When they closed up, I was heartbroken but then one day I was driving through Columbia and bingo there they were I've been going ever since. I came here pretty hungry close to 10pm on Sunday 9/29 not having eaten since breakfast. I wanted fries and a sandwich of some sort. The chicken salad sandwich sounded promising and I was not disappointed by what I got. The wait was a little long, but i wasn't in a rush. Moreover, It was late and there was only one guy preparing orders for myself and a few other patrons. I go my order to go but the inside had plenty of seating. It'll be a cool place to watch a game. It's a nice sports bar vibe, with a splash of local pizza parlor. The Ravens were playing when I came in and a few fans were at the bar enjoying the game. After a long day of driving and arriving at our hotel for the night before another long day of driving the next day, it was great to be able to walk into Grotto's to order a pizza for takeout (we have our dog with us. We ate at our hotel). It was an easy and pleasant process with Jeliah. She was very nice and helpful. What really stuck out the most, though, was the kindness of all the staff. I had an unrelated situation that I inquired about with Kassidy. (I inquired about a certain grade of gas I had just seen for the first time at the gas station.) She did not know the answer, but went out of her way to get the person who would know the answers. Then, that person, Matt, took a few moments out of his work to explain to me, answer my questions and put my mind at ease over something I think I had made a mistake with my car. We are still on our hunt for great Maryland pizza and although this was a great step forward, it's still not quite what our Massachusetts hearts are craving. We started with the cheesy garlic bread and that was pretty disappointing...quite flavorless, would not get again. The Alfredo sauce was the worst I've ever had, it was bland and tasted like it came out of a jar of very cheap sauce. The pasta wasn't fettuccine which I was okay with except that the noodles were stuck together and just kind of blobby. I did eat it because I was hungry and it was filling but I'm not going back. We stopped in late Thursday on a whim after a paint night at a local brewery. We were tired and hungry and just wanted something quick and yummy. The place was mostly empty by 8:30pm, so we were seated immediately and our waitress was the nicest! We got a slice of the pepperoni pizza to try, along with the "Classic Margherita" pizza. It wasn't the traditional margherita I was used to, but it was good. The pepperoni was my favorite -- it was covered in a BLANKET of crisp pepperoni and tasted garlic-y. The crust of both pizzas was delicious, not too floppy, not greasy at all, and with a good crisp crunch to it without being too chewy. It reminded me of one of my favorite small-town pizza places from back home, or how Pizza Hut used to feel when we were kids. The restaurant was clean, parking was easy to find, and the restaurant itself is pretty easy to navigate to from the main roads. The next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely go back to try more (including the gelato, which I was really curious about). read more

Matt gave us very good service and very friendly. Food was fast and tasty and Matt was very attentive.

The silverware was dirty. We found hair in our food. We were told that the food item with the hair would be removed from the bill. I was presented with the payment machine but not the paper bill. Once I checked my email receipt I saw I had paid for the food item that had the hair in it. They lied. I will never return to this restaurant. I will tell others about my experience. read more

Plenty of TV's and a decent range of subscriptions for them to find what you are looking for - they didn't have thE NHL Ticket, but that was fine I just used my iPad to watch the game from the bar. Every Friday my kiddo and I used to go to the Grotto that was near our home for pizza dinner. It was such a fun tradition. Sadly that Grotto closed several years ago. My kiddo asked to go to Grotto in Columbia to celebrate 5th grade promotion and we were excited to be going back after missing it for so many years! I'm so happy grotto is opened and doing well. Their outdoor seating is well-spaced with generally good service. The servers are clearly learning their new pace but it's going well. Husband and I have made it a habit of going after work on Friday's. Sit outside, enjoy some cheap, cold beer (22oz for ~$4), some cheesy beach fries, and a junior pizza. Yum! While they don't have their official happy hour back, their prices are very reasonable and won't break the bank. My husband and I haven't been here for awhile. Coming here tonight made me remember just how good the pizza is. Unlike at other pizza joints, they put the tomato sauce on top of the cheese. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and there was a generous amount on it. They have a free self-serve popcorn maker towards the back near the restrooms. It is buttery and makes me think of movie theater popcorn. They also sell gelato if you can make room after a full belly. I've had it in the past and thought it was good. If you become a Swirl Rewards member once you accumulate 150 points from food and drink purchases, you can get $10 rewards. For your birthday you also get a free junior cheese pizza that is redeemable on your birthday (14 days after it is issued. It is automatically loaded to your account and you will get an email reminder). The restaurant is big and has outdoor patio seating and a bar towards the back. The restaurant does not have an open layout and is divided into separate areas, not necessarily rooms. In certain areas like the section we sat in there were several tvs. The area adjacent to the bar. Came here for the first time. My expectations were set kinda low as it seemed like another large soul less franchise with mediocre pizza. Then my expectations seemed to have been confirmed when we got the salad, which was very underwhelming...mostly consisted of limp iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots, and exactly one olive, But then the pizza came, and I was pleasantly surprised. The toppings were very generous, and the crust had a nice flavor to it and texture. The swirled sauce on top of the cheese was also a nice touch. I was also encouraged to see that Grottos, while indeed a franchise, is more locally based than I realized as they mainly have restaurants in just Maryland and Delaware, with a few in Pennsylvania. The pictures on the wall show the history of the restaurant, illustrating that Grotto's was originally a little pizzeria on Rehoboth beach that eventually expanded. Given that Columbia has very limited options for good pizza, I definitely see myself coming back, especially for takeout. While they have lots of seating, there's a front counter area that's appears to be set up for easy and fast pickup. read more

I love Grottos Pizza, I think the issue with Grottos is the issue everywhere. it's just short staffed, and when you're short staffed, quality suffers. When you walk in, it doesn't look as clean as it should or used to. The food, can be a bit hit or miss which sucks because when it's a hit it is SO YUMMY but when it's a miss it just makes you very, very, very sad because you know what it CAN taste like. All in all, I would say I continue to go for the times when it's a hit and chalk the misses up to it being understaffed.
