So so disappointed. Portions have downsized. Obviously they went from 3 pieces of fish to 2 pieces; they cut 2 piece in half and make it "3 pieces" and send it out the door. Will start strong by saying the appetizers were delicious, the service was wonderful (so attentive and offered great recommendations) and the place itself is super cute and trendy for sure. They offer a great drink selection too, though I can't say we tried any this time. The food was okay- not sure if it was just what we chose, but will say we would definitely go back and try other options. Overall it's a fun spot with great service and the prices were decent. Just got back from another fantastic visit at Grit 2C. We were greeted and seated in the bar, which honestly, I wasn't too happy about. We were a party of four and the dining area was open. I'm assuming it was due to lack of staff. I quickly found out that the bartender was our server and despite having almost a full bar to contend with, our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Rockfish Tacos for the first time, chili oil on the side with their fabulous house salad. Hubby had the fish and chips and our friend had the bacon jam grilled cheese. Food took a little while to come out, but everything was hot and looked delectable. The tacos were perfectly stuffed with seasoned, marinated chunks of rockfish, soft and tender inside, slathered with a creamy avocado crema and coleslaw. I did put the chili oil on separately, to change up my spicy quotation on each bite...highly recommend. Each taco was so incredibly tender, with this flavor-induced ravenous hunger that explodes within your soul after the first bite. I just remember looking down at my plate, then up again, only to find an empty plate. I barely remember anything in between, other than the incredible flavors. The house salad was delightfully light, with the same herbaceous ranch and perfectly diced veggies and crunchies. Just spectacular. I could eat this dish over and over again. Friend shared a bite of the bacon jam grilled cheese and though delicious, not my speed. I will say that the bread was fluffy, yet perfectly toasted, each cranny had pan fried butter nestled inside. A friend recommended Grit2C as a good dinner meet up spot and wow, so glad I said yes! We were greeted by friendly smiles and conversation from the staff, and led back to the dining area- which was blessedly cool on this hot day. Meal and drink order was taken quickly and drinks arrived fast. We were all feeling like something a little light so we went for salads and THAT was a great choice. The presentation was beautiful, the produce was clearly farm fresh, and the taste combos were amazing. My spring salad was SO GOOD, and came with delicious charred sourdough. I can't recommend this enough! My daughter said that her farro salad was the best salad she's ever had- they were kind enough to swap feta for blue cheese at her request. This place has such good food. Had multiple apps that were excellent and my son had a burger, we had a pizza and a sandwich and it's all good there for sure. Definitely will go back plus that area of Caldwell is all cool to walk by. What a find! Locals brought us here and I'm so glad that they did! Menu is great, as it was hard to choose between a few items, but I eventually had the Farro salad (not before looking up exactly what was farro though). So if the internet is correct, right, farro is a grain better known as wheat. I have a long history with wheat, starting out on my family's farm in the back of the wheat truck, later driving that wheat truck, and then graduating to better things... however, the family wheat farm is still there producing wheat. I do visit it but try to stay out of the back of the wheat trucks. Once upon a time, I purchased a yogurt that had wheat in it. It was pretty tasty just like this salad minus the yogurt. This salad has incredible cheese crumbles and kale and a few other nicely added ingredients. Don't think of it as a salad but a meal. I'm not sure why wheat gets a bad wrap but I think it has to do with gluten allergies. I could definitely be wrong on that point since I'm definitely not allergic to wheat. Would I have this again? Absolutely. Wouldn't even look at other menu items! I did order the ginger cider that was on draft according to our waitress. When it was delivered, it was a grapefruit lime cider. No thank you! Take that back. Unfortunately, I then had to opt for a can (shudder) of peach cider which was fine. read more

Every dish I have ordered has an incredible amount of flavor, it's as if the chef creates magic with every bite. He must know Dumbledore personally. The staff are attentive, personable, and friendly. You absolutely must try the Pad Thai, Pasta Primavera (with steak), ceviche (best I've ever had) or the Bacon Jam sandwich. Actually, anything you order will be amazing. We come every year for my moms birthday and tonight i noticed it just looks janky. Some might say im being nit picky but I'm also a business owner and id want to know this sort of thing for my business. When you walk in i noticed all the light fixtures are filthy. The 2 chandeliers have so many cobwebs on them that i wondered if it was left over Halloween decorations. They also have mismatched bulbs. Additionally all the exposed air ductwork is also filthy. My mom turned 82 today and has compromised pulmonary issues and when i saw all this the first thing that ran through my mind is I hope she's not gonna inhale all that stuff and have a rough day tomorrow breathing. Again, admittedly, yes, I am being picky but when I take 12 people out to dinner and drop a couple hundred dollars doing such, I want the place to be sharp and on point. The service is and always has been. But the place is looking a little rough. A few guys, a few ladders and a few hours will make a lot of difference. read more

