Overall, I felt good about the experience with Vanessa (sales) & Johnathan (final paperwork). However, I didnt trust Anthony (finance) once he threw the $3000 warranty on the price list with no prior notification. Nor did he explain what the warranty covered. He admitted later, when questioned, we didn't have to take the Grote warranty, but it bothered us so much, we almost didn't buy the car. Thankfully, the bank manager who processed our loan explained the warranty her bank could offer us instead, so we purchased through her. This small act from Anthony felt very shady and could have lost Grote the sale. Because of this, I don't know if we'll purchase from Grote in the future. read more

I will start with my experience with a lady over the phone who took all of my information and got back with my that my husband and I were fully approved. We weren't required to put a down payment down and we were open to get anything up to $28,000. Sound great, right? We made an appointment to go in that weekend. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot a gentleman came walking out and followed our car as we drove through the parking lot to see what they had before our appointment. When we got inside we had to give all of our information again which seemed odd seeing i gave them everything already and had been approved. The guy was very nice but something seemed strange after I was very clear that I wanted a vehicle that was not in an accident and had a clear car fax. He came back and said he could only get us approved if we put down $3,000. He said he didnt know why we even wanted to trade in the vehicle we had. Pushy sells people. They take your keys right away so you basically can't leave. If you ate going just to look, don't hand over your keys. Over priced used cars that won't even last you a year. I bought 2018 Nissan Pathfiner and was pushed into it. Yes I was looking for third row car in case I had my four nieces at my house for a weekend and I could drive them all and someone else too. But I go and talk to them to see if I could get into a pathfinder cause I that's what was looking to get into. That was day 1 of going up to Rockford IL. Day 2 the salesman had me walk around the car by myself and check the car out. It was like he knew nothing about the car. We got into the car for the test drive. The Salesman said let go for test drive and not really saying anything about the features the car has. he looks up and goes oh there is dual sun roofs. Than as we drove out of the lot he goes do you know the area I was like no. So he tells me go right and once we got out of the mall he kept telling me go right Until we got back to the lot. Which it felt like it was test drive going around the block. When we got back we talked about price and down payment. I told them no down payment and it was a lot back forth going on. Until came up with 7.00 down payment agreement deal. Than they showed me everything the price of the car and my trade in amount which was my pay off amount of the auto loan I had. Than my new auto loan for the pathfinder which was 176 less of my trade in loan so I agreed. Than got to finance office and was completely lied too. My payments went up 476.49 from my trade in payment. the monthly payments was the stupid smart pay weekly payment. I was ready to walk away and take my trade in back. But finance manger was like your getting a great car and we have few paperwork to go through. They added thing like gap which I told them no, and they told two would be good. I finally give them a chance to sell me a vehicle (2017 BMW X5) which the sales rep over the phone told me they have several on their lot so I drive from Mishawaka all the way to Elkhart to see and test drive them only to find out when I get there that they don't actually have any BMW X5s in stock. This company are liars and tell you they have something on lot when they don't they are just trying to get you to their lot to sell you something else. My son bought a car there a little over a year ago and was not told that the car had been in 2 other accidents and from one it had frame damage. I wouldn't recommend going here. It was high-pressure sales telling me my credit was bad, which it wasn't awful it was 620, which is considered fair. From start to finish, I felt bullied by salesmen they didn't give me any chance to have it looked at first. It wouldn't even let me leave after they told me I needed 500 dollars down. Even though no money down was advertised. I told them I'd have to wait because I didn't have it that day. They pressured me into calling family to beg for money. I ended up getting it from my mom and took the car home that day. After hours of harassment only to discover, they gave me a car on an empty tank of gas, needing an oil change, and a full service. It also has electrical problems and water damage, which wasn't disclosed. They saw I was nervous because this was my first time since getting my divorce, applying for a car loan on my own. A friend with worse credit then mine went to Gates got a newer car for no money down and a better interest rate. I don't think they help as much as advertised. Ok, so here's the deal: at first, I thought I had found a great car really easily with the help of one of the salesman. But I wanted my mechanic to doublecheck the car before I bought it. Grote's "Service Inspection" came back with some minor issues: needed new windshield wipers, one tire replaced, etc. My mechanic's service inspection turned up $3,000 DOLLARS in major repairs, including a cracked and leaking engine oil cooler (which alone was $1,200)! In fact, as I was driving it to my mechanic, I even smelled a burning smell that they definitely would have noticed. Got back to the dealership and told them that I didn't want the car...the salesman acted "shocked" at what the mechanic found (yeah right). Also, I had put $500 dollars down on the car, and I had to very firmly ask for it back before I walked out the door. I know their cars are cheap and look like a "good deal," but there is for sure a reason for that. If you don't want to end up feeling disillusioned and 100% lied to (plus paying huge repair bills), please think twice before shopping here! Also, if you hate pressure while car shopping, the salesmen/women literally pounce on you the minute you pull into the dealership. if you don't own a vehicle and can't get a ride to the dealership (Buchanan,mi to Elkhart,IN) they will not work with you. I was assumed a "criminal" because I had asked them to verify my information without me being present. This is after salesperson Ashley