Parish, is very sparse for restaurants.......without a whole lot to choose from but we stopped in to try.... The Grist Mill is a diner style restaurant with a very spacious eating area, and a large menu, Breakfast is served all day. We went with safe choices. Food was average did not seem fresh, decided not to try the multiple pies after being told they were not made on premise. Bummer!!!!

We decided to check this place out as we cruised south in I-81. It had good Yelp and Google reviews and the pictures looked attractive. It was a bleachy-clean smell that welcomed us. COVID-19 precautions in full effect. As we walked in, the pictures in our mind were realized. It's a very wam, rustic lodge feel to it. I commented to my wife how it could be like a Hallmark movie where the people are stranded inside as a lake effect blizzard piles up outside and be comfy and cozy. I asked the server the standard question, "If this is my one and only visit ever, what should I get?" She pointed me to the Big Western BBQ Burger; a half-pound bacon burger with BBQ sauce and onion rings. It sounded amazing. Although "comes with pickle and chips" was a little disappointing. I paid the $2.98 up charge for a side of onion rings. My wife did a bacon burger and likewise upgraded to French fries, which weren't worth the upcharge. It's hard to say if they were overcooked or just inferior quality product, but the fries disappointed. She picked off my onion rings which were great. Overall, we were pleased with our visit. Yummy coffee! One last comment for the gentleman in the kitchen, your mask is worthless if you're not covering your nose. "Over the Nose is How It Goes!" Moat of the potential virus load is in the nose.

Always good food, Always good service. Been eating there many years and cant remember ever having a bad experience. Food, prices, service...... its all good!!!!!

    Not breakfast

Gross. Fried scrambled eggs, undercooked potatoes. Get a new cook, not sure how you can ruin breakfast this badly.

    Buttered meat

Great service. Food left a lot to be desired. Better off with tv dinner Old bitty was very polite though

    Inside very pretty

Nice little restaurant just off 81 in Parish NY. Very cute and comfortable inside, service was fast. Food was good.

Twist. Size small. This really might be the best ice cream cone I've had in my life -- just look at it. Decent prices too!

I've been to this place twice now and that's more than enough. The food is subpar and not good at all! I will not be back.

Best food between Syracuse and Canada on 81. Pleasant atmosphere - big screen TV's and nice staff. Great spot for blizzards!

Seemingly in the middle of rural upstate NY is this gem of a restaurant. The server and everyone on the staff that interacted with us were simply lovely! Kind, helpful and joyful. I ordered a turkey melt with onion rings, and my friend had a burger with fried which she claimed was one of the best she had eaten in a long time. Accompanied by "sassy sauce" our fries and onion rings were dipped in this delightful yet spicy accoutrement! My turkey melt was delicious- carved turkey- not slimy cold cuts, cheese and banana peppers were a perfect and delectable combination on lightly toasted bread- simply marvelous! For desert- and they are all lovingly homemade, I had a mixed berry pie with ice cream and my friend had a slice of Dutch apple pie! Both equally and fabulously delicious! We left stuffed to the gills and so glad that we turned the truck around to try this hidden gem! Don't pass it up- stop by- it's worth it!

On our first visit, my 87-year-old father casually mentioned that he hadn't known the place existed. The owner responded by yelling at him about how long the business has been open and listing other places she owns, leaving him feeling embarrassed and ignorant. The final straw happened during my most recent visit. I flew in from Las Vegas and wanted to take my parents, both in their 80s, to get sandwiches. Standing for long periods is difficult for them, so they sat briefly in the dining area while I ordered. They were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. They were immediately yelled at and told they could not sit there unless they ordered from the dinner menu. My father politely explained that we were ordering sandwiches and that his daughter had just flown in. The owner said it didn't matter--if we weren't ordering off the dinner menu, we had to leave. As a result, we were forced to eat in our car in the middle of winter. Great food does not excuse disrespectful, unkind treatment--especially toward elderly customers. The lack of compassion was shocking, and I will not return.
