I LOVE Groucho's!! I have been an avid Groucho's eater since my college days at Clemson and I am so excited there is one so close to me in Summerville! I have come to this location in Summerville about 6 times since they opened and I so wanted to give this place 5 stars today!! The sandwhiches and 45 sauce alone are definitely worth five stars!! However, I am hesitant to do so today because the service was not the best. I have had mixed experiences here with the service. Sometimes fast and sometimes slow but always kind. The server today took our orders quickly, and brought our drinks quickly, but after that we rarely saw him. It was Monday at 11:40 and also the first day of summer vacation for students. The place became PACKED at noon and I understand the servers were stretched really thin, but we saw our food sitting on the counter for a while before it was actually brought to our table. And after a long wait for our checks we eventually walked up to the counter and he printed our receipts there and we paid quickly (because we really had to head back to work) The sandwiches today were amazing though!! Always tastes great! I had the international dip with turkey and of course my all time favorite 45 sauce. read more

First time ever ordering from Groucho's and man was I blown away. All of the ingredients were fresh and the portions were perfect for my salad. The ranch was Amazing!! I love the STP dipper! I seem to have a craving for these sandwiches. It comes with the 45 sauce - I love it so much that I bought a big tub of it to take home! Sandwiches are delicious here and food is served very quickly. I love that they're local so I will go out of my way to eat here so I can support local businesses. Service at this deli is fast, friendly, and efficient. I can't say that I've ever had a bad experience at this location, or any of the other locations ever. First time eating their was not impressed...first of all I ordered a turkey sandwich which was a normal sandwich.... You can't mess that up right but I order it with turkey lettuce tomatoes and ask for onions the waiter their said we don't have onions .... I probably should of said no thanks but I ordered it anyway .... My question what sandwich shop doesn't carry onions ...... when I got my sandwich the turkey was finely chopped which I thought was unusual the bread was toasted ok at least they didn't mess up overall not worth the visit one star if I could do a half star I would . read more

This is a great little deli. Nice and clean with good service. Very casual and kid friendly. To be honest, most of the menu is pretty basic and nothing to shout about. That being said, the reason for the 4 stars is their incredible "Formula 45" sauce and awesome vegetarian options. (My husband is NOT a vegetarian and loves this place so I'm not limiting their audience.) We do order the same thing every time we go now because we have found that they have a few awesome items worth coming for. It's worth mentioning that their grilled cheese is pretty bad, though. Don't order that or you won't come back. Order the Baby Bella Melt (for vegetarians) or the Flowertown Special (for meat-lovers). read more

Ordered my food ahead of time and still had to wait when the restaurant was practically empty. Took ten minutes to get my food and all I heard were the teenager cooks in the back talking their head off. Didn't even get a thank you or a goodbye. Sand which also is very disappointing. Was going to order Newks cause I was leaving Target and I hadn't been there in awhile, but their website wouldn't load and I seen an email that Groucho's missed me and I was like ya know what , I miss them too! I stop by Groucho's for lunch today. When I walked the staff greeting me with a smile and made some very good recommendations. The prep staff and fast and accurate with my lunch. Great service. I pre-ordered bc I only get 30 minutes for lunch. I went in to get my food, and 25 minutes after the website said it'd be done, I walked out of there with an incomplete order. People came in and ordered after me and walked out with their food before I did. I understand it was very busy bc it was lunchtime, BUT I ordered way in advance and didn't even get the pickle nor did I get the chips that came with the meal! Always a fond reminder of many times in college at their Columbia SC Five Points location. The Summerville location is clean, staff is great and always happy here, and food comes out quick. There is something for everyone on this menu- I'm looking at you vegetarians and vegans. "My Wife's Salad Bowl" is my usual go-to, seeing as it barely can be called a salad.... it's loaded. A little later whwn we still had no tea I ask for more tea and she actually said "I heard you the 1st time" her words and her tone were both rude. We stopped by Groucho's for the first time a few days ago and had a very pleasant experience. We've lived in Summerville for years and often dined at this location when it was another restaurant. I'm happy to report that Groucho's Deli is a worthy replacement for the previous establishment. First, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the perfect amount of attentiveness without being overbearing. Then the food was served quickly and flavor was good. The dipping sauce is excellent and really makes the sandwich. I'm sure we will be stopping by here again to try more of the menu. A quick note on the bad reviews. I would hate to be a restaurant owner in today's Yelp environment--especially for a new establishment. All it takes is a couple of bad reviews to really bring down your average. I'd recommend you put more stock in Groucho's good reviews and give it a try! read more

