The variety of their packaged goods is phenomenal, though the produce variety can be narrow. The prices are exceptional. Many of my friends have told me they avoid this store because they think they'll receive lower quality food, or food close to expiration. THAT IS NOT THE CASE. We loved shopping in the Grocery Outlet on Prescott Road in Modesto CA. Recently our experience has been drastically different. The store is out of so many items that it actually looks like it is going out of business. The items that they do have in stock are missing shelf tags, so we have no idea of the price of an item we are interested in buying. I have gone to shop at Grocery Outlet and ended up leaving and going to WINCO down the street because the store is out of so many items that it is easier (and cheaper) to go to WINCO. While I am at WINCO I have noticed quite a few other regular Grocery Outlet shoppers at WINCO as well. Today I went in to purchase a couple of ad items only to find them out of stock. I walked down the freezer aisle and was shocked at how much of the aisle was completely EMPTY. The end freezers on both ends were completely empty. Not one item in them. I really hope that they figure out what is wrong and fix it otherwise we will have to shop somewhere else. I honestly believe that if the problem is not fixed soon the store will go out of business. read more

Their prices on most items are REALLY GOOD! We bought popcornopolis (a HUGE bag of caramel popcorn drizzled with two types of chocolate) for $5.99, chicken wings for $3.99, and a roll of Reese's cookie dough for 99 cents!! The chicken wings (choice of Buffalo, classic Frank's Red Hot, or Teriyaki). Our favorite: Buffalo! They had a BOGO sale on the chicken and that was an unbelievable price, sadly the sale ended. :'( I'm kinda a wimp when it comes to spicy foods, but the Buffalo wings were actually quite good. We did not enjoy the teriyaki wings, even though they were suggested by an employee. In the past we purchased the Hormel meat and cheese tray, I included a photo. It was an amazing price for what we received (but the cheese turned faster than expected). Unfortunately, I did purchase some big yogurt bottles and under the lid was mold after only opening it a day or two before. It didn't make sense. I only removed one star for this. I also showed a photo of the Coca-Cola boom box image on the soda box. I thought it was cute! The staff is really friendly too. We enjoy talking with them when we shop here! I also like shopping here on a more personal note: It used to be my best friend's mom's FAVORITE place to shop! She did not speak to him once then when he paid she threw his change down he asked for a bag and she said she had to charge him he said that was fine and she continued to ignore him then over charged him for a bag then threw the bag on the counter. On Monday, January 16th around 2 pm, I was at the 1800 Prescott Road, Suite 8 location, with my son. We went and got in line at one of the first registers. A woman in front of me had a wheelchair and a few items. A worker, possibly the owner, an older white male with a balding hairline and suspenders walks up to the woman in the wheelchair but decides to offer me the opportunity to check out in another lane. Knowing that the woman in the chair should have been first, I could only assume I was being racially profiled as a Black woman. I know this feeling well. Before we got to the register, he asked me if I needed a bag for the few items I had. I told him that I did not, because I had my own canvas tote (had my wallet and car keys inside). He then asked for the bag before I could do anything, and he opened it like he was looking for something. I could not believe the boundary-crossing. I asked him to be careful with my keys. He never responded, did not say thank you, no eye contact - he was racially profiling me. You may read this twice and not believe it, but that is a larger issue. He should be ashamed of his behavior. Please note that others noticed this awkward moment, and I left the store in tears all while trying to stay cool for my son. read more

I like shopping at the Grocery Outlet. I find and discover items I wouldn't pay attention to in a regular food market. Not all of the stores carry the same products. I usually buy a few items of a product and go home waiting to try them. The ones I did like I have to remember which store I brought it from, it can be a hunt but it's a challenge. I went to the store and I bought $175.00 of food I have a card that says $3.oo off for every $25.00 transaction the cashier was so Lazy to stop the transaction for every $25 she scanned the Manager Roger didnt do nothing about it. The cashier said that the policy is they can only scanned the card for one transaction only per day in using that card that's a lie because we went to another Grocery outlet they are scanned the card for every $25 with $3 off. Cashier (possible manager) made sexist remarks and violated HIPAA while ringing me up. The store was busy, I waited in line for a minute while the second cashier (Rodger) dealt with a return and was running between registers. He called me to his register and as I was unloading my cart he was calling an employee to the register over a headset. When they did not reply, he was talking very loudly across two registers to the other cashier and asked about the other employee. They disclosed that the employee being discussed had a doctor's appointment and were double checking if she had left yet. Once they confirmed that employee had left to her doctors appointment, Rodger became mad and begun complaining about the employee. Then Rodger looked at me with disgust and very pointedly said "Women!" I was in complete shock!! I am so sorry for these employees who have to work around an individual that makes their work place so hostile. Employees should not be talked about negatively for dealing with health needs. Women should not be attacked for existing. I understand retail is stressful, but common respect is not a high bar, it's the bare minimum. I not only shop here for my home but also for a nonprofit to buy food for events and our resource center. However, I will not spend money at a store that supports this behavior and treatment of their employees. read more

