The chips and salsa here are so very good. The chips are thin and crunchy bt not oily at all (this makes me feel slightly less guilty when I realize I ate 80% of the basket). The chips comes with a tomato salsa and also a creamy jalapeno sauce (I think). I always get the mariachi plate when I come here. The dish comes with two chicken enchiladas, a southwest eggroll, and two beef empanadas. They are all delicious (just trust me). Wow!! I just had the BEST Tres Leches Cake. It is hard to describe how amazing this was. It seems a little pricey for the slice, however you get a good size slice. The whipped creams texture has a sweet cinnamon taste with the texture of a light buttercream whilst remaining airy. The cake was moist and extremely flavorful. The beef fajitas here are good. I've tried the pollo marisco which was tasty. Today, I tried the FISH TACOS (grilled tilapia) because my mom recommended it and the COZUMEL CHICKEN SALAD. We shared the two. The fish was one big filet per taco! Definitely worth $11.19 for the amount of fish compared to some places who hide it under sauce and veggies. Chose black beans which was a little bland actually. The chicken salad $11.19 was humungo and definitely loaded up with not just lettuce. All the toppings were fresh and tasty. I came here with my family on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. I was hoping it wouldn't be crowded, but I was wrong. We waited 30 mins for a table but it was definitely worth it. We started off with ground beef queso and beef empanadas. Both were delicious! For our entree we ordered the fajitas trio for 2 and it was so good! The chicken, beef and shrimp were cooked perfectly and all were very flavorful. I've been coming here for several years now and it always hits the spot. The free soft serve ice cream at the end is a plus. I definitely think this place is one of the best Tex Mex places in the Houston area, which serves good quality food at an affordable price. Now it takes just as long to get the dressing ordered when the salad is ordered. Have to ask multiple times for chips and salsa ( three requests each in the last 4 visits). And now Gringo's seems to be catering to loud intoxicated guests over long time guests. Have left with my ears ringing every visit since June. The bartender was nice but didn't speak English very well. It wasn't real busy but he was at the other end of the bar talking to other staff. I didn't get my 1st margarita until our entrees got there & this has happened to me multiple visits..it's annoying. No doubt that Gringo's has been one of my favorite restaurants. Low prices, sizeable food portions, prompt service, YAY! Besides our staples, Burrito con Queso and Pollo Marisco, which my husband and I love so much and have to order every time, the Veracruz combo and Chicken Cabo Salad that we had last night were very delicious as well. The cabo salad was so huge and could be a meal itself! Margarita on rock was good; the bartender didnt cheap out on the alcohol and poured in a generous amount. This restaurant is a staple for our family dinners. We have been coming for about eight years now and I can honestly say they are getting better with time. The eight years part should tell you something.. There is no reservations needed but they tend to move quickly to get you seated when there is a wait. Expect a wait on holidays or weekends. It's just that good. Know that parties larger than 8 people will get two different tables due to the setup of the establishment. The staff is super friendly. Today we had Emmanuel as our server. He was friendly and attentive. The family favorite is the pollo con queso, mixed fajitas and definitely the nachos cantinas. Can't forget the dips. There is a tomato and green avocado dip for chips. I've been to other Tex mex and even Mexican restaurants but can honestly say this is the best salsa in town. I even use the red salsa for my tacos and nachos. I've seen some complaints about the customers being "ratchet/ghetto" but establishments can't really pick and choose who uses the establishment. I've been a fan of this location since it opened, and it's a family favorite. This isn't cheap Tex-Mex. But probably priced comparably to a Chili's or Applebee's. The perks though are the chips and salsa are great. I love their green sauce which is a little creamier than I would normally go for but has a really nice flavor. I like the mariachi plate. It has a bit of everything, southwestern eggrolls, empanadas with their amazon sauce, etc. This is definitely more food than I've ever been able to finish though. So I usually have a snack for later. If I want to finish my meal I go for the Poco Peso plate, which is two enchiladas, rice and beans. After the meal is over there are complimentary ice cream cones to be had at the front of the restaurant. Always busy, but it never feels like service is sacrificed. read more

DON'T COME HERE THINKING YOU CAN GET SERVICE ON THE PATIO! My mom and I decided to take a break from furniture shopping and go to Gringo's because they have a patio. She's the type to get cold quick and that's why we wanted the patio. When we walked in, she immediately said it's too cold in here. So I went to the hostess stand and said I want two seats out on the patio. She said they don't serve on the patio. Weird. Why have a patio if you aren't going to serve there? I then decided to order our food to go and just take it out there ourselves to eat. When we got outside, I noticed the disarray of tables and lack of chairs but I also noticed a sign on the pole that said to ask the hostess about patio seating. Looks like that is an option but the restaurant doesn't want to put a server out there even though it was a beautiful sunny day with a cool breeze.
