I have a 17 year old pup who recently developed IVDD. As a result, she can't use her back legs, which can make grooming difficult. I took my dog to Healthy Spot this morning for a nail trim with Gigi, who was incredibly kind and patient. I felt so comfortable handing my pup off because I knew she was in good, careful hands. Mylo can be a bit unsure, but Nicholle went above and beyond to make him feel completely comfortable. Because he had an early appointment and hadn't eaten breakfast yet, she actually took the time to feed him. She even walked him in between his grooming to make sure he could relieve his bladder. When I picked him up, he looked so handsome and felt incredibly soft. Nicholle's extra care and compassion mean the world to us. Highly, highly recommend!

This was an inevitable development for a 14-year-old basset hound, and it marked the end of his upstairs life, which included the occasional dreaded spray bath in our shower. We carried him a few times, but it was just burdensome enough to make his baths even more infrequent. As we were also pretty negligent about his pedicures, I decided it was time to seek professional assistance. Our dogs aren't hard to groom, which is why it never occurred to me to pay for their baths before, but I was pleasantly surprised by the moderate rates at Moon Shine. I guess the other rates I'd heard were for mobile grooming, which is considerably more expensive. A deep conditioning bath for Duke costs $70 before tip and includes shampoo, conditioner, glands, nails, and ears. Milo weighs ten pounds more than Duke, putting him in the large dog category, so his costs $80. Not the worst for a once-a-month expense that keeps my dogs clean and their glands, nails, and ears in order. I've paid plenty for all three of those a la carte over the years, and it's nice to get them taken care of in one go. Moon Shine is inside Urban Pet in Los Feliz, where you can see a beautiful portrait of a young Duke on one of the walls. The parking lot seems busy at all times of day, but the turnover is fast enough if you're willing to wait. Urban Pet was my pet store when I lived in this part of town, and it's nice to be able to pick up supplies while the dogs get groomed. Ana has been taking care of Duke and Milo and they seem to do well with her, or at least I haven't heard her complain. She's great, and has also been grooming our basset friend The Stig for many years. He loves her, and it's clear that she knows how to handle a loud, bath-averse basset. The whole process takes like two to three hours, so it's best to drop off your dirty dogs and pick up your clean, dry ones. You get a call when they're almost ready. This does mean that doggy bath time can eat up a huge chunk of a day, but I've found the inconvenience well worthwhile. We're fans of Ana and Moon Shine and will bring our dogs for their spa days for the rest of their lives.
