This was an inevitable development for a 14-year-old basset hound, and it marked the end of his upstairs life, which included the occasional dreaded spray bath in our shower. We carried him a few times, but it was just burdensome enough to make his baths even more infrequent. As we were also pretty negligent about his pedicures, I decided it was time to seek professional assistance. Our dogs aren't hard to groom, which is why it never occurred to me to pay for their baths before, but I was pleasantly surprised by the moderate rates at Moon Shine. I guess the other rates I'd heard were for mobile grooming, which is considerably more expensive. A deep conditioning bath for Duke costs $70 before tip and includes shampoo, conditioner, glands, nails, and ears. Milo weighs ten pounds more than Duke, putting him in the large dog category, so his costs $80. Not the worst for a once-a-month expense that keeps my dogs clean and their glands, nails, and ears in order. I've paid plenty for all three of those a la carte over the years, and it's nice to get them taken care of in one go. Moon Shine is inside Urban Pet in Los Feliz, where you can see a beautiful portrait of a young Duke on one of the walls. The parking lot seems busy at all times of day, but the turnover is fast enough if you're willing to wait. Urban Pet was my pet store when I lived in this part of town, and it's nice to be able to pick up supplies while the dogs get groomed. Ana has been taking care of Duke and Milo and they seem to do well with her, or at least I haven't heard her complain. She's great, and has also been grooming our basset friend The Stig for many years. He loves her, and it's clear that she knows how to handle a loud, bath-averse basset. The whole process takes like two to three hours, so it's best to drop off your dirty dogs and pick up your clean, dry ones. You get a call when they're almost ready. This does mean that doggy bath time can eat up a huge chunk of a day, but I've found the inconvenience well worthwhile. We're fans of Ana and Moon Shine and will bring our dogs for their spa days for the rest of their lives.

When I came to this salon recently, I witnessed rough and careless treatment of a dog that was brought in just before my arrival. That moment made everything finally make sense to me. I had been going to this salon for about two years, and during all this time my dog clearly showed fear. She does not want to enter the salon, refuses to get out of the car, pulls away from my hands, and on several occasions she even urinated from fear. Unfortunately, I didn't take this seriously at first. What makes this even more disturbing is that my dog is very calm by nature and actually enjoys grooming. In other grooming salons, the staff always said very kind things about her, and she was never afraid. She behaves perfectly during grooming elsewhere -- no stress, no fear. In addition, the quality of grooming here is very poor. Every visit feels like a gamble. One time the haircut looks acceptable, the next time it looks terrible. I will attach photos to show the results. They also wash her badly -- her stomach is often still dirty after the appointment. After seeing how animals are treated there, I now fully understand why my dog was so scared. I do not recommend this place and will never return. I am truly sorry that I didn't notice this earlier and continued bringing my dog here for so long.

I took my dog back today to ask them what happened and all the "trimmer" did was laugh and laugh. I don't know if I have ever been so insulted. The owner said nothing (in English that is). Completely irresponsible. If the wound gets infected the bills will add up. We will see. I'm speaking with a lawyer later today.

I thought it would be good to consistently have the same groomer work on our dog "Lucky " That's where Anna (Groomer) comes into the picture. She's Great! Really Nice , Top tier grooming skills!!! ..... more importantly my wife loves the way Lucky comes home after a session. Ask for Anna and schedule an appointment with her. You won't be disappointed!!
