This company basically charged double the estimate. The estimate was for replacement of 2 shower heads and 5 faucets at $190. for 5hours. They ran the bill up to $2106.94. First the plumber came and apparently decided to change out the sink traps and called in a helper, adding in materials (we bought the faucets and shower heads) and made a simple job a mountain and ran up an excessive amount in charges and time. They are unreasonable and the shoddiest company we've delt with. YOU have been warned, You will be sorry if YOU use them. BAD company! read more

Grier Argall's cost is $10,890 to install a single 50 gallon high-efficiency 95% natural gas hot water heater. This did not include the estimated permit cost of $600. The cost for Grier Argall Plumbing to install two separately located 40 gallon natural gas hot water heaters is $7245. This estimate does not include the cost of a $600 permit. The estimate did not specify whether it included hauling away of the old hot water heaters. We like Grier Argall Plumbing's reputation of workmanship. However, we can only give two stars for the pricing and the lack of return phone call for clarification of pricing. Other comparable, licensed and well established plumbing contractors in the county quoted $4900 to install two separately located single 40 gallon hot water heaters, and $5900 to install a single 50 gallon hot water heater. To be clear, neither of these aforementioned prices included the permit. Though, it did include hauling away of the old hot water heaters. Frankly, with insurance and inflation cost, we suspect prices have gone up for everyone, but to this degree not in our experience of 40 years of property management. That is to say, we have seen a single 40 gallon hot water installation (in and out) with a one-man licensed plumber performed in three hours. We have seen prices for hot water installation at $1500-$1700 (all in) parts and labor, NOT including permit cost. Even if we pump that installation price up for inflation, overhead and insurance to $2200, that is still an average of a $1200 for three hours of labor, or $400 per hour for labor, insurance and overhead on $1000 in parts. read more

He diagnosed multiple problems with water pressure that we have that other plumbers did not care about looking at or did not have the creativity to come up with the testing that Grier did to isolate the problems. Grier has come to fix a couple of emergencies for us in the hill above Fairfax, a broken supply line to the house and a mysterious leak. Both times I have been impressed with Grier's enthusiasm for the job, sleuthing skills, and ability to make a quick change with some clever hardware he had in his truck. Although I always strive to do the right thing, which in this case would be to replace all plumbing from the street to the faucet in our 1920's cottage, Grier was completely willing to work with what we have to fix the immediate problem. Cons: at 135 an hour I would not expect to get charged for 'travel time' and would similarly not expect it take 30 minutes to get from San Anselmo to Fairfax. I simply have a hard time trusting companies and spending hundreds and thousands of dollars to businesses I do not know. As a conscientious home owner my trust is earned and I worry about competency. I met Grier at a gathering at a mutual friend's house and immediately liked him. About two weeks later our bathroom sink developed a link so I called him (on a Sunday morning. Sorry Grier!). He returned my call promptly and sent out two of his crew to our house on Monday morning.
