Grill City is decent for when you are wanting to pick up a meal to satisfy a craving or for a decent food spot if you're not feeling for anything in the food court or the Filipino spots near by (Jollibee, Red Ribbon, and Chow King). They do have a really nice meal deal during breakfast where if you buy one breakfast combo meal then you get one for free and it seems like they will go past the allotted time as we got it minutes before it ended but they were doing it for customers after us. The food here is alright, it's not really food that tastes like it was prepared with love and care like homemade meal but again just to satisfy a craving or get Filipino food. The BBQ skewers here are good and that's what my boyfriend's mom gets for us whenever she is in the area. The kare kare here was pretty meh and definitely not worth the price. The pancit was decent but I definitely make it better so not worth getting. The chicken tocino at breakfast was delicious and I have not seen chicken tocino served at other Filipino establishments so it was neat that they had that as a option. The coffee you get for breakfast is pretty meh and they didn't offer us any creamer and gave us four sugar packets. The service here is pretty slow for no real reason and the staff doesn't seem to have a sense of urgency. There are plenty of tables and chairs to choose from and they have a good variety of foods available including a slurp alley (dim sum, hot pot and more). The thing about Grill City is that it is unique in how it captures everything I like - and everything I loathe - about Filipino culture. THE ROSES: The selection of dishes is marvelous. The execution is marvelous as well, particularly in regards to anything that is grilled onsite. The char and flavor is spot-on. If there is better, I don't know where it is. Since Grill City is at Westfield Southcenter mall, there is all the free parking you could need. Prices are reasonable for what you're getting. THE THORNS: The ordering system and overall environment is at best chaotic, and at worst a total sh!tshow. All I wanted today was a simple plate lunch. The large video screens offered such a thing called the 'IniWow Combo Plate'. You choose one grilled item, one other item from the steam table, and your choice of either (1) rice, (2) pancit, or (3) a half-and-half combo of the previous two offerings. Trying to actually *get* this from the counterpersons was a whole different song to dance to. My clerk insisted that the only thing I could get was the half-and-half. I tried to explain and point to the screen, but it was no use. Even when my wife, who speaks fluent Tagalog (the Filipino language) tried to intervene, it was for naught. I decided this wasn't the hill I wanted to die on. I simply took what they gave me and ate in sadness. Needless to say I won't be back. I don't like to eat in places that make me feel like a failure. TOP TIP TO MANAGEMENT: It is clear your staff works hard and is eager to please. You need to do a better job of educating them regarding what you have on offer. When I'm craving Filipino food for lunch or something, this has quickly become my go to spot. The line can get long and move a little slow so just having that expectation will really help you. They did recently increase some of their prices but no complaints here. I can get a solid meal and have more than enough for around $15. My favorites dishes are the following: Liempo, grilled pork belly. They chop it for you and if you get the meal it comes with one slice, two scoops of rice and one side. Don't forget to ask for the vinegar when paying. Palabok, rice noodles tossed in a seafood gravy topped with boiled egg & chicharron. I don't know what it is about their Palabok here but it's damn good. No fresh lemon but they do have lemon packets to squeeze on top. Just make sure to ask for it when paying if they don't give it to you. Dinuguan, blood stew with pork & pork innards and best eaten with rice. The dinuguan here is perfectly balanced and seasoned and love it. Ginisang Ampalaya, sautéed bittermelon is my man's fave. He loves bittermelon and sometimes they have it with eggs (his fave) or just with tomatoes and onions. But either way it's good. BBQ Sticks, you can't go wrong with either the pork or chicken but my preference is the pork. Especially when you get a nice fatty piece on your skewer to balance out the lean meat. They make this fresh all day, along with their other grilled meats. Sinigang na baboy, the sinigang is served with plenty of veggies and they definitely do not skimp on the meat either. Sometimes the meat can be a little tough because the pieces are more lean but I'm okay with that. The sabow more than makes up for it. I love my sinigang very sour and while this one is beyond sour it still has a nice flavor and balance to it to please many pallets. I love their lechon here. The skin is crispy, the meat is juicy but their bangnet is a pass for me. It's too crispy and tastes too fried if that is a thing. There are many tables in the open area to sit at if you want to dine in. And if you don't know the name of something that you want, it is okay to point. You can point with your mouth or your finger. There's no judging for that