I came here recently on a weekday to meet up with two friends. There's a big, free parking lot in the back which is very convenient. There's also "one hour parking" in the front on the street but I didn't see any meters so I'm not sure how they're enforcing the one hour so I just parked in the back lot to be safe. The restaurant has indoor seating as well as outdoor seating both in the front (3 tables) and back. Separate men and women single bathrooms were in the back as well. My friends and I opted to sit inside with the air conditioning because outside seating was still a bit toasty due to the weather that day. We met up around 12:30PM and the restaurant was pretty empty at that time. I ordered their Lunch Special which was a 12 inch personal pie with a 16 Oz soda ($15.60). I got a sweetened iced tea instead of the soda. I wanted a topping (mushroom) so that was an additional $5. The iced tea was wayyy too sweet for my taste and the pizza wasn't that great either. Too much crust, not enough sauce and barely any mushroom topping. The 12 inch size though was filling and I didn't have any leftover. Having grown up down the street from this place, I am oh so very loyal to my Grimaldi's. Grimaldi's has the perfect pizza-eating environment. It is clean, well-ran, with just enough noise to be lively and fun without being overwhelming or deafening. The kitchen layout is visible to diners and it is always fun to watch how the pizza is made while you wait (but tortorous if you're starving!) The staff is super friendly and attentive from the moment you walk in until they wave you goodbye on the way out. The pizza is OUTSTANDING. They've mastered brick-oven style pizza. The mozzarella and parmesan are always fresh, the sauce is tangy and flavorful, and the crust is TEXTBOOK. As a non-crust eater the majority of the time, I find myself reaching over to my friends plates to do clean-up. Don't overlook any of the apps or calzones either. Things are super filling, however, so I recommend just splitting an order of spinach artichoke dip for the table while you wait for your pizza to arrive. Now being of legal drinking age, I understand why my parents would want a no-kids Grimaldi date time to time. The drinks are great and the bar atmosphere is a blast. I'd recommend checking out their seasonal cocktail specials. Pro-tip: Don't shy away from order a side of vodka sauce with your margherita pizza. Getting the vodka slice just won't hit as good. The last time I went to Grimaldi's was several years ago at the Douglaston location. I recall the novelty of watching them make the pizza in front of you Ambience: this place is a notch above your local pizzeria. The pizzas are made to order (I.e. you can't pick a slice). Food: we ordered Spinach Artichoke Dip - the chips taste like it's fresh from a bag from Costco. The spinach dip however was fresh spinach in melted mozzarella. 3/5 Pizza with bacon and jalapeño - the bacon was shredded bits and the jalapeño was the pickled kind that you get out of a jar. Unfortunately, the sourness from the pickled juices was overpowering and ruined it for me. Using fresh jalapeño would have been better. 3/5 Service - servers were friendly and attentive, however, they forgot a soup we ordered. The pizza was delicious the ingredients were high quality you can tell from how great the cheese pull was just with fresh mozzarella. I took my history lesson and revisited the OG site in DUMBO, now Juliana's (opened by Patsy Grimaldi the original owner) after nearly a decade. I had been quite alright with Grimaldis at the GC location due to the proximity, and convinced myself over the years that it was similar in taste and quality. Sadly I must take back my old review to report that alas, there is no comparison to the mastery of Patsy Grimaldi. Perhaps it is my mind playing tricks on me, but I am convinced the freshness of the ingredients reached a different level at Juliana's. Also the crust at the other Grimaldi's locations lack the same love. It is not quite as thin, crispy, and flavorful. Also their salads were kind of bleh, which was acceptable since the pizza was excellent for LI. I let it slide for all this time. It has a very similar set up as its Brooklyn location so expect it to be loud when people are packed in but even more so with the loud music they play. We ordered the following: 1. garlic bread - standard 12 inch bread with garlic, butter and spices. Nothing special here. 2. meatballs - these were okay, but nothing special. 3. wings - probably the saddest and smallest wings I've ever seen served at a restaurant. One of the wings were1.5 inches long while others slightly larger. The veggies they served with it were withered and black. Texturally, it was like Dominoes. 4. penne a la vodka - not very good. Noodles were almost overcooked and you can tell they just threw the noodles and sauce together separately. 5. caesar salad - this was fine. 6. margherita pizza - it was thin and simple as it should be but something was missing. 7. white pizza - this was fine. 8. maple old fashion - DO NOT GET, absolutely terrible. Overly sweet. 