a updating & such to me but the food is good & done as you tell them so there's no issue of that but if there may be a trick when I was there a bit ago (Feb. in fact) someone in the restaurant I thought I heard them say there were bugs in there but I didn't see any on me or my bags/suitcase so they got okay. Layout is such so if you transfer to one other bus or stay on it's pretty easy but with this Express thing one thing that they're trying to do is be Southwest or such-sorry but you're no airline. If I could give Greyhound a 0 star rating, I would. The bus my exchange student taking to get back to his parents was scheduled to leave at 9:00 pm on Saturday, but didn't depart until after 2:30 am the next morning. The bus broke down AGAIN, and my student was stranded at another bus stop until after 6:00 am the next day. What was supposed to have been a 12 hour trip has turned into a nearly two day nightmare. When I called Greyhound to get help for this student who speaks limited English, I was given no help whatsoever. Worst customer service ever. I have never been so angry at the way I have been treated by a company in my life. Firstly, I arrived for my express bus to Baltimore and found that there was no clear signage telling people where to wait for their respective bus destinations. When I approached an employee, I was spoken to in a very disrespectful and harsh tone given that I approached her during a trivial social conversation with a colleague while she was meant to be on the job, and told that I was a rude person... by the bus employee that is supposed to be friendly to customers. What happened next is what got me infuriated. I was told that there were no seats on the bus that I BOUGHT A TICKET FOR, and that I was being placed on the next bus with "priority boarding." This is absolutely unacceptable, as the next bus left an hour later and took an hour longer given that it was a local and I booked the express. With all of these complications, I ended up arriving in Baltimore nearly three hours after I was supposed to with not even so much as an apology from ANY of the employees involved. This is the last time I will ever be giving my money to the greyhound bus company. You get what you pay for and the bus fares are very cheap for a reason. read more