here. Just know that especially on the prepared food the names on the glass don't much line up with the actual dish. First off, the grilled chicken/pork skewer here is so good and savory! It has been quite sometime coming in here, and I ordered the value meal with the chicken skewer and another entree. I forgot the name of the other entree ordered, but it kind of looked like curry, and it had pork meat in it. That was pretty tasty, too. I mainly came here for the skewers though. But there is so many entrees you can choose and do not worry, they give you lots of rice too! So, nice of them to think of their customers. Grill city can be very busy in here, it'll be lucky if you can find a place to eat. Since, the place is located in the mall and directly in seafood city grocery stores. For what they're charging now, I expect fresh food--and that's not what I've experienced. The food tasted like it had been sitting out all day. The rice tasted old and dried out, and the BBQ pork also lacked freshness, as if it had been reheated multiple times. That's unacceptable at these prices. It's especially disappointing because Filipino food is known for being flavorful and comforting. For many non-Filipinos, this may be their first exposure to Filipino cuisine, and unfortunately, this doesn't leave a good impression. In a well-known establishment like Seafood City, Grill City should be setting a higher standard--not cutting corners. This wasn't a one-off experience. I thought the first time might have just been a bad day, so I gave it another chance. Same result: underwhelming food and noticeable decline in quality. A quite surprisingly good fast option for grocery store cafeteria food.. I was honestly really pleased with the quality of food here. We had originally wanted to get Jollibee, but after seeing the line we decided against it and went elsewhere. This was conveniently located inside the grocery store next door, so we decided to come try. I don't get Filipino food that often, so this was pretty exciting for me. We got the bbq pork skewer which came with a huge portion of rice, and chose the rice noodle stir fry as our side. They were super generous with the portion, although I was sad they were out of the chicken adobo. The food itself was great - the pork was tender and had such a yummy sauce, and the rice was somehow so amazingly fragrant and good. The noodles were just ok - a little too much pepper for our taste but not bad by any means. Every time we visit family near Seattle, we make it a point to drop by this area for Filipino food. Been here before but first time to dine for dinner. We ordered pinakbet and grilled mackerel with steamed rice. The pinakbet was good, not too salty, and the mackerel was delicious - moist and not overcooked. GRILL CITY AT SOUTH CENTER MALL I want exactly what's on the Ad posted on top of the counter and what she hand me over was totally different from what I ordered. I calmly repeated myself and politely ask her to give me what I want. She argued and with a high pitch saying " That's what's on the menu! You should've told me that you wanted a noodles!" She was rude and pushed the plate harshly towards me and said " it's already plated!" I was embarrassed. Everyone was looking at me and I was speechless. My friend who was standing next to me suggested to take what she serve and just pay for it. I was forced to order a noodle separately, also I wasn't given a portion or a side of pickle just like what their ad says. I was craving longanisa, and my bf brought me here since he said his parents always eats here and they like it. Well, they didn't have any longanisa... maybe only for breakfast? So, my bf and I both went with the 2-item combo. I got the Kare Kare and Pork Adobo, and he also got the Kare Kare and Pork Menudo. The Kare Kare was an additional $2 upgrade, and was actually my least favorite out of the dishes we got. It came with a little side of the shrimp paste, and I definitely needed that because it was bland without it. A lot of fatty pieces on the beef and pork, but the pork adobo and pork menudo was still decent. Long line; getting the food wasn't too bad, but waiting to pay was what took the most time. I had to get the pork skewers since they were being cooked as well as the chicken skewers. Halo halo overload had flan, jackfruit, coconut jelly, corn flakes, red bean and more topped with an ice cream scoop of ube with a spring roll filled with ube. So good! Food is reasonably priced and authentic. My parents live an hour away so when I'm craving some ginitang or pinakbet or the many other Filipino dishes I cant cook I come here. Ugggghhhhh I'm so frustrated about rating this place as i was pretty excited to get some food here. This place was between a 2-3 stars but I decided to round it up because I can see myself coming back for certain dishes. First, in order to even get into this place, you would need to have a mask. "No mask, no entry". I learned that the hard way and was denied of entry last week when I tried coming here. Anyways, pricing here is weird to me, the skewers and ala carte sides was super expensive for what you get, but everything else was reasonably priced. For 1 small skewer, it's $4.99, I can easily