I visted this location on Sunday, July 17 at approximately 5 in the evening. The parking lot was full and my husband was worried we would be waiting hours before being seated, he was wrong. We checked in and was told there was about a 15 minute wait. We sat down and in about 2 minutes our table was ready. Our waitress was awesome , I didn't get her name and misplaced my receipt. She was friendly and checked up on us and kept our drinks full. We ordered appetizers, alcoholic beverages and four entrees. Everthing was delicious ! Well..lets be honest here. Its not real mexican food nor is it the best tex-mex I've ever had. However! the pollo marisco is worth coming back for over and over again. My husband and I are huge fans of Mexican or Tex-Mex food and Gringo's is one of the best around! You MUST try the citrus ice tea! It is the best thing ever. It comes with cut up slices of oranges, lime, cherry and is a must have for those of us who do not drink alcohol. When you sit down you are greeted with complementary tortilla chips (which are usually warm...yum) with salsa and a type of sour cream avocado type of dip similar to goddess dressing but creamier! We love this sauce so much we usually go through two bowls of it! YUM! I usually order their beef fajitas. The beef is oh so tender and they give you a bunch for not too much (around $12). It comes with the usual sides and fills you up, of course after a TON of chips! My husband gets one of their combo platters (Plato Tia-Juana I think) which comes with the usual sides, a beef fajita, tamale, beef enchilada and cheese enchilada for around $10! The one downside is the place is usually pretty busy on weekend nights so expect to wait around 10-20 minutes to be seated. The staff is friendly and attentive to your needs, my husband and I are Muslim so we don't eat pork and they are more than willing to substitute something else for us. It was better than average.the choices were standard stuff. The standout was their avocado cream dip they bring out with the salsa. Our server was Jason and he was cute and friendly. It had a very lively atmosphere. We had fun, and enjoyed our meal. The only complaint I have is that the hostesses were extremely blasé. They looked like it was an imposition to be there. I visited Gringos off 59 today on a saturday around 530pm very busy but was seated within 10 mins. Service was very good and fast the citrus tea a definite must with your meal and the seafood enchiladas are now my favorite item it comes served with your choice of beans and yellow rice with fresh sliced avacado and pico de Gallo they keep the chips coming so its hard to finish your entire meal without asking for a take out box.. Last night I came here with a couple of people and it was nice. I'm not surprised though because it usually is. Nice food and the drinks are awesome. We sat in the bar area so you know it was pretty busy for on a Friday evening. We didn't sit at the bar, but at one of those small high top tables. I had a take out beef fajita and an order of queso dip. Total cost $21.95 What a rip off. If there is one dollar worth of food product here I'll be amazed. See the picture. The dip was the color of processed Kraft singles but in liquid form and about 4.5 oz There was 10 X 4 inch strips of dry chewy beef. Nothing special. No doubt bought in bulk from grocers/restaurant supply as it lacked any flavor. If this had been made on premises from scratch there would have been some juice. About the same amount of onion. 3 flour tortillas. I wanted to ask for more but thought better of it for fear of being turned down, so was rather sarcastic instead. You can see from the photo there was a small assortment of filler such as probably 2oz rice, 1/2 (half) oz shredded cheese, 1/4 an avocado, 1/2 (half) oz tomato/onion salsa. A medium bag of chips obviously bought from a restaurant supply company with 1/2 (half) oz each of a red sauce and a green sauce. I can't imagine anything here was made on the premises. Oh and 4oz bean sauce which was probably made on site. This food was worth $12 at most at restaurant prices, although one gets more product for half this at Taco Bell. One can only imagine the owner of this restaurant having a good laugh at what we are prepared to accept. There is such a need for a reasonably priced Mexican restaurant in this area. read more

Gringo's falls into one of three categories depending on who you are. 1. Great Mexican food 2. OK Food 3. Meh food I do not fall into the first category. First of all unless you have no grasp of Spanish and Spanish slang, a gringo is a derogatory term for an ignorant white/American. So the name is a turn off. Atmosphere is good and it is clean. Except for odd hours it is usually busy. This also means that the noise level is high. It's not easy to have a quiet table conversation when you are competing with the music and all the customers. Service has always been good. But on none of my visits has a server stood out as being exceptional or personable. Food is good and consistent. I particularly like the Summer Special. I have said before that with the million Mexican restaurants in Houston, you have to stand out. Gringo's just does not stand out. There are no unique dishes or plates. If you have a friend visiting from Wisconsin and they are not accustomed to spicy foods then this would be a safe bet. read more

Some of the entrees were carne guisada, el capitan, and the chicken diablo. Appetizers were queso mixed with guacamole and some other things. Out of this world! The drinks were all good, too. Three Suave Agaves, one drink that somehow balanced an entire (small) bottle of champagne, and two Cactus juices.