The worst bus station!! Getting a ticket means long slow lines. Then you find out, they want take a debit or credit card, you have to use the kiosk. Then that want tag a walker for a 76 year old man without another 15.00 dollar charge. If you don't get an online ticket, you have to pay double the price. The agents are rude and condescending. You go to the rest room, it's dirty and there's no toilet paper to be seen. When they make announcements, you can't understand a word they say. Horrible horrible service. Both Greyhound and the location are awful. I came here the 28th for a one way trip to Newark, NJ. I was scheduled to leave at about 8:30am, It wasn't till 4 In the afternoon that we left Richmond. At 8:00 they told us they didn't have a driver for our bus. Which leaves anyone thinking how the hell do they schedule a bus trip without a driver that's almost like eating cereal and not having milk. We asked when will there be another driver and I was told " We don't know hopefully by 11" straight up. We didn't get anything out of the employees at this location when asked for a manager we where told they didn't have one. The very nasty lady told me " you shoulda been listenin when she announced it we don't know where the driva at " first of all the lady's a man I woulda scrapped her right there but I was with my girlfriend but anyway moving on. 11 came around and we still had nothing. But the craziest part is !!! There was a whole nother bus for 11:30 that coulda taken us but didn't because it was on " another schedule ". So now it's a 8:30/10:00/12:00 and 1:30 bus with no driver to the Tri-State. Of course we ask again and the same " We don't know " b.s. we got the first time. So at about 1ish a driver finally comes and it was supposed to be the 8:30 bus that boards logically right ? Wrong. They asked us to file 2 lines based on elderly and those with children and everyone else. At which point there is no organization everyone just runs to form a line disregarding the line we where already in ( which is pretty shitty being that I was about 5th in the line I had been waiting in since 7am). The bus driver that was driving said bus tells everyone, only people from the 8:30 bus times are boarding. He then proceeded to tell everyone to form one line where the elderly where so everyone once again had to run to form a new line as to not get left behind. So everyone from the other bus times is on our line and it was obvious. But the dipshit driver they had still went on to let everyone board without checking tickets. If anyone from corporate is reading this and wants to disagree hold my nuts we saw them letting people on. FYI while all this was going on a news cast from channel 6 came and got the whole thing on tape and recorded the incident. Now we have a full bus of people from ranging bus times and of course we get left behind. So about 20 people are screaming at this driver telling him that there are people from other bus times on the bus. He assured us he would check the tickets and maybe 10-20 minutes later the bus left (side note: I went outside to the bus to see what was going on and I was told everyone's furious as it is and the driver didn't want to kick anyone off the bus as to not stir anyone up even further). So they take off and once again we're sitting there wondering when another driver would come. I asked the dimwits at the front desk again what happened and when is there going to be another driver I got the usual " we don't know " and " There weren't enough seats on the bus for all the passengers ". Well no shit for one greyhound reserves 5 tickets on a bus to make sure the don't over exceed they're passenger limit. So it was a surprise to me that greyhound sold more tickets then seats. At this point everyone is frustrated and no one has any answers. So I did the most logical thing anyone could do. Now I'm calling greyhound for my full refund the customer service rep told me it would be possible as " I had missed my bus " and " if the passenger doesn't make it on time for their bus greyhound is not at fault ". So I'm going off at this point. I asked to speak with the manager and he told me the same thing. But as all that was going on another driver appeared and we suddenly had a bus. So after a whole 8 hours of waiting we finally had a bus. I honestly feel bad for the driver because he was just as confused and angry as we where so I can only guess they pulled him out of. But to wrap it up we finally boarded at 4pm. I have boarded greyhound before on various occasions twice at this location but I never dealt with anything as bad as this. I can assure you I will never spent so much as a dime at another Greyhound facility ever again in my life. The staff along with any other employees should be fired. I'm giving one star because I can't give less. Traveling with Greyhound, I think, was literally the worst decision I could have made. The first bus I was on wasn't too bad, but in Baltimore we were held up for about 20 minutes waiting for a driver. Finally they pulled one of their people who wasn't even scheduled to drive out route and we were on our way. In Richmond we were told to get in line, then after about 15-20 minutes we were told our ride would be delayed 45 minutes. We kept our bags in line and sat down again. After the 45 minutes we're up we were told to get back in line...where we waited another 15 minutes and are still waiting. We were just told it's not our driver's fault but the fault of another driver.. I can't wait to see the outcome of this. I purchased a ticket for $50 but others traveling with me said they paid more. Don't ride Greyhound. It's not worth the money..or the hassle. read more

Whoever runs this place needs to open their eyes: More people would probably use this line if they renovated the damn place. It looks like it hasnt changed since the 1970's. The place smells god awful, the bathrooms at outdoor fairs are cleaner, and there seems to be just randoms bums walking around. There is also NO functioning outlets to charge phones and other electronics. The ones present dont actually work (plug falls right out). Outlets are something cruicial to have in a waiting area for obvious reasons. On top of that, the counter gave us our ticket that informed us of which terminal to go to when our bus left. And they some how managed to give us some number that was definitely not the actual terminal that we were suppose to be in. There was no one in site assisting people, like us, who were wondering why no one was in line 10 minutes before our bus was suppose to leave. The ride on the actual bus wasnt terrible. Didnt seem to be any shocks on the bus because everytime we hit a pot hole it felt like a magnitude 5 earthquake. The drive also pulled over the entire bus on the freeway to use the restroom. I get that when you got to go, you got to go, but for our safety, should of at least pulled off on an exit. Its too easy for someone to lose control of their car and fly into our bus. I could keep going but I think you get the idea of how poorly this compnay is ran. Hope the owner wakes up. read more

I see this company has not change. It is still awful with its service. 1) Late arrival (half hour later into Richmond) 2) Late departure (2 hours from Richmond,Va) Only to find out from the bus driver saying this late departure is the norm from ATL to Richmond, Va. Misssed my connecting train, therefore, I had to spend the night in D.C. 3) Disgusting bathroom at station (Richmond,Va) 4) Nasty restaurant, with food and trash on floor. 5) NO ONE communicated over the P.A. regarding your bus trip. Funny thing, just saw a broken down Greyhound on the side of the highway yesterday 2/13/2020. One smart passenger was quick to call Uber to pick her up to get to her destination. This bus depot is better than any other I've been in. They have a restaurant which is awesome because I'm usually hungry when traveling. I had a 3 hour layover here and was able to kill time eating in the restaurant. It's probably busier than a lot of other places but there was plenty of space and seating. The only weird thing for me was the fact that they give you a specific order ala Southwest Airlines. I haven't seen any other bus depot enforce this order thing like the one in Richmond. read more