9. regular old fashion - I've had a lot better. Questions their ability to serve mixed drinks. I would stick to beer or wine. Overall, it could have been a lot better as everything was pretty basic. Service was attentive - they did discount us for the blackened vegetables that came with the wing. They also do serve you a service charge if you use credit card, something like 3.5%. The only positive thing is that there's parking in the back. What really bothered me about this experience was the chicken parm hero. It had great flavor, but was a complete and total down. There was maybe, and I'm being generous, 4 ounces of chicken used on it. How can you send a dish out like that? I'm not expecting it to have a pound of chicken, but what was served is shameful. It's been a minute since I've dined at Grimaldi's and tonight, I am reminded why I patron elsewhere. For context, I grew up eating at Grimaldi's with my family and continued supporting them even after Mr. and Mrs. Grimaldi sold their name and recipe to the owner of the current chain. They had a good run for a while but long gone are the fine details that once made Grimaldi's great. For starters, their infamous Cesar salad not only shrunk in size but is no longer served with beautiful wedges of Parmesan. While that could be forgiven, the missing chew of their once fantastic dough and bland tomato sauce is not. The Grimaldi's then once had a crust that could have been eaten as a stand alone dish and tonight, we had left all the crust on our plate. Should I have wanted a commercial crust like Anthony's I would have gone there. The only saving grace to our pie was the pepperoni cups that held up the wet and soggy bland mushrooms. What's even more offensive was their vodka sauce. Besides nailing the color of a vodka sauce there was nothing reminiscent of what a good vodka should be (not for an Italian restaurant anyway). They can really forgo the warning of "contains prosciutto" on the menu - there's truly no need since it's not in the sauce. I guess we should have known that the once famed pizza joint was going down hill when they put Spinach Artichoke dip on their menu. I guess the next time I'm craving Mr. & Mrs. Grimaldi's recipes I'm going to have to drive my to Julianna's in Dumbo. read more

I went here in person for the first time today. Typically I order via Uber eats and they're okay, good but not amazing. I definitely think they're best in person: service was quick and friendly and the pizza was great. I had the pepperoni with extra basil and it was savory with a good amount of sauce. Came here with my buddy, and we're both big pizza eaters and have been to so many good places. We just expected so much more from here. Even just salt would have gone a long way. I've been here numerous times over the years and the food never disappoints. My office comes here a lot for group lunches and we always make sure we get a buffalo chicken pie, sausage pie, pepperoni pie, and a pie with veggies. The calzone dough was tasty but the filling was just a blob of unseasoned ricotta still cold in the middle. The side of sauce was raw, watery and bland. When I asked for marinara I was told this is all we have! I sat at the bar. Pretty sure the owner or manager was sitting next to me drinking wine & whiskey and f-bombing. I'm sure he heard me when I questioned the blandness of well everything I was served but he was much more interested in some hair brained idea to set up an illegal gambling pool as a way to bring in business. I've been meaning to try Grimaldi's for a while since there is a location on LI (never been to the one in Brooklyn). Finally got a chance in November and went with a few friends for dinner. The place was pretty packed out and we got a nice cozy table in the back. Nothing too much to note about the interior; it was pretty standard. We ordered some garlic bread as an appetizer, and got two pies (Buffalo Chicken and Margherita). I actually always include prices in my reviews, but I don't have that info for this review as we split the bill three ways and I didn't get a chance. However, I do remember that I found the meal to be pretty expensive. The garlic bread in particular was a rip off. I forgot how much it was (maybe $6), but it was just two pieces of toasted bread with cheese and marinara. The pizza was pretty good but not great. Something about the pizza didn't feel right; I thought the pizza was going to be thinner and crispier but it was thicker than I expected and it tasted like they made it a few hours ago. It was still good in that the slices had a heavy satisfaction to them, but I don't think it really lived up to what Grimaldi's is supposed to be. The slices didn't taste much different than the regular slices you get from a typical, run of the mill LI slice shop. Service wasn't anything to write home about either. I asked for lemon for my coke a few times but never got it. That's not the biggest deal but overall we just had our orders taken and there was nothing welcoming about the experience whatsoever. Guess I'll attribute it to them being pretty busy that night. So overall I'd give three stars. Pretty satisfying pizza but nothing really noteworthy about the food or experience. Aside from the fact that prices posted on the Grimaldi website are not the prices you are charged when ordering online, I found the Grimaldi pizza terrible. The pies had hardly any sauce and/or cheese with large sections of the pie to be tasteless "red-colored" pie dough. Additionally, spices were noticeably missing from the pizza's red sauce and the pie dough lacked flavor. Finally, instead of the usual pizza boxes, Grimaldi has creatively come up with a large bag for take out pies that don't keep the pies hot until you get home. Very disappointed with my second time ordering from Grimaldis. I ordered a pepperoni pie with HALF being meatballs. Normally people would be happy with extra meatballs but no sorry I don't like meatballs so I had to pluck it off my slices. I requested truffle oil because I had that last time and that the pizza be well done. It hurts me to change from 4 to 2 stars but I was very upset when I saw the whole pie have meatballs, the bottom and crusts BURNT, and NO truffle oil at all. The only good thing about this pie was the taste of the pepperoni which wasn't many but still good. Anyone who's ever gone to a Grimaldi's knows what to expect - fresh hot pies with lots of toppings that taste oh so good. This location has a fair amount of seating and is comfortable to boot. The antipasto and caesar salad were great as was our pies. This location also has the added bonus of having personal size pies for those that just want their own pizza. To my chagrin, they don't offer broccoli as a topping (but I might be the only one who feels this way). Service here was friendly and prompt. Parking is ample. Prices are fair for what you get.