get 2-3 for the same price in the ID and probably for a bigger size as well! I ended up not getting it even though that was what I wanted in the first place because it's pricey. For the ala carte, you can get a small cup of deli stuff for $7! The cup is literally the size of a McDonald's parfait cup. On the other hand, breakfast combos are a great deal, between $4-7, you can easily get a hearty breakfast that will last you to dinner! Their value meals aren't bad either. You get a protein, a side and rice and it can cost you between $10-$13 depending on which protein you get. I got the squid. They gave me a pretty generous portion of squid which was nice and it was tasty as well. So, I wanted to get this entree with no rice, and they wouldn't let me. If I didn't want rice, I couldn't get the sides and it would cost me $9 for the squid. So, I had to get the rice in order to get everything else...so I ended up getting rice...they gave me a lot of it too but I find that weird. As for my side, I got the coconut curry with veggies and the curry was light in flavor but good We also got some liempo and bangus that was already prepacked and they were reasonably priced and good as well. Was amazed at all the grilled meat selections and different fish. We ordered a number of items but of course had leftovers. We had BBQ Inihaw, stuffed pompano, grilled bangus, laing, ginataang puso ng saging and calamansi juice. My favorite was the stuffed pompano it was stuffed with garlic and tomatoes lots of flavor. The bangus was a little dry and the calamansi juice tasted like it had something else mixed in my friend agreed. What I was really surprised about liking was the laing (taro leaf with meat or seafood cooked in thick coconut milk spiced with labuyo chili, lemongrass, garlic, shallots, ginger, and shrimp paste) love this one had a nice kick to spicy for my friend though, and ginataang puso ng saging (banana heart, diced pork in coconut sauce) didn't think I would like a vegetable cooked down that much but both had great flavor and were distinctly different. For it being a fast food style where you pick items to go they were fast. I wouldn't have known what to order id my friend wasn't with mw I'm glad she got a good variety for me to try. The price was right at just above $10 for a stuffed grilled bangus fish and a side, which I picked as pork adobo. There's a vast array of other Filipino dishes here that I'd love to try, but what I picked this time around was tasty. The best? Probably not. There's a dedicated BBQ station, a good selection of whole grilled fish and squids, the typical ready-to-scoop entrees that I don't easily recognize, some custom drinks, and a separate area called Pinoy Street Foods. The BBQ and seafood area looks the most attractive. I have never found their ready to scoop entrees to even look appetizing. Why does everything always looked so overcooked? They are either drowning in sauce or drying out where the edges are curling. This was dry years ago, and it's still dry during this visit. The Pinoy Street Foods area look poorly filled, but I can't really blame them. There just aren't that many customers. I remember it to be much more hopping at all hours on the weekend. The price is on the high side for everything across the board. They do have an expensive address, being in Southcenter Mall itself. If you're in the area, I'd say it's worth choosing a thing or two, but I wouldn't feed a group with the food. We chose the grilled squid. It is nicely charred. The tentacles are quite tough, which I don't mind. The body portion was perfectly tender. This was a good selection. 2 large whole squids for $15.99. Grill City is a place I go to whenever I'm in the area for my Filipino fix! As you may know, it's hard to find some bomb ass Filipino food in Seattle or the Eastside, so options are limited. I'm thankful though that Grill City exists. Grill City is located in Seafood City in the Southcenter Mall, where all the other Filipino specialty eateries are. You wait in line, pick from the already-cooked food on the counter and if dining in, find a seat nearby. The dining area is always packed and loud AF. Many Filipino families tend to come here and dine in. I usually get my grub to go, especially because when there is a spot open in the dining area, it's always dirty with food scraps. Yeah, plan accordingly. Food is not bad though. They have your classic Filipino dishes (adobo, pata, lumpia) and BBQ that usually attracts all those who come to Grill City. They also do party trays and catering! My go-tos are pancit and BBQ pork. Everything else I've tried is A-OK. You just can't even compare it to mom's! I really wanted to like this place. It seemed popular enough but sadly, I was not impressed for a couple reasons: (1) The service was very slow. You just choose an entree from the menu board and then slide along the line to choose a side to go with it - essentially cafeteria style. It's intended to be "quick service" and all the food is already prepared, but about 15 minutes passed from the time we got in line to when we finished paying. The staff didn't seem to be very organized nor focused and could have followed a more efficient process. For example, they