I discovered my first burger island over 20 years ago. That first hamburger at the Arapaho location was mind blowing. Over the years I watched them expand around Dallas and have eaten at most of the Burger Island locations. It hasn't been a perfect record for them. There have been ups and downs with food consistency,closed locations etc. However,it's still one of the best burgers you can snag in DFW without a 2 nd mortgage. Seems the once simple and enjoyable American favorite has become an over dressed and hyped $30 meal. Not here. You can leave Burger Island for $15 having a full meal combo. Burger island is hands down my favorite burger joint in DFW!! The burgers are made with real Pattie's not the frozen ones. The patties are juicy and never dry. The seasoned fries are the literal best!! & the customer service is unmatched. The restaurant was clean and presentable. This has been on my list for a while because my roommate has been suggesting it. We came here on a Saturday evening for quick dinner. I wasn't really feeling much to eat, so as usual, I went with my basic no cheese hamburger. To my surprise, it was really good. Also very big. The hamburger was pretty cheap, however if you add in a a drink and fries, it can easily be average cost of a burger you get at some casual dine in restaurant. Burger was okay. Ambiance was okay. Area where it was located, not the greatest. I give them a 3 star because they were quick with the food. It's a pretty chilled place to go get a quick bite. I didn't get that old oily taste with some fast food. Maybe because I came in when they just open? Lunch crowd start pouring in, which is a good sign right?? This joint is the proverbial hole in the wall, and thankfully fulfills the expectations on the quality front. We ordered the island burger, the hickory, the jalapeño cheeseburger, and the Hawaiian, as well as a plain cheeseburger for the boy. These things are huge, and everyone was driven by the flavor to overeat, leaving no need for take home boxes. Portions of fries and tots are also generous, and taste great. The staff are warm, friendly, and quite accommodating. They really want to earn your business. Stopped by on a whim to try this since I had not had it in a long time. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. The people were extremely friendly. Ordered a burger fries and a BLT. The burger was gigantic the meat was good but needed some more seasoning.The bread was very fresh and all of the toppings were very good. They had good fries and it was a larger order as well. Got one order of fries and it was enough for two people. Wife liked the BLT it was on Texas toast and she said the tomato tasted very fresh. This Burger Island is pretty much like the other BI's around town, however this location is closer to me. I with that said I was wanted to try out their Bacon Cheeseburger and they made it pretty good. They didn't ask me how I wanted the meat cooked, but it came out okay. I think when most places cook bacon they use like one of those spatula thingamajigers that hold down the bacon flat while it cooks, but my bacon was all kinds of curled up so bacon distribution on my burger was off. From previous visits to their other locations, I should have known that I would have been full to the max with a burger and drink, but noooooo, I had to order the Texas Toothpics too. They're strips of jalapenos and onions batter dipped and fried. Dip'em in ranch and it's golden! I was sad that I couldn't finish the whole order in one sitting with the rest of my food. This location has been various restaurants many times over and over with failures before Burger Island came in. I hope BI has much better luck than previous occupants. This location is right around the corner to RCC so it must be convenient for the people going to school. I tried the Jungle Burger and their Cod (Fish) Burger. The Jungle Burger was enormous! Imagine an average sized burger stacked x3, and add jalapeños and bacon- there you'll have a Jungle Burger deliciousness. It was pretty spicy but was very good. I got a side of fries and those babies were fresh!! I also got a cod sandwich for my grandma and that was pretty good as well. Imagine the fish sandwich you could get at McDonald's, but juicier and bigger in portion. Definitely recommended to try out. read more

Stopped in here for a quick to go order on the advice of the training center staff where I was doing a class. I got there about 1230 and the place was pretty full on a Wednesday lunch hour. As soon as I ordered and was paying- I saw the cook pull out a patty of fresh beef (not frozen) and put it on the flat top. Good things in store!! About 10 min later my order was in my side seat on the way back to class. The cook was nice enough to ask me if I wanted it sliced in half for easier eating- to which I had said yes- good decision as it required reptilian jaw unhinging to fit in my mouth! I got the jungle burger which came with four different condiment sauces, bacon, cheese, and all the veg. It seemed like it would be overwhelming but fellow yelpers had blessed it as awesome. I was totally not disappointed- from the freshness of the toasty bun, perfectly cooked meat, and awesome concert of the sauces. I've lived in Dallas all my life and decided to try out this place for the first time with my friends. Food: I ordered their mushroom swiss burger and it was enormous and savory!! I also had fried mushrooms on the side (what can i say, i love mushrooms) and they were delicious! (Tip: wait a while to let the mushrooms cool down bc one bite into them right away and they'll burn your tongue like hell) Service: When you first walk in, the guy that works in the front is very friendly, kind, and sociable. I like a server who can make small talk with a customer, rather than standing there staring at me quietly while i look at their menu. Overall, definitely recommend this small burger joint. 2.7 stars: Went for lunch today since I worked out before work and felt I deserved some saturated fat in my diet. I will say that I think this place turns out good burgers most of the time but here's my story. I walk in at 1:15 PM and place is just about empty with one 4 top leaving and 1 guy in a booth just starting his lunch. I order the Big Island burger combo meal, pay for it and watch the cook drop a large roundish mound of ground beef somewhat resembling a patty onto the steel griddle and I'm thinking "nice". I see that their burgers are 1/2 pounders and I believe it. I can't wait to eat this bad boy. I wander around deciding whether to sit in booth or a table. The place is somewhat shabby and not in a chic way. Greasy spoon kind of shabby. Probably not 3 minutes later my order is ready and I'm surprised it's ready so quick. I've cooked burgers before and I've neer cooked and dressed one that fast. I ordereed mine with mustard instead of mayo and no onions (work day) and that's how they made it. The bun managed to dwarf the patty and I noticed it was quite well done but not totally dry. I also noticed it had a crust on one side. I like a little crust on a burger or steak since it provides a good bit of flavor but this crust was more substantial than that. I'm not going to claim the patty was burnt but the crust definitely had some crunch in my mouth.. I'm going to venture I'm 80%-90% sure that I got a patty that had already been (over)cooked and then got reheated for me. A customer who ordered after me waited about 8 minutes to get his burger and I watched the cook from where I sat and know his was cooked to order all the way. after watching man vs. food it was a episode full of burgers and beef...I decided to try the richardson/dallas location of Burger Island which was 3 min away from my apt. this first time visit was wonderful~ we arrived around 12pm on a sunday the place had 5 tables of people and 2 behind us waiting to order......the 3 workers quickly comes to our help took our orders Kathy ordered a 1lb regular I had the 1lb double jungle which was topped with mushrooms, bacon, green pepper, jalepanos, onions, 2 types of cheese and two 1/2lb 100% angus paddies ...YUM!!! the thing was bigger than my fist/open palm and it smells delish!!! I cut it open and the beef was still juicy and hot.....the cheese was melted onto the meat and the bun each bite was a flavorful burst into a beefy yumminess the jalepano and the mushroom after taste was great leaving you a kick in the MOUTH so you'll want to order some season fries or a soda with your order ....if you decide to order the big boy like the ones we have here there's 1/3 1/2lb burger meals that comes with fries and drinks but I wanted to see if I could finish the whole 1lb-er in one sitting after watching Adam on Man vs. Food hahaha~ and indeed I finished the whole thing in less than 50min =P but couldn't finish the fries... the service was good, place was decent clean.....bathroom could use some update and cleaning tho'......TV could be bigger but the experience and the food was awesome!!! would definitely go back here again!!! 2 ...1lb burgers, small seasoned fries, 1 large soda ....total was about $17 I rate this place 4.5 stars~ read more
