I've gone three times during the pandemic and each time I go I order a combo, yet they never give me my drink, but I get charged for it.

Writing this is going to make my mouth water... Whats not to like about this place Mom and Pop style hamburgers, fries, shakes, onions rings and more. My better half usually gets the monster and devours the entire thing in just a few minutes. I usually only get the single cheeseburger and its quite large. If you're looking for some delicious, extra-greasy burgers, you've got to check this place out! Their burgers are much bigger than your usual McD's or BKs and have much more flavorful patties and cheese. I love how the cheese is heated and melted onto the patty... nothing like the cold cheese McD's slap onto their cheeseburgers. The fries are good... they are not "light" fries and have a meaty touch to them, if you know what I mean... This place would have to be one of my favorite burger joints. Their Mom and Pop style hamburgers and fries keep making me go back weekly. Their hamburgers are pretty simple but DELICIOUS. I can't leave here without ordering their onion rings as well. Best place to get onion rings! They also have shakes and other foods if you're not a burger fan. Best fast food burger around and they have TOTS!!!! Seasoned just right. So many of these places try so much seasoning, Burger House. I don't live on this side of town but when I am I certainly make a trip to Griffs. They also have crushed sonic type ice- awesome. Fun fact - my Dad worked at Griffs as a kid in the original Griffs in Wichita KS. I still have his uniform from back in the 60's. Enjoy the burgers and tots! read more

Five star ratings are for "Best in Class." Griff's is exactly that for great flat-top cooked burgers and hot crispy fries at a very reasonable price. The number 1 is a big double meat, double cheese burger, large fries, and large drink for just over seven bucks. There are burger places on every corner these days it seems. This is an old fashioned burger joint that you need to make a habit out of coming at least once a week. They are first come - first served so don't expect to rush through either the drive-through or inside. Everything is made fresh and they work on your order until it is finished in the order it was taken. Try everything on the menu at least once and you will find out your favorites over time. Very greasy, not for the faint of stomach. As for the service it depends when you go. Night shift has a lot of kids working but dayshift seems to be busier and better handled by management. If your food is wrong they will correct it but sometimes you'll get an attitude. Cheesy chicken BLT is great, I add jalapeños and extra grilled onions and it's a dream. The shakes are real ice-cream and made by hand WITH BLUE BELL. Make sure to check your food before departing. This place has some work to do but the food is pretty good over all. read more

I honestly don't know why this place still exists. Everything in here is old.. the orders are spoken over a Mic. The burgers are truly old fashion. The prices are cheap and the food quality is cheap as well. I got the crispy chicken sandwich combo. The chicken was crispy but too crispy. Over cooked batter and very little meat inside. The size is like a junior burger. The fries were skinny crispy fries. Nothing was really good enough to come back. I still don't understand why folks come here. I was told by my friends in Richland that this is the best burger place in town, but I am not a big fan of their source and meat in burger. The burger I tried was in #1 combo(if I remember correctly), the wired taste of the source and the dryness of the meat in the burger keep me from going back to that place. Also, it is a little pricey to me based on the quality of the food. read more