Stopped by Groucho's this afternoon- we have heard great things about their other location and had this one open up right around the corner from our home. We were promptly and warmly greeted by the staff, asking us if we wanted to have a seat or take out. We opted for take-out just because. There was plenty of seating if you wanted to stay to eat, the dining room is quite large. I noticed there is a high-top counter/bar you can sit at to eat and they had bottled beer in the cooler. As we took a moment to look over the menu I mentioned how we had never been here before, the staff made suggestions about their best sellers and explained what comes with each sandwich- which is a pickle spear and a bag of chips. We both went for the STP Dipper, the prices were fair, each sandwich was 7.99/each. The sweet tea was good. I noticed the sandwiches were a bit on the small side for a "man's appetite"- the sandwich was just enough for me, but my boyfriend felt the sub was a little small and not hearty enough for the money, it was probably equivalent to a 6" from Subway- maybe even a little smaller. The food tastes great and their sauce is excellent- it's almost a mixture of thousand island and ranch, it was very flavorful and very tasty. My first experience was good and the Groucho's environment/staff/food left a good first impression, I will be back to try something else on the menu. read more

Excited they finely came to Summerville. I used to eat in West Ashley often. #GrouchosSville www.Grouchos.com. The place was busy at 1pm, greeted immediately and offered to sit anywhere. Menu had grown since I was last there. Glad to see Pink & White Moose still on the menu. Prices increased from a few years ago but what restaurant hasn't? Ordered the pastrami sandwich, toasted with Swiss. Perfectly cooked. Photo below shows first bite taken, couldn't wait. The sandwich comes with their famous Formula 45 sauce and chips. The chips were stale and didn't use my Formula 45 on the pastrami (I'm a purest) so I dipped my chips which helped. The dill pickle was a fresh crisp bite and makes a great dessert (for me) but also on the menu is a pretzel crusted salted caramel brownie which sounds yummy. Beer is available, daily specials also. They have a rewards loyalty program and open M-S 11-9pm and Sunday 11-4. Check them out soon! read more

