What you get when you order the salad plate
    Mindy L.

Shady business. They have their salad plate posted as arugula, hummus, beets, tomato cucumber salad, pickled onions, feta cheese. What I got was iceberg lettuce, hummus, tomatoes, feta. When asked about the plate, they said they are out of cucumbers, and they use iceberg lettuce now and will update their menu soon. Same $12 price though and no offer to correct their shadiness. To top it off, the lettuce had brown spots and hummus was blah.

    Pita sandwich

Now with a name like Grillicious you'd tempt almost any sane person to try the food out . I ordered the pita sandwich with gyro and pulled chicken. The gyro was pretty good, I personally liked it more than the chicken. The pickled veggies were a good addition to the sandwich just the right amount so the acidity doesn't over power the other ingredients 7.5. The service is good and quick here solid food truck hopefully I see them again on Wilshire. FALAFEL!!! Guys grillicious makes some killer falafel perfectly seasoned and cooked with a homemade sauce that just goes perfectly with it. Honestly some of the best falafel I've had. Next is the pita with hummus. The pita bread here is great on its own with the hummus you got a superb combo. I don't like when my pita is tasteless this one is what I expect pita bread to be every time. The hummus wasn't too acidic nor was it too plain I really enjoy the balanced flavor profile. Also I got a little grilled chicken that was just recently added to the menu it's awesome till next time grillicious! ^^

I've discovered the secret ingredient of the street fries. Roaches!
    Sole I.

Don't eat here, unless you love roaches in your food. I found one about halfway through my street fries with gyro. Yuck!

$5 for this? Beyond sad & where is the cucumber?

We had the Peruvian scallop crudo and chicken Bao buns from this menu. They were divine. From the main menu, we had the frena, sweet corn tortellini and hangar steak kebabs. The bread was perfectly spiced, the tortellini was sublime and kebabs were such an elevated take on steak with chimichurri. One super minor thing: I think they could have been even better if it was medium rare, but it was still amazing! Can't wait to go back!

Food: 3.5 stars Ambiance: 3.5 stars…read more Service: 1.5 stars I have now been to this place twice. I was excited to share the experience with my friends, as I recalled it being good when it first opened; so it was definitely repeatable. However this second trip was -- insulting. It looked like a place run by kids in their 20s, with no customer service experience, and unregulated emotions. So let's start with the main star-- the food! With a number of options, it was hard to narrow down what we wanted. But finally, we made our choices between the small plates, shareables, and mains. To our disappointment, they were out of the branzino- fine. We understand. We replanned what we wanted (you have to put your whole order in at one time). Then we decided to get a number of additional small plates-- and wanted wings. Guess what? Womp womp-- after our server informed us the Branzino was out, she moved on to attend other tables. During that time, they ran out of the wings. No problem! We decided to just get the chicken. The Blue Fin Carpaccio The Octopus The Grandmas Cigars The Crispy Tuna 2 orders of the Chicken Jidori 4 glasses of wine for the table This is everything we went with. The wine was excellent. The Blue Fin Carpaccio with Challah - Good, but the Challah was not grilled, instead burnt The Octopus - some of the best I've had, exceptional The Grandma Cigars- underwhelming The Crispy Tuna - salty & nothing outstanding The Chicken Jidori - very good Now here's the problem. When we asked the server to if we could get another challah, she was annoyed. She then brought out another piece, this time much smaller, less fluffy, and entirely dry, and said-- "it wasn't burnt, they grill it". Then I started to explain, well the last one, the taste was burnt and the edges-- but before I could finish, she said, "I'm gonna walk away now". To our shock, she left mid-sentence. This could've been a kitchen issue and not her issue-- but with the way she handled the service, it was absolutely insulting. I asked for the manager, who simply changed our server. Made no additional amends (but she did fix our wobbly table). There was no concession, or enjoy xyz on the house, or remorse. I suspect if she was a friend of the servers that was a host, and not the manager. As she didn't handle the situation like an established and competent manager. In the end, it may have been an off night for the kitchen and the staff-- perhaps the manager went to enjoy the World Cup watch parties and left the restaurant in hands that just couldn't match the demands of the evening. It was a Sunday night, and the vibe was on, with a filled restaurant. I enjoy the space, but I can't say I'd be delighted to experience what I had, not from a food or wine standpoint, but pure service. After $400- I expect better service. I get treated better at Sweetgreens, and that only costs me $25.

What a great kick off! As for our mains, we both ordered a variation of the combo plates. I had the chicken tawook and beef. The Mrs. had the chicken and lamb. All good. Based on the food alone, we would recommend this place to anyone with a beating heart and more importantly, a mouth. This is quality food at a quality price. The atmosphere? Really great. It's a little dark and twinkly inside which sets a nice tone. There is cool artwork adorning every piece of wall, the place is very easy on the eyes...including the restrooms. Very clean. Our sever, didn't catch his name, but what a nice dude. Was super helpful without being "too much" he should teach a server class. He's pretty much who you want taking care of your table. He knew the menu well and made great suggestions. It was actually refreshing. We will come back, most likely with the family. Our waiter told us that they can accommodate larger groups which is great. I recently ate food at Saffy's and I didn't enjoy it one bit. The servings there are too small, too pretentious and too overpriced. Open Sesame is the exact opposite and that's why it rules. A wonderful experience in Beverly Boulevard.