Not sure why I was told this place had a good burger. Burger was bland and very dry. Fries had no salt. Went through the drive thru w a friend that was craving a burger. I love the food here, but the attitude I got is what upset me. I waited at the speaker for 5 minutes before I drove up in the line because nobody answered. When I finally reached the window 5-10 minutes later I explained that I exited at the speaker and got no reply , so I drove forward. The Hispanic lady at the window snarked back "it wasn't 5 minutes, I have in the headset I would know". She then took my order and proceeded to talk bad about me to the other workers (she left the window partially open, so I could hear her). She gave me my drinks then had me park in the handicapped. Been wanting to try this joint for a long time so tonight we stopped in to give it a go. What a let down. The burgers were tiny. Not even a 1/4 pound patty. I got the BBQ bacon cheeseburger and there was one little squirt of BBQ sauce on the top in the middle of the halfway melted grated cheese. Seriously?? The patty was bland and dry, the bun was super cheap quality, the fries were like 2 day old Whataburger fries. I would take McDonalds crap burgers over this place. Griff's hits the spot and satifies my craving for a good cheeseburger. Ordered with only onions and mustard, it was delicious. The first bite was perfect going thru the bun, then contacting with the toasted edge of the bun, and finishing with the melted cheese and juicy beef. The combination of textures adds to the burger dining experience. I could eat more than one burger but need to limit myself and that one made me very happy. I wasn't even drunk. These burgers are OFF THE HOOK!!! It used to be a regular haunt of mine when I lived in Garland but I now live in University Park and have to find excuses to head north for my grease fix. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because they no longer fresh cut their fries, but the burger still stands on its own. Don't bother with the single and get the double with cheese. Hell, go for the Monster (3 patties - they're thin) and find a nice corner of the parking lot to sleep it off. These burgers are the real deal and the ice in drinks is crushed - not cubed. I've been passing this little joint for the past couple of months as I escort my elderly mom from Plano up Jupiter to 635 (she's scared to death of the freeway) and on to Terrell to make it back to her home after her visit. I just happened to be stuck on said freeway today and decided to jump back on Jupiter on my return home. Not only did I remember there was a meat market along there (I wanted ribeyes for tonight after WAAAAAY too much ham!), but saw it as a good opportunity to stop on into Griff's to get out of the wet rain and cold. With my trusty mobile Yelp app in hand, I quickly checked the reviews and deemed it worthy of a try. Nothing better than a decent burger, especially when you have only 5 days left before your D-I-E-T begins! Speaking of which, I guess it's a good sign if you aim to be "bad" before starting your healthy eating, and you only choose a single patty burger, right? Never mind that that one single probably has enough wonderful tasty & flavorful fat calories to last you for 2 days! But I digress... I entered and noticed that it was doing a decent enough business, with the drive-through fairly busy as well. The staff was friendly and helpful and allowed me time to get acquainted with their menu - no rush. I like that, as it allows me time to take in the place as a whole. After much indecision, I chose a No. 2 Monster burger with cheese (meant to add bacon but forgot) and was pleased when I was asked what I wanted on it and informed of the basics, plus a choice of mayo or mustard. (Not a mustard only fan which is prevalent for burgers here in Texas!). Also asked about their new potato options (can't remember the name of them right now) and was told they were almost like tater tots and they could put nacho cheese sauce on them or whatever I wanted. I declined (Sonic does the good FF tots!) but, rather than take other Yelpers' advice, I went with the fries. I'm a sucker for fries, regardless, and it's my opinion that onion rings often get messed up just as much as fries, due to variables in the breading. A potato is a potato, after all (even though I have yet to meet a good "frites" in Texas like you get in the NYC Belgian or French restaurants! Sigh). Anyway, I paid the nominal sum of $5.08 for the combo, was given a number and sat down. A short while later No. 58 was called and I picked it up, grabbing up some extra mayonnaise packets (real mayo, not salad dressing, which earned its own star!) on the way. Immediately munched down on some fries following my SOP - I thought they were pretty good. Sure, they weren't hand cut but I've had some really bad (i.e. soggy and limp) hand cut fries too. These were freshly cooked, piping hot, crispy outside and soft inside and were wonderful dipped in the mayo I squeezed ouf of the packet. After devouring the first few, not heeding the slight burn to the tongue, I turned my attention to the burger. The burger was wrapped (which I appreciate and filed away for future reference should a "drive-by" be necessary) and then put into a small paper sleeve which could be used for any of your preferred condiments for dipping. My first thought, when I opened up the burger was "Wow, I should have ordered the double". Then I realized it was because I had asked them to hold the tomato and had forgotten the bacon which caused it to appear small, since they have thin patties. My