In the previous times I decided to take Greyhound out of the Richmond station, there was never a delay. Today, I got to the bus station around 10:30 AM for my 11 AM departure. When I was in line to board, one of the workers stopped a girl standing in line in front of me, saying that the bus was full. Are you kidding me? How does a bus get full when tickets are bought in advance? The worker didn't give a clear explanation, and merely told all of us to wait 30 minutes for the next arriving bus. The Richmond Greyhound location never fails to look dirty and unsafe. The bathrooms are disgusting. Because I had to wait nearly over an hour for the next bus, I went to grab some food at the restaurant in the station, but was super disappointed. I ordered a corn dog, and two sides including mashed potatoes and corn. The corn dog batter was extremely hard, and the mashed potatoes tasted funny. I paid around $7, and I immediately wished I bought food elsewhere before coming to the station. I eventually got on the bus around 12:30 PM. That is 1 hour and a half past by departure time. Thankfully, the bus ride was fine- no odd smells and the AC was on the whole time. I used to be patient with Greyhound, but I feel that the delays can really wear people out. They need to really figure out a system to tell travelers where they will be boarding from, as so many people seem confused and angry. Unless I really have to, I think I will refrain from using Greyhound. I highly recommend spending a little extra to take the train, or other means of transportation. I'm really disappointed, and I think other travelers can say the same. read more

It is bad but not every experience is horrible! I got to my destinations both ways maybe a half hour late but most people who take the bus know what to expect! The station is disgusting the staff and riders are mean sometimes but if you get to your destination how much can you complain! Positive: The station itself was quaint, began my journey in Norfolk enroute to Memphis, as of this review. Negative: Upon leaving the station, you can see a sign stating that Greyhound values their customers, yet I'm trying to figure out why we didn't switch buses to one with functioning power outlets for our devices, when it was discovered they were disabled. This may seem trivial, but this is a 12+ hour trek and I've paid a couple hundred for my fare cross country, thank goodness it's just this bus, some of the passengers seem disappointed though. Particularly the couple next to me that was going to watch a movie together. I would have to say that I feel that this issue could've been handled better at this station. When people shell out cash for promised amenities, they come to rely on them. I know I did. UPDATE: Roanoke, Va. Station pulled Together to fix the issue on a Layover. Richmond take note. The service is a little slow but the lady at the register is nice. Just make sure you don't have an order different from what the cook thought you had. She'll tell you, forcibly, what you had. Don't try to show her your receipt with how you wanted it, she just get more angry. And if you don't get your food, you never ordered it, your receipt is counterfeit and you're a terrible person. But once she does make your food, she'll give it to you with a smile. The ambiance is a mix of incompetent people who thought leaving their luggage in front of the counter was a good idea, and shouting going on behind the cash register. I was initially thinking about making date night reservations because they have pumpkin pie, but because of the shouting matches, I think we'll stick to McDonald's. Oh and refills are $.50. It's very dirty in here, there are spills everywhere and nobody is cleaning them up. The floor is sticky and there is no organization. I have asked 3 employees about my bus boarding location and have received different answers all times. I also overheard other passengers complaining that their bus was over 3 hours late and they MIGHT get a driver in about 2 hours. I feel like I need to shower after leaving this station. read more

Greyhound online had my departure time different from the actual time. I ended up waiting a hour longer to leave. The people helping us board each gave me different info causing me to get in a line that wasn't my bus. It's inexcusable for Greyhound to have that type of error. When you travel you rely on the departure and arrival times to arrange other transportation. The overall experience will definitely stop me from riding with them again. It's been years since I've used Greyhound and they've changed for the worst. The restaurant there wasnt a place I'd choose to eat at. There could be other choices of food or a better restaurant period. A kiosk selling hot dogs would be better. read more