could benefit from an assembly line setup, where one person is responsible for the grilled meats, one person at the side items, etc. (2) The labels of the food items need English descriptions. I'm NOT familiar with Filipino cuisine, so I had to guess what items were based on their appearance. I could have asked the staff to explain all the options, but I didn't want to hold up the line further. For instance, a label reading "Laing" or "Daing Na Bangus"....how am I supposed to know what those are? A simple description would help immensely and definitely speed up the ordering process. (3) The food was okay, but not great. The chicken and pork skewers had a sweet BBQ marinade and nice grill flavor to them, however I found the pork to be pretty dry. Two side items, the Chicken Afritada (like a chicken stew) and similar beef stew were pretty good - both contained lean pieces of meat and mix of veggies. I did not like the Palabok, which is a noodle dish mixed with a very fishy-tasting sauce. That's probably its intended flavor, but I personally found the fishiness to be overwhelming. For about $9, you'll get a grilled item, large portion of rice and a side of your choosing. I'd say that is a reasonable price and the serving was definitely filling but the quality of the food was just alright. Sorry, Grill City. Anyways, it's like an arm and a leg now for these sticks. I believe one stick is $4? I bought 4 one time, and it was like $16 and some change... so pretty much each stick is like $3-$4. Which has gone up quite a bit. I will say, b/c they cook for the masses, I have taken a bite of chicken that was maybe almost close to not done. Skewers here are good, but DONT COME HERE. You'll just be treated bad and have awful service! I ordered the skewers below and when I went to pay they charged me way over. When I inquired about the deal listed below and they told me it would be available in a week or 2!!! How can you put up a sign with not date and tell customers it will start at an undisclosed time in the future!! It is absolutely ridiculous. I asked to talk to the manager and the staff said I'd have to wait an hour since he was on break. I said I'd wait and she said okay. I went to talk to another employee to see if manager was here and this second employee said she'd get the manager! The first employee came up to the second employee and they started talking in Tagalog before grabbing the manager. WHY DID THE FIRST LADY LIE TO ME? That aside, the manager told me they put the ads out to notify future customers if the deal so they know it's upcoming but they don't know the date. I told them if they put up the sign they should honor it or at least put a date on it. He said this is they say it's always done and did nothing about it. This review is about the absolutely horrible customer service. Food here is GREAT! Get the pork skewers, hands down the best thing there. But we had such a disappointing experience with the workers there and the manager that I had to share. We came in last Saturday and saw a sign promoting a BUY 4 SKEWERS GET 1 FREE deal (at the entrance facing the rest of Southcenter Mall). When we ordered and asked the workers about the promo, they said that it doesn't start until Monday. Ok, weird, maybe we read the sign wrong. So we got our food and ate, albeit a little disappointed. On our way out we passed by the sign again and read it very carefully, it said NOTHING about any dates on it! So we went back to ask the Grill City workers. They claimed that we were wrong, so we asked to talk to the manager. Then the lady we were talking to said that it would take 30 MINUTES for the manager to come talk to us. We knew this was a blatant lie so we told them we would wait and sat down. Since this place is part of the food court of a grocery store, we decided to walk over to the Customer Service to complain. When the workers saw us talking to Customer Service, they ran over and said "Oh! The manager is suddenly available." And proceeded to call him over. (like what). Anyway, the manager came over and we explained the situation to him. He told us that the promo starts on Monday but we told him that the sign was misleading and we had deciding to come in from the mall because of the deal. The sign really should have the dates of the promo, or they should honor what they are promoting. The manager continued to argue with us, making it feel like we were in the wrong. Eventually we just left, disappointed in how the workers treated us about the manager situation (they lied hoping we would just leave) and with how the manager dealt with the FALSE ADVERTISING. He could have easily mitigated the situation by offering us a free skewer and telling us that he would make the sign more clear for future customers. He did neither. On top of this, the store was twenty min from closing for the day so all the extra food they hadn't wouldn't be sold to customers away. Very disappointed in how the situation was handled. We bough Makarel fish paksiw yesterday and it was very salty and no ginger and garlic in it. This is the second time I noticed that the cook here at Tukwila Wa. must be putting too much salt in all the dishes. I had adobong pusit once and it was too salty as well.