second thought was "Heaven" as my tastebuds delightfully transmitted the succulent flavor to my brain. Bliss. What I liked about it was the fact that although there was a bit of greasiness, it wasn't too much. Just like Goldilocks, I found it just right. As I sat there & savored, I realized what made it so good, and it sticks in my craw that burger places do this: Serve a nice, good-looking hamburger on a cold bun. Yuck. Nobody puts the bun on the grill any more. It's that simple, and it's what helps provide more flavor. I had this discussion with my mom recently. To have a truly good burger in my book, the bun needs to be heated (softened) on the grill too. This is true even for backyard BBQ grilling, except those buns should be brushed with butter first. :-) I'll go back and probably take my mom with me at some point too. There is a Smoking sign in the restaurant (even though no one was smoking) and I was told that smoking is on the left half of the restaurant (when you come in the door). Although I'm on my way to quitting, my mom is always looking for a place that still allows it so she'll be tickled pink about the burger AND the smoking policy. Hey, she's 72 - she can do as she wants! One more thing....after getting into the car, I ALMOST went through the drive-thru to grab another single, one with mayo, bacon, cheese & lettuce only - one of my fave junk food burgers - but common sense prevailed and I saw the wisdom of saving that one for a future visit. Delicious! Love Griff's! Got the BBQ bacon cheeseburger combo. Its not on the menu anymore but they make it and it is my favorite. The last couple of times I have came, fries have been soggy and yuck but today, super crispy and fresh. Everything was great! Its menu includes burgers, giant burgers, double burgers, and monster burgers, in addition to a (chicken-fried) steak sandwich, a fish sandwich, and a chicken sandwich. They also have yummy milkshakes in the usual trio of vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate offerings; and they claim to have freshly made strawberry shortcake. (I wasn't able to try it this trip, so I can't vouch for its freshness myself.) My brother had flown in from Seattle to visit our parents in the DFW area, and I'd driven up from Austin to see them, as well. Since Griff's was one of my brother's favorite hometown joints to frequent when he was in high school, I tagged along and enjoyed a casual lunch with eight of his childhood friends there. Being the good big sister, I ordered lunch for the two of us. The cashier I spoke with assumed that when I asked for a cheeseburger that I meant a giant cheeseburger ($2.59), not a regular one (which is actually what I wanted), but on the bright side, it did get smothered in mushrooms (30 cents extra). My bro got the steak sandwich ($2.79) and a small vanilla shake ($2.59). Our total was just under $9. Not too shabby, but I guess I should have explicitly asked for the /regular/ cheeseburger. (I still finished the giant one, though.) We skipped the fries since they're no longer hand-cut. One of my brother's friends brought her two small kids with her, and they seemed to do a-okay here. The older one played with the claw game (of skill) that lets you play until you win some candy or other knick-knacks. The verdict: Griff's is good, but it's not like you should drive 45 minutes out of your way to Garland to try it out. Awesome burgers, but impatient and rude drive-thru workers. Went to get a giant triple combo. Took my family with me and it was their first time there, so they took a minute to look at the menu. The drive-thru worker kept rushing us and when asked if we can have another minute, decided to give us the total for the incomplete order and told us to pay at the window. I wish I had gotten the worker's name, but instead decided to go somewhere else to eat. That was a bad experience. Left me furious, and unsatisfied. The workers need more customer service training, and there has to be a better group of enthusiastic and polite workers to compliment the delicious burgers at Griff's. I love the food, but haven't returned in over two months due to that one bad experience that ruined all the great experiences I've had there. I suggest knowing what you want if going drive-thru. This was a great place for a good burger....however they do remind me of Whataburger, but a bit cheaper. The dining area was not as desirable...kids screaming really takes away from my dining experience. But overall I'll definitely be back. read more

They had the onion rings ready and sitting on the counter for 10 minutes before anything else was ready so by the time I got them they were cold and not very good and also they were only five rings. Good burgers, but the staff is terrible, my 7.50 lunch turned into a huge ordeal after I was charged more than 35 dollars for it. Worst part is I was home already before their error was realized. After returning to get my money back, I was told that I would not recieve the money back on my card for 3-5 days. This is a BIG issue as I am the father of 3 children and live paycheck to paycheck. The manager that I spoke to first acted like it wasn't the first time this had happened, time to adjust your processes to 2014! The GM or owner was very curt and didn't care whether I left happy. Bought a crispy chicken sandwich from here very recently and it was disgusting, limp piece of chicken between 2 pieces of damp bread, no lettuce or tomatoes. The staff turnover here must be almost daily, different people here everyday who don't have a clue what they are doing, slow service even when there is no line.