We had a game and we were told one time and placed under so much stress trying to get there on time. When problems occur greyhound should be better equipped in having a plan BC and D. Filthy inside and out. The waiting area is one big room. I didn't want to put my bag on the floor because it might get addicted to meth or catch AIDS. Imagine 10 overturned port-a-potties.....that's the bathrooms. The one working sink I found wasn't even attached to the counter. The restaurant looked as if it showed up via a time warp from 1978. The staff seem annoyed that you are there and never give an answer to any question. If you are taking the bus because you thought it was cheap and would be just like driving with actually having to drive, think again. If I could give it negative stars, I would. Greyhound was great! The delays on the bus in my only issue! Waited at the Richmond station for 3 hours longer than I was supposed to.

They actually suck, don't ride greyhound. Can't even simply accommodate for re-boarding passengers and the staff was very rude about it. Everything was so unclear and disorganized. Terrible traveling experience, clear lack of communication and organization. read more

This bus line offered one of the most awful experiences a traveler could go through. I had to take a bus from Woodbridge, VA to Fayetteville, NC because the train delay was too long. I boarded a bus in Woodbridge that had no air conditioning in the middle of July. The passengers were miserable and moody. So, for two hours everyone rode, complaining about the heat and discomfort. The only relief was the propped up emergency exits at the top of the bus. Upon arrival to Richmond, there was no apologies made. The attendants were rude and disrespectful and the least bit helpful. The bus station in Richmond reeked of urine that was looming out of the men's and women's bathrooms. That will be my last time dealing with this company and entering this bus station. read more

If I could give under one star I would. As a Canadian tourist going down to Atlanta to see family, I had an awful experience with this bus compagny. The staff was very unfriendly and even aggressive. The washroom in the station very unsanitary. At Richmond Station, my boyfriend and I were thrown out of the bus by an angry driver whom didn't like the conversation we were having ( saying that this bus transfer was uneasy). We have been screamed at by both the bus driver and the security guard whom it was impossible to discuss with. They threatened us and didn't want to answer our questions. I travelled many places around the world and never experience such an aweful transportation service. I do not recommand Greyhound for your travels in USA. A employee swore at a customer and then they shut their customer service window and left customers sitting on the floor for three hours with no explanation. Omg! This is my second time here and both experiences were horrendous. The first encounter was on Tuesday April 11,2017. I was in the middle of transferring buses to get to Raleigh, NC. The layover was suppose to be for 2 hours and it turned into 3. There was no explanation when asked, no apologies or anything. Now here I am almost a week later and this is reoccurring once again! The employees working the ticket desk is nasty. They have no professionalism whatsoever, they never have any answers to questions pertaining to THEIR jobs and they give sass when they do answer as if we should know the answer already smh. I am NEVER TAKING GREYHOUND BUS AGAIN. I have it 2 stars off the strength of the guys whom clean around the station and buses. Bus was overbooked, we had to wait for another bus to come over before we started our journey. Staff was incredibly disrespectful, I was on a 30 hour bus ride and every new driver we had ,was beyond rude to the travelers. Our busses keep on getting delayed, the drivers aren't showing up on time to their jobs. The Virginia drivers manors are beyond me. A mother sitting in front of me asked to grab her baby's car seat from under the bus because the baby was crying and the driver named William said "it was a personal problem". After she asked for his name to report him, he death stared her for a couple minutes and was talking about her to other customers! The policy states you are entitled to a car seat!! Not to mention the fact that it smells like human feces terribly, it woke me up from my sleep! I looked around and almost everyone on the bus had something to cover their noses for the 2 hour bus ride. It is absolutely unbearable, the customers here feel as if we are treated like animals. The seat in front of us slides back and forth crushing our legs and it is a danger to the children sitting in the seat. I would give this experience 0 stars if possible. I am beyond shocked by the bus driver William, making us all incredibly uncomfortable on this trip. This is beyond me and I hope Greyhound takes this matter into the right hands.