A worker said that she doesn't need or want elderly people with memory problems or disabilities to come in to "HER" store and make mistakes, or say they made one. So I'm assuming that she might be the manager or even owner with the way she says "HER store", and if so that is so disgusting and she needs to be fired and or this store needs to be shut down. She said that they should just stay away from her store, she doesn't want them to come there. Also heard her trying to humiliate by yelling, mocking and scolding a elderly lady with a Hospital band on for having memory problems, and when she got close to her she said she smells a little like cat urine and yelled at her front of everyone in the store that the elderly lady should take a bath. Honestly one of the best stores to get groceries in my opinion. They offer a great organic section and even a really great household aisle. The staff is friendly and helpful and the prices are cheaper than all other major grocery stores. The store is clean and organized, moreso than other grocery outlets I've been to. The only downside can be finding specific things is harder, but they have a majority (if not all) of what I usually need! read more

I like it here most of the time. They have good prices on high-quality dog food. They have a pretty good selection of other items and decent prices but I'll wait until the pandemic is over before I go back since they don't enforce mask wearing and some of the employees wear their mask over their chin instead of over their nose and mouth. Deals here are awesome. If you look in the local mailer magazine they usually have coupons for a few dollars off purchases of a certain dollar amount . I had one for $25 off and made a very large purchase but they wouldn't take the coupon off after the fact because the transaction had been completed even though I went out to my car and got the coupon and came back with it and they said they cannot make any changes which is annoying and seems dishonest. Store is medium clean. Avoid fresh meats here and check dates, they sold me some sketchy chicken recently. Having said that most items are amazing and or awesome. Big savings on over priced items elsewhere like premium dog treats that normally sell for 15 bucks in a large container are about 4 to 5 dollars per container here . They were fresh and soft and my dogs love them Location is a bit creepy at night, I got locked out of my car here once at night and was seriously uncomfortable for about an hour until the friend came with my spare keys. Super handy if you are hosting a party and don't want to cough up big dough for cheeses and snacks. I'm mostly shop at Raleys and every once in a while I go to the grocery outlet especially for deals on cheeses wines or expensive processed meat items like lunch meats, sausages or bacon. They also have particularly good deals on items like sauces sauces and salad dressings; luxury cheeses, alcohol/ wine and snack foods or cereals. They also carry a few householder beauty products. Every time I go I find deals that are seriously unexpectedly amazing. Stick with non spoiling items IMHO. read more

Every time I visit this store I'm thrilled with the outcome. Even in a time of fear and panic with the Coronavirus this store put up signs limiting hoarding on certain items and signs reminding people to stay 6ft away from others. Once I checked out I was greeted by two young lady's who were friendly and helpful I have never waited behined more than one person at the checkout they are amazing at bagging and getting you on your way. I come here every now and then with no issue but today I came in and was using the electric cart because I have a injured foot and I wasn't able to keep up with my family as they walked through the store, upon driving through and getting embarrassed that I wasn't sure how to drive the cart, a older employee (I suspect her name was Janice) gave me attitude after my brother made a joke about my leg being "broken" which it wasn't it was just a nail removal incident and when I explained that to the worker she replied with "yeah sure" in a condescending tone. As someone who works in customer service I felt insulted and embarrassed so I placed the cart back and limped around the store instead which was painful. I try and give this store a chance hoping my visit reflects the positive feelings I used to experience when shopping there. It's close to my house but I almost always kick myself for going back in. The lack of staff (1) at the registers is typical. A long line, because whether you have one item or a whole cart full - there is only one line. The former owners had stockers at night. Clearly no more as there are more people on the floor than the registers stocking shelves. What bargain? This place is a lie. There aren't any bargains. They tell you how much you save, but what are they comparing their prices to? A king's grocery store? I was comparing the prices to other local food stores near them and they are about the same, maybe a few cents cheaper on some items. For items like their avocados, it was actually more expensive at Grocery Outlet than Ralph's... Not only are you not getting a bargain, but the selection of fruits and veggies at Grocery Outlet is really limited. Their avocados didn't seem that fresh. I think the reason it's discounted is because the quality is pretty crappy. Also be careful always check the expirations dates. I have discovered they have expired groceries in their stants, refrigerators and freezers at a regular prices. I even heard one time a customer request a discount on already expired food and the cashier was very rude and disrespecful and said they have one extra week on expired food to sell to the public. On dairies? I don' t think so. I'm sticking to my local stores . At least they have a better selection of fruits and fresh veggies. Check the expiration date people. read more
