I work near this grocery outlet and I loved it at first because of the convenience of the distance and the prices. The Hispanic lady at the register with glasses always treated me right whenever I would stop to pick up breakfast or lunch, but today I tried to do the same only to be harassed by a man when I was trying to pick up an item he stood on my way with his arms up like he was ready to tackle me only for him to say that couldn't have my backpack inside. I use my backpack to move around since I don't have a car but I have no issue with that rule but AT LEAST LEAVE A SIGN AT THE DOOR AND DONT HARASS PEOPLE! Not just do I feel discriminated but that man was so close to me that it triggered my anxiety because I've been assaulted before and it's hard to control my emotions especially before work. Mostly a nice place. Many nice people working there..but also very hard to find things and many things run out but a new lot can't be found cheaply. Like any place in the backwater of the world-Gilroy-it's full of greedy, money hungry people who want only a paycheck. This location is smaller than some like downtown San Jose and Santa Teresa but the items are reasonably easy to find. no bums hanging in front of the store like DTSJ, so that is a plus. A lot of the same items are there, like the Rumiano jack cheese and the feta cheeses. There was Ripple pea milk for 99 cents so that was good.The store was clean; seemed to have fewer employees but they were getting the job done. Last year I got an heirloom tomato plant there which came from a local farm, so the place can be good for home gardeners. read more

My experience in this store was so stupid. I've come here for years and today I just felt like going in to see what nail care snd beauty products they might have before I went elsewhere. I literally only walked around 2 aisles just looking after I couldn't find what I wanted because they didnt have it. I love finding random finds here. Well today I guess they thought I was trying to steal. I noticed one of their employees was watching me. So what a person can't come in after a long day at work to look. He eventually went and waited outside the doors. I looked through the 1st aisle one last time and got so uncomfortable by him watching me I just left. I barely step out and he only stops me to ask if I needed help looking for something. Never have I ever been asked if i needed help looking for something in that store. Look I've worked in retail most of my life and I know what that means. I said no you dont have what I was looking for and left. He watched me go to my car and get in it. Then he turned and went inside. I get you have theft and it sucks. But I came in to look and get stuff at a cheaper price. I have a great job. I can pay for my things and don't need to steal. I don't think I'll be going back in there anytime soon. I felt racially profiled by this gentleman and their employees over this. I guess young brown girls can't walk around a store. read more

We needed some stuff and we were not sure ours would be open by the time we got home so we ducked into this one. As noted in our previous review "Grocery Outlet has a bit of a treasure hunt element to it. There are items that are obviously surplus from one distributor or another. They are typically much cheaper than you would find elsewhere and once they are gone, they are gone. We typically hit them periodically to see if there is anything we want then move on to our other preferred grocery stores. You also need to be flexible. You never know what is is is not going to be there. " This particular store was middle sized but it was pretty packed and had a decent selection of items. I gave a 5 star review months ago. If there was a option for 6 stars I would. New items and a revamped upgraded interior has enhanced the shopping experience. It's not my go to for everything, but niche items are available and quality finds. Plus most importantly, the personal sure seems to enjoy working there. Hence helpful for the customers. read more

Majority of the cashiers are kind and fast with getting you out the door. The owners need some etiquette w/ ALL customers not just CERTAIN folks. The male owner won't talk to you and make you bag your groceries if you're a person of color. If you're not, they will greet you and talk to you for days! I miss the old owners but hope things change for the better. read more

Love the prices. Every once in a while I get a surprise item and I feel like - SCORE! I tend to get specialty cheeses/meats and I've never had any issues. The vegetables are usually great. Some of the great surprise items are usually in the health and beauty section, but I always find nice frozen foods. I have been frequenting the Los Banos location for the past year and recently moved to gilroy....i know the Los banos store is new...but dang when was the last time you guys just looked at the way you display the plants in the front of the store...right in front of the sidewalk ramp... so everyone just piles up in front of those darn flowers they don't move out of the way...just seems goofy and careless to put it right there...and the stocking of store is chaotic... but customer service is awesome cheers y'all. read more

This location is smaller in comparison to other Grocery Outlet locations, that I have been to. However, they do have amazing low prices, large wine, organic, and vitamin sections. Their dairy prices are impressive and everyone who shops there must think so too! That section is always empty. My favorite sections are the cheese, ice cream, and coffee. Came in to look for something and didn't find it. the tall white man had some type of accent, followed us inside and as we left followed us outside. Super hostile about it. You could have just asked us what we needed inside the store instead of just watching us. Felt like he thought we were going to steal or something just by the way he came at us outside. While I was being checked out at the register the two women cashiers started talking about their personal views on politics. They were making very negative comments and it was awkward & inappropriate . I tried to bite my tongue but just felt compelled to chime in & say" Do you think costumers feel uncomfortable when employees discuss their views on politics or religion"? I've only been to the grocery outlet in San Jose and here. Both had friendly staff and a wide inventory of coffee drinks, though I found a better selection of caffeinated beverages in south San Jose. This GO is located in a sketch part of town so if that bothers you, I'd suggest hitting up this place before sundown. Parking is fairly easy during daytime before 5pm when traffic in that area is busier. read more

The only place besides walmart and smart and final that i like. I like to get chicken and my meats here. The brands are limited but still have good prices. Vitamins and hygiene products are surprisingly cheap as well. Private parking lot which is nice. Next to wendys which is a plus. The clerks here are super nice and helpful. Ice cream sold by the tub only and btw the bread and chips get pricy here so just a heads up. The hours on yelp are accurate but the phone number is not. read more

