My husband and I , have driven past this hand fulls of times over the last 3 years! We finally this past Saturday afternoon went here because we were in the area for alittle bit....I tell ya 10/10!! The staff was so friendly, place is super unique and cute when you walk in you can go to the left in that door and it's tables and chairs only and then go to your right ...in the door and it's tables , chairs and booths! Same restaurant!! The service was so awesome the food and hot delicious!!! Great size portions. A favorite dish of my husband's is a corn beef hash....IT WAS A 10!! The meat was super tender...he just loved it! I had Idaho omelette with pancakes YUM!!! We now know we can share something! However, if you don't wanna share then bring your appetite lol. We are happy customers we will be back to try all kinds of other meals and there's amazing looking desserts. I was excited to finally try Mr. V's Family Restaurant, especially after hearing about their famous cinnamon rolls. When we arrived around 1:30 p.m., a young gentleman greeted us and let us know they close at 2:00 p.m. before seating us. Unfortunately, they had already sold out of the cinnamon rolls. There appear to be two dining rooms, so I'm not sure if only our side was closing or if the entire restaurant closes then. The food was good overall, but it wasn't seasoned much at all. I found their house seasoning blend on the table just as I was finishing my meal. I wish I'd noticed it sooner because I think it would have made a big difference. Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food came out quickly. The restaurant has a cozy, family-owned feel with lots of charming decorations, heartwarming quotes, and family photos throughout the dining room. One of my favorites was the sign that read, "I Love You Like Biscuits and Gravy." It was such a cute touch that perfectly fit the warm, cozy atmosphere. If I'm in the area again, I'll call ahead to see if they have cinnamon rolls before making the trip. read more

My wife was feeling like comfort food, and I brought us here for the first time today based on the reviews. We came about 2 pm and the place was not crowded. The sign said to seat ourselves so we grabbed a booth. A young woman came over immediately and brought us menus and water. Inside is very homey and family friendly. There are booth along the sides and back of the restaurant and tables for four as well as bigger round tables that would seat 7-8. Next to us was a young family of five kids and the wife was pregnant. We then sat for longer than we should. Finally, our server, Julia B, came over. She was very friendly and nice. She took our order: my wife wanted the Salisbury steak and I had the Pacific Omelet with hashbrowns and pancakes. My first clue that things were not as they should be was when Julia asked my wife how she wanted her Salisbury steak cooked. Hmmm. The food took longer than it should to come out, but that was OK because we were in no hurry. When it did come out, my wife and I both looked at the "Salisbury Steak" and realized that, in fact, it was not what it was supposed to be. Instead, it was an actual steak. On the other hand, my omelet, with bacon crumbles and Swiss cheese, was good, my hashbrowns were extra crispy as I asked for, and the pancakes, which the cook forgot to make but that came out pretty quickly anyway, were pretty good. My wife ordered one of their giant cinnamon buns to go. We didn't see Julia for a time, and so my wife flagged down another server and asked if what she had was Salisbury steak. As expected the server said no. Julia came over shortly after. I said, "My wife ordered the Salisbury steak." Julia said, "Yes?". I said, "That's not Salisbury steak." She then realized her mistake and apologized repeatedly. What my wife received was the Iron Skillet Steak. Not sure about the misunderstanding. Julia offered to make the Salisbury steak to go, but my wife, being very nice and considerate, told her she'd be OK with the Iron Skillet Steak. Julia then comped the cinnamon bun, which I appreciated. She was trying to make things right. And again, she was very nice. We think we will give Mr. V's another chance at sometime in the future. read more

I'm originally from Oregon and this is Idahos version of Jake's dinner. Classic truck stop but mediocre food. Good prices but you get what you paid for, large portions though. I had the Biscuits and Gravy and the biscuits tasted more cake-y than biscuit-y. Also the gravy was probably from a large batch because I found a large part of the gravy that had yet to liquify and I thought it was plastic at first. Still ate it though. Bathrooms nice. Came here with friends. Kids and adults all enjoyed our meals. I had the chicken fried steak and since the gravy was under the meat, it stayed crunchy. The baked potato was perfectly cooked and fully loaded. The gravy was pretty good. The fried chicken is boneless, so it's easy to eat. We also tried the biscuits, but they were just okay, The pies, however, are homemade and really delicious. I recommend the coconut cream. Forgot to take a pic because it didn't last long. read more

Finally got to try this adorable family restaurant today, and honestly, 5/5 no questions. We didn't know it was seat yourself since it was our first time there, but the server was so sweet and she addressed us right away and brought us menus and took our drink order- it was around 11 on a Tuesday and they were busy the whole time! She came back quickly and made some great recommendations and took our order. We typically always try a cinnamon roll (if they have it) and pancakes- my son ordered the chicken fried steak, which he really enjoyed- and I ordered the Idaho omelet, which was huge, and delicious. The cinnamon roll alone was worth the visit- and the pancakes were good too. The place itself is super cute diner vibes, and is split into two areas for seating. Honestly, this felt like visiting a friend- tons of regulars and the server was amazing knowing orders, names and keeping up on life. She really was fantastic, and made the whole experience that much better. We will definitely be going back, trying other yummy items and telling others about it. I've been hearing about Mr V's for quite a while as several people I know love this place...so I jumped at the chance to check it out. The parking lot was packed, as was the restaurant. It was a tad confusing as there is two entrances; seasoned vets know that you go to the right first as the other room is for overflow seating. Luckily they had one table left that we were seated at immediately after clearing. Everyone was incredibly accommodating to get us seated and started...but with the packed house, service was understandably slow paced, drink refills were nonexistent and food took a while to come out. The place hasn't been updated in a bit, but it's clean and comfy. Ordered the crispy chicken burger. The lettuce, tomato and pickles were quite fresh and the bun was soft. The chicken patty was super thin and dry, the Swiss cheese and the jalapeño ranch were barely detectable. Server luckily brought fry sauce and ranch for me to dip my fries in as the fry sauce was only so-so. Fries tasted great but some were cooked perfectly and some were a tad undercooked. My friend ordered the Chinese chicken salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall it was a nice place to visit as long as the expectation isn't to be dazzled. read more