What a fantastic meal we had here!…read more Felt like Mediterranean so decided to check out this place. First of all service was absolutely phenomenal. They want to ensure that you're having a great food experience. As for the food everything hit it out of the park! The Cretan Feta was potentially the most tasty appetizer I've ever had in all my life. The pita that came with it was freshly made when we ordered it and it was so soft and tasty. The feta itself was whipped perfection! They recommended drizzling their olive oil on it and what a game changer that was! Side note: they make their own olive oil! Apparently you can buy it on Amazon but we took some home direct from the restaurant. Back to the food - had their lamb chops (that came with perfectly cooked potatoes and veggies) and their meatballs. Both were outstanding. Finished it off with their baklava which was the perfect consistency and level of sweetness. The perfect end to our night. This is a small cute and perfect place to go with your girlfriends or on a date. Plenty of street parking (and we went at 6pm on a Wednesday). Will absolutely come back for their breakfast! The standout for me was definitely the baklava as you could really taste the honey and walnuts, and it tasted freshly made rather than overly sweet or stale like some places. Parking was also surprisingly easy since it is located in a larger shopping center with 90 minutes of free validated parking and most places there seemed to validate. My first time coming to Soom Soom - I'm going to give it a 4 out of 5 stars this time around…read morebecause I was extremely hungry and I ate the food almost too quick to enjoy it fully. I plan to come back again to try it a few more times and update my review accordingly. This place reminds me of a fast food/Chipotle-style eatery, but serves Mediterranean food instead. You order the type on entree you want (Shawarma, kabob, schnitzel, koobideh - pita, plate or wrap style) or a la carte with the sides. Each Pita/Wrap/Plate comes with your choice of rice or couscous, 4 sides, and 2 half pitas. 1. Beef Shawarma Plate (4.5/5) The beef is cooked on the famously known Middle Eastern vertical rotisserie for well-balanced roasting. I can taste a bit of the Middle Eastern spices used in the seasoning of the meat. The beef was sliced very thinly, was not dry, and portions were reasonable. It was delicious to eat on its own, when mixed with couscous, and when used as filling in the pita wrap. Comes with 2 sides of dressing. The white color dressing (not sure what it is) was bitter, which I was not a fan of. However, the spice tahini sauce was very good and very mild in heat. It had a light tartness to it that gave additional flavor to the dish. *Tabouli salad (5/5) This is a traditional Middle Eastern salad consisting of fresh finely chopped parsley, mint, tomatoes, and green onions, with bulgur wheat and mixed with lemon-olive oil dressing. The parsley flavor was robust and the salad overall was fresh and refreshing. *Side of Beets (5/5) - fresh and crunchy. I hate preparing beets on my own at home due to their staining effects, so when I can get it fresh at a restaurant, it's my go-to. It is packed with fiber, micronutrients and nitrates, which helps to lower blood pressure, inflammation and improve athletic endurance by improving blood flow. Beets pair well with hummus and Tabouli salad. *Hummus (5/5) - I personally found their house-made hummus to be quite good. It was creamy, very smooth in texture (no grainy-ness at all), and had a strong chickpea nutty flavor profile. It has the perfect consistency to eat on its own, to mix with your meat and couscous, or to use as a base for your pita wrap. Minus half a star only because staff were not very friendly. They spoke very softly, which required me to ask them several times to repeat, so that was a bit annoying.

Armand was the doorman and let us know of this and that's when we were in a predicament. He checked with the hosts to see if they had any availability to seat us but they unfortunately did not. He then told us the next available reservation was 9:45... Welp we're already here, so might as well put us down. He was very nice and helpful at the door when we initially got there and when we were leaving. We went to the bar, as that's self seating and available for anyone, but it's a little small. There's maybe 8 seats inside and 10 seats outside ? For around 30 min it was full with no available seats but once we found 2 seats Willy came by and introduced himself. He was great, from his service to his drink recommendations. I tried their espresso drink; divine intervention, and it wasn't bad. A different type of espresso and it came with churros, which I decided to dip into the drink, lol. I liked it. A solid 7/10. My friend got their spiritual, not religious drink. It had cucumber, pineapple, vodka and a whole lotta other syrups but it was surprisingly good. I couldn't even taste how there was a bunch of juices. My friend loved it. After about 45 min of us chilling at the bar with Willy I decided to check if there had been any changes to our res time and shockingly the girls told me they had a table ready so if we wanted to get sat now we could. I was like YES! Went back to the bar, closed out and got taken to our table. Liza greeted us right away, she was very sweet and knew the menu very well. I ordered their prime filet and this was delicious. The steak was literally melting in my mouth. When I first saw the steak I thought it was small but it was more than enough. Everything, from the seasoning to the side sauce and toppings was exquisite!! My friend got their shrimp tacos and said it was ok. Nothing to be excited about. She wouldn't order them again. After dinner I decided to try their late bloomer. Put the order in and then a good 10 min went by and my drink never showed up. I normally don't bother the workers because there are so many reasons why a drink is taking awhile, but I asked someone if they could check on it. A couple minutes later a manager shows up with the drink and sincerely apologizes. I was totally fine with it but he was so sorry about the timing that he took it off our bill. That was so nice of him, especially because I wasn't expecting that. He was bald, wore glasses and was wearing a dark navy suit with jeans. All in all we had a wonderful time at casa Madera, from the elegance of the restaurant to the delicious food and wonderful service. We will be back!