informed me that two banks were willing to finance my purchase. All personal information was given via web application. Why have a credit application available online if the dealer is unable to verify the information. I had the worse experience here. They sold me a lemon. The car broke down less than 1 week of owning and had to be towed from my driveway. They would NOT supply a rental. Days later they said it was a relay switch and its fine. A month later, the car would not start again, about a half hour later it started, I never called. Today 1/19/24, guess what the car would not start again and I had to get a ride to work. I called Grote at 9:30 to say that the same problem is happening, but because the warranty expired 2 days ago the service guy was completely rude and would NOT let me talk. I got aggravated and yelled for him to be quite to let me finish talking, he said because I was being rude I could have a nice day and HUNG UP!... I am reporting them to the BBB and I am calling head quarters!. I have HAD nothing but rude ignorant people talk to me from there. They sold me a piece of crap for WAY OVER market price. DO NOT GO THERE, DO NOT USE THEM EVEN IF YOU FEEL ITS YOUR ONLY OPTION. I should have paid attention, they said I couldn't get a car unless I had a co-signer, so I had my mom sign, they didn't list her as the co buyer they listed her as the buyer, well guess what she has good credit that they ruined it by doing over 20 HARD inquiries and yet I still have a shitty interest rate, so not only did they screw me over with a car that don't run and my payment is over $500 a month not even 3 payments in, they screwed my mom also. Instead he committed fraud on a legal document. Sold an 87 year old a 30,000.00 SUV on an 84 month loan. This is called elderly abuse. The absolute worst experience I have ever had. They never inspected the vehicle before placing it on the lot. The check engine light remained on since the day after I purchased the vehicle. I put $2500.00 down on this vehicle and Mr. Taylor had the nerve to ask for more money to get me out of this vehicle and into another vehicle. I am now getting my vehicle repair which in total will cost me $3800.00 not including new tires. This does not even include the transmission which has been slipping and to diagnose why the check engine light is on. Mr. Tayloys only response what that it's unfortunate but if you come up with $ 2000.00, more we will get you into another vehicle. After taking it to Firestone. they took one wheel off and the brakes literally fell apart. Both coil springs were broken, not rusted but broken. The back shocks were rusted completely through and broken. And I have made only three car payments since this horrendous purchase. Again, as I said I now have to come out of pocket of $3800.00 to get the under carriage all repaired. And then address the check engine light and also find out why the transmission is slipping. And the same named tires I will put back on will cost me over $1000.00 with balance and installation. Anthony is the person that sold me the vehicle and told me on the test drive that the vehicle was sound and perfect. Three months later I still have to pay my car payment on top of all these other expenses. Their service department is completely trash because I know for a fact once they took those tires off, they very well saw the chaos that lurked behind. Everyone I spoke to there at Grote Mitsubishi lied to me from day one. Overall, I expect to pay well over $7500.00 to get this vehicle safe to drive and hopefully last me through the remainder of my loan. My suggestion to anyone looking for a new or used vehicle to stay far away from this so-called dealership. Each person I spoke to lied to me 100% and either hung up on me or just never returned my calls. And I mean everyone lied to me. From the front desk, sales and their service department. This is no joke. This place is in for a rude awakening in the near future. This place should be shut down and I will do everything in my power to make this happen. Purchased a car from Grote and had trouble getting it fixed. Took them 2 weeks to finally fix the transmission. I just took my car in for it's 2nd oil change.... Both filters were black!!! Where I took my car for the oil change said that the filters were not touched for a year!!!! I just got this car last June 2017. So far I had to get a transmission fixed, new battery, new tires they were bald and now $12o oil change because the filters made my car smell like garbage. I love my car BUT... I bought a car from Grote about 4 years ago, I brought my dad with me. As it turns out, he went to high school with the main manager (Kim, I think was his name). I had an EXCELLENT experience. The car said it hadn't been wrecked but it obviously had, the tires needed replacing, Grote fixed these issues immediately, and I feel the price I paid for my car was fair (2014 Chevy Cruze, at that time it was worth like $16,000 I paid $17,000 out the door, taxes, fees, extra warranty etc.) Here we are 4 years later. I have a friend, she bought a car from Grote about 3 weeks ago SHE WENT BY HERSELF. She paid nearly TWICE what the car is worth. (2010 Chevy Cruze worth about $6,000 she paid $10,000 under the impression that because she had bad credit, the price would suck) The check engine light came on very soon after driving it off the lot and the history logs showed that it had recently been cleared (the check engine light, like they made it go away) day 3 of having that car and it wouldnt start in the morning for work. Since then it seems like it has been in the shop more than she has driven it. She is currently picking it up from the THIRD time in the shop. They are acting like SHE is in the wrong. It starts every time for them so they say there's nothing they can do about it. The service manager actually said the words "This is not Walmart, you can't just return it with a receipt" so unprofessional. It's been in the shop 3 times. Stranded her in a deserted parking lot in the middle of Fort Wayne, costed her a point and a half for work, not to mention all the emotional stress. They took advantage of her. The fact that she was young and alone. I find it impossible to believe that they didn't know that car was unreliable. Not to mention the price I mean are you serious. I used to tell EVERYONE go to Grote because of my stellar experience. I am so disappointed in how unprofessional they are being. I am disgusted at how much they made her pay for that car, they knew she had nothing, they knew she was desperate for a car. They knew her credit was bad.