Had the worst experience ever stood in line with my items got to the register was rang up and ask paper or plastic I asked for paper because I have little to no space in my pantry and like the fact that I can fold my bags .I ask the cashier to not over load the bags because I have to climb stairs she said ok but started over loading bags . So my grandson started grabbing bags and the bag tore and handle brick I said can you give me a new bag She then said that's why you should pay for plastic I looked and said it was not the paying the price for the bag andI said it's my preference she then said well there going to break I said I do not think it was appropriate for her to refuse bags or assume I could not afford bags have never been treated so rudely maybe someone needs to be retrained management really needs to review that person read more

This location is always neat/clean, even when re-stocking items, they treat the customers respectfully by moving their large shipment carts out of your way when possible and with a SMILE!! (Unheard of in many big chain stores!) The staff members are always helpful & friendly. Cashiers are polite and efficient (Cashier Rose is an asset to this store. She once sent an employee to search high and low for kitchen gloves for me, even after I said "oh no worries". She does not want any customer to have an unfulfilled experience!) They a great variety for a smaller Grocery-Outlet sized store. I always find specialty items I need along with regular choices too: Vegan "cheeses", "yogurts", nut/grain-based "milks". Gluten-free items and frozen meals,vegan/vegetarian, gluten and/or dairy-free as well as nut-free items. Good range of healthy snacks, protein-bars, cookies, chips, crackers, ice-creams in regular and "special diet " type choices too! My fave gourmet coffee beans as well as regular choices. Gluten free breaded frozen fish is often there, as well as G/F breads, fresh muffins, cereals, flours, baking items. Something for everyone in this store! I went to this store in Oregon originally and was amazed. Then found out there was one in Gilroy! You never know what you will find. I have found higher end hair products, Starbucks coffee, organic goods and some fun cheeses as well as all sorts of random things such as watermelon water, cheese crisps, Lara and quest bars and discontinued seasonal products. Make sure you check the expiration dates. Lots of organic, Vegan and gluten free options as well. My advice is if you find something you like STOCK UP. Awesome place! I've been going here since they opened at this location a few years or so back, and there's always tons of deals _if_ you know what to look for. Milk is often cheaper than pretty much everywhere else, even Costco. There's cheap ice cream, sometimes even Ben and Jerry's. There's a rotating variety of wines with many options under $5 (little sad that they're not carrying Buckley's Cove anymore though). There's sometimes good deals on meat, canned fish, fruit, and even non-food items. Check it out if you're in the area and know your price points, and you won't be disappointed. read more

Although prices are great, their RETURNN POLICY is terrible and also questionable. In June I bought a chair as a gift for my wife. Unfortunately she had to go out of state for her father's emergency heart operation, and unfortunately he passed away. By the time I gave her the chair, which she did not like, ~55 days had passed by when we tried to return it. We were told the policy is 30 days. Given the circumstance the manager offered ONLY 50% of the price to return it, and would not give me full credit. She also called the owners whom agreed. Where is the 30 day policy stated? NOPE, it is not on the receipt, it is only on a piece of paper hanging in front of the clerks, and not visible to the customer unless it is taken off of the wall which she did to show me. Our fav premium brand yogurts in the 50 cent range, Horizon organic milk for a song, cool prices on fancy soap, breakfast-style link maple sausages, weekly deals (BOGOF EVOO last week !) took me a while to figure out that stands for extra virgin olive oil :-) A tall bottle of toasted sesame oil for $7 (Asian stores got competition!) if we had more freezer space, I'd be in trouble here. I came in for 2 things, and $60 later.... I'm not complaining, just saying the deals are good on quality stuff. read more

This place has great deals but you need to check expiration dates. They have low prices because they buy stuff manufacturers are wanting to unload. That means lots of what they sell is close to or even after sell by dates. I have been shopping here since they opened and have never had a bad experience. Are you kidding me?!? This place is for me! I have 4 men who eat anyything and everything. I don't have to worry about close expiration dates because these guys will eat it before it expires. Great place for last minute BBQ's look for hot dogs, buns chips beer wine sodas they've got it. This is NOT a regular grocery store . It's a store where you will find discontinued items for Amazing prices. Check the labels and compare the prices. You'll come back again and again. Been shopping at this store for 3 years and I haven't found better deals anywhere. If you have a freezer all the better . You can stock up on and really save. Great prices. The reviews I read before going to this store should have been a warning, but I had to see for myself. What an exceptionally terrible store! Grocery Outlet was my favorite store until I visited the Gilroy store. I noticed a sign near the register that said locally owned/independently owned/or something to that effect: to you I say, "Shame on you!" If this had been the first Grocery Outlet I had visited I would never go to another. I could write a chapter but I will attempt to be concise: store and grounds filthy inside and out, pitiful selection, dimly lit aisles, nonexistent customer service, prices average to fair, quality and freshness questionable. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is because I will probably give the store one more chance in hope that the owner/manager initiates improvement. If nothing has changed by then my next review will be one star, if that is my lowest option, and I will shop somewhere else. It will be a while before I muster the courage to revisit, so you will have plenty of time to initiate improvement. Message to owner/manager: Every other GO I have visited has been great; don't be the bad apple who ruins the reputation for other hard-working stores. read more