Mr. V's is a great place to eat in Caldwell, Idaho, just off the I-84 freeway. We first went there on Mother's Day. Was seated quickly. They had tons of staff ready to serve you (lots of youth). Orders were taken quickly and the serve team insured our drinks were filled and needs met. The food was fresh and hot! We went back a second time shortly afterwards and were totally satisfied. Walked in with our baby in the car seat. We hadn't even sat down or put the baby down yet and the waitress asked for our drink order. Didn't ask if we needed a high chair or a sling for the car seat. My husband asked if there was a changing table in the men's room, and she said there isn't one in either restroom. This is a local favorite spot for classic diner food, and if you want something reasonably priced and a good sized portion, this is the place for you! Maybe we chose a bad day, maybe we just have higher expectations but I really don't get why this is a local standard/favorite. It's a cute local spot, with pretty good service, but that's not enough to make up for bad food. My eggs were rubbery, had no seasoning and were, well, cold. Husband's chicken fried steak was "ok" but not worth coming back for. Breakfast/Brunch options are plentiful in the valley and while being open Sunday's is a perk- I won't be coming back to this one. I've had this restaurant bookmarked for a while now, but I don't get to Caldwell very often. I had an appointment nearby and took the chance to check it out for lunch. Strange layout upon entering and no signage explaining where to go, unless you need the bathrooms because that's the first area you'll see. To the left is a smaller coffee shop type set up with mostly table and chairs for 2 or 4. To the right is "another side" with more tables and chairs but also booths along 3 walls, there was a sign to seat yourself. The place was busy and the few open tables had not been cleaned yet, so I stood there alone by myself. Finally, a young lady asked if I was waiting for the rest of my group to which I replied, No, I'm lunching solo. She asked where I would like to sit and I picked the closest booth which she then had someone clean. Perhaps maybe short staffed, but all the other open tables remained uncleared. Learned the other side of the restaurant operates separately but together, I'm guessing they share one kitchen. Strange layout for a restaurant, I have to believe long ago there was a reason for this separation, maybe smoking or non smoking back in the day? Dining solo, I was hoping this would be a quick stop for a bite, and the older lady was quick to take my order. Since I ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad, it did arrive quickly. I was surprised how large the salad was. I'm not a big eater, but it was a big salad for the price. I'm glad I asked for the dressing on the side, since now I would be taking half home. What I was impressed with was the amount of grilled chicken and how moist it was. The "fresh greens" did look to have come from bagged salad, but it was crisp and I didn't feel the need to look for bad pieces. I believe this is why carrots are in the description, but in my serving there were like 2. This salad was good and satisfying, but probably the most basic when it comes to ingredients. I would have loved to have had some diced green onions and maybe some cilantro. Just as I was taking what would have to be my last bite, my server came over with my check explaining there was no rush. I laughed and told her that's all I could eat anyway and could I please have a box for the remaining salad. I did not take any salad dressing with me, although it was good, I had better at home. Later that day, I ate the rest of the salad at home after adding in my own celery, green onions, cilantro, dried cranberries and my own dressing. It was even better the 2nd time. Overall, this was a great, fast, solo lunch for me at a fair price. Service was a little dry, but still good. I wasn't looking for conversation really. I'm happy to go back and try some other menu items. I'll have to see what other reviewers have enjoyed. I'm chuckling now as I'm about to post this review, this has got to be my lengthiest review yet and it is about a salad! read more

Hubby and I were looking for a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner for St.Patty's day; Mr. V's was recommended on another app, we decided to give it a try! It was " seat yourself", which means that you might not get noticed right away, but a very pleasant young man came immediately to give us menus and to take our drink order, which was then delivered promptly. Our pleasant young waiter came and took our order, which was, of course, corned beef and cabbage. Our order was out in about 5 minutes tops, hot and looking quite delicious. The serving size was generous, and the corned beef was tender and flavorful (not always an easy thing to accomplish in my 40+ years of cooking experience!); the cabbage, carrots and red potatoes were done to perfection. Hubby and I shared a hot blueberry cobbler with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream on top, a nice finish to a very lovely meal. The place had a quirky charm; it was not fancy, yet was very clean and neat. (I especially loved the 70's era music that played in the background- a nice retro touch for the restaurant itself which opened in the 70's I guess that makes me "retro", haha...well, " vintage" for sure ) I took a peek at the breakfast menu; we will for sure be back for some of those homemade cinnamon rolls! I was looking for English style fish and chips, which these are not, but surprisingly tasty, perfect crunch, moist and fresh. The food was great! Fish was marvelous, crunchy and moist with a nice breading. Shrimp half grilled, half fried, was wonderful, and enjoyed the grilled more! Clam strips, good.