Ordered and paid for my food via Groucho's app. It was easy to use and you rack up loyalty points. The parking lot was full so I parked in the back. The establishment was clean and spacious. I was greeted right away and the staff was super friendly. I gave my name and only waited a few minutes for my order. I pre ordered the STP dipper that came with a pickle spear and chips. A drink is not included in the price. I also got 2 "45" sauces, a snickerdoodle, and a 32 oz drink. It totaled out at 12 dollars and some change. The sandwich was super yummy. It would've been ridiculously good had the bun been toasted. I don't know if that's an option but next time I'll ask. Now, I'm a sauce person. I mix all kind of stuff together (ketchup and mayo, bbq and mayo, ranch and hot sauce etc.) but that 45 sauce didn't reach me. Please, don't try It based on my opinion. Don't get me wrong it was good but I'm still out on how I liked it on that particular sandwich. It reminded me of a sweeter version of Japanese white yumyum sauce with relish in it. I know they have other sauces and I plan to give them a try next time. I would definitely recommend this place. I've waited a long time for Summerville to get an awesome Deli. I grew up eating at the Turtle Deli in Downtown Summerville till they closed years ago and I haven't found a spot yet that compares. I think I found a sutible equivalent. Edit: Moved my rating from 1 start to 3, as they fixed a big problem. Still..... We had high hopes for Groucho's. Truly we did. We excitedly watched and waited for months as their renovations continued of the once rather nasty and unsanitary previous restaurant. From the road daily, we could see crews fixing, correcting, and painting. We were like children building with excitement toward Christmas morning! FINALLY the open sign appeared! We jumped in the car, drove there while talking about what might be on the menu, and how nice the place must be now. We ripped the door open..... and were shocked. Where we had just one moment ago been in the midst of Christmas morning, we felt SO uncomfortable. Everywhere you look is beige. Beige everything with black tables and booths. And hard rock playing on a bad sound system. Horribly bland. I mean, like, And THIS is SERIOUSLY ridiculous: When we.... and everyone else.... walked in the door, we were left to wander toward the previous restaurant's station where you placed your order before sitting down. See, here at Groucho's, there's table service. You have a seat wherever you like, unless it's a take our order. HOWEVER, there's no sign INDICATING this. IF the greeter guy (in the back... at the old order station!) HAPPENS to see you, he'll loudly TELL you this across the heads of everyone. If NOT..... you wander toward the old order station until juuuuust before you get there and are then asked, "Oh, do you have a take our order?" Curiously, there's a big red pole right when you enter the door where GROUCHO'S COULD, nooooo, SHOULD put up a SIGN with DIRECTIONS. Edit NOTE: ONE DAY AFTER I WROTE REVIEW, WE DROVE BY AND THEY HAD PUT UP A, "PLEASE SEAT YOURSELF" SIGN. THANK YOU GROUCHO'S. Ok, a couple more things, about the FOOD, then I'm done. This is quite possibly the first sandwich place we've ever been to that did NOT offer ANY type of a "half and half". You know, half sandwich and half soup or half sandwich and half salad, etc. Since they had all the entities on the menu to make it possible, I was very surprised NOT to find it, and even inquired about it. Therefore, we had BLT'S which came with chips, pickle and "famous sauce". (Which btw has got to be thousand island dressing and mayo.... sooooo save the extra 45 cents.) Now, when I think of a GREAT BLT, I'm thinking of several strips of crispy, delicious bacon hanging off the sides of the perfectly toasted bread, fresh crunchy lettuce, plenty of juicy ripe tomatoes, salt and pepper, and maybe a little mayo or mustard. The entire sandwich should crunch when you bite it. Mmmmmmm!!!! Got your mouth watering with that one, didn't I? Yeah, well, dry it up because that DIDN'T happen. OUR sandwiches were three slices of bread, run through a high speed toaster, spread with a tiny bit of mayo, one piece of the thinnest, floppiest leaf lettuce I've ever seen, one and one half slices of tomato, and..... are you ready for this..... tough, chewy, MICROWAVED bacon CRUMBLES. Let me say that again: tough, chewy, MICROWAVED bacon CRUMBLES. I'm not even going to ADDRESS the ABSURDITY of BACON CRUMBLES on a BLT. They CLEARY don't understand what a true BLT is. But the issue of the microwave? They didn't even TRY to hide the fact that they reheated the (shudder) crumbles. The microwave is in full view of the pass through window. Thus, every time the cook uses it, you hear the lovely SLAM! of the microwave door echo throughout the restaurant. Sadly, our entire experience was a HUGE disappointment. Went to this place as I like to visit local restaurants when visiting other places. 100% would not recommend here. Food was ok, I got something called Roast Beef marinated (side note comes with sauce) was very dry without the sauce and had maybe 3 small thin slices of roast beef on a 3 inch bun. But worse than that the server was beyond rude. Came to take order we asked a couple of questions and my sister was still trying to decide what she wanted. Instead of moving to the next person at the table she said "should I come back? I have 2 more tables to get orders from." Later we asked for refill on drink and she said ok and walked away. The new Summerville location is huge-you can order to go at counter or have a seat for table service. The consistency between the different stores is great for knowing exactly what you're going to get, the STP is my fave. Will be back! read more