When we got to Grit 2C we saw people waiting and were prepared to have a long wait, but they called us quicker than the originally 30min wait, so that was a great start! The staff was all really nice and friendly. The food was explosions of flavor! so good! It was definitely worth the drive here. We will be back! I had the rockfish tacos and they warned me they were spicy, and yes they had a kick! My mouth is very warm still... but SO good! And the draft root beer was full of flavor - more like a saspirilla. This place is so good. Even though it's quite the drive for me from Boise, it's one of my go-to's for delicious brunch and I always recommend it to my friends and family. All their menu items are very thoughtfully crafted. There really is something for everyone here! My favorite dish is the Spicy Thai Rice Bowl (thai sauce, white rice, radishes, carrots, daikon, crispy jalapenos, fresh cilantro, avocado, mint, cashews, lime) with chicken. There's a lot going on here, and everything mixes so well together. Each bite is a new experience! The crispy jalapenos are my favorite part. I don't find them very spicy, however I have a very high tolerance for spicy food. Another dish I frequently order is the Farro Salad. Not only does it taste amazing, but it's very unique. Again, there's a lot of ingredients that all go together deliciously. The farro is always cooked perfectly, and I love the addition of pomegranates. The kitchen is very accommodating in that you can easily substitute ingredients - I hate blue cheese, which is usually on this salad but I always sub feta. The balsamic vinaigrette is heavenly. As great as these dishes are, if you're dining for the first time I can't recommend the Bacon Jam Grilled Cheese enough! Someone in my group always gets this. It's delicious x 100. Called ahead to make sure casual attire was OK and it absolutely is. We are on the 16th day of a trip that has taken us from South Carolina across the country. We both got the C2 burger with fries and fry sauce and damn. It was incredible. A TON of bacon and great beef-crispy onions on the top were icing on the burger. Christian, our waiter did a great job. Super attentive, but not overbearing. We sat in the bar. The bartender was hustling as well. Didn't see a non-welcoming face. We're definitely coming back here. Five of us decided to do dinner prior to taking in the wonderful Christmas light displays and shops at Indian Creek. Our first choice for dinner was really Janitzio's Mexican Restaurant - we were surprised that it was not open on Saturday (really closed on a Saturday?). Lo and behold we looked across the street and down the block just a bit and we saw that Grit 2 C was open for business. In retrospect, this really worked to our benefit. We walked in a slight drizzle to Grit 2 C. We were early enough to precede the dinner crowd and were seated right away. Really liked the vibe in this building, structurally vintage while at the same time modern (lighting, etc.). There is a mix of tables, booth/table combos, bar seating, high-top seating. Deceivingly large inside. Our server, "Valoree" (yes the correct spelling) was a treat. She was very personable, knowledgable on their menu, and checked on our table throughout our visit. You can tell that she really enjoyed working here. Drink & menu orders were taken promptly. The sound level inside while noticeable was not so loud as to disrupt any talking between the five of us. It (the talking among other groups) was rather pleasant and added a vibrancy to the meal. The special for the evening was a classic preparation of beef stroganoff (one of our party ordered it and said it was excellent). I included one somewhat blurry picture in this review of that specific dish. My wife ordered the "Chicken Alfredo" - Pappardelle Noodles, Bacon Bits, Alfredo Sauce, Parmesan, Green Onions, with Grilled Chicken and a Charred Baguette (pictured). I went with the "Grit Dip" sandwich - Smoked Angus Beef, Pepper Relish Jam, Cheddar Cheese, Black Pepper Sauce, Crispy Onions on a Baguette with Chipotle Bacon Au Jus (also pictured). Both of our dishes held generous portions, could have easily taken half my sandwich home (fat chance!). I don't really lean to "dip" sandwiches, but the "smoked angus" along with a "chipotle bacon au jus" had me intrigued. I was not disappointed. I coupled the sandwich with the regular fries. If there was a disappointment, it was only with the fry sauce - I think I expected something more akin to the fry sauce at Bodacious Pig. It was fine really, but nothing exciting. The sandwich was really tasty - the pepper relish jam was surprisingly noticeable and appreciated. The "dip" which I normally associated as a clearer liquid (ala French dip), was in my opinion heartier in appearance - not clear, but nearly opaque - the chipotle bacon au jus was enjoyed very much. The chicken alfredo (I got to taste it) was everything it said it would be in the menu - a strong, thick alfredo sauce, bacon bits that were closer to small chunks rather than bits (and quite flavorful). The charred baguette was a nice touch as well. We were so pleased and thankful for the "misfortune" of Janitzio's being closed on Saturday -- since it led us right into such a great food find. There are several things we spied in the Grit 2 C menu that will have us returning for sure. Hopefully "Val" will again be our server. She was truly great. Overall, I would have rated this a 4.5, but again, rather than drop to a 4 (underrating), I have bumped it to a 5. read more

The main plot may be the chickpea battered cauliflower & butternut squash but hang on to your butts for the flavor explosion with the addition of cilantro cashew chutney on the side. My wife & I shared the Grit Dip staring seared black angus beef but the supporting cast of pepper relish, black pepper sauce and crispy onions stole the spotlight in this dish. On Friday night before Christmas we put our name on the hour long wait list and walked around and looked at the lights. All I have to say is we will be dining here again. The hostess that greeted us was so smiley and personable- then our server Valoree- was absolutely the best. She was positive and bubbly and took good care of us. Now... the food... we were a party of 4 and we all enjoyed our food. The fries that came with the cheeseburger were crispy and piping hot. The garden salad was dark leafy greens.
